Disclaimers: I do not own The Penguins of Madagascar
Author's Notes: Okay guys if you remember, in the episode Skipper Makes Perfect we see a flash back about Skipper and Hans fighting with fish over a briefcase. Then some Danes come in and Skipper opens said briefcase to see nothing but an open-faced sandwich. Skipper then puts a small American flag on said sandwich. Now as silly as it sounds this is exactly why Skipper is wanted by the Danes of Denmark. Apparently they take their sandwiches very seriously over there and defacing them in anyway is considered a crime.
Who knew, Right?
Anyway, next chapter is up please enjoy!
(Back with Kowalski…)
He knew Skipper had given them orders to leave for the zoo, but he couldn't shake the news he had just received. Eva had betrayed Northwind, and by doing so had gotten Skipper in quite a bind. Sure, Classified hadn't said as much, but Kowalski didn't need to be a genius to connect the dots. And yet, even though common sense told him this was true, he could not believe it. So, while Private and Rico began to pack up their things Kowalski busied himself with a different task. He created a cellier tracker and keying in Eva's phone number; he had created a way of tracking her down. If her phone was still active and on her person he would find her; once he did he would demand answers. And if she was indeed a cold-blooded traitor then he would turn her in.
"What do you mean you guys have to disappear?" Alex was questioning Private as they packed.
"Sorry but Skipper's orders." Private said, staying as discreet as possible.
"But you'll be back right?" Melman asked.
"Yeah, you can meet us in Paris." Alex suggested.
"Afraid not." Kowalski said coldly. He didn't mean for it to come out that way, but it just did.
"Guys what's really going on here?" Alex asked, sensing that something was wrong. After being with the penguins for so long he had picked up on their behavior, and just knew when something wasn't right.
Kowalski sighed, he knew secrecy was key when trying to disappear, but their friends deserved to know the danger they might be in. "Look Skipper had made some dangerous enemies wherever he has gone." He explained. "Somehow they found out about him, and they could be on the verge of discovering us too. For your safety and our own we have to part ways, and never see each other again."
"Never?" Gloria looked fearful and rightfully so.
"Come on it can't be that bad." Marty tried to reason.
"It is." Kowalski stated solemnly. "It's best if you just forget we ever existed."
Alex nodded, seeming to be more accepting of their departer. It wasn't that he wanted them to leave, he just understood the weight of the situation. After all the things he had witnessed the penguins do he had no doubt that they could tick off some powerful people. "We'll never forget you." He finally decided to say.
At the moment, Rico was busy stuffing Kowalski's inventions into his gut, one after another.
Kowalski grabbed a ray gun looking gadget from the pile and pointed it at the lion. "Yes you will, in fact I think you'll find that forgetting about us and New York will be easier than you think." And with those words he fired.
"What the!" Marty exclaimed as the gun hit Alex with a green light of energy before he fell down unconscious.
Before the other mammals could react Kowalski shot them as well.
"Kowalski what did you do?" Private shrieked.
"It's my memory eraser." The scientist explained. "All I do is type in what I want them to forget." He gestured to the little keyboard, and small screen which read: Penguins, and New York. "And then I shot them, causing them to forget anything they may know about us and new York."
"You mean they won't remember the Zoo or us at all." Private asked.
"It's the only way, we can't risk them stopping by for a visit and spotting us." Kowalski explained further. He looked around warily. "You and Rico finished packing. "I'm going to finish zapping the rest of the circus."
Private nodded as Kowalski left. He didn't like the fact that their friends would never remember them, but it was for their safety after all. He and Rico picked up their pace, knowing that they'd have to be long gone without a trace before everyone woke up.
Behind them peeking into the tent was King Julian, he and Morris had been ease dropping the whole time. "Did you hear that Morris. The Penguins are trying to get a drop on my new kingdom." He exclaimed husky.
"New Kingdom?" Morris asked. "I thought we decided to stay here with Sonya?" He asked.
