Chapter 16- Where's Jim?

The past week had been rough for Barbara. Like she'd expected; Jim didn't forgive her. He barely spoke to her, and tried not to be in the same room as her whenever he was at home. All that hard work they'd done to be civil to one another, the friendship they'd built, gone, and it was all her fault.

Meanwhile Penguin had been arraigned in court, and had been held on a million dollar bond. Although, much to the city's charging, Penguin had not surprisingly, made bail. So, Jim, and the rest of the GCPD were keeping an eye on him. They didn't want him skipping town before he could go on trial for killing Harvey's CI.

Barbara walked into the living room one morning to find Jim about to head out. "Leaving?" She asked. Jim didn't look at her as he put on his coat, "Yeah", he said as he looked at the floor.

Barbara watched as he headed towards the door, "Can we please talk when you get home?" She asked before he could reach the door. Jim turned around, and glared at her. "About?" He asked in annoyance. "About us; we said we'd be civil…", she said before she was interrupted. "We are", Jim said harshly.

"No we're not, you're ignoring me. That's not being civil", Barbara said. Jim growled, "What do you want from me Barbara? Huh? You wanna talk, and be friends? Be a normal married couple? Well it's not gonna happen. Okay? So, I don't wanna talk things out, I don't wanna be 'friends', and I don't wanna pretend that you didn't ruin my life. So, when I get home later just...leave me alone. I don't wanna talk to you, or really even look at you", he said in anger before he stormed out of the penthouse. Barbara watched him go in silence.

At Oswald's Manor Ed was pacing around back, and forth. "That Jim Gordon, after everything we did to help him protect this city while it was cut off from the mainland, he goes, and has you arrested", Ed said in anger as he clenched both of his fists. He stopped pacing then he turned to look at Oswald who was glaring at him. "I'm aware of Ed, and I don't see why you're so upset. He didn't arrest you", Oswald said in annoyance.

"Yet", Ed said. Knowing Jim Gordon, Ed was sure that the Commissioner wouldn't rest until he was put behind bars. Oswald rolled his eyes, "Yeah, yet", he muttered in agreement.

"So, what are you gonna do Oswald? How are you gonna get out of this? I mean he has you on camera from goodness sakes. How could you be so careless?" Ed asked with a glare. "I didn't know I was being filmed, Ed", Oswald said.

"No you didn't. Just like you didn't know that there was an informant giving information out on you to GCPD", Ed said. Oswald flung his arms down in frustration, "For the last time, I'm sorry. Excuse me for thinking that you could be wrong for once, and that maybe you were just being paranoid", he said.

"Well I wasn't being paranoid, Oswald. I was right about the guy but you refused to listen. You always refuse to listen, and now look at what's happening. You could go to prison", Ed practically shouted. "I know that Ed", Oswald practically shouted back.

A silence fell between the two. Ed stared at him for a few seconds, "So, what are you gonna do?" He asked in a more calm manner. "I have it taken care of, don't worry", Oswald said as he got out his cell phone.

Ed narrowed his eyes at him, "Who are you calling?" He asked. "Someone to take care of Jim Gordon", Oswald said as he dialed a number. "Jim? What's killing him gonna do?" Ed asked in frustration. Ed had known Oswald for a long time so he knew that when he said that he was gonna have Jim, "taken care", of that meant that he was gonna have him killed. Oswald waited for somebody to pick up, "Without Jim around then this whole thing will fall apart, trust me", he said.

Ed gave him a dumbfounded look, "Trust? I trusted you before, and you let a CI waltz right into your organization", he said in frustration. "Just trust me Ed", Oswald said as he impatiently tapped his foot.

Ed took off his glasses as he rubbed his forehead, and let out a frustrated sigh. While Oswald didn't give him much reason to trust him Ed knew that he'd have to. After all, they didn't have much to lose, and if getting rid of Jim didn't work then they could always leave Gotham. Better to leave, and regroup than be locked up.

