I have excuses as to why I've not been able to finish this for a while... some are that I've had surgery which I'm still healing from and I've not been able to focus on this... among other things so... I'm sorry.
As always not edited so I'm sorry for the mistakes.
Chapter 15
Last night had been a long trying night for Arizona.
She and her mother had learned that Daniel would most likely need surgery but she was holding out hope it could wait until Cristina was back and studied his case.
She had fought so many emotions throughout the evening and into the early morning that she barely got an ounce of rest.
It was now close to noon the next day when she found herself groaning as she grabbed her dead phone from the window seal of her father's hospital room.
The device had died at some point during the night and she hadn't even attempted to charge it.
And even though she and Callie were at odds she knew she needed to get some power to the phone to check in on her little family.
She had been at the hospital with her father for close to 14 hours now and she hadn't even attempted to contact Callie... not once.
By this time it was mainly because she didn't have a charger on her and she prolonged walking down the street to buy one.
However, she knew mornings were rough on Callie so she felt the need to at least check up on her even after everything.
She hated this.
She couldn't stand fighting with Callie. It always made her feel adrift.
So Arizona waited as long as she could before finally excusing herself from her father's room.
She had just rounded the corner near the end of the cardiac wing of Seattle Grace when her eyes caught sight of a very familiar figure hunkered down in a chair in the waiting room area.
She immediately stopped in her tracks to give herself a moment before continuing further.
She didn't want to particularly do this here, much less now, but she couldn't ignore it; not any longer.
So, after coming to a halt in the waiting area and with a shaky breath she quietly announced her presence.
"Hey,"
Callie's head swiftly jerked up when she heard that ever so familiar voice.
"Hey," she finally answered with a weak and maybe even a little timid reply; afraid that her wife would be even more pissed for showing up but she would face that wrath if need be.
Arizona surveyed the area before speaking again.
"Where's Charlee," she questioned flatly as she sat down beside her while keeping her vision straight ahead.
She couldn't chance a glance at the woman just yet because she was afraid she would lose her composure she had built up over the last several hours.
All she wanted to do since receiving the news about her father was to be comforted by Callie and she hadn't been able to achieve that.
And right now she didn't even know if she deserved that security.
"She's with Teddy and Jax at the park." Callie took a chance and glanced over to the stoic woman beside her.
"How long have you been here?" She questioned clasping her hands together resting them between her knees.
"About three-four hours." She mumbled. She was too afraid to say more at the moment. She didn't want to set the blonde off again.
"Why?" Arizona questioned after a few moments. "I asked you to stay home so why are you here?" She clarified her question while looking down at her locked hands.
She needed to focus on anything but Callie's gaze.
"Good times and bad," she was ready to lay everything out in the open. "You're my wife," sadness was evident in her voice. She didn't know if Arizona wanted to even look at her much less be around her right now, yet she couldn't help herself. She had to be here.
"You're hurting," she spoke up again while looking down at her hands feeling very uncomfortable at the moment. "I know you probably don't want to see me right now, and," she paused as she thought back to last nights argument. "I-I wouldn't blame you," she took a deep breath before releasing a sigh. "But I want to be near because this is my family too," she quipped a little loudly before they became silent for a few moments.
Arizona felt those words.
She may not be as close to Carlos or Lucia as Callie is to her parents but she believed that was only because they lived all the way across the country.
Arizona and her mother-in-law had became closer after Maria's death.
The two text and call each other quite often and she strongly believes they would be even closer if she and Carlos lived as close as her parents do.
"I'm sorry," Arizona spoke up. She knew Callie loved her mother and father like they were her own. "You have every right to be here. I never should have told you to stay away from them."
"I'm not just here for them. I am here for you, in case you would happen to need someone. I want that someone to be me," Callie spoke up again finally chancing a glance at her wife. "I won't bother you, but I just felt like I should be near right now. I know you're upset with me but I'm still here."
