"Hey, you!"

Rob's heart sinks as he turns from the supermarket shelf to see a familiar face. The last time he saw Alannah Shorey, she was in a hospital bed with her hair hacked off. It's grown back now.

"I knew it was you!" Alannah looks triumphant. She's pushing a pram, the hood shielding her baby from view.

"Hello, Alannah," says Rob.

"Do you remember what you said to me, last time we met?"

"I was doing my job. Your boyfriend had killed a man."

"Not doing it any more though, are you?" Alannah sneers. "Not now everyone knows what a fake you are."

"How are you?" Rob peers over at the sleeping infant. "Are you in a shelter?"

"Don't need a shelter no more." Alannah tosses her hair over her shoulder. "I've got a new boyfriend. He takes care of us."

"Oh, for fuck's sake Alanna," says Rob. "Haven't you learned a bloody thing?"

"Don't you lecture me!" Alannah looks outraged. "Anyway, I just wanted to tell you that you're a liar and a scumbag and I'm glad you lost your job."

People around them are beginning to look in their direction. "Duly noted," says Rob. He takes a card out of his pocket and holds it out. "Look, here's my new work number. If you ever need help…"

Alannah knocks the card out of his hand. "Fuck you, you jumped-up prick." The baby starts to cry and Alannah storms off towards the tills. Rob sighs as he watches them go.
