This story was originally based on HavocHound's "Show No Fear, Show Them A Smile." But after reading it I was like, "Yeah...Hell no. I have to redo this...or that ending's gonna leave me forever unhappy." (Little did I know it would take off for me so well.)

New Reader A/N: This is for readers that are just finding and reading this story now. I actually published "Injustice" months ago. But when re-reading it, I decided that there were some things that had to be re-done because I either found them stupid/cheesy or they messed with the future storylines. Plus, it's a pretty damn good excuse to get this thing back on top of the list. I accidentally republished the old version by accident so I was laughing the other day when a guest by the name of chasethenewpup reviewed this telling me how good it was, and to that i just wanna say thanks.

Old Reader A/N: You've read this before. But I needed to shake things up since lately I'm finding myself kinda down for reasons I don't know why. I'm just gonna do what every human on the planet is doing and blame it on the pandemic. A shout-out goes to the first person who can tell me in the reviews what I changed. And no Kittypaw, I didn't add Ryder, I'm sorry.

Lol, enjoy!

Time seemed to stop as the room felt like it was spinning. Everything blurred out as Rocky sat on the floor of his cell, thinking about how the hell he ended up in this situation. Every memory proceeding up to this moment was fogged and unclear.

Him standing over a dead body… police sirens getting louder in the distance…the courtroom filled with people…the judges' loud words and then...nothing.

He knew for a fact that whatever happened next, he was here. And he wasn't going to ever see the outside of these walls again...at least...until tomorrow. Tomorrow, when he was going to be put to death.

The clicking of keys in his cell door startled him, then a familiar face popped in. "Hey Chase.." Rocky greeted him quietly. "Hey Rock." Chase replied quietly in a sad voice. An extremely small smile escaped Rocky's grim expression as he knew that was the nickname Chase had given him when they first became friends all those years ago.

Rocky's mind briefly flashed back to when they first met. Rocky had been in junior high at the time. He had trouble with bullies who were always trying to make his life miserable. This occasion took place in gym class behind the bleachers.

"C'mon Jen-Seong, give us the money and there won't be trouble...well, not much anyway." Threatened the main bully in a threatening tone, while slowly walking towards him as his gang closed in a circle around him.

"Screw you! It's my damn money!" Rocky snarled, even though in back of his mind he knew he was about to get lumped since they were backing him into a wall. (Don't ask me how the gym teacher didn't see this...but then again, what do you want for 8 bucks an hour?)

"Wrong answer chopstick…" the bully lowly said as he raised his hand to break Rocky's mussel. The gang pulled Rocky's arms apart so that he couldn't block his face or dash away. He was about to swing his hand and Rocky closed his eyes, waiting for impact. Suddenly, there was a loud "THWACK!"

Rocky clenched, and waited to feel the crushing pain as his nose snapped. But nothing happened...must be delayed pain, wait that doesn't exist… So what's going on? Rocky opened his eyes slowly to see the main bully looking somewhat stunned, as he turned around to look at a red dodge ball on the floor that had just struck him. He then looked up and saw a German Shepard about as old as them.

"Really Colby? Picking on a scrawny kid? That's pretty damn weak. But then again…look at you." The Shepard scoffed. "Oh wait, you're that new kid cop on the island. Can they really not find anyone that can actually do the job? Or at least someone who's balls have dropped?" The main bully chuckled as his gang began laughing hysterically.

They were expecting to get angry and charge, but something completely different happened. To their utter surprise, the Shepard started laughing. "Good one. I've gotta remember to use that some day." This actually annoyed the main bully. "Listen, If you wanna be a pretend cop, then go play in traffic for all I care. But walk away now, this is our business. Now screw off."

"Can't do that." The Shepard replied defiantly.

"Alright…you wanna get your ass kicked. Then I guess I can pencil you in about…now." The bully said as he charged head first at the Shepard.

He ran right up to him and swung at his face. But with lightning speed, the Shepard ducked and threw a right bomb to his stomach.

The bully groaned as his facial expression completely changed and he tipped forward. The Shepard shot up and uppercutted him with his left hand and then shot his right hand at his face, immediately sending the bully to the floor. Out cold.

The Shepard then stepped on his stomach with one foot and said, "Who's next?" The gang looked at him and then their disgraced leader and continued to switch their looks at both of them. The one that seemed to be the second in command simply said. "Yeah…no" As he walked by his disgraced former leader.

