Elijah narrowed his brown eyes on Katherine inspecting her curiously. When he had gotten her message to meet up he wasn't sure what to expect. He hadn't seen his Katerina for many years.
"Which is?" Elijah asked raising his eyebrow slightly. Katherine lowered her head and scoffed slightly.
"Bennett witch…Petrova doppleganger…ring a bell?" Katherine said meeting his eyes again. It was Elijah's turn to break the eye contact this time.
"And I suppose you are expecting something in return for this." Elijah spoke matter of factly.
"My freedom would be nice." Katherine replied resting her back against her chair and crossing her arms in front of her chest.
"Last time I checked, Katerina, you were not our hostage." Elijah replied tilting his head to the side slightly. Katherine smirked.
"Are we going to pretend that your brother has not spent the last 500 years chasing me? You know for a thousand year old guy he gets awfully bitter." Katherine said raising her eyebrow.
"He does have quite a temper." Elijah simply agreed. Klaus was his family and he always stood by his side but he knew first hand that Katherine running away was what any sane person would have done in her place. They had briefly met since then but the Katerina he remembered and the Katherine he became acquainted with later on were quite different.
"So..what do you say Elijah?" Katherine asked leaning forward again resting her arms on the table.
Bonnie must have spent at least an hour up in her room and she was about to finish her last book for the day. She was ready to give up. Maybe, and she couldn't believe she was thinking about it, Damon was actually right and it was all just a dream. But no! It felt too real and too scary for her to ignore. She shook her head and let her eyes fall on the title of the last chapter. "BEASTS". It was as simple as that. She narrowed her olive green eyes inquisitively on the word.
"Given the area we are currently in and the tendency of history to repeat itself, I would assume both the Bennett Witch and the Petrova Doppleganger reside in Mystic Falls. Is that right Katerina?" Elijah said. He was definitely not a fool and Katherine knew that very well. "I suppose it wouldn't be too hard to find them ourselves…so why should I take you up on your offer?" Katherine's face was overtaken by a sour expression as she averted her eyes from the Original. She had to admit she expected it to be a tad easier convincing him given their history but she also knew the risks. Elijah was a man who valued family above everything else and his loyalty to Klaus was unshakeable. Still though, she was Katherine Pierce. If there was one thing she knew how to do was surviving and having endless backup plans.
"As you have figured out by now Elijah, I'm not the same person I was all those years ago…mostly thanks to your brother," Katherine started, locking her eyes to the Original's. "I already know where they are. If you refuse my offer I will not hesitate to take them out and good luck telling Klaus he has to wait another century to break his curse. You can find them but it will take you time…more time than it will take me to rip their heads off." Katherine concluded leaning back against her chair. Elijah shook his head. Katherine stood up straightening her black leather jacket.
"You have my number. I will await your decision. If you try to find them yourself I will know…and the only thing you will find will be their dead bodies. If Klaus wants them he has to strike a deal. I need your word." Katherine said before turning to leave.
"Katerina…you're just going to anger him more." Elijah said turning to look at her. Katherine didn't face him and kept looking at the exit.
"I got nothing left to lose Elijah. And you know how dangerous that can make me." She said and walked out of the café. As soon as she was in safe distance she pulled her phone out of her pocket and dialed a number.
"Hello." The female voice on the other end was heard.
"Time for that pay back." Katherine said smirking slightly.
Bonnie read carefully. This was it. It clearly talked about werewolves. Could that be used as evidence? Was it legit? She had yet to decide. Elena once mentioned how proud Damon was of his library and how every single tome and book was handpicked by generations upon generations of Salvatores. Suddenly she caught herself wondering why the hell she remembered her doppleganger friend's rumblings about the elder Salvatore brother especially since she couldn't stand him, but that was an issue for another time. Right now there were more pressing matters. She grabbed the book and quickly ran downstairs.
