See the stone set in your eyes
See the thorn twist in your side
I'll wait for you
She kept her head down as she walked passed him in the hallway. It was just her luck ending up in the same apartment block as him. Even if they were now miles away from home.
"Quinn?" He'd noticed her. "Quinn Fabray?" He question. She looked up and made eye contact with him.
"Finn Hudson?" She pretended she had no idea he was living on the same floor as her.
"We should catch up." He suggested.
"I'm running late, but maybe later?" She suggested. He looked disappointed for a moment and then nodded. Feeling a little bad at her reluctance, she dug into her tote bag, finding a buisness card. "Here, my number changed and I really need to live now, but call my PA on that number and tell her Lucy gave it to you and she'll give you my personal number."
Finn beamed at her. "I'll do just that."
Sleight of hand and twist of fate
On a bed of nails, she makes me wait
And I wait without you
She couldn't believe she was sat in the apartment building's roof top bar waiting for Finn Hudson. She couldn't believe she'd put on a navy blouse and smart black trousers for this. She still cared about him deeply, of course she did - there was so much history between them, but she didn't expect to see him outside of a glee reunion.
She noticed him walk out onto the bar. his fashion sense hadn't changed, dark skinny jeans, a white T-Shirt and a checked flannel shirt over the top. His hair was still messily styled and she couldn't help but admire his freckles. She always had loved those freckles.
He saw her sat there with a beer in her hand and made his way over to her giving her a smile. "It's been a while." He stated.
"I got you that beer you like." She gestured to the brown bottle on the table.
"Thanks." He gave her a nervous smile.
"What are you doing here?" She asked and then winced when she realised just how harsh she sounded.
He gave her a small, still nervous looking smile. "I moved here last week actually. I work for a school not too far down the road now." He responded.
"In New York?" She asked with a frown.
"Would you think I was stupid if I admitted I wanted to be closer to Rachel?" He asked and she responded with a shake of her head. "She didn't want me to be closer and we're not on speaking terms, but I got a job here as a glee club director and it pays higher than any other job I've had." He explained, his whole face lighting up which made her smile. "I hear you're quite the event planner?" He smiled at her.
"I guess." She responded. "I have a firm, and we're popular at times."
He shot her a big smile. She'd missed that big warm smile. "I have a few kids with famous parents and I've heard so many rave about you're services. I didn't know you lived here though." He hastily added, kicking himself for admitting he knew she was in New York.
"Yeah well who would have thought?" She smiled.
With or without you
With or without you
"You look nice." Tina informed her as they had their weekly facetime, she'd just made her hair look as perfect as it could and applied some make up for her date.
"I have a date." Quinn responded with a lip bite. "With Finn Hudson."
Tina spat out the drink she had just taken a sip of and began choking so loudly that Mike rushed in. "Hi Mike." Quinn greeted him calmly. He gave her a confused look and then a wave as he patted Tina's back.
"Finn Hudson?" Tina finally repeated after a lot of back patting.
"Yeah." Quinn confirmed. "Finn Hudson."
Tina squealed clearly shocking Mike who visibly jumped. "That's so exciting." She beamed.
"Yeah well I'm not so sure." Quinn sighed.
Through the storm, we reach the shore
Meeting him again was a suprise, she wasn't sure whether she'd wanted to see him again, but then he'd sent her a message and she'd found herself saying yes. So here she was sat beaming in front of him, actually having a good time and at the end of the date she agreed to see him again. Surprising herself.
You give it all but I want more
Their next date he cooked her dinner. Hunters chicken, potatoes and veg and it was good. So good, and it felt like they'd never split up. She found herself loving the way his eyes lit up when he talked about his job and his glee club. She'd forgotten how comforting he felt. How familiar he was and how gentle and kind he could be. When he leaned in to kiss her, she kissed back. He felt like home.
And I'm waiting for you
When she'd had a bad day she'd found herself knocking on his door. "Quinn?" He'd beamed at her, but the second he took in her disheveled appearance his expression changed.
"I just really need a hug." She told him, and he instantly opened his arms.
With or without you
She stayed the night. Not in a romantic way, just so that she had company and she enjoyed every moment of having company.
With or without you, ah, ah
I can't live
And then she was around at his or he was at hers daily. They'd practically moved in together without making it official. And as she spoke to Tina she was beaming.
"I think I'm actually enjoying this relationship." Quinn admitted. "There's no agenda and no necessity to the relationship and I like that about it. I really like it. I love him Tina."
"What do you love?" She turned to see Finn behind her and shot him a smile. "Hey T." He waved at the girl on the screen.
"You." Tina answered for Quinn.
"Wow er we've never said that to each other." For a moment Finn looked awkward, but then his face broke into a smile. "I love you too Quinn." He beamed.
As they leant in for a kiss Tina clapped her hands together. "MIKE." She called. "MIKE!" On screen Mike appeared. "Look how cute they are." She informed him, pointing to Quinn and Finn, who looked like they were no longer aware of Tina on the other end of the laptop. When Finn began lifting Quinn's shirt, Mike and Tina hastily shut the laptop.