He then stopped and spoke to the Shepard. "You." The Shepard looked at him in the eye and replied back sharply, clearly anticipating further violence. "What?" "If this chump gets up again while you're still here, Let him know we're gonna have a serious chat with him..". The Shepard understood exactly what he was saying and simply nodded in silent agreement.

The second in command made a signal and the rest of the gang followed him as they left the gym and their humiliated excuse for a leader on the floor.

The Shepard watched as they walked out, he then went over to Rocky and picked him up. "Hey you alright?" He asked, "Uh yeah, thanks. Here I owe you something." Rocky pulled out his wallet and offered him a 50 dollar bill. The Shepard looked at the money and refused, "I didn't do it for that." Rocky looked confused, "You didn't…? Everyone's always after me for my damn cash. Bullies, Girls, Mercenaries...even some gay guys." Rocky said, as he shuddered at the thought.

"Naw, I'm no mercenary...or gay guy." The Shepard said as he chuckled, they both laughed. "By the way, what's your name?" Asked Rocky, "The name's Chase Delgado." he replied. "Rocky Jen-Seong." Rocky said as he extended his hand, and they shook hands. "It's funny, you're named Rocky, and yet I'm the boxer."

This slightly bothered Rocky, "You know, I'm not helpless. I could've kicked their asses any time." Chase smirked "I believe you, but then, why didn't you?" Rocky frowned, "Well, I'm American by citizenship and mindset, but by culture I'm actually Japanese and we still have strong culture and all that even though it's the 21st century. So I try to avoid violence at all costs. Or it'll bring shame to my parents or something like that."

Chase raised an eyebrow as he tried to be understanding of Rocky's culture. "Alright…that makes sense. But…would you rather have shame…or a broken mussel? I mean I get the whole avoiding violence thing, but don't be anyone's punching bag either. Defend yourself. There's no problem with that."

Rocky looked at him, "Your right." Chase smiled, and took him under his arm. "I know I am." He laughed. They walked out of the gym laughing and smiling, marking the beginning of a long friendship.

Rocky remembered this memory fondly, he then looked up at his friend dressed in his blue uniform and holding his hat in his hands. His friend looked at him with a soft smile, it was unconvincing though, as they both knew it was shielding his real emotions.

"How are you holding up?" Chase asked with genuine concern in his voice. "I'm uh…*sigh* depressed beyond all means, actually." He said, almost humorously, but he wasn't kidding.

Chase couldn't do anything but stand there and nod. He felt so helpless. He had been in the courtroom when the judge sentenced him. And there wasn't a single, solitary, goddamned thing he could do about it. His hands were tied and it made him feel desperate. Like his insides were tight to the point where he felt he could barely breathe.

Rocky picked up on this and knew what was bothering him. So he wanted to take his mind off of him. "So, how are things between you and Everest?" He asked randomly. The question seemed to startle him.

"We umm...I don't know what you mean…" Chase stuttered. Rocky silently laughed, because he knew Chase as always poised, tough and confident. But if you ever wanted to make him nervous, mention Everest. "I mean, how's your relationship? Are you two spending time? Or are you gonna let this one go too?" Rocky said as he frowned.

Chase knew exactly what he was talking about. "Dude, don't bring that up. Skye and I just weren't right for each other. You know that." Rocky nodded. "Granted. But you can't let Everest go...you two are perfect for each other." "So your Doctor Matchmaker now?" Chase answered sarcastically.

Rocky became visibly aggravated and then verbally showed it. "Goddamn it Chase! I'm not joking with you! Don't waste relationships so carelessly and recklessly you goddamn workaholic! You don't know the opportunity that you have...because you're not about to lose everything important to you… Maybe I would still have a life to look forward to if I hadn't listened to your dumbass advice!" He snapped, but then his face softened as he instantly regretted his words. The last thing he wanted was Chase thinking he was blaming him for his death. He wouldn't wish that amount of guilt on an enemy.

He looked up from the floor at Chase who looked like he wanted to sink through the floor. "Dude, I'm sorry, that's not what I meant...not at all." Chase looked unbelieving, but mustered up a smile and simply said. "I know buddy, it's okay." But Rocky looked at his friend's sorrowful expression. And he knew it was from something different, something deeper…

"There's something bothering you, isn't there? Well, besides the elephant in the room...or cell." He caringly inquired. Chase stared at the floor trying to find the words to answer. "Yeah...I need a favor, probably the most important I've ever asked from you." Rocky shrugged and said, "Yeah man, anything. S'long as it doesn't involve anything outside of these walls."