"You should be home resting," Arizona said quietly. Having Callie here gave her a sense of relief she had needed all night, but she was still mad at her. "Not here... slumped in some hard chair for hours."
"I should be with you."
"Callie," she sighed not wanting to get into this right now.
"What am I supposed to do, Arizona?" She couldn't be upset at her for wanting to be here for her no matter their situation. She was not going to sit here and get scolded for being there for her during this time. "I can't sit home and act like none of this is hard for you when your dad is sick. How selfish would I be?" She questioned. "I know it's been a trying time lately with having to take care of me and Charlee, but... someone has to be there for you, too. I'm here," she said as she tried to keep her voice from trembling. "I. Am. Here." She stressed with a little anger as a tear presented itself in her eye.
Things became quiet between the two again.
All Arizona could think was that she needed out of this hospital.
So, after a few silent moments she took a deep breath and stood up and made her way towards the exit.
She then hesitated about ten feet into her walk before turning and looking back when she didn't hear footsteps behind her.
Callie just shook her head. She didn't care if the blonde was walking away from her right now, she wasn't going back home without her.
She had no idea where Arizona was going but she knew wherever it was she wouldn't be long so she was going to stay rooted in her seat until this whole ordeal was over or her wife came home to get some rest.
She wasn't leaving Arizona to deal with this alone. She would sit here all day and night if she had to.
"Aren't you coming?" Arizona asked seeing Callie still seated in her spot. If they were going to makeup she didn't want it to be in this solemn atmosphere of the hospital.
As frustrated as the blonde was last night she had time to cool down, access the situation and realize it was just a misunderstanding. However, she was still upset Callie would even think of that woman as anything but an attempted murderer and baby snatcher.
"Do you want me to come?" Callie slowly looked up and made eye contact; her face still saddened from the past events.
"Yes!" She was too foolish to admit that before.
Callie felt an immense pressure left from her shoulders at her answer.
And of course Arizona wanted her wife with her even if she was still mad at her. She was too bull headed to admit that hours ago but after feeling a little bit of peace in her presence she wasn't about to go anywhere without her now.
Callie was always the one person she needed even if she was too stubborn to let her be there like last night.
"I do," she held her hand out when the brunette slowly caught up with her. "I'm still mad," she clarified when Callie clasped her hand in hers.
"That doesn't mean I can't be here with you though." She stated her voice still meek.
"No it doesn't," Arizona agreed feeling the tension subside as soon as their hands collided. "I just... I wish I would have realized that sooner."
Callie gave her a nod with a contrite smile before voicing herself again. "Can I... may I... hug you?" The brunette questioned with a touch of hesitance.
Arizona immediately felt more weight lift from her chest at that question.
Giving her a nod of her own, she replied with, "I won't be okay until you do," she finished with a soft yet sad smile of her own before stepping into the waiting embrace of Callie's arms.
"I'm sorry," Callie whispered in Arizona's ear. "For your dad and last night."
Hearing those words and feeling those warm arms embrace her was all it took for Arizona's demeanor to come crashing down.
She couldn't be strong any longer.
"I'm so sorry," she whispered again when she felt the blonde's body being quiver.
Arizona had been holding herself together since arriving at the hospital. So when she was finally be able to lean on the one person she loved the most... her vulnerability began to spew forth.
Gathering herself just enough Arizona lightly whispered a "thank you," before
burying her nose into the crook of Callie's neck and tightening her hold on the brunette seeking out a bit more comfort in the moment.
As much as she wanted to stay mad she couldn't do it. She really needed Callie right now even more so than ever.
"Are you okay," she whispered dropping a kiss just above her ear and pulling back.
Arizona shook her head and held tight to keep Callie from releasing her. "Please don't let me go yet," she begged when she felt the surgeon loosen her grip. She felt so much better in her arms.
Callie knitted her eyebrows together in worry as Arizona clung to her.
"Shh..." she tried to soothe as she tightened her arms around her as well. "It's okay."
She hadn't seen the blonde so distraught in a very long time, if ever, so she held on to her until she felt Arizona's arms go limp after a little time passed.