Damon was still in the library. He had taken her previous spot, sitting on the armchair she was seated on not too long ago. He was resting his back on the chair's back and his feet, crossed at the ankles, on the short stool that was in front of it. Bonnie caught herself staring for a while and making observations about the insanely attractive yet insufferable creature in front of her. She had noticed that Damon was not exactly the tallest man she had seen and was definitely shorter than Stefan but she still felt very small in front of him. Especially now seeing him in that armchair that was big enough for her to climb and sink in. She was only around 5'2 after all. Bonnie snapped out of it and slightly shook her head. She wouldn't want him to think she was ogling him. He was a vampire with excellent senses and he should have figured out she was standing at the doorway by now.
Bonnie made her way further into the library clutching the book tightly against her chest, a proud smirk gracing her full lips, her light curls bouncing up and down and framing her face beautifully as she approached the vampire. Damon turned to look at her and for just one second he caught himself wanting to smile along with her. Happy was definitely a good look on her and one he definitely didn't see often, especially directed at him. He quickly pushed the feeling down and raised his eyebrow slightly.
"And here I thought I was gonna keep getting the silent treatment," Damon commented. Bonnie ignored his comment with an eye roll as she always did. She had decided that he was way less annoying when he didn't speak. She took a seat on the arm rest of the armchair and waved the book in front of Damon.
"There are more important things than our fights right now Damon. Page one hundred and seventytwo," She said, the cheeky smile never leaving her face. Damon took the book in his hands and opened it to the page the little Bennett witch spoke so proudly about.
"And are you sure this is referring to werewolves?" Damon asked after a quick read.
"Well what else could it be?" Bonnie shrugged and grabbed the book from his hands, standing up.
"Well even if it is…it still doesn't say much about them," Damon reasoned with the little Bennett witch as the proud smile slowly left her face and got replaced by narrowed eyes and an expression of defiance.
"Well it's better than what you've found…which is basically nothing," Bonnie said resting the book on a small table and folding her arms in front of her chest. Damon scoffed.
"Yeah because you happened to have that book. It was pure luck so don't flatter yourself judgy," Damon said knowing that that would certainly rub her the wrong way.
"Do you ever stop being annoying?" Bonnie mumbled, even though she knew perfectly well he can hear her. Damon did not really react but instead his expression turned back to serious.
"So any update on the six figures you were talking about?" Damon asked narrowing his eyes slightly. Bonnie shook her head.
"No nothing…although I don't know what you expected. I mean…I don't usually daydream upcoming events," Bonnie said sarcastically but Damon decided not to sass her this time because he knew he had to be on his best behavior if he wanted her to even think about what he was going to propose next.
"I would feel much more at ease if I could see what you saw," Damon said. Bonnie seemed unaffected meaning she probably didn't realize that he actually meant it. When he kept staring at her expectantly she realized what he was hinting at and her green eyes widened a bit.
"No way. Absolutely not. Do not even think about it!" Bonnie said shaking her head. "There is no way I'm letting you in my head," she said firmly and Damon rolled his eyes.
"Afraid I'm gonna find out your secrets?" Damon said sarcastically and Bonnie narrowed her eyes on him. "Oh come on! You're just going to show me the damn dream and we'll be done with it." Damon said rolling his eyes, believing that she was clearly overreacting.
"Not. A chance. In hell!" Bonnie shook her head again.
"So I passed by Bonnie's earlier but no one was there…and I think she's been dodging my calls. What the hell is going on?" Caroline said folding her arms in front of her chest, an inquisitive look in her eyes. Elena took a deep breath and looked awkwardly around shrugging slightly.
"There's nothing going on Caroline. Bon just…had some trouble with her plumbing, her dad wasn't there…so she's staying at the Boarding House for now." Elena said casually trying to sell it as better as she could. Fooling Caroline was neither easy nor pleasant but they all had agreed that supernatural creatures and Elena aside, no one else needed to know. It was safer that way.
"Wait what?! Bonnie at the Salvatore House? Are you kidding me? She hates Damon's guts, rightfully so, and she and Stefan are not too close," Caroline said matter of factly already seeing through Elena's story.
"Well….Stefan was present when we were talking about it…and he offered her the option of staying there since the Boarding House is huge…that's all," Elena said shrugging again and looking anywhere else but Caroline's eyes. Caroline frowned softly.
