"Demiurge, Shalltear. Please return to your duties if you have nothing else to report." Ainz's deep voice allowed no argument, even though Ahna didn't think that they would argue with him. However both guardians looked so shocked at her statement and hurt that they didn't immediately compile with his request.
It took a few seconds for Shaltear to nod and move, but Demiurge just continued to stare at Ahna for a few extra seconds. He hadn't seen this coming. Was the Tomb not up to par with her last home? After everything, were they going to leave them? His master and mistress?!
"Demiurge." This time it was Ahna who spoke with a sharp voice. "Ainz wishes for his answer to be confidential. Please leave so we may talk."
The cold way she spoke was as if Cocytus had reached into him. It froze him to his very core. There was not a smile on her face nor any emotion in her eyes. She expected him to leave without knowing if his entire reason for being wasn't just about to discuss leaving.
But he was loyal if nothing else and nodded stiffly before joining Shalltear in the corridor. Once Ainz was sure that they were out of ear shot he leveled his eye holes at her. "That was a bit harsh."
"He worries too much. I am not planning on leaving, even if the option presents itself. I was asking if you wanted to go home. I am sure if we tried hard enough we could do it." Ahna hadn't looked away from the door the two guardians had left through. "I will apologize to him for the harshness at a later date." She said it like an afterthought less for him to hear and more for her to remind herself of.
"Even if we had the chance here, it has been almost a week. I doubt that our living bodies survived that long without food. Plus, if we really were still connected to it the nanobot would have been flushed from our systems…"
"Ainz I didn't ask if you thought it was possible. I asked if you wanted to or not. The way I see it is we have two steps moving forward. One," Ahna held up one pale clawed finger. "We work on a way to get back to the real world or at least we should call it the other world now. Or two," She added her second finger. "We do what it takes to ensure that Nazarick comes under no threats and makes this place our home."
"What do you mean?"
"I mean… we are monsters Ainz. we aren't demihumans and some of us aren't even human like. If we want to make a home for ourselves the way to do that is to make sure no one will rise against us."
Ainz felt the numbing effect take away his many emotions from that statement. Was she right? Almost certainly. If the game world showed them anything it was that humans and to a lesser degree demihumans didn't take kindly to 'Monsters'. This meant that one step into a village undisguised would result in them being targeted by the humans. "You do understand what you are implying? You are talking about starting a war."
Ahna met Ainz's gaze and held it, she wasn't backing down nor was she fighting him. This was simply her declaration of what she saw the situation devolving to and in her mind she was taking steps to destroy anything that had the potential to stand against them. He could see it in her eyes. She was going to make a place in this new world for the Tomb come hell or High water.
"I don't want to leave." This voice was spoken softer, it wasn't the voice of Ainz but the person who was once the human. He didn't elaborate and he didn't have to. Ahna knew because she never wanted to leave either. She wasn't alone anymore. Here she was important to someone. She was needed here and she would bring every one of her skills to the table.
"If we don't want to leave, then we need to fight for a place here." She moved away from her untouched tray of food and grabbed a stack of papers, those that were clean and had no writing. "Before we can launch an attack we need information and allies."
"Allies?"
"Yes, we can't be seen as totally evil, besides after what you said on that outing with Demi he's convinced you want to conquer the world anyways." She smiled as Ainz seemed to falter for a moment.
"Why would he think that?"
"Oh he said that you told him the most fun you could have would be…" She didn't even finish the sentence when she heard the skeleton's groan. "I told you we would have to be careful of our words."
"It was an off handed comment." He protested.
"Regardless, I don't think it is a bad idea."
"I suppose you have a plan?" Ainz asked, knowing full well the answer.
"Don't I always?"