"You okay?"
"Yeah," the blonde breathed and pulled back dabbing her eyes in the process. "Thank you."
"Don't thank me," she responded brushing wavy blonde hair behind the paler woman's ear.
"Ughhhh." she moaned taking a deep breath releasing all the tension she had been holding before taking hold of Callie's hand. "I'm glad you're here."
"I'm glad too."
"Would uhh... would you like to get a fruit smoothie and sit outside a while," Arizona asked. She was dying for a strong coffee, but since Callie was here she wouldn't drink it in front of her. "Those four walls are starting to close in on me."
"I could go for a smoothie," she agreed feeling a hundred times better than she did ten minutes ago. "Oh, and the baby wants a sandwich from the deli," she insisted rubbing her stomach.
"The baby, huh," she took a side glance at the dark haired woman.
"Yep,"
"I could go for some lunch right now, too," she couldn't help but smile as she looked to her pregnant wife and really took in the sight before her for the first time in hours.
She couldn't believe the beautiful, pregnant aura that Callie put off.
This woman was absolutely stunning in her new pregnancy glow.
"Do you think they'd put peanut butter on it?" The brunette asked her wife as they crossed the street in front of the hospital. "I can't stop with the peanut butter. I want it on everything."
That sounded absolutely disgusting to her but if Callie wanted it she would see that she got it.
"If they don't have any I'll run and get you some peanut butter. I need to grab a phone charger anyway."
"No," Callie was adamant that Arizona was not taking care of her needs today. "I can run and get it if they don't," she insisted. As much as she loved Arizona taking care of her, her wife needed it more than she did at the moment. "Today's about you," she loosened their joined hands and brought Arizona's up for her to wrap it around her arm. "I'm taking care of you today, okay," she finally looked over to her lover as she led her to the restaurant. "You can have coffee, too. I won't mind."
Arizona couldn't help but feel warmth inside of her when Callie said she would take care of her. That's all she had been wanting since everything spiraled out of control.
"No, a smoothie is fine with me."
"No, I'm sure you need all the caffeine you can get. You must be tired."
"Coffee does sound pretty good," she admitted. "You sure?"
"I'm positive," she gave her a tight smile and nod. "Come on, lunch is on me." she winked.
"So thoughtful of you." Arizona teased.
"I'm sorry, Arizona," Callie told her wife as they became comfortable in the booth opposite each other. She could tell the woman was still holding back because she would normally sit beside her instead of in front of her. "I mean that," she continued genuinely, "I'm really sorry for what I said."
Arizona wanted to tell her it was okay but she didn't.
"I would lying if I said that didn't hurt," she admitted.
"I know," she exhaled. She didn't mean anything by blurting out the woman's name and she needed her to believe that. "I wasn't being callus or anything. She just used to be the next best and I just anxiously blurted it out," she insisted. "It's not that I forgot about what she did. I remember that day vividly and I wish I didn't. I am reminded of that time every time I see you with Charlee and... other times," she confessed. Every time she saw the faint scare on her wife's stomach where Erica punctured her with the scalpel she was reminded of that horrific event. "I wonder how things would've been if she actually stole her from you... from us. I came so close to losing you," she shook her head, "both of you that night. That was the worst day of my life, Arizona. I thought I lost everything that I was living for. So, I'd never bring her up callously like that. You know that you, Charlee, and this baby are my world. I would walk through fire for every one of you without a second thought."
"I know," the blonde said sadly.
After a lot of thought throughout the night she realized she should have known better than blowing up like she did even if she didn't like it.
The main reason she got so heated was the uncertainty of her father even though Callie bringing her up shook her to the core.
"Now that you're finally pregnant," Arizona shook her head just at the thought. "I finally get to feel the way you did when I was pregnant and I can't even imagine that happening to you. I'd go crazy, Calliope." She looked up to her wife.
Even though it was a heavy topic she couldn't help when a small grin appeared on her lips when she saw her belly.