"That's weird…i'm gonna have to talk to her myself so that she can tell me what possessed her and she actually accepted the offer," Caroline said earning a weird look from Elena.
"What? I'm not offending your boyfriend don't worry. You know I appreciate Stefan…it's just it doesn't really sound like something Bonnie would agree to…plus Damon's included in the package so that just makes it all the more suspicious," Caroline concluded. Normally Elena would scold Caroline for badmouthing Damon but after the recent events she had no desire to do so, so she just shook her head and slightly smiled at her friend's antics. Caroline sipped her drink unbothered.
"I can't believe you actually talked me into this…" Bonnie said looking anywhere else in the room but Damon's face. Damon would have found it flattering if this wasn't the Bennett witch and if he wasn't sure, that the only reason she didn't even look at his face was because she hated his guts and not because she was mesmerized or overwhelmed by his presence, like women usually were.
"I must admit, I expected it to be harder…all I had to do was say 'for everyone's safety' and you were ready to do anything like the goody two shoes, hero, wonder woman you think you are," Damon said smirking.
"There's still time for me to change my mind you know," Bonnie said looking at him with narrowed green eyes.
"Easy there now judgy. I was just kidding," Damon said smirking and raising his hands slightly. Bonnie gave him a look that indicated she didn't believe him before she continued placing the candles in the circle of salt they had made on the study floor. Damon looked at the mess displeased. Bonnie tried to hold back her laughter.
"Relax. It'll be over soon and then you can clean as much as you want," she said cheekily as she tried her hardest not to burst in giggles. She found it truly hilarious how Damon jumped up in full vamp speed practically screaming "NO" as she threatened to pour the salt on the carpet earlier, when he had showed no desire to help with the set up even though this was his idea in the first place.
"Oh you're helping me clean this judgy. Anyways less talking more…candle placing…or whatever," Damon said unamused and Bonnie shook her head putting the last candle in place. "Why do we need all this anyway? Vampires have a free pass on mortals' minds," Damon said raising his eyebrow. Bonnie shrugged and used her magic to light up the candles.
"Supposedly it will help you get a better understanding of what I'll be showing you and it will make you feel like you're actually there. Besides entering someone's mind and making them see things is different than trying to navigate in someone's memories or subconscious," Bonnie explained as she entered the salt circle and kneeled down. She took the grimoire in her hands and opened it to the marked page. She had actually looked for the spell earlier to make sure everything she needed was there. She took a deep breath and looked up at Damon, uncertainty written all over her face. Damon rolled his eyes.
"Oh come on! Don't go getting cold feet now. What's the issue?" he asked as he got in the circle and kneeled down as well.
"I've never done anything like this before Damon! There's like a million different ways it could go wrong," Bonnie said frustrated. Damon shook his head.
"As surprising as it is…you've never messed up with your magic so far. So what makes you think you will now?" Damon asked raising his eyebrow and smirking trying to keep her from backing out. Bonnie sighed.
"Ok first we need to…exchange…some blood," Bonnie said with a hint of displeasure.
"That'll be easy," Damon stated. Bonnie narrowed her eyes on him. It got on her nerves how he had this obvious "it's not a big deal" attitude with literally everything.
"Yeah maybe it would be if you hadn't tried to suck me dry twice already!" Bonnie exclaimed. "I don't want your teeth anywhere near my skin…I'll just make a small cut on my palm…and you can lick it or something," Bonnie said matter of factly.
"Lick your palm? Newsflash judgy…I'm not a dog," Damon said as he took hold of Bonnie's hand bringing her wrist up to his lips. He looked at her briefly. She didn't seem too pleased but she didn't try to pull her wrist back or protest so he assumed he was good to go. Bonnie's breath hitched when she felt his sharp fangs softly break her skin. That hurt a lot less than what she remembered. His lips were soft against her skin as he sucked gently on the fresh wound. For a while she just forgot about the spell. All she could do was observe him. When his icy blue eyes made contact with her forest green ones she was pulled out of her thoughts.