Sonya was the circus bear, and up until recently King Julian's queen. However, she and Julian were always at odds with each other, mostly because Julian was selfish, and their communication gap had caused more than one argument. Sonya the bear just didn't speak as well as the other animals and Julian found one sided conversations exhausting. Not to mention She still threw him around when she got frustrated with him. All and All it wasn't the most sound of relationships as Morris had told him several times.
"You were right about her Morris." Julian admitted, which was not something he did often. "She maybe a beautiful hairy supper model, but the sky spirts just don't think we are meant to be."
Morris nodded; he knew he would get it eventually. "Maybe we should sneak off with the penguins. Some distance might help you and Sonya move on."
Julian nodded. "Yes we will depart for the new Kingdom at once."
"Without the penguins?" Morris looked skeptical. "And how do you suppose we do that?"
"Hey where are we shipping these animals too again?" A man's voice asked.
Julian turned to see some humans packing up their things from Carnival. Every year the people of Rio de Janeiro held a celebration known as Carnaval the biggest carnival in the world, with two million people per day on the streets. This usually stopped all traffic from going in and out of the country from Friday until Wednesday morning when everyone cleared out.
The two humans packing up now had not been a part of the Carnaval parade but were employees of the Rio BioPark Zoo. They had been tasked with transporting the animals to the airport before the carnival had begun. Unfortunately, an ill-timed flat tire caused them to be stuck right in the middle of it. Thankfully the people of Rio were always prepared, and the animals were well looked after and given temporarily enclosures along the side of the road. The Zoo declared them apart of the festivities and had called in to America to report that the Animals they were expecting would be a little late.
"I think the boss said New York." The second human said to the first.
Julian smiled and raved over to an open animal crate with Morris hot on his tail.
"Where are we going?" Mort asked appearing out of nowhere.
Julian jumps in surprised. "Mort how many times have I told you not to sneak up on me like that?"
"Sorry King Julian." Mort answered with a giggle. "But where are we going?"
Julian looks at Morris hopefully, the please get rid of him, message was as plan as day on his face.
Morris gave his king a knowing look. "You know he's just gonna find you anyways." He reminded him. "Might as well accept it."
Julian groaned dramatically but gave in all the same. "Fine, Penguins have gone coocoo Bananas and are trying to steal my new kingdom from me and we are going to sneak off to there first."
"Hurray!" Mort exclaimed.
"Shhh!" Julian warned as they jumped into the open crate. "We can not be letting them see us."
Mort nodded and they all curled up inside.
"Hey Borras." One of the humans said as he approached the open crate and saw them. "Did we always have these Lemurs?"
"What?" The other Human, borras said. "Oh Lemurs, yeah sure I think so."
The second human shrugged and pit a lid on the animal shipping crate. "Okay little fellas get cozy." He advised. "It's gonna be a long trip."
And with that he loaded them up into the truck that would take them to the airport, and more importantly: New York.
Meanwhile, Kowalski had zapped everyone but the lemurs and the Chimps. Seeing how he couldn't find Julian anywhere he figured he must still be partying. Something the lemurs had been doing since Carnival began. So, he headed for the Chimps tent.
He steps in to see them… "Packing?" He looks confused.
"Come on you really think you can go anywhere without your thumbs?" Mason asked. Apparently they had been ease dropping as well.
Kowalski paused at this, Mason was right having their thumbs had come in handy more than once, and Skipper might have use for them again. "Okay, but were going on a little detour first, so be ready to leave in five."
Mason nodded and turned to Phil as he did some sign language. He nods again and speaks once more "Phil says, Julian and the lemurs have skipped town, loaded up in shipping crates, long gone by now."
"Figures." Kowalski said and then shrugged the news off. It wasn't like any villain could get those incompetent mammals to talk anyway. "Leave them we have to move, and soon."
The chimps moved more swiftly at the command and in less then three minutes they were packed and with the Penguins by their side they headed towards their destination which was where the tracker was indicating Eva's whereabouts.