Just the thought of Callie being pregnant always put a smile on her face and now that she actually is... well that feeling was beyond exquisite.
No matter how mad she was, she couldn't help the smile that graced her face every time she looked at the glowing woman.
Callie was always beautiful to her, but now she just shined. Arizona had never found her more radiant than she did nowadays.
"How's your dad?" The surgeon asked bringing Arizona out of her thoughts.
Hearing Arizona say Calliope eased the brunette tremendously because Arizona rarely called her that when she was mad and it killed her.
"I don't know," she sighed in defeat. "I think he's going to have to have a bypass." She had been putting on a brave front for her parents but she was dying on the inside. "I'm trying to get them to hold off until Cristina is back. I want her opinion."
"Why didn't you tell me?" She saw her wife's gaze turn from her to the people passing on the street. "Arizona," she whispered seeing her tough demeanor turn so quickly that she didn't hesitate to move to sit beside the blonde. "Why didn't you, honey?" She pulled her close.
She knew it had to be killing her wife not being able to talk about it with her.
Callie knew if things were switched it would have ate her alive on the inside not being able to talk about the situation with the woman even if there was tension.
"You've been under enough stress with work, your pregnancy is rough, you're sick every time you turn around and then our argument. I didn't want to add to things until I had to," she sniffed.
Arizona was feeling guilty for leaving her the way she did now that things have cooled down a little. She didn't want her under stress, but yet she was a major cause of it by leaving in haste and demanding that she not follow her when all she wanted was the woman to hold her and tell her everything was going to be okay.
"But, babe,"
Arizona quickly grabbed a napkin and blotted her eyes when she felt the coziness of the comforting arms of her favorite person.
"You can't do this alone," Callie continued when Arizona chocked back a sob. "You don't have to... I'm here. That's how this works."
"I just don't want to stress you with it. It's not good for you right now," she sniffed back tears. "I've caused enough."
"Baby," she felt horrible because she, of all people, was the reason Arizona felt like she couldn't come to her. "You not telling me is what upsets me. I'm your wife. This stuff is supposed to fall on my shoulders. I'm your shelter when you're in need, remember?"
"I remember," she muttered still not wanting to put this on her.
"We're in this life together, sweetie." She soothed causing Arizona to relax against her.
Finally melting in her wife's embrace, Arizona let out a few tears as she was enveloped in the arms she had longed for all night and morning.
"I'm scared," her lip was trembling as she fought back more tears. She didn't want to lose control right here in the restaurant, but when Callie hugged her so close all hope was lost. "I can't picture a life without my daddy."
"Oh, honey," she pulled her closer to her chest. "I know, sweetie," she whispered as she held Arizona's head to her chest. "I know," she repeated while her wife cried.
Callie knew Daniel had always been a huge staple in Arizona's life and she couldn't imagine having to watch her lose him right now or ever for that matter.
"It's okay, Arizona," she whispered into her wife's hair as she gently rocked her as she released her pent up worry. "Everything is going to be okay." She continued to calm her for several moments until the blonde became quiet.
After calming herself a bit, Arizona tenderly placed her right hand on Callie's growing bump as she tried to let everything else diminish for a few moments. "I missed you both."
"We missed you, too."
That statement made Arizona's heart flutter. She loved how, even though they were fighting, they still longed for one another.
"How are you and my tiny human?" She asked. Her tears finally running dry from her breakdown. "Have you been sick any at all?" She asked while softly caressing her stomach.
She felt bad that she hadn't asked her earlier but she had other pressing things on her mind.
"A little," Callie placed her left hand over top her wife's resting on her stomach. She didn't wanna make her feel guilty for not being there with her like she had been during the morning sickness, but she wasn't going to lie either. "About four-five times already today and it's just... one in the afternoon." She said looking at her watch.
"Did you eat anything this morning?" She asked lightly scratching Callie's stomach. She was roughly eight weeks pregnant but her stomach looked otherwise, which made Arizona confident they were gonna have a boy.
