So this one is slightly different a stand alone from part of an epilogue of something else I wrote, so it's a slightly different format, but I hope you enough it.
"Why won't she be quiet?" Blaine asked watching as his husband, Kurt, rocked their daughter.
"Are you having a bad day?" Kurt cooed. She was two months now and she'd gotten in a routine. Yes, she cried in the night, but never like this.
"I just want to sleep." Blaine was at his wittsend after what felt like hours of crying. He couldn't even place if had been an hour.
"Hey," Kurt tried to calm him. "if you stress she will," He warned. "and someone is already stressed enough." He changed his tone to a coo, as he rocked his daughter, wondering how something so cute could be causing such a racket. She was dressed in a present they'd received at their baby shower, a grey koala bear onesie that Kurt's father had brought back from a trip to Australia. She had looked so cute, when they'd but her down, hours ago, peacefully asleep.
"Okay," Blaine spoke in a calmer voice. "I've messaged every parent group going, Finn says try rocking them..."
"Tried that." Kurt responded instantly.
"Okay Santana, says this is why... wait no that's neither helpful or nice." He quickly stopped talking, Kurt shot him a desperate look. "Okay moving on," Blaine sighed. "Quinn says back patting..."
"We tried that." Kurt snapped, losing his cool a little, which made Lizzie cry louder.
"Okay," Blaine glanced at his phone. "Sugar says she used white noise on Marlowe."
"I left white noise on the speaker." Kurt pointed out, his voice calmer this time.
"Okay," Blaine nodded. "Britt says... wait nope it's advice from her cat. I'm not reading advice from a cat." He said frustrated, normally Kurt would have commented, but they were both exhausted. "Sam says singing." Blaine commented. "Have we tried singing?"
"No." Kurt was surprised at his own answer. "No." He repeated. "Don't know why we haven't, but no."
Blaine put his phone down. "Okay let's sing."
He opened his mouth. "I love you baby..." He began but she just cried harder. A lot harder.
"Don't think she liked that." Kurt was shouting over the crying now, if they weren't both so exhausted he'd be laughing at their daughters response to the song, but they were exhausted and it wasn't funny.
He racked his brain for a song, watching his husband desperately try and calm their baby. Then he realised Kurt had began to sing.
"The sun will come out
Tomorrow," Was he going mad or was she calming a little bit.
"Bet your bottom dollar
That tomorrow," Kurt continued on.
"There'll be sun," He sung, his voice getting a little higher, the cries were dying down.
"Just thinkin' about,
Tomorrow," Blaine took over, as Lizzie continued to calm. Kurt shot him a smile, before crossing the room with Lizzie and handing her over.
"Clears away the cobwebs," He rocked his daughter.
"And the sorrow,
"'Til there's none," He sang and Lizzie went from crying to looking up at him with her big green eyes.
"When I'm stuck with a day," They sang together.
"That's grey,
And lonely,
I just stick out my chin,
And grin,
And say,
Oh," They sung together enjoying the fact that Lizzie had calmed down so much, she was staring up at her father almost in awe.
"The sun will come out
Tomorrow," Kurt sang as Lizzie shut her eyes in Blaine's arms, clearly relaxing.
"But you gotta hang on
'Til tomorrow," Kurt continued as Lizzie opened her eyes again. She was fighting sleep. She was so close to sleep. They were so close to sleep.
"Come what may," Kurt continued.
"Tomorrow, tomorrow," They both sang together.
"I love you tomorrow,
You're always,
A day,
Away," They both sang as Lizzie's eyes fluttered opened and shut again, Kurt silently willed his daughter to fall asleep. She was almost there.
"The sun will come out,
Tomorrow," They both sang together.
"Bet your bottom dollar,
That tomorrow,
There will be sun," Kurt beamed at him and gave him a nod to take on the next verse, as Lizzie's eyes fluttered closed.
"Just thinkin' about
Tomorrow," He sang, still rocking his daughter, he couldn't risk stopping until he was sure she was asleep.
"Clears away the cobwebs,
And the sorrow,
'Til there's none," Her eyes fluttered open. They were so close to getting her to sleep. He was not giving up.
"When I'm stuck with a day," They both sang together.
"That's grey,
And lonely,
I just stick out my chin,
And grin,
And say,
Oh," They both sang.
"The sun will come out,
Tomorrow,
I love you,
Tomorrow,
You'll always,
A day,
Away," They continued to sing together.
"Tomorrow, tomorrow,
I love you,
Tomorrow,
You're always,
A day,
Away." She was finally asleep in his arms. Being as careful as possible he gently placed her in her crib. They had done it. Everyone would finally be able to have a few hours rest.
They crept out of the nursery careful not to wake they're daughter, and start another screaming match.
"Will this get easier?" Blaine asked the second the were out the nursery, as he rested his forehead against the wall.
"Eventually." Kurt told him with a small smile. "Eventually." He added more for him the Blaine. "Eventually."
