Another year you made a promise

At exactly 12:02 am the first ping sounded. Every former New Direction had made a promise that every year they would send one photo as they celebrated the new year. No one could place who started it, but it was a chance to check in with everyone even if they weren't usually in contact and hear everyones news.

Another chance to turn it all around

And do not save this for tomorrow

Santana and Brittany were first to send their photo, a selfie taken by Brittany who was sat at the edge of a hospital bed beside Santana who held a sleeping baby. Mirabelle Whitney LoPierce born at 11:48 just in time to make her ND New Year's spam debut. She captioned the photo, and no one could deny the new family looked happy. Mirabelle's eyes were half opened and Santana and Brittany were both beaming at the camera.

At Lima General hospital Santana beamed at her wife. "Is it sent?" She asked. Brittany nodded. "Good." Santana beamed. "They won't be able to top us, but let's find out what our favourite Lima losers have been doing."

Embrace the past and you can live for now

And I will give the world to you

The next photo was a picture of a beaming Marley and Jake stood under fireworks in the their back garden, Marley was showing off her ring finger which was home to a silver band with a small ruby in the middle. Mr and Mrs Puckerman to be... Jake had captioned the snap.

In Pennsylvania Marley and Jake stood on their front lawn hand in hand watching as their neightbour let off fireworks. Marley had been taken by total surprise when he'd gotten down on one knee and asked her to marry him, but saying yes had been a no brainer. It was the best way she could think of starting a new year.

Speak louder than the words before you

And give them meaning no one else has found

Artie and Kitty were next to share a photo. Kitty had shared a picture her, Artie and their dog Digby at the table. Her caption read New years soup .

In San Francisco Kitty and Artie shared highlights of their year as they ate Kitty's carrot soup. When they were younger they would go out partying every new year, but now they were older they preferred a quiet new year, and although neither of them would admit it out loud they hated the idea of leaving Digby on his own, without 0the excitable golden labrador their family didn't feel complete. As midnight struck they raised their soup bowls, dropped some treats on the ground for Digby and took their new year selfie.

The role we play is so important

Ryder was next with his photo. A picture of a tent placed in the middle of the woods. Camp life. Ryder worked with struggling kids, especially the ones who struggled to read and write. He'd opted to spend his new year at a camp where some of the kids he worked with who didn't get to go anywhere but home and school could explore the wilderness and participate in activities. New years eve had been hectic with a canoeing trip, where he'd ended up having to rescue two canoes on the verge of capsize, followed by a leaders race which the kids had clearly loved and they'd ended it with a camp fire. He was exhausted but he wasn't going to miss the new year photo share. As soon as it was sent he let himself collapse onto the camp bed. He'd see the rest in the morning.

We are the voices of the underground

For the first time Myron was excited to send his photo into the New Directions group. Finally. He captioned the snap in which he wore his black graduation gown and black graduation cap with a blue tassel.

Despite being bumped up a few grades to be able to join the New Directions, it had taken him forever to complete high school and whilst everyone else was getting married and engaged he was an eighteen year old beginning his collage degree. Now at twenty one he was officially an adult, with a college degree and he was finally able to graduate.

As the new years fireworks began he tossed his hat into the air.

And I will give the world to you

R

ory and Sugar were next with a photo of them beaming at the airport. We're travelling the world. Straight laced Rory had factually captioned the photo.

Once Rory had sent the photo Sugar gave her boyfriend a beam. "So Daddy says the jet can literally take us anywhere." She informed him.

"Can we just ask the pilot to surprise us?" Rory responded, he was loving seeing the world, deciding where to go next was not something he enjoyed. Sugar nodded and sent a message, before looking at the flight board.

"It's the New Year and we're sat in an airport." She chuckled.

"Well at least none of the other New Directions are copying us." Rory replied with a smile. Sugar beamed back at him, waiting to find out where her dad would send them.

Say everything you've always wanted

Unique sent the next picture, a selfie in which she beamed at the camera as she used her free hand to point at the theatre sign above her which read Unique! She captioned the photo the same thing.

She'd always known she was a star, but she'd never allowed herself to imagine that having her name in lights could be a reality. When she'd been offered the one women cabaret show she couldn't refuse and here she was three months later selling out nearly every night. She couldn't tell anyone yet, not even her glee friends but the new year would see her take her LA based show to Broadway in the spring and they were already in talks to make a West End transfer in the Fall. It was looking like a good year for Unique Adams.

Be not afraid of who you really are

Sam sent the next photo. My wife. He simply captioned the photo of Mercedes stood on a stage in the middle of Times Square. The photo had clearly been taken from the front row, where Sam was watching his wife perform.