"I tried to eat a piece of toast, but I couldn't even keep that down."
"Peanut butter,"
"What?"
"We'll put peanut butter on your toast in the morning to see if that helps."
"Okay," Callie finally relaxed knowing her wife would come home at some point in the day.
"What about last night after I left?" She knew Callie was sick the biggest part of the days and she felt terrible for leaving her to take care of herself and a crying Charlee, too. "Did you sleep any?"
"On and off," she shrugged not wanting to think back to that time. "I was up and down several times. I'm not sure if it was morning sickness or not. Every time I closed my eyes I saw the hurt look on your face and I'd have to run to the bathroom."
"I'm sorry," Arizona continued to caress the baby bump. "I should hav..."
"No, honey," Callie stopped her from finishing. "You do not owe me any apologies."
"I left. I left when you begged to go with me ... I just... I left. I was so out of it with worry that I..." she tried but was quickly stopped again.
"No, Arizona, you were in shock and...and in fear. You had no clue what was happening to your father. Emotions were high. You had every right to leave and be with your dad."
"So did you, but I stopped you," she finally raised her head up off her wife's chest but made no move to remove her hand from her stomach. "I needed you, and I stopped you from being there with me." she said dejectedly as tears welled in her eyes again. She wished she could have a do over because storming out only made it worse.
"I'm here now and I'm not going anywhere no matter how bad you fight me," Callie whispered while wiping the fallen tears from the blonde's eyes.
"I'm not fighting you again," she whispered after laying her head on the brunette's comforting shoulder.
"You know what," Callie wanted to veer the subject away from the heavy stuff for the moment.
"What?"
"You'd be proud," she he shyly smiled when the blonde raised her head to look over at her. "Charlee slept in her bed all night long."
"She did?"
That was definitely a bit of surprised.
Anytime her wife had the chance she'd let Charlee sleep in their bed so she figured for sure after their fight the brunette would have put her in their bed.
"Yeah," she wanted to grab their daughter up and cuddle with her in her bed but Callie had left her in her bed instead of bringing her to theirs to sleep.
"Why?"
"Because you fuss at me when I let her unless she is sick," she chuckled as Arizona eyed her. "And... I didn't want her to see me crying." She admitted.
"You cried?"
"I was crying when you left," she defended.
"I know, but... even after?"
"Well... yeah," she said a bit weak. "I was so upset at myself for what I said. I knew I had hurt you and it killed me. I never spent the night alone in our house like that and you just left without so much as a goodbye."
Arizona could hear the hurt in her wife's voice as she let out her admissions. She never meant to hurt Callie by leaving; she just had to get away.
"I'm sorry," she whispered her apology. "It just hurt, ya know. Every time I hear her name I tense up. At times I still feel the need to look over my shoulder. So, I was blown away when you said that. Of all people... you were the one that mentioned her, but you didn't just mention her you wanted to help my dad."
"I know," she exhaled. "I know, and I apologize for that."
"Thank you, and I'm sorry for how I reacted," she said ready to put it behind them.
"You good?" Arizona questioned after Callie sat down on the bench outside of the hospital. "You feeling okay?" She asked again cuddling into the warm body waiting for her.
They had just left the deli and made their way back to the hospital grounds.
She knew if Callie's meal didn't sit well with her it would happen soon after eating.
"This is my three to four hour window during the day I feel decent, so yeah I'm okay," she confirmed sliding her arm behind Arizona.
"Good," she nodded laying her head on Callie's shoulder. "I'm so tired, Cal," she said with a sigh.
That phrase immediately brought Callie back to late last night. She had heard those exact words uttered just hours ago.
"I need to tell you something," she said a bit hesitant.
"What?" Arizona questioned sipping her hot coffee.
"I uhh... I heard you." Callie admitted.
"What?" She questioned confusingly. "Heard me... what?"
