Irene has always had anger issues, she couldn't control herself around people that make her mad. When her anger comes out, she goes off. That's the case when she was 12, someone was bullying her, making fun of her pale skin, her many freckles across her face, and her father. Her father was a sore subject to her because she never knew her own father.
"You're such a weirdo, no wonder your own father left you," The Bully stated harshly.
That's when everything went red. She was on top of the bully and his face became bloodied and red. They had to get over five teachers to get her off of him. They would've arrested her for assault, but they toned it down. Instead, she got expelled.
Ever since things have been very weird for her. She couldn't go back to school, so she studied at home. Her mom and her mother, her grandma, have been talking in secret. They later confessed to their conversation on Irene's thirteenth birthday.
"Irene, we've been talking, we think you should go to a place that we had in mind for you, I went to this place when I was younger and it helped me. I can't go back there, it's been too long for me, but you can go." Minnie Wright says.
"I sent your mother to his place and it helped her and protected her, you need to go," Maureen Wright says.
Irene didn't want to argue, she felt too tired to get mad. She packed up all of her stuff. She got her presents from both her Mom and Grandma, one was a necklace with a red ruby and the other was a bow. Irene was driven to a Strawberry Farm and was told to just keep walking ahead, she hugged her Mom and Grandma before leaving the car and walking into the forest.
That's how Irene got into Camp Half-Blood, a home for demigods. She doesn't know who her godly parent is yet, but she has a theory that her godly parent is Apollo. She is really good with archery and has a knack for poems, but really dark poems.
Irene since she was unclaimed didn't have that many friends, she tried to make some, but they either were too arrogant or too self-absorbed to be friends with her. At lunch, she sat by herself. She didn't know anyone and she had been at Camp for a week. Tomorrow would be Capture the flag, not to mention that a God would be visiting Camp Half-Blood. This is rare for the demigods, so everyone was excited.
As Irene ate slowly, one demigod went over to her and sat next to her. She looked at the demigod. He had short black hair, a tank top covered in oil stains, jeans, and sneakers. He held a plate of food as well.
"Why are you over here?" Irene asked.
"I'm here to see what's up, you're sitting all by yourself," He says. "do you like to be alone?"
"I try to, but no I don't. I don't really have any friends in Camp."
"I can be your first friend then?"
Irene became unsure if she can trust this demigod or not, but when he stuck out his hand to her, she couldn't just leave him there. She shook his hand.
"Sure, I'm Irene Wright," She greeted.
"Bruce Williams Jr, Son of Hephaestus, I guess you're still unclaimed."
"I assume my godly parent is Apollo."
"How lucky, Apollo is the god that is visiting today. We don't know why he is visiting but we know that we really are excited, the only god here is Mr. D, and well he sucks, no one really likes him, I'm sorry, but it's true."
Irene laughed at his comment.
"I'm fourteen, I've been here for a while."
"You're only one year older than me."
"Do you know your way around camp?"
"I don't."
"Ok, let me show you around."
Bruce showed Irene around Camp, even to his forge in his cabin. The next day, Capture the flag was starting, Irene was on the side where the Hephaestus cabin is, so she can be next to Bruce. She had a lot of skills, but she was a lot faster and stronger than most demigods in Camp, she not only won and got the flag but she fought and knocked-out over ten demigods to do so. She felt as if she knew what they were going to do.
After winning Capture the flag, Apollo came to visit. He of course showed off how brilliant he was, but then he sensed someone, someone he hasn't felt in a long time. Apollo looked to Irene while she was eating next to Bruce. Apollo secretly told Irene to privately meet him near the Apollo cabin. Irene is scared but excited to meet her potential godly parent. Irene met Apollo from behind the Apollo cabin, his presence radiated sunshine.
"Lord Apollo," Irene says bowing. "Why have you called me here?"
"I think you know what this is about, it has been awhile since I saw a face of a Wright family." Apollo stated.
Irene smiled and got excited, "So it's true, you're my father, you were once with my mother Minnie Wright."
Apollo looked at her confused, "I'm sorry, I understand why you would think that, but I'm not your father."
A look of disappointment soon came on Irene's face.
"I'm your grandfather."
Irene looked at Apollo surprised,"How?"
"Irene, I had your mother with your grandmother, making you a legacy."
"That's why my mom says she has been here before, she is a demigod!"
