Chapter 15- No Breaks Ups, No Make Ups

Jim, Barbara, and Barbara Lee were all sitting at the table. Barbara was holding Barbara Lee as she smiled at her. "Look sweetie, daddy didn't burn the pancakes", she cooed.

Jim looked at them, "What can I say? I'm becoming a better cook", he said with a smile. Barbara smiled at her plate, "You've come a long way since we first started dating. I remember you'd burn anything that you tried to cook", she said before she shifted her gaze at him. Jim smiled, "Like you said I've come a long way", he said as he sat down at the table.

Barbara smiled at him as she let out a small chuckle before she stared at her pancakes. Jim, meanwhile, turned his attention to Barbara Lee. "You think daddy's a good cook, don't you sweetie?" He asked as he cooed. Barbara smiled at him, "She can't taste it yet", she said.

"Well you taste it, and tell me if they taste good", he said. Barbara's smile turned into a smirk, "I will", she said before she dug in.

Jim smiled at her until his phone started to ring. He got up, and walked away from the table as he pulled out his cell phone. "Hello", he said in a serious tone.

"Jim, it's Harvey, you need to get down here, quick", Harvey said. Based on his tone it sounded urgent. Jim took a quick glance at his family, "Harvey, I'm kinda busy right now", he said in a hushed tone.

"Partner just get down here, please", Harvey said before he hung up. Jim sighed in annoyance before he walked back over to the table. "I have to go, I'll be back later", he said before he kissed his daughter. "We'll be waiting", Barbara said as she looked at him with a smile. Jim didn't say anything back as he smiled at Barbara, and Barbara Lee then he left the penthouse.

"Alright Harvey I'm here. Now what is so important that you couldn't tell me over the phone?" Jim asked as soon as he walked into the precinct. There was a glare on his face, and he was slightly annoyed that he had to leave his family. Harvey looked over at him from across the room, "Over here,'' he said as waved his arm while leading him over to his office.

Jim still kept the glare on his face as he followed his former partner into his office. When the two walked inside, Jim saw Alvarez, and Harper huddle around Harvey's desk. Both of their heads popped up when they heard him, and Harvey walk inside.

Harvey quickly hurried over to their sides as Jim stopped midway in the room. "Well, what's this about?" Jim asked in confusion as he stared at them. "Just come look", Harvey said as he waved him over to the group.

Jim sighed then walked over to the desk where the others were, and saw a computer. "What-", he was about to ask before he was cut off. "Just take a look", Alvarez quickly said with a smile on his face.

Jim sighed again as he took a look at the computer. He didn't know what this was about but it must be important, otherwise they wouldn't be so excited for him to see whatever it was that was on the computer. Harvey pressed a button, and the computer turned on.

Jim glared at the screen as a video began to play. Nothing was happening, instead it just showed what looked to be an empty apartment. Harvey stared at the screen, "When my CI was undercover Lucius had placed a small camera in the lens of some sunglasses. You know, to go with the wire that he had. It was not only to catch Penguin, or his men saying something incriminating but to have them doing something incriminating on film. Anyways, I'd given him these sunglasses during one of our meetings, and had forgotten about them because of everything that'd had happened", he explained.

"So, how did you get them back?" Jim asked as he glared at the screen. Harvey's eyes didn't leave the computer, "His sister found them while she was cleaning out his apartment. Anything that she didn't want she brought to us. Figured, there might be some evidence on them that might connect us to whoever murdered him", he explained.

"So, what's on it?" Jim asked. "Just watch", Alvarez said with a smile on his face. Jim looked at him, and wondered what he could've been smiling at before he looked back at the computer.

Jim sighed, and kept watching the computer screen. A few minutes in Harvey's CI came on the computer. He sat down, at what appeared to be a desk, and sighed in his hands when there was a knock at his door.