"Last night," she whispered when the blonde sat up straight. "I tried calling you but you wouldn't answer. Shortly after that I got a call from you but apparently your phone was in your pocket or something. I'm not sure. I..." she paused feeling the pain she felt last night at Arizona's admission to her mother. "I heard you talking to your mom."
Arizona went ridged and her heart began to pick up. She remembered seeing her phone dim a few times as if it had been on, but she hadn't recalled hitting any buttons.
She couldn't remember exactly what all she said to her mom, but she knew she complained a lot and she didn't want Callie to know she cried to her mom about their situation.
"Callie, I... I didn't..." Arizona quickly turned towards her. She couldn't think of everything she and her mother discussed because of the state she was in but she remembered enough and she definitely didn't want Callie to hear her qualms.
She was just upset and needed to vent.
"No," the brunette stopped her before she could say anything else. "You were right. You've had a lot on your shoulders, Arizona. You do hold our family together a lot of times, especially now," she grabbed her wife's hand. "Actually you've really been my rock since we decided to try for another baby, and maybe I have become too needy and forgot about your needs," she confessed.
"You do, Calliope," she admitted.
"No, Arizona," she denied. "I don't think I have, not fully."
"You have," the blonde contended. She has never once felt like her needs haven't been met by her wife.
"I think maybe I've took you for granted, Arizona. I don't feel like I have been there for you the way you have for me, but I'm here now, okay. I promise."
"Callie," she shook her head in denial. "No,"
"Yes, Arizona, and in doing so, Teddy has offered to keep Charlee for the night and I agreed. I have also talked to Aria and explained what is going on so o she offered to come and stay for a few days to keep Charlee occupied while I focus on you and you focus on your dad."
"Callie," she exclaimed. "We can't ask her to do that."
"I didn't ask Arizona, she offered and I accepted." She was going to be there one way or another, however, with work, Charlee, morning sickness, Arizona, and now Daniel she needed some assistance and she wasn't too proud to accept the service. "I need help," she stated. "I need to be there for you and only you right now. You deserve that much."
"Cal," she sighed.
She had to admit it felt pretty good.
Hearing the brunette say that made her emotions bubble back up to the surface.
Her wife always knew what she needed.
"So tonight if your dad is okay we'll go home and do whatever you want. If you want to just relax in the hot tub, a bath, sit on the couch and watch TV, or just lay in bed then that's what we're going to do. Just please... let me," Callie pleaded.
Arizona knew Callie was right. They needed help from family right now, but she found it hard to ask.
"I can't wait to see the little blob for the first time next week," she conceited to Callie's wishes and settled back into her body.
They had been so anxious to see the sonogram when they found out they were expecting, but Addison had just left for Los Angeles for a month when they found Callie was pregnant so they were holding off until she returned.
"Me too," Callie smiled when Arizona snuck her hand under her shirt and placed it on her stomach.
"Can we have a fire outback tonight?"
"It's cold."
"I know," Arizona said. "But, I think it'll relax me," she laid her head on Callie's shoulder as she continued to caress her hand on he woman's stomach. "We can lay on the big lounger under a blanket and keep each other warm."
Callie let her wife talk as she rubbed her stomach. She loved this protective side of Arizona.
Since they found out she was pregnant the blonde couldn't keep her hands away from her bump.
"I want to spend some time with Charlee first. I miss her. I need some of her cuddles," the blonde finished.
"Sounds perfect, honey," she agreed with a tender kiss the pale forehead.
"How's dad?" Callie asked without looking up when she heard the patio door close.
"He is resting," Arizona stated with a sigh before motioning for her wife to make room for her on the lounger.
It had even a long day for her.
For them.
After they made up they spent a few hours with Daniel until Barbara insisted she go home and rest. So with a lot of resistance she conceded but insisted they stopped on the way home to have a quick dinner with their daughter before heading home.
And now that Arizona was home she just wanted to collapse and forget the day.
"He needs all he can get right now," Callie stated scooting over expecting the woman to lay beside her but only she didn't.
Instead, the blonde situated herself further down the lounger with her head near her torso.
