Chapter One
The Bad Apple
Deep in the Japanese countryside, the Muteki Estate spread over the span of three acres, filled with dining halls, pools, and gardens for the guests to enjoy. The shrubs were always being tightly trimmed, staying in a square shape, and the brick sidewalk that led them through the grassy terrain was always being washed to maintain its shiny red color.
The trees were all oak, and female too. Mr Muteki had a annoying allergy to pollen, and hed rather have the massive yard be filled with acorns and squirrels then not be able to breath through his nose every spring.
The Mansion was located in the center of the estate, being a three story house decorated with marble floors, paintings from different countries and the grand staircase that led up to the second floor, before splitting diagonally up to the third and fourth. The banisters and columns still smelt of fresh paint, even if the house itself was fourteen something years old.
The owner of the estate, Toshi Muteki, loved and took pride in the home he had. As one of the leading figures in Technological Advancements, Toshi's empire that started with Muteki Technologies, was known across the world. Power, Respect, a beautiful wife with two children, he had everything he ever needed.
That is why in the left wing of the mansion, Toshi Muteki enjoyed sitting in his favorite red velvet chair, staring at the fireplace, smoking a pipe. The side effects of his quirk allowed him to not feel the effects of smoke, and he was proud of it. He read the newspaper front and back, reading the new information currently going on in Japan.
"Number One Hero Deku saves bus full of citizens from a earthquake," Toshi Muteki muttered aloud, before folding the newspaper and calling his wife.
"LAYLA?"
Enter Mrs. Muteki.
An Hispanic-American through and through, she was proud to be able to travel the world as a Pro Hero known as 'The Invincible Hero, Rubber.' Her brown eyes and auburn hair passed down to their youngest son, while the eldest gained a mimic of his father's looks. Her quirk allowed her to shrug off most physical attacks, and when she retired, she retired young and engaged to Toshi.
"Yes Tosh?" She asked, putting her brown hair in a loose ponytail.
Toshi removed his glasses, "Did you hear about Deku saving a bus today?"
"Today? Honey, he did that four days ago," Layla smirked, "Still reading the newspapers huh? For a Founder of A Technologies Company, you sure are old fashioned."
"It's a habit from my father," Toshi smiled warmly, resting his pipe down, "As is the pipe. Has Tasai come home yet?"
Layla nodded, walking over to the fireplace to add a log, "Yes, Paul just dropped him off."
Toshi nodded, proud of his eldest son.
Tasai Muteki was, in better terms, the prodigal son. He was intelligent in ways most twelve year old's weren't, and his eyes always shone with a slight ignorance of the world. At age six, he was diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome, a hyperlexic form of Autism. If you looked at him, you'd just think Tasai was smart. But if you looked closer, you'd see the side that his brother would mock and scorn. His quirk was rather handy, called Psychometry, which allowed him to see the past of an object. For example, if he touched a guitar, he'd be able to play every song ever played on that specific guitar.
Without a doubt, Tasai was the favorite son.
The spiky brown haired kid walked calmly into the den, setting his backpack down in the nearby chair. "Hi father."
"Tasai," Toshi smiled, "How was your classes."
"Great!" He said with excitement, "Our teacher got who discovered America wrong, and I got to correct him! It was so cool, he said I was clearly gifted with history! Did you know that Vikings discovered America thinking it was-"
"Tasai, you're rambling," Layla sighed.
Tasai pursed his lip, "Yeah, but I'm not finished with the day!"
"Go upstairs and finish your homework, then you can talk about the day," Layla smirked.
Tasai smirked back, "ACTUALLY I did it all in the ride home. Paul said I should wait till I get home, but I rarely listen to him. So back to the day, the teach-"
"Then go upstairs and clean your room, and if it is clean now, take a shower!" Layla laughed, ruffling her eldest son's hair.
As Tasai out the room to the grand staircase, Toshi's phone rang and when he looked at the caller ID, he sighed.
"Is it the school?"
Toshi nodded, his face shifting to one of irritation. He put the device to his phone, "This is Toshi Muteki."
"Hello Mr Muteki, we need to talk about your son, Katsu..."
Katsu Muteki is what one would call, the problem child. His short brown hair and Auburn eyes shined with arrogance and confidence that wherever he walked, he just oozed with energy.
Even when his face collides with the concrete pavement, scratching his face.
He rubbed his jaw, pushing himself off the ground as his fellow students circled him and his adversary, a shorter but older kid with a blonde mullet, kicked him down again with a grunt.
"Say that again you yellow spic!" he shouted, angered by the daring to stand up to him.
Katsu brushed the hair out his eyes, starting to stand up, with a huge smile and cackle on his face, "I said you're mother makes her living on HER BACK!"
The kid punched Katsu in the gut, while Katsu doubled over in pain, still smirking.
"You'll have to do better then that pal."
For all his confidence and arrogance, one thing was certain. He had no quirk of his own. Not yet. The doctors couldn't explain it. He showed all signs of having a quirk, but was quickly dubbed as a late bloomer. The doctors said he would get his quirk in possibly two more years.
