Chapter 1
Diaval couldn't help but stare at the woman, who remained unaware of his presence. She was pretty, as the fairies had an ethereal beauty that couldn't be matched by many. Her hair flowed down past her shoulders in brown waves that looked light as honey. She was fair in skin, and because her eyes were closed, he could not see the color of her eyes. She wore a long white dress, that looked as if it were made of feathers and sheep's wool, gave her a unique presence. Except, the woman had no wings, as far as Diaval could tell.
He wasn't sure what to do or how the woman had gotten here. With Maleficent out patrolling the Moor's, it was up to him to decide. Not wanting to leave her there, he would pick her up and carry her out of the cave. Light in his hold, which surprised him. As he walked towards the entrance of the cave, he was met with the many questions of everyone outside.
Knotgrass couldn't contain her surprise and would let out a loud gasp. "A woman? How can this be?"
"It's not just a woman! Look, she has pointy ears! She's a fairy!" Thistlewit exclaimed. Her tiny hands would point at the woman in question.
"But why doesn't she have wings? She looks like she could be related to Maleficent!"
"Maybe she lost them, or was born without them!"
There were a lot of mutterings coming from the sizeable crowd. All discussed the emergence of this new fairy. Who was she? Where did she come from? How did she get trapped in the cave? All were good questions, but they were all asked at once. Which caused Diaval to feel overwhelmed and unsure of what to do. He wasn't a queen like Aurora or a natural leader like Maleficent, so he had little authority amongst everyone. However, he had to calm everyone down and he had to take the woman to the dark fae. They would know what to do.
"Alright.. excuse.. quiet!" He raised his voice, earning everyone's attention. "I don't know the answers to your questions, but I have to take care of our new guest. We will find out everything when she wakes up. So please, make some room and I'll see that she's looked after."
The crowd was rather surprised to hear Diaval raise his voice. However, they all parted for him to walk as they respected him enough. Shifting the woman in his hold, the raven man would walk away from the crowd. Towards, where the dark fae mainly gathered. He couldn't fly without magic to turn him back to a raven. This meant he had to walk through the Moors until he got there.
Luckily, the trek wasn't far, and he would walk through the trees, past the babbling brook, and over a clearing. This clearing was surrounded by the shelters, all made by the dark fae that came to live there recently. He went to the shelter Maleficent lived in, and would step inside.
"She's not just a woman. I found her in a cave on the southern side of the Moors. She's a fairy like you, and I need to speak to Maleficent. Could you find her for me?" He would look at Borra over his shoulder. The dark fae always had a bit of an attitude, something to which Diaval was still learning to get used to, but he knew he was harmless.
"I can do that, but I'm sticking around afterwards." Borra would turn around and would take off to the skies.
A sigh would escape Diaval's lips as the fairy left. He would turn back his attention to the woman, who mumbled in her sleep. The first noise he's heard from her. As time passed, color seemed to return to her face and she would slowly open her eyes. Revealing green eyes that widened at the sight of Diaval.
Sitting up straight, she would look around. Confused and a little panicked by being somewhere she didn't recognize. "Where am I?"
"Calm down, you're in the Moors." He would raise his hands to show that he wasn't a threat.
"The Moors? Oh, thank goodness.. I thought I was somewhere else." She sighs in relief, then would look at him curiously. "Who are you?"
"My name is Diaval. I serve Maleficent. Who are you?"
"Evanora. Who's Maleficent?"
Evanora looked up at him, confused. "Never heard of her and I've lived in the Moors my entire life."
Diaval blinked at her in surprise. She had lived here her entire life? Then why hasn't he seen her? And how did she not know who Maleficent was? The whole situation was a confusing mystery to him. The sounds of flapping wings could be heard and as they looked up at the entrance, Maleficent walked inside, with Borra behind her.
Maleficent looked at Evanora and then turned to Diaval. "Who is this?"
"Her name is Evanora, she says that she has lived here in the Moors her whole life." He would say to his mistress.
"I have lived here all my life and I have never seen her before."
The girl couldn't help but look at Maleficent, feeling a little intimidated by her gaze. However, she carried her own strength that would surprise them as she stood up. "You are a dark fae, yes? Well, I am a light fae that lives in the far north of the Moors in the mountains. I don't know how I got here, but I promise I mean you all no harm. If you will allow me to return home, no quarrels will start between my people and yours."
"Light fae?" Borra's eyes widened as his voice raised.
Raising a hand to silence him, Maleficent studied the girl for what seemed like an age. Her gaze would turn to Diaval. "Make sure she gets home safely."
Diaval would look between Evanora and Maleficent in even more confusion. Light fae? He never heard of them, but he sensed that Maleficent knew more than he did and would ask about it later. For now, he was to ensure that Evanora returned home safely.
With a bow of her head, Evanora would smile at Maleficent. "Thank you, I hope our paths will cross again on smoother terms."
Smoother terms? What on earth was she talking about?