"Kowalski where is Eva?" Private asked as they stopped at the docks to stowaway on a nearby boat.
"She appears to be headed towards the Baltic sea." He answered.
"She's getting away!" Private exclaimed.
"No, She isn't." Kowalski declared sending Classified a text with the number he had provided Skipper with before this crazy mission had begun.
Eva wouldn't get far, they'd stop her, and if she was the mole than they would make sure she went down for this.
No matter what!
(Back with Skipper in Denmark…)
Skipper had made it inside the capitol where a buzz of activity was already unfolding. From what skipper had gathered a special guest of the Prime Minister's was joining them for a brunch of sorts. Skipper picked up his pace at this, he had to slip into the Prime Minister's office before the brunch could begin and get the case out without being seen. He had managed to dodge the Danish guards who were walking the halls and soon reached the top floor with no problems. Now he stood in front of the Prime Minister's office with tense muscles, trying to form a plan. He could hear voices and knew that rushing in was not a good plan. If Hans was already in there he could be walking into a deadly trap.
Suddenly a few staff members with food appear in the hall carrying dishes of all sorts on dinning carts.
Skipper hides behind a plotted plant as they appear before diving onto one of the bottom shelves of a passing dining cart just before it enters the Prime Minister's Office. Thankfully the white lining cloth that is placed over the cart hides him from the humans within the room who are moving around in excitement.
Today was a special day for Prime Minster as Anders Fogh Rasmussen, he was having a special brunch with an old friend of his and everything had to be perfect. At the moment the Chief was pulling a large crate of mackerel. It was the Prime Minister's favorite kind of fish, and the chief would be cooking it right there in the Prime Minister's office. He had a portable stove at the ready as other staff members brought in other food items for the buffet. His old friend was a veteran of the Danish Navy and went to college with him back in Brookstone.
It had been so long since he had shared a meal with his friend, and he was looking forward to seeing him.
The Prime Minister himself sat at his desk awaiting his friends arrival when a buzzer rang, and a voice declared. "Sir your guest has arrived would you like me to send him up?"
"No, I will greet him in the lobby and accompany him up." Prime Minster Anders answered happily before getting up and leaving the room.
Skipper looked from under the cloth. Most of the staff had left once the food was put in place, leaving the cook. Waiting for the Chief to be busy looking at the stove, Skipper dived from the dining cart to the Prime Minister's desk. He sighed in relief as he saw the black briefcase was still there. As his flipper reached for it he heard a yelp coming from the direction the chief had been in.
Skipper grabbed the case and held his breath waiting…
"Skipper I know you are here." A familiar voice said.
"Hans!" Skipper spat the name out as he came out from under the desk, briefcase in hand. His eyes widen at the scene before him.
Hans, who obviously came in from the open-air vent to the right of the door, had knocked out the chief. The assault had caused the human to knock over the dining cart that housed the mackerel, the oily fish now littered the ground around them. The puffin notices the briefcase in Skipper's flippers and gets in a fighting stance that screams that he meant business. "Skipper I can't let you leave with that." He said as a matter of factly.
"And I can't let you take it." Skipper countered. He can see the panicked look in the puffins face, and he knows instantly that the Danes are the real enemy. "They double crossed you." He said out loud.
"Yes it would appear I have become a liability." Hans admitted.
Skipper shakes his head, not allowing the news to change the truth about Hans. He was his enemy whether he was with the Danes are not. He killed Marshal and tried to kill him too and that would not be overlooked or forgiven. He goes to draw his umbrella to use it as a weapon but remembers that he had to leave it behind. It's grappling hook had been lodged in the windowsill really good and in his hurry Skipper just couldn't waste time trying to force it free.
He picked up a mostly frozen mackerel and held it like a sword towards his enemy. "Then let's finish this with mackerel."
Hans smiled at this and picked up a fish of his own. "So be it."
The two enemies began to duel with their mackerel swords trying to slap the other with their fishy weapon. Skipper deflected Hans jabs with relative ease, his skill was not lost on the puffin.
