As Morgan carefully pulled the door closed, he could hear heels clacking on the floor behind him. He turned to find Garcia, a worried expression on her face. "Rossi told me what happened. Well, not exactly what happened, but he said our little jellybean got upset."
Morgan smiled at her. "Our?"
She slapped his arm playfully. "Yes, our. Any baby of Derek Morgan is a baby of mine. Now where is he!"
He chuckled, glad that Garcia was there to lift his spirits a little. He pointed behind him at Hotch's office. "He's sleeping in there."
Gracia's hands flew to her mouth. "Oh, I was being so loud!" She whisper-yelled, before slapping his arm again. "Why didn't you tell me!"
"Okay ow! Stop hittin' me. Come on, let's go to my desk so we don't have to be quiet."
Garcia grumbled but followed him anyway. Once they got there, Morgan leaned against the desk, and the tech analyst stood in front of him, arms crossed. "Chocolate thunder, will you please tell me what's wrong with our baby boy!"
He put his hands up in surrender "He solved the unsub's code. But he didn't want me to know he was smart so he tried to… pleasure Strauss and Hotch." He said, grimacing.
Tears threatened to fall from Garcia's eyes. "Ohhhh my poor, sweet little baby boy. Is he okay now?!"
"Yeah" He sighed. "I think he's okay now. He was really scared that I was going to send him to a new abuser..."
"Oh that poor baby!"
They both looked towards the office door for a few minutes, just contemplating the boy's actions. Suddenly, Garcia asked "What're you going to do when you have to come back to work permanently?"
He was slightly taken back by this. He hadn't thought about it much. "I… I don't know. I mean, he can't come to work with me… But I don't want to leave him with someone I don't trust."
"Hmm… Well I would offer, but I'm going to be working too. What about your mom? She's retired isn't she?"
Morgan's face paled and his mouth opened slightly. "Morgan..." Garcia started. "You told your mom about Spencer, right?" He didn't respond. "Derek Morgan! I can't believe you didn't tell your mom about her first and only grandchild!"
He sputtered for a moment. "I-It's been crazy! I've been busy! I didn't-"
"No excuse!" She said, interrupting him. She grabbed his phone off the table and held it out to him. "Call her. Now."
He took the phone from her. "Okay, okay. I'll call her."
He dialled the number and held it up to his ear. "Hi, this is Fran Morgan. I can't come to the phone right now. Please leave a message."
"Hey ma, it's Derek. I need to talk to you about something really important. Call me back as soon as you can. Bye."
He hung up the phone and placed it back on his desk. "She didn't pick up. I'll talk to her later I guess."
Garcia scoffed at him. "God, I can't believe you forgot to tell your mother that she became a grandmother!"
He rubbed the back of his head guiltily. "Yeah, not my best moment..."
Before Garcia could respond, they both heard a door opening. They spun around to see Spencer poking his head out from Hotch's office, one little fist rubbing his eye, clearly having just woken up.
He tiredly looked around the bullpen, before his eyes landed on his father. He quickly made his way over to the two adults, stumbling slightly in his haste.
As he got closer to Morgan, he opened his arms for a hug, but then thought better of it. He stopped in front of his dad, wrapping his previously open arms around himself. "C-can I have a h-hug?"
Morgan smiled warmly at his son, before scooping him up in a hug. Spencer flinched at first, probably expecting to be hit for the question, but quickly relaxed into the embrace. He cuddled into his dad's chest and whispered "Are you sure you're not mad?"
He kissed the child on the top of his fluffy hazelnut hair. "No baby. I'm not mad at all. There's nothing for me to be mad about."
Spencer looked as if he disagreed but he simply nodded. Morgan continued. "I'm actually so happy that you're smart. And you helped us solve a case! You're practically a special agent already!" Spencer giggled. "And I think we should get you enrolled in school so that you could learn even more."
Spencer looked up at his dad with wide eyes and an open mouth. "I-I get to go to school?"
"Yeah, but we'll have to get you tested because you are definitely smarter than a 1st grader. But don't worry, even if you have an IQ of 3000, I won't be mad and you will still be a good boy."
Spencer shook his head. "A 3000 IQ's not possible. The highest IQ score ever was between 250 and 300. Though the average IQ is 100 and a person is considered a 'genius' with a score of 140 or higher."
Morgan chuckled at his son's correction. "Okay, I'll love you even if you have an IQ of 300."
Spencer nodded before whispering "And I stay with you?"
"Yes little man. You will stay with me." The boy nodded again before resting his head back on his dad's chest. "Baby, can you tell me why you felt you needed to pleasure Hotch and Strauss?"
Spencer just shrugged and mumbled "So they wouldn't tell you. I thought you'd be mad..."
"No, I understand that. But why did you want to pleasure them?"
"'Cause that's what I did to the Man to get stuff… I had to suck his thingy for water and food so I thought it would work with Aaron too," Morgan went to respond, but Spencer kept talking. "I didn't know how to make feel good. She's a woman so she doesn't have a thingy. The Man used to play with women's boobies in the basement so I thought that would make her feel good. I don't think it worked."
Morgan closed his eyes for a moment to calm himself. "Spencer, you shouldn't touch anyone sexually, just like they shouldn't touch you. No more making people 'feel good'."
"Oh. Okay daddy..." The child whispered. "I'm sorry..."
Morgan hugged him, Spencer hugging back with a bruising grip. "There's nothing to be sorry for. You didn't know."
"Oh god, I can't get over how adorable you two are together!" Garcia squealed from behind them.
Clearly having forgotten that the bubbly woman was with them, Spencer yelped and Morgan glared playfully at her. She at least had the decency to look guilty. "Sorry… I ruined a moment didn't I?"
