Chapter 2
Diaval walked with the light fae known as Evanora. For someone who had been asleep for who knows how long, she walked with a spring in her step as if she had just had a small nap. Evanora was looking around the Moor's with a bright smile as she had never seen this part of it before. Which made Diaval wonder what she meant about being on smoother terms with the dark fae. Also, why did it seem as if Maleficent looked at the girl in wonder? He would have to ask her about it later. It was all a confusing mess and he couldn't help but look at the fairy with curiosity in his eyes.
They had to travel on foot as Evanora didn't have wings. However, it didn't matter to her as she was used to walking around in the part of the Moor's she grew up in. Things weren't that different on this side, except for the few fae that lived there. Her long hair flowed down past her shoulders in waves, and she seemed to have a mischievous glint in her eyes. Something Diaval found intriguing.
"So Diaval, tell me about yourself." Evanora would say to pick up a conversation.
He was a little taken aback by the sudden question, as she had been rather silent for most of the trek. "Uh… what would you like to know?"
"Anything you wish to share. I'd like to find out some things about the person who found me."
"Well.." He would start, already feeling awkward as he didn't know what to say. "I know I may look human, but I'm actually a raven."
Evanora would turn to look at him. "Really? I've heard that some fae will turn animals into humans for various reasons. You're not forced to be this way, are you?"
"Oh, no! Maleficent saved me years ago, and I offered my services to repay her. I only am in my human form when I need to be. But I'm mostly a raven, so I can help monitor things in the Moor's."
"Do you like your job?"
"I'm grateful for it, it's given me a sense of purpose." He would answer honestly. Which was the truth. He was really grateful to Maleficent for everything.
The fairy would study him as he answers and would smile as she saw the truth in his voice. "Good, I'm glad and I envy you for finding your purpose."
She would walk towards a creek that was up ahead and would stare at it as there wasn't much of a path. Diaval would watch as she raised her hands to create stones to get across. He watched in amazement like he did with every fae, and every time was hit with a hint of envy. However, as he watched, he noticed Evanora seemed to sway a little.
"Are you okay?" Diaval asked with worry in his tone.
Turning to look at him, she would shake her head. "I'm fine, just my magic takes a toll on me."
"Is that normal?"
"Yes, but I'm okay. I just need to practice more often."
He wasn't sure if he should believe her, but he didn't know the girl and so it was hard to tell if she was lying. Evanora would find a spring in her step and would carry on with their journey. Skipping the stones without slipping into the water. Following behind her, Diaval was a little more careful with his step. Trying not to fall into the water. Once across, they would carry on with their journey. Heading towards a particular set of mountains in the distance.
"So what's the difference between light fae and dark fae?"
"You ever heard of beings known as angels?"
"Uh.. no I haven't."
Evanora would walk forward as she answered, "Well, humans have often mistaken my kind for them. Light fae are like dark fae, except we are more healers. As well as more human looking, save for our wings. We also are more prone to help humans during times of strife."
"Why is that?" He would ask curiously, following right next to her.
"We see the good in them and try to help guide them in ways that the dark fae can't. However, we're also more solitary and keep to ourselves on our mountain, especially with that feud between the dark fae."
"Feud?"
"A long time ago, all fae lived in harmony, but as we are like humans, prejudism arose. Eventually, it led to the dark fae attacking the light fae and there's been a feud ever since. It's what caused us to move to our particular area. We live up north and the dark fae live in the south. There are standing stones that are supposed to mark our territory. Although I do not know how I got to this part of the Moor's. I don't even remember falling asleep."
The girl had said this all so simply, as if this was common knowledge. However, Diaval had never heard of such a thing. Maleficent never mentioned a feud, and he had never come across a light fae before. He couldn't help but watch Evanora closely. Soon they would find themselves at the base of the mountain and saw a path that led to the top. It zigzagged in many directions, making it obvious that it would take a while to reach the top.
She would turn to him with a smile on her face. "I can take it from here, thank you for walking with me."
"Oh, I can walk with you to the top, just to make sure that you get home safely." Diaval said, mostly because he was curious about her people.
"Are you sure? You won't be needed soon?"
"No, I'll be okay. Maleficent wanted me to make sure you get home safely, regardless."
"Alright, I hope you're up for the trek." She would turn around and start walking up the path. Walking with ease, as she had spent all her time walking everywhere. Even climbing through trees.
The man would follow behind her. Rather surprised that he seemed to like her company. She walked up the mountain with a spring in her step, as if everything made her happy. Which they did. Evanora loved being one with nature and although she envied everyone's ability to fly, she never let that bring her down too much. Every day was an adventure, and this was one of the biggest adventures of her life. Although she did not know that there would be trials thrown her way.