With or without you
They were officially living together now, but she'd kept her flat still. As storage. It had caused a fight.
"You're not committing." Finn had informed her when she'd refused to sell the flat. "It's like you don't trust us. It's like you don't trust me."
"It's just..."
"No." He stopped her. "I love you Quinn, but maybe tonight you should sleep in your own flat and we'll talk about this in the morning."
"Fine." She'd snapped.
"Fine." He'd repeated.
And you give yourself away
It wasn't fine. It wasn't fine at all. They continued to argue. She didn't want to sell her flat, but she could understand where he was coming from. She could. She just wished it was easier.
And you give yourself away
And you give
She listened as Tina gave her her honest opinion. "I love you Quinn, but you have the highest walls and it took me so long to break those down and become a close friend. I think he feels the same way. He wants to know you think this is it Quinn." She explained.
And you give
And you give yourself away
She'd thought about it and then she'd approached him two days later.
"Quinn I don't know what to say." He'd greeted her, not wanting to have the same argument.
"It's okay, I'm just looking for some neighbourly advice on the best realtor you know. I'm hoping to sell my flat." She added, watching his face light up. "You see i have this amazing boyfriend who wants to live with me and I've decided I want to be all in. So if he'll still have me I'll be selling it."
"I think he'd like that." Finn responded. "I think he'd really like that."
My hands are tied
Two months later she walked through Central Park with Tina, Mike and Finn were a few metres ahead, but well out of earshot.
"I think I'm pregnant." She admitted. "I'm pretty sure actually and I don't know how to tell Finn. After Beth and we've only been together again officially for four months. I only knew he was living here for six months." She added.
"Shit." Tina cursed.
Quinn nodded. Shit was about right.
My body bruised, she got me with
Nothing to win and
Nothing left to lose
She paced their apartment. This wasn't part of the plan. She'd already had one unplanned pregnancy cause choas in her life. She couldn't do it a second time. So she paced. Back and forth. Back and forth.
"Quinn?" She was vaguely aware of Finn's voice. "Quinn you're scaring me. Quinn." He repeated, finally get her attention. "What's happening Quinn I haven't seen you this worried since worries since you were expecting Beth." His eyes widened. "Wait you're not expecting are you?"
She bit her lip and nodded.
And you give yourself away
And you give yourself away
"Okay." He nodded slowly. "Okay." He sounded a little more confident, as he took in the news.
"Except it's not okay." She spoke out loud. "It's not okay." She repeated. "It's not."
And you give
And you give
And you give yourself away
It was becoming okay. They were both finding the whole thing strange, but they were finding it okay. They would be fine. She knew they would be fine.
With or without you
With or without you, oh
On a rainy New York Wednesday Quinn, Finn, Tina, Mike, Carole Hudson-Hummel, Burt Hummel, Kurt Hummel and Blaine Anderson, Judy Fabray, Mercedes and Sam Evans and Brittany and Santana Lopez-Pierce crowded into a small room in a registary office. Quinn was five months pregnant and two days earlier they'd decided they wanted to get married with no fuss and minimum guests. It was lovely. Quiet simplistic and lovely.
I can't live
With or without you
Oh, oh
Oh, oh
By the time she was six months pregnant they were celebrating their one year anniversary. They ordered pizza, put on a movie that couldn't set off her hormones and make her cry and replied to messages from their friends and family sending them love. Finn had brought her flowers and promised her a necklace with their babies name engraved when they met their son or daughter and she'd found him a new set of drumsticks with Mr Hudson engraved onto them.
Tina had done a big Instagram post with so many pictures of them from their school days, from Mike and Tina's visit, from their wedding and a photo from their wedding of the them stood outside the registary office with Quinn in her knee length white swing dress and Finn in his wedding tux, they were both cradling her bump making her pregnancy crystal clear. Quinn didn't mind the post at all, but she also didn't fail to notice that Rachel Berry had commented with a comment saying how upset she was with several crying emojis added to the end and for a moment she felt like Finn would leave her for his clearly upset ex girlfriend. And then she realised how ridiculous she was being, she was happy with Finn and Finn was happy with her.
With or without you
With or without you, oh
The day she reached her due date she was determined to get the baby out of her. She tried everything. The hot curry, the long walks, sex, and then she'd done it all over again. And still nothing. Finn knew she was frustrated and did all he could to make her comfortable and she appreciated it, she really did, but she also just wanted to be comfortable again with a baby in her arms.
I can't live
With or without you
"Quinn you're walking so fast." He shouted after her as she marched down the street as fast as a heavily pregnant women could.
"I just want the baby out." She stated, trying her best not to cry.
"I know..." Finn began before frowning as he caught up with her. "erm baby, did you pee yourself?"
"No obviously," She snapped, before looking down and seeing the wet patch at her crotch that Finn was referring to. "at least I don't think..." She was cut off by a sharp pain and she hissed as more water gushed from between her legs. She gasped and then looked at Finn. "I think my water just broke."
"Okay." Finn stated, before his eyes widened. "Okay!"
And as her husband went into panic mode and began to call anybody and everyone, she smiled softly. They could do this. She knew they could do this.