"Ok that's enough," she said quickly pulling back her arm. Damon licked his lips. He would never tell her that but she for sure was one tasty little thing. Witch blood always had an extra something to it, he could never pinpoint, but Bonnie's specifically was one of the sweetest things he had ever tasted. Damon brought his own wrist up to his lips this time and bit on it. He proceeded to extend his arm towards her. Bonnie looked at him briefly before taking hold of his hand and having her own little drink, until his wrist healed completely. Looking at her own wrist, she wasn't surprised to discover that it had healed completely too. Perks of vampire blood.
"Now it's time for the spell," Bonnie stated. She took a deep breath and closed her eyes extending her hands towards Damon. He nodded and grabbed Bonnie's hands closing his eyes as well. He felt a small jolt when his skin made contact with hers but he was sure the upcoming spell was to blame.
Bonnie started chanting as soon as they held hands. She figured that the quicker they got this over with the less awkward it would be. Damon felt his eyelids getting heavier, his undead heart starting to beat faster. Was this fear, he was feeling all of a sudden? He hadn't felt that in a while. He chalked that up to the spell as well.
Suddenly he found himself in the middle of the woods, surrounded by tall trees and a thick fog. It all seemed so real. There they were. In the distance. Six figures, just like judgy had told him. Two of them seemed females and the other four were males. One of the male figures was slightly standing closer to him than the rest. He suddenly dropped to his knees. Then it all went down just like witchy said. His bones started breaking as he morphed into an animal, a wolf. He lashed at Damon full speed.
That's when Damon opened his eyes pulling his hands back, panting hard. Bonnie soon opened her eyes as well. It took her a while to take in her surroundings. At first Damon thought she might have relived the memory with him but her heartbeat was oddly calm. Her face on the other hand seemed different. Like she was embarrassed about something. Like she had something to hide. Damon narrowed his eyes at her suspiciously.
"You ok?" he asked curiously. Bonnie briefly met his eyes before immediately breaking eye contact again. She seemed flustered.
"Uhm yeah, yeah I'm fine. Did it work? Did you see them?" Bonnie asked still avoiding to look at him. Damon studied her face for a while longer before giving her his reply.
"Yeah I did. It was just like you said. Didn't manage to notice anything else unfortunately," He said and Bonnie nodded before quickly getting up. With a movement of her hand she made the little, burning, candle flames disappear and pressing her grimoire tightly against her chest she started making her way upstairs.
"See I told you it was pointless," she said lowly and rushed up the stairs to her room. Damon's eyes didn't stop following her until she disappeared in the corridor upstairs.
"Hey! You have to help me clean this up!" he protested.
"I'll be right back…I just need a minute," Bonnie's voice was heard. Damon frowned slightly in thought. What the hell was up with this little witch now?
Bonnie spent the next ten minutes in the bathroom of her new room. Was that supposed to happen? She was supposed to show Damon her dream and be done with it. Did Damon even know he projected memories back to her? Judging by his reaction and confusion to how weird she had been after the spell was over, she assumed that he didn't.
It was weird seeing him like that. Human, vulnerable, in love. When she opened her eyes and realized she was standing a few inches away from a totally human, 1864 version of Damon Salvatore she was surprised. She thought something had gone wrong but there was nothing she could do at the moment, not until the spell was over by itself and Damon saw what he was supposed to see.
She recalled how she quickly moved her hand in front of him to make sure he couldn't see or hear her. Then the door opened and Katherine came in. Bonnie was still stunned by her resemblance to Elena. She was in a big, era appropriate dress. Her hair was curled and in an updo. She looked beautiful. She felt her heart flutter much like Damon's did in that second. She was feeling what he was feeling. When Katherine rejected his advances for the night, she felt the pain and jealousy tugging on her heartstrings. If that was what unrequited love felt like she was glad she wasn't in love, yet.
She poured some water on her face and tapped it away with a towel before fixing her hair and finally heading downstairs to help Damon clean up. He had already started putting the candles away when she arrived. He brought his eyes to her, scanning her up and down.
