Prologue
Cold and heartless
The cries of children and the screaming of adults filled the air as knights surrounded the exit preventing anyone from leaving.
Behind the villagers is a blood stained village with twisted corpses on the grass accompanied by screams of pain and terror.
A man was screaming whilst trying to push past the knights who were forcefully keeping him back. Behind them was a small girl held back by a villager.
Man- "LET ME THROUGH! MY DAUGHTER'S RIGHT THERE!" He was trying to squeeze through the knights who surrounded the exit.
Girl- "DADDY!" She struggled but the villager wouldn't let her go.
Knight- "Not until one of the demon hunters checks you!" The knight shoved the man onto the ground.
He fell and held his arm in pain, he growled and glared at the knights. He stood up and looked around him
Other people were also crying out to their loved ones, mothers and fathers alike even little children.
The man shook in frustration and pointed at the knight in front of him.
Man- " You're just going to let us die here?! Even the women and children?! You're no better than the demons!" The knight growled and was about to scream.
Granger- "Don't waste your breath" The knight looked behind him and saluted.
Knight- "Death chanter! Finally! A demon hunter!" Granger nodded and looked at the man, then his arm.
Granger approached the man and aimed his gun.
The man flinched in fear. He had a terrified expression as Granger looked blankly at him.
Man- "YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO SAVE US! NOT KILL US ALL OFF!" Granger doesn't react.
Granger- "Show me what you're hiding on your arm" The man flinches and shakes as he held his arm tight. Granger clicks his gun "Now"
The man hesitantly shows Granger his wound.
All the people backed away in fear and the knights held their weapons tight.
The wound was a bite mark dripping with blood. Black string-like substances hung from the bite mark.
Granger- "…I apologize, but you have their blood"
The man flinches and begins tearing up.
Man- " YOU'RE JUST GOING TO LET MY DAUGHTER LIVE WITHOUT A FATHER?! WHAT KIND OF MONSTER ARE YOU?! "
Granger- "You're infected with demon blood. Who knows when you'll turn? Regardless, you'll be one of them and you'll tear your own daughter limb from limb if I let you through" the man shook his head in disbelief, his eyes filled with tears as he fell on his knees.
Man- "N-no... Please..." The man looked at his daughter with tears in both their eyes.
Man- "At least... Let me say goodb-"
Granger pulled the trigger and the man's head was shot open. Everyone went silent.
Blood splattered on the grass as he fell on his side.
The little girl stopped crying and stared in shock as her father's corpse stared lifelessly at her.
Her expression was filled with agony as her father's eyes began to lose color.
The corpse suddenly began to shake violently and everyone backed away. Granger looked down at the corpse and put his foot on the neck.
Granger repeatedly stomped down until the head ripped off. He kicked the head away as the corpse stopped.
Granger raised his head and looked at everyone else with wounds.
Granger- "Don't waste my time and stay still" He aimed his gun at them as they stared at him in fear.
It was past dusk and the Guild master was polishing the table whistling a tune.
The doorbell rings as two men went inside.
The Guild master looked over and smiled as he puts away the cloth he was holding.
Guild master- "How'd it go?" Alucard sighs in response.
Alucard- "Horribly... Most of the village was already dead once we got there" The Guild master sadly nods.
Guild master- "I see... Well good work anyway. I'll add the reward to both of your accounts, alright?" They nod.
Alucard looked at Granger, he was about to leave not wasting any more time.
Alucard- "Hey, Granger" Granger turns and looks at Alucard "Di... Did you feel bad about killing those people?" Granger shakes his head.
Granger- "They were infected, they were going to die anyway. Why should I feel bad?" Alucard sighs.
Alucard- "What about the children that don't have parents anymore?"
Granger- "I survived without mine, and so did you. I have no reason to feel bad" Alucard sighed and nodded.
Alucard- "You really are heartless... Aren't you?" Granger nods.
Granger- "If I had a heart, I wouldn't be a demon hunter" Alucard nods in agreement.
Alucard- "Yeah... But even I would feel some guilt if I had killed that many people..."
Granger- "You shouldn't. They were going to die anyway. No use feeling bad for breathing corpses"
Granger turns back to the exit and continues walking.
Alucard follows him outside.
The outside was filled with people walking around and going about.
Alucard put a hand on Granger's shoulder which resulted in Alucard's metal hand scraping the spikes.
Alucard- "You're missing something, Granger" Granger gives Alucard a questioning look.
Granger- "What do you mean?" Alucard smiles.
Alucard- "Something to live for... Something to love... Something to make you feel"
Granger sighed.
Granger- "That thing... Died a long time ago, Alucard... And nothing will bring them back" Alucard frowns but he shakes his head and smiles.
Alucard- "You'll find someone that'll bring all those things back eventually. It happens to everyone" Granger looks forward.
Granger- "Alucard... If it's already been this long without it happening... Who says it'll happen anytime soon?" Alucard gives an encouraging smile.
Alucard- "No one knows when it will happen. But it happens to everyone, and I know it will happen to you someday" Granger looks at Alucard and sighs.
Granger- "Maybe... But I don't think it will"
Alucard- "Perhaps... But we're not prophets are we? There's still a chance! Just try not to die until then, alright?" Granger nods.
Alucard- "I'm going back to the town tomorrow morning, wanna come with? You'll be able to make some friends" Granger shakes his head.
Granger- "Sorry, but I'll just continue on quests for now" Alucard sighs.
Alucard- "Fine. Just go there eventually, alright? There's so many people I want to introduce you to" Granger pauses and nods
Alucard- "Well, see you"
Granger- "See you"
They both wave and go off in separate directions.
