Yuuri, despite his calm appearance, could feel his heartbeat all throughout his body. He had never seen anyone flirt with Wolfram before. Beyond that, he had never felt jealous before either, especially not with Wolfram. He had immediately been self conscious, he didn't even think before he had grabbed the blonde.
Fortunately for him, now that he was behind his desk with Luft before him, he had plenty to distract him. Gunter and Conrart were seated as well, but Gwendal was absent. Wolfram, though present, didn't seem all there at the moment. Another surge of anxiety went through Yuuri at the glance that he got from the blonde. His emerald eyes were hazy, he had the barest curl of a smile on his face. When their eyes met he turned his head away quickly. Wolfram's cheeks were almost as bright as his fire magic.
Yuuri was thankful that Yozak had finally arrived. Having been sent to gather any intel that he could, Yuuri hoped that between the spy and Luft he would have what he needed to stop these assassins. Luft smirked and looked Yozak over as he entered. Yuuri didn't know if the mercenary was sizing him up or checking him out.
"What did you find out?" Conrad asked Yozak first.
"We ended up killing one of them on the rooftops, but the rest escaped." He said. "From what we can tell, they very well may understand the city better than some of the guards." Luft huffed in amusement, leaning back in his chair.
"Most of them grew up on the streets here, but some were from the farmlands, myself included." The wind demon said. "I've already given Von Christ the locations of all the safehouses they have in the city."
"Which I wanted to ask you about." Gunter said, hand pressed together on the table. "Would any of these be trapped, or even be ambushes?" The scholar's eyes narrowed, locked with Luft's blue ones. "Are you here to help, or are you just bait?" Luft's eyes burned for a moment, the faintest breeze seemed to blow.
"I'm here because I am opposed to Wolfgang's current path, and because I have respect for what this king has done for the country." His voice was low, and dangerous. "I don't appreciate what you imply. Do you realize that in being here I am opposed to men that I called my brother's in arms?" His fists clenched. "The other leader, Wolfgang, I've known him for years, since childhood, practically all my life." His eyes burned into Gunter. "I assure you, this is the hardest thing I've ever done, and if you think I'll betray you, then lock me up, but I promise that the only thing that you'd have done will have been putting an ally in jail." He took a shaky breath, before sitting back down. "So, what will you do?"
"Yozak and myself will lead the sting." Conrad said, standing up. "We will be more than prepared for anything that comes our way." Yozak smirked and gave his friend a thumbs up.
"Have you discovered anything else, Yozak?" Yuuri asked, legs fidgeting. Fortunately for him, no one could see them from where he sat behind the desk.
"Nothing that he can't tell you." The spy reported. "I found out he was the only magic user they have, but I guess with him here you don't need me." He mockingly pouted
"Save your attitude for the field, Yozak." Conrad said, despite the smirk on his face. The two stood and left, leaving Gunter, Luft, and Wolfram. The fire in the wind demon's eyes had died down a bit, but he obviously wasn't in a great mood now.
"Luft, would it be possible for you to have a look at our defenses to help prepare us for what this group is capable of?" Yuuri suggested. Luft smirked and shrugged.
"I suppose its the least I can do at this point in time." He said, standing up. Gunter looked like he wanted to protest, but remained silent.
"If you'll give us a moment, Gunter will be along as your escort in a moment." The king continued. Luft nodded and strode out the door. As soon as it close Gunter's mouth open to argue, but Yuuri silenced him with a raised hand.
"I want you to keep an eye on him." Said the double black. "I'm not sure we can trust him, but if we can then this will only serve to help." The scholar thought for a moment, then bowed and left. Yuuri sighed and sank into his chair. Now it was just him and….well, maybe this wasn't the relief he thought he would get. Now he was back to thinking about what had just happened in town. Wolfram's eyes met his, that distant emerald gaze becoming sharp again.
"Yuuri." He began.
"Don't." Yuuri sighed, putting a hand over his eyes.
"I must be in big trouble if I need a wimp like you to protect me." The blonde continued. Yuuri felt fingers guide his hand away from his face. He looked up and watched Wolfram press those soft lips to his knuckles. The king blushed hard. "Thank you." Wolfram said, letting go and smiling so radiantly that Yuuri could imagine cats coming to nap in that warmth. Yuuri groaned and clenched his fists, pressing his forehead against the desk. "Yuuri?" The blonde sounded concerned. Something inside of the king boiled over. He shot to his feet so fast his chair fell over, palms pressed hard to the desk.
"Why do you have to be so damn perfect!?" Yuuri growled, surprising both of them. "Why does this have to be so hard!?"
"Yuuri, I'm sorry if that was too much." There was worry in the blonde's voice, deep in his gaze.
"It's not you." Yuuri said, his voice lowering, but his fist slammed into the desk. "There's something wrong with me. I enjoy this stuff, but I feel sick every time I start to…" Yuuri let out a scream of frustration, clearing the desk of all its contents with an angry motion of his arm. The Blonde was watching with an unreadable expression. "Right when I'm trying to figure things out we have to get attacked by assassins. Then some demon starts flirting with you." Wolfram put his hand over Yuuri's but the king pulled it away. "Don't...I don't deserve it." He said softly.
"And why not?" There was the attitude that Yuuri had come to know. While it was welcome, Yuuri still wasn't quite himself.
"Because I can't even tell you how much I love you without feeling like there's something wrong with me!" Yuuri shouted. Guards had burst in right as he had. Wolfram looked shocked, his cheeks pink. Yuuri was sure that shock was reflected in his own expression. Tears of happiness were forming in the blonde's eyes, but all Yuuri felt like doing was punching himself in the gut for feeling so uncomfortable with the fact that he would do anything to see Wolfram look that happy again.
Before he could say anything else he felt a pain in his head. Both hands tangled into his hair and he cried out. He could hear glass shattering and a lot of thumbing, right before he blacked out.