Ed put back on his glasses, and looked at Oswald. "Zsasz isn't gonna pick up", Ed said. After that mocked trail that Oswald held against Victor when Gotham was cut off from the mainland, Ed knew that the assassin wouldn't ever work for Oswald again. No matter what he offered to pay.

"I'm not calling that traitor. No, I'm calling someone else, someone better, someone that can have Jim Gordon taken care of tonight", Oswald said. "Who?" Ed asked. Oswald didn't answer him, instead he waited for the person that he was calling to pick up. There was an answer, "Hello", a male voice said. "Yes, it's me, I have a job for you", Oswald said.

That afternoon Selina was at her apartment when she heard a knock at the door. "Coming", Selina called out as she walked over to the door. She opened it, and saw Barbara on the other side with Barbara Lee in her stroller.

One look at Barbara's face, and Selina knew that she needed someone to talk to. So, without a word, Selina stepped aside, and Barbara walked into the apartment while she pushed the stroller. Selina smiled at Barbara Lee. "Hi Barbara Lee", Selina cooed. Barbara Lee smiled at her, and giggled while she placed her tiny hands near her mouth where she drooled on them. Selina shook her head as she smirked then she rolled the stroller near a chair.

Meanwhile Barbara sat on the couch as she looked at her lap. Selina walked over to her, "Okay, tell me what's wrong", she said. "Jim hates me,'' Barbara said quietly.

Selina stared at her, "But I thought you two were getting along?" She asked. Barbara continued to look at her lap, "We were", she said quietly. "So, what happened?" Selina asked. "He found some things out", Barbara said.

Selina's jaw dropped at the statement, "Barbara what did you do?" She asked in frustration as she rubbed her forehead. "Nothing", Barbara said as she glared at her. Selina looked at her, "So, what he just woke up one morning, and decided that he hated you again?" She asked. "No", Barbara said with a sigh.

"Okay, so what?" Selina asked. Barbara sighed again, "Jim found out from Harvey that Lee is seeing someone else", she said. "So, what does that...Wait…", Selina said but she didn't finish her statement because she didn't need to. It was easy to put two, and two together. Lee moving on meant that it truly was over between her, and Jim. That therefore reminded him of everything that he'd lost because of his marriage to Barbara. It also meant that there was no chance of reconciliation in the future for him, and Lee. "Yeah", Barbara said simply before she placed her face in her hands.

Selina sat down next to her, "I'm sorry", she said as she gave her a look of sympathy. "What am I gonna do?" Barbara asked as she continued to bury her face in her hands. Selina thought about it as she moved her head from side to side while she carefully weighed Barbara's options. "Well...You could leave him. Just give him a divorce like he wants", Selina said.

Barbara glared at her, "I can't do that now. Jim hates me, if we divorce then I know he'll go after Barbara Lee to get back at me", she explained. "Well then go to the DA, give him the evidence", Selina said as she stood up.

"I can't", Barbara said as she stood up too. "Well Jim doesn't know that. So, just remind him…", Selina said before she was interrupted. "Selina stop, I'm not doing that, alright? He has a right to be angry", Barbara snapped as she held up a hand to silence her friend. Selina just stared at her for a few seconds, "Alright", she said quietly.

They both sat back down on the couch, and stared at the carpet in silence. "He has a right to be angry", Barbara said again this time in a much more quiet tone. She had to keep reminding herself that because it was true. Selina looked at her, "Maybe this whole thing will blow over", she suggested. Barbara continued to look at the carpet, "No, it won't. I really screwed up this time Selina", she said as she finally looked at her. Neither woman said anything after that. Instead Barbara rested her head on Selina's shoulder as the younger woman held her close.

Jim was in his office sitting at his desk as he played with a stapler in one of his hands. Harvey sat across from him, and stared at him in concern. "So...the DA's not sure when Penguins trial is gonna start but he wants to get it started by the beginning of next year", Harvey explained.

