Story Summary: NON CANNON Set after end of season. A woman and her ill father move in to the house next door to Jax. Carly's father grew up in Charming and wanted to come back to live out the last of his days. Carly needs support in a town where she knows no one. Jax is without his wife, his kids, and his mother. Is shared loneliness enough to build a relationship on for two people so different?

Set after end of series. NON CANNON. Jax has not died. Wendy and Nero are raising the boys in Mexico for their safety. Jax is still the president of SAMCRO.

Jax spent the following two nights in Carly's bed. He had just gotten used to it when she was told she could bring her father home. He had a feeling the fun was going to stop.

He waited till he saw the backyard light come on before heading over to her house. He gave Kenya the obligatory pat before making his way to Carly. He gave her a smile and took her face in both his hands, sinking into a deep kiss.

"Is he glad to be home?" Jax asked her.

"Yeah, I think so. Kenya's glad to have him back." She reached behind and opened the door to let the dog back inside.

He ran his hands down her arms. "I know things change now. But I was wondering, if you'd come over. I know you can't spend the night…but I'd like to spend some time with you."

Carly looked behind her back in the house. "I don't know. It doesn't feel right, leaving him."

"We could spend time together out here." Jax whispered in her ear, pushing her hair back.

Carly gave Jax a half smile. "It's not too cold?"

"You warm me up."

Carly chuckled. "Come on." She nodded to the picnic table and they both sat down on top of it. Carly pulled out a joint and lit it, passing it to Jax after her first inhale.

"You only smoke when he's home." Jax observed.

"Helps me sleep. Otherwise, I'm too anxious about him falling out of bed, or not breathing." Carly shrugged.

Jax nodded his head. He moved closer to Carly and wrapped an arm around her waist.

"Let's talk about you." Carly suggested. Jax observed she had been trying not to talk about her father for a few days now. Since he had spent the first night.

"Not much to say." He shrugged.

"Tell me about your club."

Jax chuckled. "What do you know about my club?" He had never worn his kutte to her house before.

"I know it's important enough to tattoo it on your back."

"Ah, right." He nodded his head and took the offered joint from her.

"My father started it. With some war buddies. I spent my whole life involved. You make life long friends, you know?"

"I don't, but go on."

"Brothers. You become family. You love each other, take care of each other. If one of my brothers needed something, I'd drop everything and come running."

"Mmm" Carly answered. "My real brother won't even do that."

"Blood doesn't make family. You make your own family."

"I can get behind that."

"You ever have anyone like that, someone that turned into family?"

"No. I was a loner, not one for close friends. I dated one guy. I had just dumped a guy who wasn't great to me. And this new guy, he swept me up, was my knight in shining armor. It was great, romantic. I could see making a life with him, a family"

"What happened?" Jax asked after she paused.

"I didn't need a knight anymore. I got past the old guy. Got my confidence back. Finished school, got a good enough job to support myself. He resented the fact that I didn't need him anymore. And I realized I never really wanted him. I needed him for a little bit, to lean on. But he isn't the type of guy I would have otherwise chosen."

"Was the breakup bad?"

"Yeah. I suppose, as standards go, it would be considered bad. But I moved on. Found a new loser who didn't understand the responsibility I felt to my dad. Break up there too. So, I guess, no, I've never successfully made a family either."

"You're young. You have plenty of time to find a family. It comes when you least expect it."

Carly nodded her head and she finished off the joint and put it out on the bottom of the table.

"I need to get him his meds and get him in bed." She stated, hoping off the table.

Jax got off with her and grabbed her waist. "Do that, then come over. An hour."

"Jax…"

"Half an hour."

Carly shook her head.

"Twenty minutes, and I can't go any lower than that without insulting myself."

Carly laughed and Jax grinned, taking the opportunity to kiss her. He ran his hands under her shirt, up her back, dragging his short fingernails over her sensitive skin. She shivered against him and moaned quietly.

"Come be with me." Jas whispered into her ear.

"Okay." Carly gave in. "Twenty minutes. I'll be over when I can get away."

He gave her one more kiss, promising of more to come, and walked away, back to his house. Carly walked inside shaking her head.

Carly came over, night after night, late in the evening after her father went to bed. She spent longer and longer each time, neither wanting to let the other go in the dark.

On this night in particular, Carly and Jax were laying on their sides, fingers intertwined. Whispering to each other. Jax leaned forward and kissed her, a long, slow, sensual kiss. He pulled his hand free of hers and ran it down her side. She arched towards him and he maneuvered on top of her.

He wanted nothing more than to sink into her again. Feel her under him, around him, listen to her moan, feel her breath on his neck. He latched on to her shoulder, kissing, nipping, licking. He was just about to slide his thumb onto her clit when someone started pounding on his front door.

Jax jumped up. He pulled a gun out of his nightstand drawer that had Carly's eyes go wide with shock.

"Stay here. Don't come out." He whispered to her.

He paused in the hall to pull his discarded jeans on. He peaked out the window and saw Chibs and Tig.

"What the hell?" He opened the door and demanded.

"We've been calling you brother; we got a problem in Stockton. Need to get there ASAP." Tig spoke. Chibs took a look around the house, seeing clothes, male and female, discarded in the hall.

