Eventually the day came where their new house was ready. The team had packed up all of the remaining items to be moved in, which was mostly just clothes from Rossi's, as the rest had already been moved by the team beforehand. Spencer was sat in the back of Morgan's car bouncing with excitement as they drove to the house.
When they arrived, the little boy pushed his face up to the window for a better look. It was a large white house, not as large as Rossi's mansion, but still a decent size. Morgan got Spencer out of the car and led him up the stone path to the front door. He opened the door and allowed Spencer to walk in. "What do you think so far buddy?"
"Wow..." Spencer's eyes were bouncing around the entrance, not sure what exactly to look at first.
They made their way further into the house, exploring each room. It was mostly the same furniture from Morgan's last house, but there were a few new pieces. The house had a large open concept setup. The kitchen was huge, the living room was also large and had a grand fireplace. Each room made Spencer's smile grow larger and larger.
Morgan showed Spencer the guest room, his room, and they finally stopped in front of Spencer's closed door. It had a plaque hung on it with the boy's name, clearly decorated by Garcia. "Ready to see your room baby?" Morgan asked.
The child enthusiastically nodded his head. Morgan pushed the door open and Spencer's jaw dropped. The room was decently large, with dark navy blue walls and dark brown wooden furniture. There was a new bed in the corner (shorter than the old one so that he could get in himself), a large dresser, a desk, and a bookcase.
What amazed Spencer the most though, was that the room was themed around space. The blanket on the bed had a galaxy pattern, there was a moon lamp on the wall, and various other space themed items scattered around the room.
As Spencer explored the room in amazed silence, Morgan looked on with tears in his eyes, overjoyed that Spencer was so happy. He quickly wiped at his eyes before moving over to the light switch. "Hey pretty boy, watch this..."
He turned off the lights, but the room did not fall into darkness as the boy feared it would. Spencer looked up to the ceiling to see it covered in glowing stars, which gave the room a soft green tint. "Wow..." he breathed, unable to form any different words to explain his amazement.
Morgan chuckled at his reaction. "I know, it's pretty cool. Now you don't have to be scared of the dark at night." Spencer smiled and nodded enthusiastically.
"Okay bud, I've got one more surprise."
Spencer spun to look at him in shock. "There's more?!"
Morgan held his hand out to him, which the boy took without hesitation. "Yes, there's more."
He led the child over to a small door. When he opened it, rather than seeing some sort of room like expected, there was simply a set of stairs. Spencer looked at his father with confusion. "Go on..." Morgan said, giving him a little push to move.
They climbed the steps together, but Spencer stopped dead in his tracks when he saw the room. It was a large attic with slanted walls, and lining those walls were custom built bookcases, empty except for one shelf. There was a large table in the middle of the room and a few soft chairs around it and around the rest of the room. There was also a giant circular stained glass window, which Spencer had spotted from the outside on his way in, and underneath it, was a comfortable looking window seat.
"So this is going to be your library. You can read up here under the window, and you can draw and do future homework at the table. I put in all of your books but we're going to have to get more to fill up all these shelves."
Spencer started tearing up. "For me?" he whispered.
Morgan pulled him in for a one arm hug. "Yeah buddy. All for you."
A large smile spread across the boy's face before he started exploring the room. He eventually made his way over to the window seat. He jumped up and put his little hands to the large window. "Daddy! Daddy! Everyone's here!" He exclaimed, pointing through the window at the cars pulling into the driveway.
Morgan chuckled at his excitement. "I know bud. I told them to come over to celebrate. Let's go meet them."
The two made their way down to the driveway, where the entire team along with Will, Henry, and Jack were waiting. "Hey guys!" Morgan greeted. "Let's head around to the backyard. Pretty boy still hasn't seen that part yet."
The entire group walked around the house to the backyard, where a large playset was set up. It had a slide, swings, a rock wall, monkey bars, and more. "Woah! Daddy can I play on that?!"
"Yes baby you can play on it. It's yours okay?"
Spencer squeaked, actually squeaked, in excitement before turning to the other two boys. "Jack! Henry! Do ya wanna play with me?" He asked, pointing to the playset.
Both boys enthusiastically agreed, before all three of them took off towards the set.
The rest of the adults retreated back to a large porch at the back of the house, where they sat and talked.
"I really can't thank you guys enough for everything you've done for us." Morgan said, voice full of emotion.
"It really was no trouble, Morgan." JJ responded. "I'm just glad that you and Spencer are happy."