Jim continued to focus on the stapler that was in his hand, "Good for him", he muttered, He wasn't really paying attention, and he honestly didn't really care. They had Penguin dead to rights, he wasn't getting away with murdering Harvey's CI. So, for that reason Jim wasn't worried, and therefore he didn't care. He had other things on his mind.

"Are you feeling alright?" Harvey asked. "Yeah", Jim lied. Harvey could tell that he was lying, "Look partner…", he began but he was interrupted. "I said I'm all right", Jim snapped as he glared at him.

Harvey held up his hands, "Alright, alright", he said calmly. Jim stared back at the stapler that he for some reason just kept fiddling with in his hand, "Sorry", he grunted. Harvey stood up, and stared at him. "I'm gonna go brief with Alvarez, and Harper on another case", Harvey said.

Jim still didn't pay any attention to him, "Okay", he said. Harvey turned around but stopped then he turned back around. His eyes were closed as he carefully thought about what he was gonna say next. Jim had a temper, and Harvey didn't wanna be a substitute for his rage. "Don't do anything stupid", Harvey said.

Jim looked at him. His face had a mixture of shock, and annoyance on it. Almost like he couldn't believe that Harvey would say that.

"What are you talking about?" Jim asked in annoyance. Harvey glared back at him, "I'm just saying, that you need to go home, and calmly talk things out with Barbara. Don't lose your temper, start an argument, and then do something that could get one, or both of you arrested because we don't need that right now. The DA is gonna need you at the top of your game for when Penguin goes to trial, and don't forget we have to get Tony Zucco off the streets too along with a bunch of other criminals. We're not done cleaning up Gotham yet. So, remember the mission. Don't let Lee moving on cause you to slip. I mean I get it partner, it hurts, and that sucks but it's not the end of the world. You still have a lot to live for, like your daughter for instance. Remember? You wanted to make Gotham a safer place for her. So, remember that, and don't do anything stupid", he said.

Jim glared at him, "I won't", he said. "Alright, it's gonna be ok partner, trust me", Harvey said then he left the office. Jim watched him go. He then stared at the clock that was on the wall, and watched as the minutes ticked by. It felt like hours but was only thirty minutes before he decided to head back to the penthouse. He didn't wanna go but he knew he couldn't stay in his office although he was tempted to do just that.

He got up then he left, and headed outside. As he walked to his car he couldn't help but feel like somebody was watching him. With as many times he'd been attacked, Jim had developed a sort of six sense for when he was in danger.

Jim grabbed the door handle before he quickly turned around, and drew his gun but there was nobody there. In fact the entire parking lot was empty except for a few cars. Jim slowly looked around before he put away his gun then he turned back to his car. Maybe living in Gotham had made him paranoid.

He once again grabbed the door handle when a red dot caught his eye. It was on the driver's side window which was only inches away from him. Not wasting any time Jim quickly got out of the way, and hopped behind his car just as a shot ranged out.

His heart started to race but that didn't stop him from getting out his gun again, and trying to assess the situation. He slowly peaked out from behind his car, and looked around but he didn't see anybody. Not wanting to be seen he quickly looked ahead as he tried to figure out his next move.

Meanwhile on a rooftop; A man waited for his target to reappear. He wore a white mask along with an armored suit, and he had an AR-15 in his possession. The man hit the concert with his fist, "Damnit", he growled. He'd never missed a shot before, and it was something he prided himself on.

He growled again as he adjusted the scope on his rifle. There was a lot riding on this kill. Mr. Cobblepot was paying him $50,000,000, and he'd already been paid half so if he was gonna collect the other half then he needed to kill Jim Gordon.

A few minutes passed before he saw Jim start running. The man aimed his rifle, and pulled the trigger but he missed again. So, he pulled the trigger again, and again but each time he missed.

Still keeping Jim in his sight the man jumped from the roof, and quickly made his way down the building via window sills. He landed on the roof of a car below, and took another shot but once again he missed. Jim looked behind, and saw him then he fired his own weapon. He hit the driver's side window of the car.