"Yes, I watched over her for sometime until she got into adultage, but for some reason, she doesn't get attacked by monsters anymore. I don't remember the time between before your birth, but whatever happened, you are a really powerful demigod, but I don't even know who your godly parent is."
"Thanks anyway."
"Wait, Irene, I know I haven't been there for you, but I want to tell you something important, I came here to Camp Half-Blood because I sensed my legacy. I came here to find you."
Apollo summoned a golden bow and gave it to Irene, "This is a gift for being my legacy, I might be busy all the time, but try to call me if you need advice or information. Good luck Irene."
After Apollo left after an hour, Irene really liked her new golden bow, but the assumption of her new gift made everyone think she is a Daughter of Apollo. But she cleared up the assumption and told everyone that she was actually a Granddaughter of Apollo. She was moved from the Hermes cabin to the Apollo cabin because of this relation.
While going to sleep, Irene had nightmares, of a deep darkness and many monsters in the world. She woke up with a sweat. She saw a symbol appear over her head. One of a dark deep pit, she didn't know what that meant. She went back to sleep.
The next day, Irene talked to Bruce about her dream and the symbol. Bruce looked at her afraid. After the talk, Bruce started to avoid Irene which not only made her feel alone but also mad. She cornered Bruce after lunch.
"Why are you avoiding me?! I thought you said you were my friend, but it turns out you're just like them all!" Irene yells.
"I'm sorry!" Bruce yelled back. He placed both of his hands on her shoulders to try and calm her down. "It's just that I know who your godly parent is."
Irene let go of Bruce in shock, " Who is it? Tell me!"
"Tartarus."
As Bruce said his name the world around seems to turn dark.
"Who is that?"
"Ruler over monsters, a realm where the beings who defy the gods go to, it's like a prison for gods."
"Why were you scared of me then?"
"Because, you're the first demi-primordial, you're not even part of the godly parenthood, I don't even know how you were born."
"Are you scared of me now?"
"I was, but I shouldn't be."
Irene calmed down and looked at Bruce surprised, "Why? This Tartarus guy, he sounds evil, shouldn't that make me evil?"
"You're angry yes, but evil? No, you aren't. I will stay as your friend Irene, and even if the whole Camp is against you, I'll stay by your side."
Irene blushed after hearing that, "T-thanks...let's go to archery."
It didn't take long before people started to realize Irene had been claimed. But when they realized that it was the Primordial Tartarus, they easily thought she was evil or there as a spy for her father. She couldn't even stay in the Apollo cabin. Irene never felt more alone than ever, but the one thing that kept her from going crazy, Bruce. He still stuck by her side after everyone in Camp went against her.
As Irene did her sword training alone, she heard a yell come from outside of camp. She ran to the danger and saw two demigods from the Apollo cabin being attacked. Irene swooped in to help them. She swung her sword at the two hellhounds, but they seemed different. When Irene came into their sights, they seemed to stop attacking, they actually seemed to yield to her.
"My lady…" One of the Hellhounds says.
Irene heard one of the Hellhounds talking, is that like some kind of power she has? She turns to the Apollo demigods and tells them to go back to Camp. She looks at the two Hellhounds.
"Where did you come from?" She asks.
"We came from your father, he claimed you while you were in a nightmare, he sent us to serve you," The Hellhound says.
"I don't know what to do with you, but I have some commands for you, don't attack any demigod here, and hide in the shadows, I'll call you when I need you."
"We understand my Lady, we will follow you, make sure you're protected."
The Hellhounds disappeared into the shadows.
When Irene came back into Camp, people cheered for her, they thought she handled the Hellhounds well. People started to place her in a different light.
Near the end of the summer, Irene told Bruce about her new power.
"I wonder what other powers that I will soon have? I hope that Grandpa Apollo won't stop talking to me after my claiming." Irene says to Bruce as she packs up.
"You'll do great, it's always about what you're going to do, not what your father is going to do." Bruce says.
"Have you ever met your father?"
"I haven't, but he did give me a book of invention ideas."
"I hope you meet him, but I don't know about my dad."
"Don't worry about it. You'll be here next summer right?"
"I will, I just need to do some studying at home before I come back here. I will figure my place in this world and in this Camp. I wonder if we can get a quest."
Irene finished packing and shook Bruce's hand.
"When you get back, I'll make sure that there is a Tartarus cabin just for you, fully built and all to yourself."
"Thanks Bruce, I'll see you next summer."
Irene shook Bruce's hand as she left the Apollo cabin. As she looked back at the Camp, she smiled.