They said that five years ago.
The mullet kid snarled, "In America we have an old saying. Dog eat dog, we-"
He was interrupted by Katsu shoving his fist upward between his legs, replacing his boasting a huge groan and squeal.
"Do all Americans just talk or just the stupid ones?" Katsu smirked, bringing his knee into the Bully's mouth, blood spitting out.
Katsu grinned ducking under a wild hook from the American Bully, "When you have to fight, fight. Don't talk."
Katsu took his own advice and shut his mouth from there on, dodging around the Bully's swings. The Bully eventually broke through Katsu's defense, punching him to a nearby pole fixture, and slamming and pinning his head to the pole.
"You stupid yellow fuck!" The American snarled.
Katsu smirked, "HEY! I may be yellow, but you'll be black and blue when I'm done!"
Just when the bully was going to respond, Katsu grabbed his head and slammed it behind him into the pole, then kicking him away. When the Bully had recovered, Katsu had already slammed his fist directly into the Bully's jaw.
"Heh, this dog still had a bite now don't he?" The bully spat blood and raised his palms of his hands.
Instantly Katsu ducked under the ground, dodging three pin like needles that shot from his palm.
"Would ya look at that!" Katsu smirked, dodging his shots, "This porcupine is shooting spikes!"
This only angered the boy, who let his entire body prickle up like the name he was called.
"Okay you quirkless boy!" The bully hissed, "You still tough n up?"
Katsu grinned, "I sure as cuss ain't scared of you!"
Before the two could launch at each other again, Katsu and the Bully were grabbed by a pair of strong hands and pulled away.
"FIGHTING IS NOT TOLERATED ON SCHOOL GROUNDS!" The rhino like teacher yelled at Katsu.
"Oh come on! We weren't fighting! Right little guy?" Katsu turned to the bully, with a smug smirk on his face.
"LET ME AT HIM! LET ME AT HIM!"
Katsu smirked as he was dragged off, "Hey be sure to let me know when you're tall enough to ride the rides! SHORTY!"
"ENOUGH!" The Rhino teacher responded, dragging him to the principals office, "We are calling you're parents..."
Katsu grinned.
"Finally..."
Kazumasa sighed, looking at the mirror to see his master's son, pouting in the back of the car.
His job was never easy, but he wouldn't have it either way. As an old ex soldier, work was hard to find in Japan, and serving as a butler to a wealthy CEO of Muteki Technologies came like an angel above. He had no idea the trouble he was getting into with this family and their antics.
"Katsu..."
"What?" Katsu muttered, glaring at the window as the cars passed by. "What do you want me to say?"
Kazumasa sighed "This is the third time this month you've been sent to the office on the account of fighting. This has to stop, son."
"Don't call me son!" Katsu pouted.
Kazumasa gave a warm smile, "I know why you are starting these fights...this isn't the first time you've tried."
"But it IS the first time I didn't strike first!" Katsu shrugged.
Kazumasa sighed, "Students said that you insulted the kids mother. Does that not sound like starting a fight to you?"
"Well what was I supposed to do?" Katsu sighed, "I had to get his attention! And theirs..."
He almost didn't hear that last part.
Almost.
Kazumasa sighed, "Kat-"
"They usually send Paul to come fetch me when I act up," Katsu smirked, "I'm glad this time it was you."
Paul. Tasai's personal caretaker. Todd always thought Paul was a bit more lax and lazy to be a caregiver to a special needs kid, but Paul had the Muteki's trust. After all, he did graduate from Harvard at a young age.
"Just because they don't pick you up from school personally, does not mean they don't love you."
Katsu shrugged, "But Akira and Johnny get picked up by their parents!"
"Well, YOUR parents are busy running the house, and making sure Tasai knows how to behave."
Katsu mumbled something softer, that way his butler couldn't hear him.
"So...Why did you insult Johnny's mother?"
Katsu fumbled, "He was bullying Akira. Calling her names."
"So you called his mother a whore?! That's not proper language to be yelled from a ten year old."
"Maybe if Mom and Dad were around to educate me, I wouldn't say it."
"Well, I am here to educate you," Kazumasa said with a warm but firm smile, "So watch your language."
Katsu huffed, and folded his arms.
Kazumasa nodded, and went back to the topic, "So why did you insult his mother?"
"He started it when he insulted HER mother!" Katsu yelled.
Kazumasa nodded, "Now we are getting somewhere..."
"What did he do that insulted her mother?"
"I...I can't say..." Katsu muttered, regretting his decision to defend himself. "It's...not my buisness!"
"Katsu..." he said in a warning tone.
Katsu sighed and bit his lip.
"He saw her mother working by the brothels...in...less then ideal clothing."
Oh.
Kazumasa slowly nodded in approval, "You were defending her."
Katsu nodded.
"And were the teachers doing anything up until you pushed him?"
Katsu shook his head.
