"Malyshka, come here please!" Evelyn's mother called from the parlour.

Evelyn, who had been sewing with her cousin, Manya, stood from the table and made her way out of the crafting room. "Coming, Mama!" A smile plastered itself on her face. It was one, the usual time the post would arrive. She had gotten her mother to order her some gorgeous fabric. She would use it to make matching dresses for her and her cousins.

Evelyn's family lived in a large manor about ten miles north of the nearest town. It was secluded, quiet, just the way Evelyn loved it to be. While her cousins loved going into town, Evelyn would opt to stay home with her grandparents. She and her grandmother would sit in the sewing room for hours talking about their old home in Russia.

Evelyn loved to listen to her grandfather's and grandmother's stories of their family. It was always so amazing they had once been royalty. While they were still wealthy enough to not work, her father and two uncles would still get up every morning and head into town to manage their woodcutting business.

Sliding into the parlour by her socks, her eyes noticed the bundle of beautiful red velvet fabric, then she noticed the unknown man sitting on the sofa. He was wearing robes that were so very odd, Evelyn wondered where he came from.

"Hello," Evelyn said, a polite smile on her face.

The man stood up and held out his hand. "Hello, Evelyn. I am Professor Albus Dumbledore, Headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry."

Evelyn peaked around the man at her mother. Mama nodded her head, telling her daughter the man wasn't crazy.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Professor Dumbledore. But what does this have to do with me?"

Professor Dumbledore smiled. "You, my dear, are a witch." He reached inside his robes and pulled out an envelope.

Evelyn blinked in shock. Her hand shook as she grabbed the letter. It had her name, address, and the school name in emerald green ink. "I'm confused," she whispered.

"Malyshka, come here," Mama said, her arms held out.

Evelyn took a seat beside her mother, taking deep breaths. Mama wrapped her arm around her daughter. "Do you remember the times when you did something unexplainable, Evelyn?"

She nodded. In fact, she had done something the other day that had sent her into a spiral of fear. She had sobbed into her mother's shoulder for about an hour afterwards.

"Hogwarts is the school that will help you control it. Term starts in September. But it's your decision." Mama stroked Evelyn's hair back with gentle fingers.

Evelyn looked down at the envelope, tracing the letters. She was curious, and she wanted to get her powers under control. She looked up at Professor Dumbledore. "Where is it?"

"Scotland," he answered, eyes soft but bright.

Evelyn looked up at her mother. Mama smiled, but gave no sign if she wanted Evelyn to stay or go. It truly was her choice. Taking a deep breath, Evelyn made a choice that would change her life forever. Whether it was for the best, she did not know.

"I'll go."

A/N: Even though the Russian monarchy was abolished with the deaths of the royal family in 1918, the ancestors of the Romanovs are still technically royalty even though they don't really rule anything. I would also like to point out that this Romanov family is complete fiction. Evelyn is my OC, and so is most of her family except Olga, Evelyn's Great Grandmother, and eldest daughter of the last Tsar. I do not believe Olga had a child. And I don't know all that much about the family, so if something is not completely historically correct, know that I would appreciate any advice you have :-D Anyway, just wanted to say that so you guys know it's not true lol Hope y'all enjoy!