Jim continued to stare at the screen as he watched Harvey's CI get up, and answer the door. "I should've known", an angry voice said. Jim immediately recognized the voice as Oswald's. "Mr. Cobblepot…", Harvey's CI said before he was cut off. "I should've known that you were an informant", Oswald practically screamed as he made his way into the apartment.

Harvey's CI backed up a few more feet as Oswald continued to make his way into the apartment, all the while pointing his gun at the younger man's face. Another man, who Jim assumed was one of Oswald's men, followed him into the apartment.

"Mr. Cobblepot…", the CI tried to say but he was cut off again. "I trusted you", Oswald practically screamed as he continued to point the gun at the other guy's face. The CI raised his hands, "Mr. Cobblepot, sir, I-I don't know where this is coming from but I am not…", he tried to say before he was once again cut off.

"SHUT UP!" Oswald shouted as the gun shook in his hand. "I'M NOT AN INFORMANT!" The CI yelled back. "LIAR! YOU'VE BEEN LYING SINCE THE DAY THAT YOU STARTED WORKING FOR ME!" Oswald shouted. "No", the CI said in panic.

"I should've listened to Ed when he told me his suspicions about you. But no, I said, 'No, him? He's one of the best guys that's ever worked for me. Loyal, respectful, trustworthy', yet it was all a lie. Here I thought I had someone who I could confide in, who I could look to when things got rough, I thought I had a friend. But it was all a lie", Oswald said.

"Mr. Cobblepot, I am not an informant. I…", he tried to say until he was stopped when a bunch of bullets were fired into his chest. Oswald stood over him after he'd fired his gun, and Jim watched as he shot the CI one more time. Oswald looked at his henchmen, "Get rid of him", he snapped before he limped away in anger.

There was silence in the office as they all stared at the computer. Nobody said anything. Jim stared at the screen, "Go get him", he said. A huge smile crossed Harvey's face when he heard those words, he knew who Jim was referring to.

Harvey let out a laugh as he turned to Alvarez, and Harper. "You heard him, let's go", Harvey said. Alvarez, and Harper cheered as they high-fived each other. Meanwhile Harvey let out a loud, 'Whoo',. Jim couldn't help but laugh as he continued to stare at the computer screen. They'd finally gotten Penguin.

"Man, did you see his face?" Harvey asked with a smile as he sat down at the counter. They'd just arrested Penguin not too long ago, and afterwards they'd decided to go out for drinks to celebrate. Jim chuckled, "I remember Harvey", he said. The mob boss had a look of shock on his face when they'd busted into his mansion, and stormed into his office. That look quickly turned into anger as Harvey arrested him, and read him his rights. As they'd led him out Penguin started yelling, and told Ed to call his lawyer. Jim's smile grew as he replayed the memory over, and over again in his head.

"I'm just glad that it's finally over, and that little twerp is going to prison where he belongs", Harvey said before he took a sip of his beer. "First he has to go to trial Harvey, and a jury has to find him guilty", Jim said. Harvey smiled, "I'm not worried about that, with the evidence we have against him, a jury would be stupid to not find him guilty", he said in excitement. "Good point", Jim said with a smile as he lifted his glass to his lips.

Harvey continued to smile as he slapped Jim's back. "Face it partner, we got him. We got Penguin, and he had it coming after everything he's done. To this city, to you", Harvey said.

Jim's face fell, "I know", he said quietly. A look of concern crossed Harvey's face when he realized what he'd bought up. "Sorry", Harvey said quickly.

"No, it's ok, really", Jim said as he gave him a small smile. "No, it's not. Your whole life got ruined, and it was all his fault", Harvey said. Jim lifted his glass to his lips, "My life isn't ruined", he said quietly before he took a sip of his drink.

"You had everything, now, because of him…", Harvey said before he stopped. Jim narrowed his eyes at him, "What?" He asked. He could tell that Harvey was keeping something from him. They'd been friends for a long time so Jim knew when he was holding back. Harvey sighed, "You don't need to know", he said.