Morgan smiled and shook his head. "You are crazy, woman."
She flipped her hair in an exaggerated manner. "And you love me for it."
He chuckled. "That I do." He deposited Spencer in his desk chair, who let out a whine but released his hold nonetheless. Morgan grabbed the small drink from earlier and held it out to Spencer. "Hey bud, Emily got you a treat. It's a hot chocolate."
Spencer tentatively reached out for the cup, looking between the two adults nervously. When he didn't drink any, Morgan added "Go ahead, it's been here for a bit so it shouldn't be too hot."
The boy looked at the drink and licked his lips, but shook his head. "No, I shouldn't..."
"Why not my little jellybean?" Garcia asked.
Spencer's face scrunched up a bit. "I was bad..."
Morgan sighed again. God, it was going to be hard changing this mindset that Hobbs beat into him. "No, bud. You were not bad. You were actually very good. I know you didn't want to tell anyone because you thought you would get in trouble. So why did you tell Strauss and Hotch?"
The boy squirmed in his seat. "'C-cause those people would die if I didn't..."
"Exactly. So you were willing to get in trouble to help save people. That makes you a very good boy in my book. Okay?" Spencer hesitantly nodded. "So that hot chocolate is a treat for being a good boy and helping all of those people."
Spencer's worried look turned into a small smile. "Are you sure?"
Morgan ruffled his hair. "Yeah buddy."
The child's smile grew even more as he took a sip. "Mmmm!" His eyes closed as he savored the drink. He started bouncing in his seat. "It's yummy!"
Garcia cooed and Morgan chuckled. "I'm glad you like it pretty boy."
They sat and talked for a while longer, Spencer drinking his hot chocolate, until the rest of the team returned.
When they walked through the doors, dragging their feet, they looked exhausted. Spencer offered a wave to the group, and they all seemed to perk up at that.
When they got to Derek's desk, Spencer smiled up at the dark haired female. "Thank you for the hot chocolate Emily. It was really good!"
"I thought you would like it, little man." She said, ruffling his hair.
He beamed up at her before turning to Hotch, his smile faltering. "I'm sorry I tried to suck your thingy. Daddy says no more making people feel good."
Hotch bent down till he was eye level with the boy. "It's okay Spencer. But he's right, you shouldn't do that. You shouldn't touch anyone and no one should touch you."
Spencer nodded. "Where's Mrs. Strauss? I wanna say sorry to her too."
"I think she's still in the briefing room." Morgan said.
With that, everyone made their way to the briefing room, to find Strauss sat at her laptop, simply staring ahead, clearly lost in thought.
Spencer wiggled in his father's arms to be let down after being carried to the room, before approaching the older woman. "I'm sorry I tried to make you feel good " He said, wringing his hands together anxiously.
She turned to him with surprise, not having heard the group enter the room. "Oh, I forgive you sweetheart. Are you okay now?"
Spencer nodded enthusiastically. "Uh huh! Daddy's not mad like my old dad."
She smiled warmly at him. "I'm glad to hear that."
The child turned to Hotch. "Did you save the people?"
"Yeah we did Spencer. Thanks to you we were able to stop the bad guy before any of them got hurt."
Spencer smiled brightly at this. "I helped save them like you saved me?"
Everyone's smiles fell for a split second. "Yeah baby, just like how we saved you." Morgan said sadly.
"Wow…" Spencer whispered, amazement evident in his voice. After a few moments he asked "Is the bad guy in jail now?"
Hotch hesitated for a second, not sure whether to lie or not, as the unsub had committed suicide before they could apprehend him. "...yes. He's in jail."
Spencer furrowed his brow, studying the agent in front of him. "...You're lying!" He ran behind Morgan and wrapped his arms around the man's legs. "Is he gonna come get me for helping save the people?!"
Hotch was stunned for a moment before hurriedly keeling down to correct his mistake. "No, Spencer, no one's going to hurt you. You're right, he's not in jail, but he can't hurt anyone anymore. Okay?"
The boy peaked out from behind his father's legs. "Did he kill himself?" He asked quietly.
Everyone in the room was surprised by the blunt and unfortunately accurate question. "I- why would you think that?" Hotch asked, unsure what to do.
"'Cause in his note he said no one was smarter than him… but I'm only little and I solved his code… a-and I assume you told him it was me to try to get him to surrender." He paused for a moment to take a breath. "But that would just make him upset… so he either killed himself or you had to kill him 'cause he was gonna hurt one of those people he took."
No one responded for a solid minute. They stared, slack jawed, at the boy, amazed that he was able to figure that out. Spencer fidgeted nervously under their gaze, worried that he did something wrong.
It was Emily who broke the silence. "Leave it to Morgan to find a profiling four year old..."
"Oh my god!" Garcia squealed. "Not only is he a genius, but he can profile too!" She turned to Strauss. "Can the FBI hire toddlers? Is that allowed? Because we literally didn't need anyone other than him to solve this entire case!"
Strauss was still staring at Spencer. "Um, no Garcia. We can't hire him. But that was quite impressive..."
They all went back to looking at Spencer, who was still fidgeting. He held up 5 fingers. "I'm five..." He whispered.
Morgan ran a comforting hand down his back. "She knows bud. She was just joking."
The boy nodded, but still feeling self conscious under their gazes, he buried his face into the back of his dad's legs.
Morgan scooped him up and positioned the child on his hip. "Okay, I think it's about time I take Spencer home."
The rest of the group nodded in agreement, and Strauss moved to stand in front of the two of them. "Bye Spencer. It was nice to meet you."
Spencer gave her a small wave. "Bye ."
Morgan and Spencer said their goodbyes to the rest of the team before they made their way out of the BAU and home.