"Rocky, I- *breathes* need your forgiveness…" Chase said sorrowfully. Rocky raised an eyebrow in confusion. "For what?" Chase visibly struggled to reveal the torturous answer haunting him. "Tomorrow, at your execution...based on the Judge's order, you're to be publicly shot...and they ordered me to carry it out." Chase forced out, his expression slowly changing to anger.

Rocky looked concerned, then with a small smile, he got up and placed his hand on Chase's shoulder, "Nah man, you're doing me the favor."

Chase looked very confused. "H-how?" Rocky answered back, "If I do have to go tomorrow, I'd rather it be by the hands of one of my friends. Not some random cop." "So yes, I do forgive you. I forgive you for all eternity, and I don't want you to feel guilty for the rest of your life. You hear me? I want you to carry out your mission, and leave it all behind knowing that you didn't hurt me, you saved me...from the hands of someone I don't know."

Chase looked at Rocky, and saw the fire in his eyes. He knew that Rocky was serious about this...but it didn't help, it didn't make Chase feel any better.

"Now Chase...could you do me a favor…?" Chase wiped the mix of sadness and anger off of his face as he listened. "Of course. Anything, and I mean that." Rocky looked at him thoughtfully and said, "Can you bring the team by? I want to see them one last time...especially Tundra."

Chase put on his hat and said, "I'll have them all here within the hour." He said with determination, knowing that he wasn't going to allow anyone to deny his friend's last request. And he kept true to his word, 53 minutes later, all the pups were at Rocky's cell to support and comfort him. Rocky talked with every single one of them and cried with all of them, but the most emotional was with Tundra.

"Hey Beautiful." Rocky said in a tired voice, his face stained with dry tear marks. "Hello my love." She said weakly, obviously fighting tears, she ran to him and wrapped her arms around him, and his around her. They hugged long and hard, so tight that you couldn't crowbar them apart. They then kissed, but this was a different kiss then all of their previous ones.

This one was not of physical attraction, or a "see ya later" peck, this was of sadness and desperation, not even a "goodbye" kiss. This was "The Goodbye" kiss, the last one they would ever share. And so they cherished it, and yet they were tearing as they were together, holding on tight to one another, never wanting to let go.

Chase stood outside the cell, his head wrapped up in endless thoughts and worries. Everest was aware of his orders and was worried about his mental sanity. She walked up to him and pecked him on the cheek. Chase turned his attention and looked at her wanting to greet her with a smile. But there was no possible happiness that he could muster up from the deepest depths of his soul, not even artificial. His brown eyes met her icy blue eyes and his chest sunk as he let out a depressed breath. "Are you okay?" She asked softly.

"No…" Chase whispered as he stared at the floor. Everest put her arms out and grabbed his torso to softly bring him into a hug. They embraced softly as they rested their heads on each other's shoulders. "Everything's going to be okay." She whispered. Her soft spoken, gentle words made him almost want to cry, but he couldn't, he never did. It was fine if everyone else did, but he found it to be a weakness on his part. And his life had never allowed for any sign of weakness, no matter how small or brief it may have been.

Instead, he answered in a different way than she thought he would. "Will it really be though? Because life without one of my small group of friends sounds horrible." He said as he let go of her with a look of sadness in his eyes. Everest didn't know how to answer him because honestly, that's exactly how she felt.

Eventually, they all had to part since visiting hours were over. After everyone left, Chase went by Rocky's cell to lock it for the night. He saw Rocky sitting up on his cot when he looked over at him. "Can you come here for a sec?" Chase quickly said "Sure." As he walked over to him and stood in front of him. "Need anything?" He asked. Rocky looked at him and nodded. "Yes. I need you to promise me something...I can't leave this world in peace until you swear to me something."

Chase knew this was serious and instantly agreed before he even heard what the promise was.

"Chase. I need you to swear to me that whatever happens...You take care of my Tundra."

Chase nodded as he placed his hands on Rocky's. "I swear. Nothing will happen to her or the team as long as I still breathe." Rocky smiled and simply said, "Good." And didn't say anything after that.

Chase got home after the rest. Everest was planning on trying to comfort him, but he went straight to his room without a word to anybody And remained there for almost an hour. Everyone sat in the lounge, depressed and in silence, not knowing what to do. Not that any of them could do anything about tomorrow's events. They suddenly heard footsteps, as Chase breezed by them. Everest stood up and asked, "Chase, it's almost 11:00, where are you going?" "I'm going for a drive…" he answered, coldly.

"But…" "Just let him go," said Skye to Everest, as Chase walked out. "As hard as this is on everybody, It's gotta be the worst for him...".