Now that made him even more curious. Jim glared at him, "What is it?" He asked as he leaned forward. Harvey looked at the counter as he let out a sigh, "I found out from a friend of mine that Lee was dating somebody, another doctor, he works at her clinic in the narrows. I'm assuming that's how they met", he explained before he gave him a sad look.

Jim felt his heart drop when he heard the news. His gaze shifted towards the floor as his heart began to speed up. "H-How do you know that they're dating?" Jim asked. His voice was barely above a whisper but Harvey heard him. "My friends saw them having dinner at a restaurant, and he saw them kiss. What else do I need to know?" Harvey asked with a glare. Jim didn't say anything for several minutes as he looked back at the counter, "So, she really has moved on?" He asked as his heart raced. Harvey's face softened, "I'm sorry partner", he said quietly.

Jim continued to stare at the counter. He didn't cry but he did feel a lump start to form in his throat. "I gotta go", Jim choked out as he quickly got up. Harvey didn't say anything. Instead he let him go.

Back at the penthouse; Barbara had just put Barbara Lee down. It was late, and she'd expected Jim to be home hours ago. At first she worried since she'd expected him to maybe be gone for an hour but then she figured that whatever was happening at work must've been keeping him.

Barbara heard the door open. She turned around, and saw Jim walk into the penthouse. At first smiled when she saw him but it quickly faded once she saw the look he gave her.

Jim gave her a cold stare as he threw his coat on the couch then he just glared at her in silence. "How was work?" She asked. Jim didn't say anything as he walked past her to the bedroom. Barbara got in front of him before he could walk into the room. He tried to pass her but she blocked him. "Move", he said with a glare. Barbara shook her head, "No, not until you talk to me", she said.

"I don't wanna talk to you", he said. His voice was harsh. Barbara looked at him, "Something is wrong. So tell me, please. Did something happen at work? Did somebody else die?" She asked. "No", he said as he continued to glare at her. "Well then what is it?" She asked as she continued to block the doorway. "Barbara…", he said in a warning tone before he was cut off. "Did I do something?" She asked quickly. Jim narrowed his eyes at her, "You could say that", he said.

Barbara stared at him, "What?" She asked. Jim's gaze shifted towards the floor as he let out a sigh, "Lee's dating somebody else, a doctor who works at her clinic", he said. "Oh", Barbara said. She didn't know what else to say.

Jim glared at her, "Yeah, oh", he said harshly. Barbara avoided his gaze, "I'm sorry", she said quietly. Jim quickly held up his hand as he squeezed his eyes shut, "You know what Barbara I don't want your apology. We both should've known this was gonna happen, especially you. It's not like Lee was gonna stay single forever but that...that still doesn't...You know what? Never mind. Just forget about it", he said as he put his hand down.

Barbara looked at him. Her eyes were filled with remorse. "Jim, I'm sorry", she said. There was a crack in her voice as she spoke. She wanted to cry but she didn't. Jim glared at her, "I don't wanna hear it, alright? I don't wanna speak to you either, I just wanna go to bed", he said.

Barbara didn't say anything as she finally let him pass her. She didn't follow him, instead she just stood outside the bedroom, and thought about what he'd told her. It was her fault, after all if she hadn't done what she did then Jim, and Lee would still be together.

She looked in the bedroom in regret as she saw Jim laying in bed. His back was facing her. He hated her that much, she was sure. But he wasn't gonna leave, and it was only because he wanted to remain in Barbara Lee's life.

Barbara looked at the floor, and sniffed as she tried not to cry. Everything had been going so good, and now it felt like they were back to how they started when they'd first gotten married. Except it was just Jim who hated her, and maybe that's what she deserved. She looked back at Jim, who still had his back towards her. He wouldn't leave but he probably wouldn't forgive her either. He'd resent her but he wouldn't leave, not until Barbara Lee turned 18, and as soon as that happened then he'd mostly likely pack his bags then leave. But until then Barbara knew he'd stay, and continue to resent her.