On the ground, Jim stopped running then he fired his gun a few more times before he took off running again. He didn't know who that guy was but it didn't take a genius to figure out that he worked for Penguin. Jim turned back around, then him, and the mystery man shot at each other a few more times before Jim started to run again.

The man jumped from his car to the ground. So, it was a fight he wanted? No fret. He watched Jim run, and decided to give a head start. It didn't matter how fast Jim ran, the man would catch him. Floyd Lawton would not miss again. After all he didn't earn the nickname Deadshot for nothing.

Jim continued to run. He glanced behind him but he didn't see the mystery man, good. Jim looked ahead, and continued to run as he tried to figure out his next move. Help, he needed help, obviously. He managed to grab his cell phone out of his pocket, and was about to call for backup when another shot ranged out.

"You can run but you can't hide", Floyd called out. Jim ran into an alleyway, and fired his gun. Floyd fired back at him, and Jim quickly hid behind the building.

Knowing he couldn't stay where he was, Jim fired his gun at his assailant then took off running to a nearby abandoned warehouse. He ran inside then looked around the dark building before he started to dial a number. But before he could finish he heard the sound of a gun, and sharp pain in the back of his knee.

Jim let out a yell as he fell forward. He caught himself before he landed on the ground then he tried to run as he limped. There was another gunshot, this time he felt pain in the right side of his lower abdomen. This time he did fall as he grabbed the side of his stomach, he looked down, and saw blood on his hand. He knew the bullet had gone through.

Jim groaned as he started to crawl to safety. He grabbed onto an object, and pulled himself up when another gunshot hit him in the upper right shoulder. Just like before the bullet had gone right through. He fell to the floor with a thud, and squeezed his eyes shut as he yelled.

As a pool of blood began to form around him Jim opened his eyes, and rolled over. He saw Floyd standing over him. Jim groaned as his vision began to blur.

Floyd looked at him then he saw a hole in the ground, and an idea formed in his head. A cruel smile formed on his face as he took his foot, and pushed Jim into the hole. He heard him land with a thud. Floyd looked in the hole but he couldn't see anything because it was dark, it didn't matter though, Commissioner Gordon would die down, no doubt about it.

Back at the penthouse Barbara had just put Barbara Lee down. She headed over to the couch, and sighed as she sat down. It'd been a long day, and that was saying something considering the fact that she didn't go into work.

Barbara looked out the window, and saw the sun beginning to set. She looked at the clock, it was late, and Jim still wasn't home. Maybe that was a good thing, she didn't wanna have to deal with avoiding him.

She rubbed her forehead, and let out another sigh before she looked at the clock again. Where was he? Sure he'd been late before but at the very least she thought he'd have the common decency to call, and tell her that he was gonna be late. Barbara got out her cell phone, and sent him a text. Barbara- Hey, it's getting late, where are you? She put down her phone, and waited for him to text back.

Floyd was about to leave when he heard a buzzing sound. He looked around, and saw Jim's cell phone laying a few feet away. Floyd picked it up, and saw a text message from a woman named Barbara Kean. Who was this Barbara woman? He thought as he raised an eyebrow. Must've been Commissioner Gordon's wife. Mr. Cobblepot did say that he was married. Barbara- Hey, it's getting late, where are you? Floyd typed a message. Jim- Sorry I got stuck in traffic, I'll be home soon. I love you. Floyd smiled as he sent it.

At the penthouse; Barbara waited for a response as she heard her cell phone buzz. She looked at the message, and her heart instantly dropped when she read the end of it. 'I love you', that didn't sound like Jim, in fact it wasn't Jim, she was sure of it. She felt her heart start to race as she continued to stare at the text message. She didn't wanna be right but she knew, without a doubt, that she was. But she needed to be sure. As her heart continued to race she managed to send another text message. Barbara- Well hurry home. Jimmy misses his father. She stared at her phone, and waited for whoever it was to text her back.

Back at the warehouse. Floyd saw the message then he typed his own. Jim- Well give him a kiss for me, and I'll be home soon. He sent it then he left.