"We're interrupting something…" He spoke with a smirk on his face.

"I didn't have my phone on me." Jax said simply. "Give me a minute." He closed the door in their faces, locking it for good measure.

He walked back into the bedroom. Carly was sitting on the edge of the bed, pulling on her panties.

"I gotta go." He leaned down and kissed the top of her head. "Lock up behind you."

"Yeah…sure." Carly said without looking at him.

Jax rushed back out of the room, putting on clothes until he made it back to the front door.

"Is this the dog girl?" Tig asked, as Jax closed the front door behind him.

"What's wrong in Stockton?" Jax ignored him.

Carly left the room as soon as she heard the bikes rev out of the driveway. She made her way through the house collecting her clothes. A gun. He pulled a gun out of his nightstand to open the damn front door.

What the hell was she doing? She didn't belong with a guy who pulled a gun out because someone knocked on his door. Who the hell was he expecting? Jesus. Who had she gotten involved with? How well did she really know him?

Motorcycle club president, mechanic, widower. A lie of omission, maybe? He certainly hadn't told her the whole truth about himself. He knew everything about her. Not that there was that much to know. He knew her parents were divorced, about her relationship with her brother, her ex's, what she did for work, all about her father's health. What did she really know about him? Apparently, nothing.

She got dressed in the living room and let herself out the front door, locking it behind her.

She slipped back into her own house quietly and checked on her father. She made her way to the bathroom and showered before changing into a fresh night shirt. She laid in bed thinking about him.

This relationship, if she could call it that, wasn't like her. They didn't go on dates. They didn't go out at all. They met up in the backyard and got high, they slept together. Outstanding sex. But that was it. Maybe she was just a good lay to him. Maybe he didn't feel the need to tell the truth to her.

She had really screwed up. Really and truly. She was letting the stress over her father's condition influence her too much. Since when did she go around having affairs. Is that what it was? It was sex. It was just sex. He was sweet, and asked about her dad, but at the end of the day, it was just sex.

Jax came home late in the morning to grab a shower and fresh clothes. He eye'd Carly's house. He felt bad about leaving her the way he had last night. He ran in and did what he had to do. When he came back out to his bike Carly was just pulling into the driveway.

He was about to head over there to apologize when he saw her father in the passenger seat. Carly went around to his side of the vehicle and opened the door for him. She carefully maneuvered him out and walked with him step by step, up to the house. He looked weak, like he could fall at any moment. Carly wasn't a big girl; he was surprised she could handle so much of his weight on her.

He started to come over to help them. He got within twenty feet of them when Carly caught his eye and shook her head no. She looked back over at her father and encouraged him to keep going. Jax was close enough to spot the small oxygen tank Carly was holding for her father. He had forgotten the old man needed oxygen. He thought of Piney. Piney had lived for a few years with oxygen, but he had never needed this much help to get into a building.

Jax waited till they were inside and sat on Carly's front porch. He wanted to talk to her. Needed to talk to her. He knew she would come back out; she hadn't carried a purse in with her, and the vehicle door was still open.

Carly came jogging out the front door and Jax stood up, surprising her.

"Sorry." Jax started. "I just…I was waiting for you."

Carly nodded her head and continued to walk to the driveway.

"What happened to him? Your dad. Is he okay?"

"Dialysis. Three times a week. It takes a lot out of him." She reached in the backseat and got her purse. She started to walk around the front to close the door.

"You do that with him three days a week? What about a wheelchair?"

"He doesn't want one. And I'd rather he stays walking as long as possible." She closed the door and opened the trunk, grabbing her father's walker out of it.

Jax ran a hand through his hair. "I ah, I wanted to apologize about last night. It was urgent."

"Yeah, I figured." She blew him off. She started walking back to the house.

"Carly, wait a minute." Jax grabbed her arm gently and turned her to face him. "Is something wrong?"

"No, I just need to check on him. He needs lunch, and to get hooked back up to the air compressor."

"Alright. Um, tonight, come over. I'll make it up to you."

"I don't think so, not tonight." Carly started to walk again and Jax let go of her arm. He walked alongside her.

"You're pissed." He said simply. He couldn't blame her. He left her hot and bothered in bed. Told her to lock up behind her. Not even to wait for him.

"No… I'm not mad. You just, you scared me last night." She admitted.

"What do you mean?" Jax stepped in front of her to look her in the eyes. "What did I do? Did I hurt you?"

"No. No, not that. It was…it was the gun. Someone knocked on your door and you grabbed a gun out of nowhere like it was a regular occurrence. Like the man at the door was there to kill you."

Jax sighed and ran a hand through his hair. "It was the middle of the night. I didn't know who it was." He tried to make excuses. "It was just my club. They had been trying to call me. My phone was in my pants."

"Yeah, I get it. It just, it surprised me. I didn't know the gun was there. It freaked me out seeing you grab it like that."

"You don't like guns?" Jax asked.

"No. It's ah… it's complicated. You don't need the details. They just… make me uncomfortable." Carly tried to side step him to get around him and he blocked her.

"I didn't know that. I won't keep it out. I promise."

"Okay." Carly nodded her head and tried to walk away again. This time Jax let her by.

"So, tonight?" He asked her back.

She didn't answer him as she closed the door.