"Well, I'd say that is a good excuse to start a fight," Kazumasa responded, turning left into their long driveway, "But the school does not seen to think so."
"I don't care," Katsu mumbled.
"Either way, you've been put on out of school suspension. This will go on your record Katsu. Your father won't be proud."
Katsu sighed, "Yeah. But I have a good excuse for that too."
"Oh?" Kazumasa raised brow, "Is that you are half Cuban and not FULLY Japanese? Because your brother is the same and he has never been suspended."
"That you know of," Katsu mumbled.
"And I was born and raised in the downtown district, and I never got suspended."
Katsu pouted again, "Well...I don't have an excuse anymore."
"Son, try and take your academics more seriously. Tasai's grades are never slipping, and he's always getting these scholarships. Don't you want that?"
Katsu sighed, "The last thing I want is to be like him."
"Well maybe you should!" Kazumasa said in a raised voice, "I'm serious! Behave more in school. Or else I'll take away your PlayStation."
"You wouldn't dare!" Katsu shouted in an overdramatic tone.
Kazumasa raised a brow and smirked, "Oh I dare..."
He put the car in park, and turned to face the young kid.
He was ten years old, with short brown hair. His brown eyes were slightly wider then his fathers, his mother's genes in him, and while he gained his father's face, he had his mothers short nose and hair color, and small freckles.
"What, Kazumasa?" Katsu mumbled.
"I want you to talk to your parents themselves..." Kazumasa explained, "Explain yourself, and maybe they will offer some counseling. And after that, I'll make you some fish and chips. How does that sound?"
Katsu nodded slowly, "Okay..."
"-and Void industries is STILL coming up with new inventions that blow us out of the water!" Toshi Muteki adjusted his tie, as he ranted on a rival business, "How is it that my company is second place in a two man race? Do they invent flying cars? Do they manufacture the most Teslas? Do they have-"
"Honey...you're gonna be late," Layla warmly said.
Toshi sighed, "Yes, yes, but I-"
"Dad?"
Toshi and Layla looked to the open door of their bedroom, seeing their youngest son. Toshi sighed, "What is it Katsu?"
Katsu faltered, "I...I want to talk about tod-"
"Yes, we are aware of what happened, the school called," Toshi sternly said, "We'll talk when I get back, I have a press conference right now."
Katsu slowly nodded, seemingly used to the excuse. "Okay..."
As Toshi waked past his son, not sparing him a second glance, he was bombarded by another Muteki son.
"DAAAD!" Tasai whined, "There is a wasp nest outside! It almost stung me!"
Like the flip of a switch, Toshi's demeanor changed to warm and welcoming to his son, "Oh that's a problem isn't it? Don't worry, I'll get the wasp killer and take care of it now for you. How does that sound."
Tasai's eyes lit up like a Christmas tree, and nodded, "YES PLEASE!"
"Then let's go get it shall we?" Toshi grinned at his son.
Katsu tightened his fists.
"So you can help get a wasp nest, but not talk to your OTHER son?" Katsu mumbled.
Toshi glared at him, "Katsu, now is not the time for your moods. Go to your room and stay there until I get back!"
Katsu huffed like an angry buffalo, and stormed off, hands in his pockets.
Kazumasa watched from across the hall, and sighed to himself.
What else did he expect to happen?
As he walked down the hall, silver platter in hand as he passed his employer.
"Kazu, what are you doing?" Toshi asked.
The butler shrugged, "I was delivering young master his dinner."
"No. No dinner," Toshi shook his head, "He has to learn that acting up in school has consequences for his future. This is one of them."
"Sir," Kazumasa started, "When Tasai acts up, he is given dinner AND desert?"
"Tasai...is special, okay?" Toshi rubbed his forehead, "Catch more flies with honey then vinegar, yes?"
The older man softly glared, enough to make him seem serious, "Why not honey up Katsu?"
"DAAD, the wasp nest!" Tasai called from ahead of him.
Toshi nodded, and hollered back, "I'll be right there, son! No dinner, got it?"
"Yes sir," Kazumasa sighed as his employer left.
Once Toshi Muteki was out of sight, he continued to Katsu's room, dinner plate still in hand.
He passed Layla and gave a slight bow..."Mrs. Muteki."
Layla gave him a curt nod, and Todd continued down the hallway.
He knocked with his free hand on the brown mahogany door.
"Young master?"
Silence.
"Katsu?"
The door opened, and there was Katsu Muteki, rubbing his eyes. "What?"
The Butler gave a small smile.
"I brought dinner. Yellow rice, pork, and garbanzo beans. You're mothers favorite."
Katsu smelled the food, "It's not Japanese?"
"Does that matter? Foreign Foods are pretty good."
Katsu took the plate in his hands.
"Huh...smells good."
Kazumasa smiled, "Just make sure you brush your teeth after. Your father commanded you go without dinner."
Katsu had a devilish smile.
"Yes sir."
Behold. I promised an origin story, so here I give.
Enjoy.