Barbara read the message then she dialed Harvey's number. "Hello", Harvey said. "Harvey it's me", Barbara said. She could hear the fear in her own voice. "Barbara what are…", he tried to say but she cut him off. "Listen there's no time, Jim's in danger", she said quickly. "Okay calm down, I'll be right over", he said before he hung up.

Barbara waited for about twenty minutes until there was a knock at the door. She went to open it, and saw Harvey on the other side. "Thank goodness", she said. Harvey walked inside, "Okay, now calmly tell me why you think Jim is in danger because when I saw him last he was alright", he said.

Barbara closed the door as she looked at him, "I sent him a text message asking him where he was then I got a message back basically saying that he'd be home soon, and something else", she told him. Harvey looked at her, "What?" He asked in confusion. Barbara sighed, "It said that he loved me", she said.

"That...doesn't sound like Jim", he admitted. "Yeah, and just to make sure that it wasn't him I sent another message. This time I basically told him that Jimmy missed him", she said. "Jimmy?" Harvey asked in confusion. "Yeah, I told whoever it was that to trick them, and they fell for it. So, we have to find Jim", Barbara said.

"Okay, okay, I'll send Alvarez, and Harper to his office to look for clues. You call a sitter for the kid then we'll go out, and look for him", Harvey said as he got out his cell phone. Barbara nodded, "Okay", she said. She got out her own cell phone, and called Selina.

Half an hour later Barbara, and Harvey were outside the building that Jim worked at. Harvey looked at the bullet hole in Jim's car as some nearby cops surveyed the area. Harvey looked at Barbara with a grim look on his face. "Harper said everything looked normal in his office. There didn't seem to be a struggle, or any kind of fire fight", he told her.

Barbara glared at him, "Obviously, whatever happened didn't happen in his office, it happened out here", she said as she gestured to the car. Harvey sighed in frustration, he was about to respond when he got a call from Lucius. Harvey had called him to see if he could track Jim's cell phone. If he could then maybe that would lead them to whoever, possibly, had Jim.

"Lucius, hey, did you track Jim's phone?" Harvey asked. Barbara watched as Harvey's face dropped then he hung up. "What happened? Does he know where Jim could possibly be?" She asked. Harvey looked at her with concern, "He managed to track Jim's phone, and he found it", he said. "Where?" She asked. "In the river", Harvey said.

Jim laid up against a wall as he stared up at the hole that he'd fallen into. He felt weak, and he wanted so badly to pass out. But he knew that he needed to keep himself awake, somehow.

Jim sighed as he looked down at his hand that was covered in blood, he sighed again as he placed his hand back on his wound, and leaned his head against the wall. He could feel pain in his stomach area where he'd been shot, and in his shoulder but not in his leg. Which wasn't a good sign, it made him think that if he ever got out of there then he'd probably lose his leg. He hated the thought of that happening but at least he'd be alive. Shoot he'd trade both his legs for his life.

His eyes began to wander around, he didn't know where he was at, he knew that he was at a warehouse but he didn't know where he'd landed. A basement perhaps? He groaned as he slightly moved to make himself more comfortable. "Help", he called out in a weak voice. No answer, obviously.

A sigh once again left his lips as his eyes closed. They quickly snapped back open as he reminded himself that he needed to stay awake but it was hard because he felt himself start to get lightheaded, a sign that he was losing too much blood. Pretty soon he would pass out, and there would be nothing he could do to stop it from happening.

He looked back up at the hole, and he started to think about Barbara Lee. His baby girl needed him, and he needed to be there to watch her grow up. After all he couldn't miss that, he couldn't miss her first words, her first steps, or her first day of school. He had to be there for it all. Next his mind began to drift to Barbara. He needed to see her, to tell her he was sorry for being unfair to her over the past week. Things had been going good between them, and he had ruined it because he was angry. If, no, when he did get out of there, he was gonna apologize, and let her know that he didn't hate her because he didn't. He didn't hate her in the slightest.