In New York Mercedes turned to Sam with a grin, they were in the green room after Mercedes performance Sam sipping on champagne and Mercedes enjoying a wine cooler. "You know what I love about you?" Sam asked grinning at his wife.

"What?" She asked taking another sip.

"You're a Grammy award winner, you make more than most people earn in year in a weak, you're in a green room where you could have the most expensive drinks and snacks and you darling opt for four dollar wine coolers and fifty cent chocolate bars." She just shrugged as she continued to sip her wine cooler. "It's one of the many reasons I love you baby." He reminded her planting a peck on her cheek as he grabbed her hand.

'Cause in the end we have each other

Quinn shared the next photo. Watching Aunt Mercedes. She captioned the snap, which showed her husband Joe with their two year old twins Elias and Jonah asleep on his lap, he was laughing at his daughter Maryella who had her back to her camera, but her hands were on her hips and with her blonde hair clipped back she looked adorable.

"Mommy," In Lima Maryella Hart placed one hand on her hip as she looked at her mother. "I'm big. So I don't need sleep."

Quinn glanced at her husband, tempted to laugh. Their daughter was four going on fourteen. She had a wonderful personality, but she was constantly reminding her parents that she knew her mind and that they should stop speaking to her like a child. She took after her mom and her host of Godmothers, Santana, Brittany, Mercedes and Tina had taught her to act like a Diva.

"Well you can't stay up by yourself and Daddy and Mommy want to go to sleep so you'll have to go into your bedroom and turn the light off." Quinn informed her daughter.

"Fine." Maryella sighed. "But Daddy needs to read me my story." She informed her parents. "Because daddy isn't making me sleep."

"That's fine by me." Quinn commented, giving her daughters shoulder a pat as she walked towards the kitchen.

Joe lifted Maryella onto his hip and the two of them disappeared up the stairs as Quinn put a half empty wine bottle out of the children's reach, before switching the downstairs lights up and heading up the stairs with a smile on her face.

And that's at least one thing worth living for

Puck was the next person to post a picture. A picture of him with his arm around Lauren Zizes. We think the dating thing might work this time. He captioned it.

Two hours before midnight.

"Lauren Zizes?" She turned at the sound of the familiar voice. To see a familiar face. Noah Puckerman stood behind her. She hadn't seen him since high school. At least no in person.

"Noah." She greeted him, her voice guarded.

"No one calls me that anymore." He informed her. "How have you been?" He looked genuinely interested.

"Ah you know this and that."

"That's not an answer." He frowned.

"I'm great." She sighed. "Im spending New Years drinking alone in an overcrowded bar so I'm just great." She responded.

"I'm drinking alone too." Noah informed her. "New Year plan fell through and I couldn't stay home alone."

"Wanna drink together?" Lauren offered.

"Yeah." He beamed. "That would be nice."

And I will give the world to you

Kurt and Blaine were next, although it was early morning where they were. Blaine sent the photo of him, and Kurt with their daughter Lizzie asleep in her pram as they posed in Trafalgar square. We're Londoners now.

Blaine straightened his bow tie as Kurt was chatting to Lizzie as they watched Good Morning Britain sharing his opinions on the New Years Day news. "Blaine honey come sit down." Kurt called.

"Dada." Lizzie chipped in.

"Coming." Blaine called.

"Seriously Blaine, we have three hours until lunch with your castmate." Kurt called again. "Come and sit down with us."

Blaine appeared and flopped onto the bed. "Wait that's my face." He frowned, suddenly paying attention to the TV.

"So opening this Thursday is Home Lies directed by and staring up and coming star Blaine Anderson." The first host stated.

"And what's so special about this show?" The second host asked.

"Well you see Blaine Anderson is actually a big name across the pond on Broadway. He's starred in hit shows like Les Miserables, Wicked and Waitress and he even wrote the show Stages based on his time in a glee club. This play was written by British young writer Ceelie Smithson but we'll see Blaine Anderson direct and take on the role of Harris Whitaker in this ensemble show and it really is one to watch."

As the host continued with where the show was based and how to get tickets Blaine turned to Kurt. "I made." It he cheered, causing Lizzie to clap her hands together and Kurt to join in the cheering.

A million suns that shine upon me

Tina was next to send a photo. The Mike Chang Studio. She captioned the photo, which showed a newly repainted building with it's name across the front.

In Auckland, New Zealand, Mike stood in front of his new dance studio. They'd moved out to Auckland when Tina had gotten a role as the mysterious American on a New Zealand soap and they loved it there. They missed their family and friends in America but they were able to fly back at least twice a year and Mike's parents flew over to them twice a year. Mercedes and Sam had also visited whenever she was on tour and so they didn't feel totally cut off.