"We had so much fun doing it too!" Garcia piped up. "We had a girls night with wine and cheese and strawberries and painted like the entire house in one go! Oh, and Spencer's room is the cutest little thing ever! The stars are so pretty!"
Morgan chuckled. "The stars were a really nice touch. Who thought of those anyway? They're perfect for him since he hates the dark."
To Morgan's surprise, his stoic unit chief took the credit. "I thought that Spencer might need some sort of light at night. After... what happened with the Reaper... Jack was terrified of monsters in the dark, so I got him those stars. I assumed it might be the same case with Spencer."
Morgan clapped him on the shoulder, squeezing gently. "Thanks man, both Spencer and I really appreciate it."
"Ahh and I have another surprise for tomorrow!" Garcia squealed.
Morgan raised an eyebrow. "What is it, babygirl?"
"I can't tell you!" She sang. "It's for you and Spencer tomorrow morning."
Morgan looked skeptical, but shrugged and let it go. Suddenly Spencer ran up to the group, slightly out of breath. "Daddy! Can you help me on the monkey bars?"
The group all looked over to the playset where Jack was quickly moving across the bars, and Henry was impatiently waiting his turn. "Sure bud."
They made their way over, and by the time they got there, Henry was finishing up his turn. Spencer climbed up the ladder, and turned to his dad. "Don't let me fall please."
"Don't worry baby. I've got you." He allowed Spencer to do most of the work, only holding him up lightly. Spencer quickly made his way across the bars, struggling slightly near the end but still making it all the way. He climbed down and started jumping up and down in joy.
"I did it daddy! I did it!" Spencer squealed with joy.
Morgan chuckled and ruffled his hair. "Great job buddy. I knew you could do it."
Spencer beamed up at him and turned to the two other boys. "Jack! Henry! Did you see me!"
"Yeah! Good job Spencer!" Henry exclaimed, raising his hand for a high five.
Spencer flinched back, expecting a hit from the raised hand. Henry froze, and dropped his hand, not understanding why his friend reacted the way he did. He looked up to his Uncle Derek. "Does Spencer not like high fives?"
Morgan quickly went to rub a reassuring hand on his son's back, who began to relax. "I don't think he knew you were trying to give him a high five." He responded.
"I thought you were gonna hit me." Spencer spoke up simply, now realizing he wasn't in danger of being hurt.
Henry looked devastated. "Why would I hit you? I'm not a bully."
Spencer just shrugged. "I don't know."
Henry looked close to tears at this point, upset that his new friend would think he was capable of hitting someone. Morgan saw this and quickly spoke up. "Henry, he was with a very bad man for a very long time. It's a conditioned response at this point." When the little blond boy gave him a look of confusion, he elaborated. "He was hit so much before, that now he expects it. Flinching is a natural and automatic reaction. He didn't actually think you would hit him."
Spencer nodded in agreement. "What's a high five?" He asked, curious as to what Henry was actually trying to do.
"It's something you do when you're excited or celebrating," Jack explained. "You hit your hand against someone else's hand. Like this!"
He held his hand up to Henry, who quickly high fived him. Spencer watched intently, excited to learn. Jack turned to him and carefully lifted his hand up to him. Spencer looked down at his hand, before bringing it up and gently tapping the older boy's hand. "Did I do it right?"
"Uh huh! You can hit harder though, it won't hurt." Henry responded.
Spencer nodded and high-fived Henry this time, a little bit harder than with Jack. "Good job Spencer!" Henry yelled.
Spencer smiled brightly at the praise, before turning to his dad. "Can I go again?" He asked, jumping up and down.
Hours later, after everyone else left, Morgan brought an exhausted Spencer into his room. "Do you want to sleep in here or do you want to sleep with me?" Morgan asked.
Spencer bit his lip in thought. "C-can I sleep in here? B-but if I have a nightmare can I sleep with you?"
Morgan kissed the top of his head. "Of course baby. You can always wake me if you are scared or need anything. I'm proud of you for trying to sleep on your own, but I won't be disappointed if you need to come to my room. Okay?"
Spencer nodded before climbing into his bed. When Morgan leaned down to hug the boy goodnight, Spencer gave him a kiss on the cheek and whispered, "Thank you daddy, for everything..."
Morgan started tearing up and hugged the boy tighter. "Of course baby. I love you so much."
When they let go of each other, Spencer had tear tracks on his face, but he looked incredibly happy. "I love you too daddy."