Jim could feel his eyelids start to droop. Stay awake, he had to stay awake no matter how hard it was because somebody was going to find him, he was sure of it. Somebody would notice that he was missing, most likely Harvey, or maybe even Barbara. Either way, whoever noticed, they'd come looking, and he'd be waiting.

"Well?" Barbara asked in anticipation. Her, and Harvey were still standing outside in the parking lot near Jim's car. Harvey had sent a team to the river to check for clues, and it had been an hour since either had heard anything. Barbara had wanted to go with them but Harvey had insisted that she stay believing that she'd get in the way if she went. So, she stayed, and they waited. Harvey looked at her as he put his phone in his coat pocket, "That was one of my guys, they found Jim's phone in the river but no sign of Jim", he told her.

"Thank goodness", she said as turned around. She ran her fingers through her hair as her heart raced, and tears filled her eyes. Jim wasn't in the river, which meant that he was still alive but they still didn't know where he was.

Harvey could tell that she was upset, and worried. "Hey, look, we're gonna find him, alright?" He asked. Barbara turned back around, and glared at him but she didn't say anything instead she walked past him. "I'll find him myself", she whispered.

Harvey ran up to her, and started to follow her. "Where are you going?" He asked. "To look for him because it's a hell of a lot better than standing around, and waiting for answers", she said as she continued to walk. It was getting late, and the sun was almost down. Pretty soon it would be dark but she didn't care what she'd have to do; She'd check every building, and question every person in that damn city until she found him. Until she brought him home.

They stopped walking. Harvey looked at her as she looked around. "Do you think any of your enemies would go after him?" He asked. "Maybe but I'm pretty sure they'd have come after me by now", she said. Made sense, in fact it made even more sense to go after Barbara Lee, and not Jim. The thought sickened her but by now everybody knew that her daughter was the most important person to her. So, if any of her old enemies wanted to get to her then they'd surely go after her daughter before Jim.

"Aren't you tracking him still?" Harvey asked. He still remembered what Jim had told him about Barbara tracking him to make sure she knew where he was at all times. Barbara looked around for some clues, "No, I put a stop to that after we agreed to be civil", she said. It hadn't been a part of their agreement but she did it anyway because she felt it was the right thing to do. But now she was regretting it.

Harvey watched as Barbara continued to look around. "Barbara, this isn't the way", he said. Barbara ignored him, and her eyes landed on an abandoned warehouse. She walked towards it. Harvey followed after her.

They walked inside. Barbara looked around, she didn't know why but Jim was in there, she could feel it. Her eyes landed on something on the ground. "There", she said as she walked over to the spot.

Barbara kneeled down. She wiped some of it up with her fingers to get a closer look, and discovered that it was blood. Not only that but she could tell that it was fresh. "H-H-Harvey", she called out in a shaky voice. Harvey hurried over to her, "What is it?" He asked. Barbara stood up, and showed him her fingers. "It's blood, and I think it's Jim's", she said.

"How…", he was about to ask but she cut him off. "JIM! JIM!" Barbara screamed out. Harvey sighed in defeat, "Jim, where are you partner?" He asked in a loud voice. They walked around, calling out his name. But they heard no answer. "Jim", Barbara called out. Again no answer.

In the hole; Jim had passed out. He stirred around, and slowly opened his eyes as he heard his name being called out. Jim listened closely to make sure he wasn't hearing things due to him losing so much blood. Based on how close the voices were, he knew that they were real. Jim looked up at the hole, "Down here", he called out in a weak voice.

Harvey, and Barbara didn't hear him. "Jim", she called out again. "I'm down here", she heard a voice say. Barbara looked at Harvey. "Did you hear that?" She asked. "No", Harvey said in confusion.

