Chapter 1: Snow Day

It was a cold, snowy day in Adventure Bay. The roads were closed due to the snow and it was too cold for the mayor or her chicken to go outside. This gave the Paw Patrol some time to themselves. While Ryder was inside doing maintenance around the Lookout, the pups were having a competition outside. A snowman building contest to be precise. The teams were Rocky and Zuma against Rubble and Marshall while Skye was judging. Besides Everest who was helping Jake at the ski lodge, only one pup was missing. The police pup of the team, Chase. He was using his free time to finish filing a case report for the ABPD about a chain of murders around Adventure Bay and Foggy Bottom. As the pups got older they began helping out more around town. Chase worked part time at the police department, Marshall worked part time at the local fire department, Rocky helped out at the dump, occasionally taking recyclables to use in his own inventions, Zuma helped out with maintenance on Captain Turbot's ship, Rubble helped the local construction company, and Skye helped out at an airport just outside of Adventure Bay.

"And finished," said Rocky, proud of him and Zuma's work.

"Looks gweat. I think we did a good job dude" said Zuma fist bumping his friend.

"How are Rubble and Marshall doing?" asked Rocky looking over at the other team.

"There I think we're done," said Marshall, putting the carrot nose on the snowman.

"Looks good, but not as good as ours" challenged Rocky.

"Oh yeah well Skye will be the judge of that" Marshall shot back.

Skye then walked over examining both snowmen taking into account every little detail. Once she was finished she stood before the two groups.

"After close examination I believe that it's a tie"

"A TIE!?" shouted both teams in disbelief.

"What do you mean a tie? There isn't any other defining features that could separate either snowman from the other?" complained Rocky.

"Nope. They're both just too good to choose one over the other"

"Welp, I guess a tie is okay," said Zuma.

"OH, I know just what to add to break the tie" said Marshall walking back to his team's snowman.

"Marshall watch out for the ice!" yelled Rubble.

It was too late as Marshall had already stepped onto the ice and slipped into their snowman, destroying it instantly.

"I guess Rocky and Zuma win," said Skye.

Marshall then popped his head out of the snow pile he was in.

"What a tiebreaker" said Marshall as they all laughed.

"Hey is it just me or is anyone else getting really cold?" said Rubble.

"I am," said Marshall raising his paw.

"Obviously you are" giggled Skye, "but yeah it is getting cold. Lets head back inside"

The pups then helped Marshall out of the snow pile and headed back inside.

As they walked into the living room they were greeted by Ryder.

"Hey pups, have fun?"

"Yeah, we had a snowman building contest" said Skye

"And we won after Marshall accidentally knocked over his and Rubbles snowman," said Rocky laughing at the recent event.

"Yeah, I didn't see the ice. Sorry Rubble," said Marshall slightly blushing from embarrassment.

"It's okay, we can have another contest tomorrow and we'll win for sure" said Rubble filled with confidence.

"Yeah/Definitely" said the pups.

"Anyone want any hot chocolate?" asked Ryder already knowing the answer.

"Yes please!" said the pups excitedly.

Ryder laughed at their response.

"Okay I'll go put some on"

"Thanks Ryder" said the pups as they walked over to the tv to watch a movie.

"Hey Marshall before you go can you do me a quick favor"

Marshall turned back after hearing his name and trotted over.

"Sure, what's up?"

"Can you go check on Chase? He's been in his room for hours"

"Can do Ryder," said Marshall as he turned away walking over to Chase's room.

Chase was reading up on case files from a recent case. A local politician was found dead in his home, a single blade wound in his chest. When the detectives were called, no evidence was found of anyone else in his home. Nothing was moved, nothing broken, nothing unusual. It was as if a ghost had floated through the walls. When the body was autopsied, there were no signs of struggle either. Whoever this was, they were a professional. Currently there are no known suspects, everyone who was in contact with him the day of his death had a viable alibi. That just made this whole case harder and even more strange.

The police pup was dragged out of his thoughts by his door opening.

"Hey Chase, Ryder wanted me to check on you. You okay?"

"Oh hey Marshall" said Chase turning towards his friend, "Yeah I'm fine. It's just this case has been bugging me"

"What's it about?" asked Marshall walking over.

"It's another murder. That politician that was on tv a few days ago. He was found dead in his apartment yesterday. Normally there would be a fingerprint, broken furniture, or even some sign of struggle, but there was nothing. It's like the murderer was a ghost"

"Geez, I see why you've been stuck in your room for so long. Maybe Rocky or Ryder can help. They're both pretty smart"

"No, I've asked both of them. Murder cases arent exactly their speciatly"

"Hmmm? Maybe Everest can help. I'm pretty sure she's good at tracking things. That could probably come in handy"

"MARSHALL! You're a genius" shouted Chase hugging the dalmatian.

"Yeah yeah I know" said Marshall with a goofy smile on his face.

Chase then let go of Marshall and went for the door.

"Chase, you do know that Jake and Everest have been in the arctic right"

"Oh yeah. Shoot. When do they come back?"

"I think Ryder said some time tomorrow"

"Perfect. That gives me enough time to…"

"Oh no you don't. You've been sitting in here for a whole day. You're coming with me. The others put on a movie and you need a break"

"But but"

"Come on. Ryder's making hot chocolate"

"Ok fine" said Chase following the dally out of the room.

Hello everybody. It's good to be back. I would've been back sooner but you know...school. Anyway I've been working on this story for the past few weeks. Unlike my other stories I planned this one out so the writing process is a bit smoother. As always let me know your thoughts so far. Chapter 2 should be out soon so look out for that.