Going ahead with the dance studio had been a big decision. If they built Mike's dream studio in New Zealand it meant they were committing to staying there, but Tina had been offered a permanent role on the soap and they both enjoyed their new home so they'd decided to stay.

"Well baby, what do you think?" Tina asked her husband looking at the studio.

"I think it's perfect." He responded with a smile.

A million eyes you are the brightest blue

The next message came from Matt Rutherford who worked as lawyer. He still loved to dance, but he also loved law and his job meant he could raise his niece, Clara, after she'd lost her parents. The photo was of Clara reading over a law paper and Matt had simply captioned it. This new year I'm starting her young.

"Uncle Matt," He turned to smile at Clara, the eight year old seemed to be enjoying reading over his papers and it made him chuckle as she poured over them clearly failing to understand lots of the words. "can I be a lawyer?"

Matt smiled at her. "Of course you can Clara, you can be whatever you want."

Clara frowned at him. "No I can't. I can't just be a tiger or an elephant. That's a silly thing to say Uncle Matt." She frowned at him.

"Well Clara why don't you get through this year at school and then next new years eve you can tell me what you want to be." He told her with a smile.

"Deal." She agreed.

Unbeknown to her they'd been having the same conversation every new year since she came to live with him aged four, at first she'd wanted to be a fairy and then a hairdresser, then she wanted to be a soccer player and then a real housewife last year (he'd had to stop playdates at one of her friends houses when I found out she'd been watching that show at such a young age) with a smile he added lawyer to the list already excited to see what she said next year.

Let's tear the walls down that divide us

Madison was next to send a picture. A caption less beaming selfie.

In LA Madison put her phone down with a sigh. She nearly hadn't sent a photo. Everyone else was doing so well and here she was performing at a bar in a seedy part of the city, where she was sure there were illegal goings on and barely earning enough money to cover her rent. She knew she could reach out to the New Directions, Mercedes or Blaine would try and get her a job, Jane and her brother would let her live with them, she knew Skyler with all his wealth would send her money, she could go back to Lima like Rachel had or go to a different city.

She wasn't trapped, but she dreamed of being a singer and she dreamed of LA and even with the reality of having to sing songs she hated and live in a cramped massionaette fully aware that on the other side of down were the mansions and beautiful houses she could be in, she wasn't quite ready to give up on her dreams. Not yet.

And build a statue strong enough for two

Roderick was next with his photo. A picture of him on stage smiling. Like Madison he didn't bother with a caption. They all knew he was the star of an off Broadway musical.

Roderick was content. He didn't particularly have a life plan and stumbling into theatre had been a surprise but he found himself enjoying every moment he was on the stage and he was happily living role by role. He meeting new people, singing new song and performing for a different crowd every week. He was perfectly content.

I pass it back to you

Skyler was next to post a photo of him stood with a drink in hand and the LA skyline behind him. Party. He'd captioned the snap.

Skyler was the only wabler who'd considered himself enough of a New Direction to be in their group and he enjoyed seeing what everyone else was doing as much as he enjoyed using his father's money to live his dream LA lifestyle. He was happy enough and always happy to show off his riches, but he craved the stability he saw that some of the other New Directions had.

And I will wait for you

Jane sent the next photo. A selfie in which her and Mason held a pregnancy test with positive written on it. We have a secret... She captioned the message.

In Florida Jane restedher head on Mason's shoulder as he flicked through the channels. Neither of them had fancied going out for new year so they'd opted for a reality TV binge and junk food, but there was only so much reality TV Jane could take and so now they were looking for something funny before they hit the hay.

"This will do." Jane stated as they landed on a rerun of some comedy from the nineties whose name she couldn't quite remember.

"You good?" Mason asked her.

"Great." She said genuinely leaning over to grab a now cold mozzarella stick from a half eaten plate on their coffee table. "You?"

"Great." He mirrored her words with a smile.

'Cause I would give the world

Alistair and Spencer sent the final photo of the night a snap of them on a beach at sunset. Bahamas. Spencer captioned the post.

In the Bahamas Spencer and Alistar had fallen asleep not long after midnight. Exhausted from a busy day of sight seeing and wanting a full nights sleep before a day of travel.

And I would give the world

And I would give the world to you

Should we have sent a photo?" Rachel Berry asked her husband Jesse St James as she put her book down and looked at him.

"Nah they won't miss us. We'll send one in the morning." He responded.

"Sounds perfect." She yawned.

"Sleep?" He suggested.

"Sleep." She agreed.

This is the new year

A new beginning

You made a promise

You are the brightest

We are the voices