"Jim", Barbara called out. "I'm down here", she heard again. Barbara saw the hole in the ground, and ran over to it. Harvey followed her. "Jim", she called down in the hole. "Here, I'm down here", Jim called up in a weak voice. This time both Harvey, and Barbara heard him. They both smiled in relief. "Jim", she said in happiness as tears once again filled her eyes. Harvey smiled, "Don't worry partner, we're gonna get you out of there", he said. Jim didn't say anything, instead he just smiled.

It didn't take long for help to arrive, and get Jim out of the hole. Once that happened he was immediately rushed to the hospital, and taken into surgery. The doctors couldn't tell them much as they wheeled Jim away, instead Barbara, and Harvey were basically told to wait in the waiting room.

"I need to know who did this, and I need to know now", Harvey said in anger as he looked at her. "You, and me both", she said. "Barbara, you need to think, and you need to think hard. Who would want to come after you now?" He asked with a glare. Barbara glared back at him, "Honestly Harvey, I don't think this has anything to do with me", she said.

"Are you sure?" He asked. "Yeah, I'm sure", she said. Harvey sighed in frustration as he rubbed his temple, "Well then who?" He asked. Barbara thought about it until something clicked, "I think I might have an idea", she said as she began to walk away. "Where are you going?" Harvey asked. Barbara didn't look at him as she ignored his question, "I'll be back. Call me if anything happens with Jim", she said then she left the hospital.

Oswald was in his study when he heard a ruckus outside. "Wait, you can't go in there", he heard somebody say. It was Ed. Oswald heard what sounded like somebody getting punched in the face then Barbara barged into the room. Oswald glared as he stood up in anger, "Barbara? What the…", he said before he was interrupted. Barbara grabbed him by the collar, and pulled him towards her. Boy he was getting sick, and tired of people coming into his office then grabbing him by his shirt. Barbara glared at him, "You son of a bitch", she growled.

"What is the matter with you?" Oswald asked in anger. "I know it was you", she said. "What was me?" He asked. Barbara tightened her grip on his collar, her eyes never leaving his. "I know you had Jim shot, you bastard", she said.

Oswald narrowed his eyes at her, "I did not", he lied. "LIAR!" Barbara shouted. At that moment Ed ran into the room, his nose was bleeding. "Oswald", Ed said in shock. Oswald shifted his gaze towards Ed. "Ed, go get help, now", Oswald said. "On it", Ed said before he ran out of the room.

"You didn't think I'd figure it out, did you?", She asked. Oswald glared at her, 'You listen to me Ms. Kean, or should I say Mrs. Gordon? I didn't have Jim shot. In fact I didn't even know he had been shot", he said. "Jim is fighting for his life right now, and I know that you're responsible", she practically shouted as she shook him.

Oswald's eyes widened in shock. Jim was alive? Damnit, Floyd had assured him that Jim was dead. Great, Oswald had already paid him the second half, and he hadn't even gotten the job done. Now he was out $50,000,00.

"It wasn't me", Oswald lied. Barbara didn't believe him. Instead she pulled out her gun, and clicked off the safety. "You listen to me, Pengy. If you ever come after Jim again then I'll kill you, understand?" She asked. "Y-Yeah...But it wasn't me", he said. "Understand?" She practically shouted. "Yes, alright?" He asked as he practically shouted. "Good", she said. She pushed him to the floor, and put her gun away.

Oswald smoothed out the wrinkles in his shirt, with his hands, before he glared at her. "I'm surprised to see you so angry about this. It's almost as if you care about him, unless you do?" He asked. Barbara glared at him, "I do, I care about him", she said before she left.

Harvey was in the waiting room when Barbara came back. "Any word on Jim?" She asked. Harvey looked at her, "Not yet", he said.

At that moment a doctor walked over to them, "Mrs. Gordon?" He asked. "Doctor, how is he?" She asked. Harvey stood up, and looked at the doctor as they waited for a response. The doctor looked at her, "He's alive, he lost a lot of blood, and at first I thought we'd have to amputate his leg but we managed to save it", he explained.