"Are you ok?" He asked narrowing his eyes suspiciously. She nodded and grabbed a broom to sweep the salt away. It wasn't just the emotional roller coaster she went through while hitching a ride in Damon Salvatore's love life. The spell must have taken a toll on her. She was slightly dizzy. She stopped for a moment, holding on the broomstick for support as her vision started getting slightly blurry.
Damon smelled her blood before he turned to see her collapsing on the floor. Using his vamp speed he managed to get to her before she hit the ground. A trail of blood was going from her nose down to her lips and chin. He frowned softly. Last time he saw her like that was when he had tried to kill her in the woods. He gathered her small frame in his arms and vamp sped up the stairs into the room she was occupying.
Damon gently placed her on the bed and sat next to her lying body. He brushed her hair off her face and ran his thumb over her lips wiping some of the blood off before licking his thumb clean of her blood. He felt a bit weird and creepy for doing that but it's not like he was going to have a taste again. If it was up to witchy her tasty blood would stay away from him till hell froze over. But it was time to stop thinking about it. Soon judgy would be up again. Her heart beat was a bit more distinct and steady now.
He quickly grabbed a cloth and some water to clean up the blood off her face and then headed downstairs. He decided it would be nice of him to make her a cup of the hot chocolate she enjoyed so much. Why? He just felt generous. Or maybe he owed her. He did owe her. He had brought her pain when she hadn't really done anything to deserve it. It was Emily who destroyed the crystal not Bonnie. It was Emily who broke her promise. Bonnie still helped get the tomb open even though she had no reason to. She lost her grandma in the process. All that because of his desire to see Katherine again.
Katherine. She was out this whole time and didn't care. He felt like a fool for trying to be with her even after everything, the moment she returned to town. And then she revealed she never loved him. She was also the reason he had to babysit witchy. What the hell did Katherine want from her? Why now after all this time? There definitely was something going on. Katherine never did anything without a reason.
Damon was pulled out of his thoughts when he realized that the beverage was ready. He poured the hot chocolate in a mint green mug and took it upstairs. Upon entering the bedroom he noticed that Bonnie was trying to get up.
"Well, well, well, look who's up…" he said amused as Bonnie looked at him somewhat startled, like a child getting caught red handed. She must have not noticed him getting in, he thought.
"Does this happen often?" he asked while extending his hand with the mug towards her. Bonnie grabbed the mug and sat back, her back resting against the bed frame.
"Only when a spell is tough," She said looking at the mug.
"It's not poisoned," Damon said and Bonnie scoffed before taking a sip.
"Thanks. You didn't have to," Bonnie said lowering her eyes again. She would have never thought Damon Salvatore would do anything for her out of the kindness of his heart.
"I know…just felt like it," Damon replied and Bonnie narrowed her eyes on him.
"Damon Salvatore trying to be nice and thoughtful. Thought I'd never see the day," She said nodding.
"Enjoy it while it lasts," Damon replied in an equally sarcastic tone before leaving the room.
After sipping her drink Bonnie felt much better. It did have somewhat of a different after taste though. Damon thought he'd do her a favor and add some of his blood to the hot chocolate. He knew she would be too proud to say 'yes' if he asked her directly and surprisingly so, he didn't feel like seeing her struggle with her wellbeing today and all that because of him. He paused for a moment. When did he start caring about the witch? He shrugged it off as his subconscious trying to make him correct his wrongs. Deep down he knew that even though he tried hard to make everyone around him hate him, he was also craving approval and praise.
Katherine was waiting for her in a house on the outskirts of Mystic Falls. She was late. Katherine was not surprised. She might have shared somewhat of a friendship with her but she knew their relationship was more about the debt they had to settle. A knock was heard on the door.
"Lucy. You're here," Katherine acknowledged the female witch as she opened the door for her to step in.
"I owe you don't I?" Lucy stated smirking before giving Katherine a hug.
"That you do…which is why I need you to do something for me," Katherine said as they both took a seat. "I need you to do a cloaking spell...with a twist on two girls," Katherine concluded.
"With a twist?" Lucy repeated raising her eyebrow. "You want me to put an alarm system on two people?" she asked with disbelief.