"Such talent and you waste it on noble deeds. This world could have been ours Skipper." Hans argued. "It still can be."
"How? By selling the information in this case to your friends?" Skipper screamed accusingly. He jabbed before the puffin can answer.
Hans dodged and thrusted his weapon at Skipper with all the force he could muster.
Skipper barley steps back in time, the fish were still more like frozen icicles then meaty flesh, and while they weren't pointy like swords they were hard and could knock someone out if they weren't quick enough to dodge.
The door opens then to the Prime Minister and his friends.
"What in the World?" Prime Minster Anders exclaimed. Skipper and Hans froze at his words. "Guards, Guards!" He shouted.
Just like that the room was flooded with Danes in black suits and shades. They surrounded their targets out numbering them hundreds to one, or maybe…hundreds to two.
Skipper looks to Hans hopefully and in a moment of wordless communication understanding flows through them. They maybe enemies but the Danes were far worse than any fate they had for each other. Beside the enemy of you enemy is your friend.
Hans lunged for a Dane, drop kicking him in a flash. As the human falls to the floor out cold Skipper attacks as well, several Danes go down as they lung for the briefcase, proving to Skipper that they are just as bad as Hans. Still, with everyone that is defeated two more take their place, there is just too many Danes and soon Skipper and Hans are gasping for air.
"Give it up my friends." Larsen said as he walked in. "The Danes are an unstoppable force."
Skipper looks to Hans hoping the twofaced jerk has an ace up his sleeve, but the puffin id just as backed up in the corner as he is. Skipper realizes then there is one thing to do, he may not be getting out of this, but that didn't mean the mission would be lost. If he destroyed the contents of the briefcase then the enemy couldn't have it either.
Hans seems to read his mind because he nods and jumps into another attack, keeping the enemy busy as Skipper steps back to open the case.
"Ignore him, get the penguin." Larsen orders.
Skipper moves to open the case, he knows there can't be more then a couple of papers, just a list of name of agents. He didn't remember there being more than ten papers printed out on the video feed with Marshal.
He'll eat them! He realized the answer in an instant. He'll eat them and then this whole mess will be over. He opens the briefcase to see…
An open-faced ham and cheese sandwich?!
"Wait what?" Skipper says in confusion. "Where's the papers?"
The confuse faces around him tells him that no one knows, at least no one in that room!
The third party! Skipper realizes they must have gotten here first somehow and stolen the papers inside replacing them with a sandwich at an attempt of some sick joke.
"Kill them, kill them both!" Larsen ordered realizing the only way to remain blameless was to get rid of the only two how would speak against them.
Thinking fast Hans races for the window, Skipper knows what he is planning it's the same escape he pulled just hours before, but they won't make it in time, not without a diversion. Seeing no other option Skipper looks to the sandwich before him and places an American flag on a toothpick through it.
He then pushes the case towards the charging Danes who stop everything to fix the monstrosity that Skipper had created.
"How dare you deface our Ham and cheese!" Larsen cried as Prime Minster Anders fainted at the sight.
Hans had just enough time to snicker before he dives out the open window.
Skipper jumps too ready to fall to his death several feet below when Hans catches him in the air.
The Puffin who had killed Marshal was flying them to safety.
"You saved me?" Skipper looked puzzled.
"Just as you saved me back there." Hans huffed. "Now we're even."
Silence follows, it doesn't last long.
"This doesn't change anything." He said. "This doesn't change what you've done. I'll get you for this Hans. If it's the last thing I do!"
Hans smiled despite the venom dripping in Skipper's voice. "Maybe, maybe not." And with that he dropped Skipper who landed on roof top below unharmed. "Until we meet again Skipper!" He shouted as he flew off into the unknown.
Skipper wanted so badly to follow him, to stop him from getting away, to make good on his promise. But he knew he had bigger problems. The Danes wanted him dead, he had to get out of Denmark…NOW!
With that thought fresh on his mind he headed for the docks, his destination: New York!