Barbara started to cry as Harvey sighed in relief. "But he's gonna be ok, right?" She asked as tears ran down her face. The doctor looked at her, "He's not out of the woods yet. So, we'll have to see how he does through the night but yes I have every reason to believe that he's gonna make it", he said.

Barbara covered her mouth while she cried in happiness as she tried not to collapse to the ground. Harvey kept her from doing so as he held her, "Thanks a lot doc", he said. The doctor nodded at him.

Barbara looked at the doctor as she wiped her face, "Can I see him?" She asked. "He's in recovery so yes. But only for a short time", the doctor said. "Okay", Barbara said quietly.

The doctor walked away, and Barbara looked at Harvey. "Look Harvey I know that you wanna see him first but can I please go?" Please", she begged. Harvey gave her a look of understanding, "Go", he said simply. Barbara looked at him in gratitude, "Thank you", she said then she headed to recovery.

Barbara walked into the room, and saw Jim laying in a hospital bed. He was hooked up to a machine, there were tubes in his nose, and an IV in his arm. He was unconscious, which was to be expected since he'd just gotten out of surgery.

Barbara walked over to his bedside, and sat down. She gently ran her fingers through his hair as she looked at him in concern. Tears ran down her face as she smiled a little. "Hey, you scared me, you know that? Of course you don't. But you did. The doctor believes that you're gonna pull through, good because Barbara Lee needs her daddy, and I need you too. So, wake up Jim. Come on, you've been through worse, and survived. So, wake up because somebody needs to put Penguin away, and that someone is you. Make him pay, the right way like I know that you're gonna wanna do. Wake up Jim, wake up", she said.

Jim stirred, then he slowly started to open his eyes, "Barbara?" He asked quietly as he blinked a few times. Barbara laughed as tears continued to run down her face, "Hey, welcome back", she said. "Where am I?" He asked in a groggy voice. "The hospital, you had to have surgery", Barbara explained.

"Where's Barbara Lee?" He asked. He wanted to know how his daughter was, and he wanted to see her. "She's at home", Barbara said. "I wanna see her,'' Jim said.

Barbara was still running her fingers through his hair, she started to shush him. "Okay, okay, as soon as the doctors give the ok I'll have Selina bring her over, alright?" She asked. Jim leaned his head back in the pillow, "Alright", he said back in a quiet voice.

"How are you feeling?" She asked. "Tired but I'm not sore", he said. Barbara chuckled as she sniffed, "Yeah, pain meds will do that to you", she said.

Jim looked at her, and noticed that tears were still running down her face. He reached up, and gently wiped them away with one of his hands. "How did you find me?" He asked. "Me, and Harvey went looking for you after I got a text message", she said.

Jim narrowed his eyes at her, "A text message?" He asked in confusion. Barbara nodded, "Yeah, whoever shot you sent me a text from your phone to, I guess, throw me off. But I knew it wasn't you when he texted that loved me. I knew immediately because we both know that, that isn't true", she said.

"Oh", Jim said. Barbara nodded at his statement as her gaze shifted to the floor, "Well long story short we found you in that warehouse", she said before she looked back at him. Jim took her hand, and gently squeezed it. "Thank you", he whispered.

"You don't have to thank me", Barbara said as she looked at the floor again. Jim looked at her, "Well then let me apologize", he said. Barbara gave him a look of confusion, "For?" She asked. "For how I've been acting this past week. I'm sorry, and I don't hate you just in case that's what you've been thinking. I really don't", he said truthfully. Barbara smiled a little, "I don't hate you either", she said quietly she gently squeezed his hand back. After that neither one of them said anything else, instead they just smiled at each other.

Author's Note- There's chapter 16 guys. Sorry for the wait but I finally got it done, and that's what matters. I'm really proud of this chapter, and I had fun writing it. Sorry for any mistakes in the grammar that you may find, I may, or may not fix them depending on if I can ever find the time. I do my best to write then edit. So, please bear with me on that. Anyways, were any of you expecting Deadshot? Did you enjoy him? I know I had him miss Jim several times but hey at least I let him shoot Jim three times.