"Exactly. See there's two people that I need in order to bargain about something very important with the big bad of my story. I can't trust he won't try to find them himself so I need to make sure that won't happen," Katherine explained and Lucy nodded.
"I'll do what I can," Lucy replied standing up and pulling her grimoire out of the big black leather back she was carrying. "I will need something of theirs though," she concluded as she took her seat again.
"Well sit back and relax Lucy. I'm gonna be back soon," Katherine said with a mischievous smirk as she grabbed her black leather jacket and left.
Sneaking into Elena's room and stealing the photo from her vanity wasn't hard at all for Katherine. She was invited in and she also was a five hundred year old vampire with a striking resemblance to one of the house's owners. Getting something that belonged to the little witch though was going to be severely more challenging.
She was well aware that the Bennett witch and all her belongings were currently residing under the Salvatore brothers' roof, who were surprisingly eager to watch her like hawks. She wasn't one to back down from her plans though so she'd gladly take the risk.
Sneaking in proved to be easier than she originally thought. She managed to elude Damon's attention as he seemed to be too busy day drinking and reading. Finding the room the Bennett witch occupied in this huge house initially seemed to be a nightmare but Katherine was no fool. Damon and Stefan surely accommodated her in a room close to theirs so that they can efficiently guard her. And so the search started.
As quietly as possible Katherine opened door after door until she spotted Bonnie sleeping soundly, curled up on a double bed way too big in comparison to her small frame. Katherine scoffed. The Salvatores were supposed to do their job as her guards, that's why she messed with Bonnie in the first place. Klaus could have been the one to sneak in and kidnap the little, magic, sleeping beauty and he would be met with no resistance, which meant all her plans went to hell. She would have to leave a message for the two brothers as soon as she got what she went there for, which probably meant another scare for the Bennett witch.
Katherine locked her eyes on Bonnie's brush that was put away in a small see through bag, that also held other products. It seemed like the little witch had a thorough skincare routine. Stealing a strand of dark curly hair, Katherine helped herself through Bonnie's not too limited but not too big either, collection of lipsticks. For a while she doubted Bonnie would own a bright red but she did. It did seem quite unused which did not surprise her. The few times she met with Bonnie or saw her from a distance she always seemed to be quite a discreet presence. It seemed like the little witch was either not entirely aware of her beauty or way too aware of it, so much that she did not need to advertise it or try and draw attention to it.
Katherine walked up to Bonnie's mirror as quietly as possible. After she was done leaving her message she smirked and flashed to the window. She opened it slowly, careful not to make unnecessary noise. Crossing her arms in front of her chest, smirk never leaving her face, she moved on to the last step of her plan.
Bonnie was in the room she was currently occupying in the Salvatore Boarding House. She was resting on the bed, legs crossed at the ankles, studying her grimoire. Suddenly the weather changed. Clouds hid the sun and a strong wind started. She put the grimoire on the bed gently and stood up, approaching the window to see for herself what was going on. She thought to herself that a storm was coming. Before she was able to do anything else the window exploded, the glass breaking into million tiny pieces. Bonnie let a scream and jumped back instinctively curling to a ball on the floor, trying to protect herself from the aftermath of the broken window. As she slowly removed her hands from her face and looked towards what was left of the window she heard a noise behind her. Bonnie turned around, her palms firmly against the floor, and winced as she realized she accidentally cut herself.
"Witch blood is always the best," a mischievous voice was heard and Bonnie raised her green eyes to Katherine's brown ones. She raised her hand in an attempt to repel the vampire with her magic but nothing happened. Bonnie looked at her hand, surprise and fear on her face.
"I'm in control now Bon Bon," Katherine spoke again before lunging at the Bennett witch in full vampire speed.
Bonnie opened her eyes and quickly sat on the bed panting. This wasn't like the other dreams she had. It wasn't like a warning. Even if they were scary, she still felt some level of control over her premonition dreams. This one was different. It felt like someone else was controlling what she was seeing. She didn't need to wonder who as her eyes fell on the vanity mirror across from her bed.
"Oh my God…" she mumbled her heart drumming in her chest.
Damon was downstairs, pouring himself a glass of bourbon, when a sudden feeling of unease took over him. That was new. As an old vampire and a rather deadly one at that, that was not a feeling he was accustomed to in his everyday life. It was also kind of faint. Like a rather mild instinct that something was not ok. Damon tuned in with his vampire hearing as he felt a quite overwhelming need to make sure his new housemate was ok. As soon as Bonnie's overly accelerated heartbeat caught his attention, he flashed upstairs in full vampire speed, a worried look on his face. He stormed in only to find Bonnie, standing frozen, kind of pale, in front of her vanity mirror. Taken by surprise the green eyed witch turned to him. The fear was evident on her features.
"She was here," was all she managed to say before practically running to the ensuite. Damon approached the vanity. 'Sweet Dreams Bon Bon –KP' was written on it in red lipstick.
"That bitch," Damon mumbled shaking his head.
"So let me get this straight...Katherine broke into our house and left a message on Bonnie's mirror," Stefan repeated narrowing his green eyes on his brother.
"After she gave me a dream," Bonnie intervened. Stefan nodded.
"She's trying to scare us into tightening security," Damon commented earning a questioning look from Bonnie.
"What is that supposed to mean?" Bonnie asked frowning. Damon turned to Stefan.
"Right! Last night Katherine stopped by Elena's where she indirectly admitted that she basically scared you so that we can watch over you because she apparently needs you for something," Stefan said and Bonnie's eyebrows were almost at her hairline.
"And why am I hearing about this now?" she turned to Damon. He obviously knew and didn't tell her even though they spent most of the day together.
"It slipped my mind. Besides we had other things to worry about," Damon shrugged dismissively and Bonnie shook her head.
"Well in that case…she doesn't want to harm me…so there's no reason for me to stay here," Bonnie said matter of factlly.
"That's where you're wrong witchy," Damon said smiling. He was, once again, going to rain on her parade and loved every second of it. "She mentioned to my baby bro over here that there are 'things' in the world far more evil than her, that might be on their way here. She also said she needs you alive and well in order to survive," Damon concluded and Bonnie turned to Stefan who just nodded confirming his brother's words.
"So she wants to use me as her weapon or what? Like that's gonna happen," Bonnie said sounding slightly offended. Damon chuckled. Did he feel proud of her all of a sudden? Why? He was surprised by his own reaction so he immediately turned serious and averted eye contact when Bonnie's eyes fell on him.
"It seems like it. She was kind of vague about the whole situation," Stefan said.
"So those 'evil things' are the reason she wants me protected? Are they gonna come for me?" Bonnie asked wide eyed raising her eyebrows.
"It sounds like it," Damon said and Bonnie sighed.
"Ok we obviously need to do better. If Katherine was able to get in without us having a clue then those mystery evil guys that the queen bitch herself is afraid of will probably be ten times worse," Damon added.
"She was under your watch I wasn't even here, so…" Stefan started.
"That's part of the problem little bro," Damon intervened. "We're supposed to keep her safe and you're spending all your time with your girlfriend. Looks like I'm the only one who actually takes the job seriously," he concluded a little too passionately for what Bonnie was used to. What the hell was wrong with him, she thought. When did Damon Salvatore become so hell bent on keeping her safe? Bonnie chalked it up to him trying to keep Stefan away from Elena. It made way more sense in her head.
"You know all of this would be a non issue if I just stayed at my grams' but ok," Bonnie mumbled.
"Not happening. We don't know who these people are or what they're capable of. Maybe they're not even vampires," Damon said firmly.
"You think it has to do with the six figures and the werewolf suspicions don't you?" Bonnie asked standing up as the realization hitting her.
"Ding ding ding, we have a winner!" Damon exclaimed.
"Oh boy…." Bonnie said plopping back down on the couch, clearly worried. This was going to be one hell of a ride.
Thank you so much for putting up with my extremely slow updates! Don't forget to tell me what you think! See you on the next one. Stay safe my loves.