"Yea," she breathed getting comfy before resting her head on the side of Callie's stomach.
Arizona was exhausted mentally and physically.
"You okay?"
"Mmhmm," she hummed closing her eyes but not before laying a tender hand on the opposite side of the swell of the baby bump before her.
"What are you doing?" She questioned when she felt the blonde sweep her thumb back and forth across her stomach.
"Resting as well," she breathed.
Callie knew from the sound of her lovers voice that she was spent.
"Okay," Callie's replied caressing blonde hair trying to gently give her comfort.
"Baby cuddle time," she spoke again as she became content simply soaking up some belly time.
Focusing on their baby was one of the few things that took her mind away from her dad right now and she wanted to consume herself in those thoughts. So, she laid with her head on her wife's stomach to feel the closeness of the brunette and their baby.
"Ahh," Callie couldn't help when a genuine smiled graced her face. Arizona was already so in love with their unborn child and she loved it.
"Honey," she whispered when the woman became silent.
She knew she was still having a rough time accepting her dad's current condition so she needed to let her be for now, but she just couldn't.
"Talk to me, Ari," she pleaded while combing her fingers through long blonde hair.
"I don't wanna talk," Arizona said flatly.
This was exactly how she dealt with Tim's death. After he passed she closed herself off refusing to talk to her parents or Teddy.
That action only caused more pain and heartache and she didn't want to do that this time, but she didn't want to talk right now.
She didn't have words.
"O-okay," Callie resided to the fact that she couldn't force Arizona to open up until she was ready. "I'm here anytime you want to."
"I don't know what to say," she whispered as she still softly caressed the smooth stomach that housed their newly growing baby.
Callie could hear the dejectedness in her response. She wished there was something she could do to make everything better, but all she knew to do was just be there. "Baby," she reach down and pulled the woman's chin up to get her attention. "You don't have to say a thing," she told her. "We can just lay here, okay."
"Okay," Arizona replied sadly.
Several quiet minutes had passed as Callie tenderly caressed the woman's head. She was beginning to think her wife had drifted off to sleep until she heard her speak again.
"I can't wait to see our baby," Arizona said while cupping the brunette's stomach in front of her face.
They had their first doctor's appointment in a few days upon Addison's return and neither could wait.
"Me too," was all Callie said while continuing to softly run her fingers through blonde hair that cascaded down the side of her torso.
She knew Arizona loved the touch.
It was soothing as much as comforting so she continued doing it for several minutes until she decided to speak yet again.
"Babe," She whispered after a long silence between the two. "You asleep?" She questioned before gently rubbing her back.
Lost in thought Arizona barely heard her wife's question. Her mind seemed to be going in every direction at the moment and she couldn't seem to slow it down.
"No," she replied after a beat. "I'm just laying here. Thinking."
"Come here," she coxed the blonde to move. Callie sat up a little and spread her legs so she would set between them. "Let me hold you."
"Is it my turn to be cuddled," she questioned quickly obliging.
"Your turn for cuddles," Callie wrapped her arms around her wife who was now seated between her legs on the lounger.
"What are you thinking about, baby?" She questioned then kissed the blonde's temple when Arizona turned her body sideways and threw her legs over the edge if the lounger and burrowed herself into Callie's side.
"Honestly..." she paused a moment inhaling the collar of her wife's shirt. "Everything," she finished by laying her head down on the side of Callie's chest.
"Like?"
"Charlee," she admitted, wrapping her arms around Callie. "You, our baby, my dad."
"What about Char?"
"Just wondering if she was a handful for Teddy during bedtime," she admitted. "Maybe I should text her and make sure she has her stuffed elephant."
"She's all settled, sweetie. I checked on her while you were on the phone with your mom," Callie assured her.
"Oh, okay," her breath barely a whisper.
"What about me and the baby?"
"Just that I can't wait to hear the heartbeat and see you further along. And, how beautiful you'll be."
"And," she prodded while squeezing her tighter.
"And..." the blonde sighed. "With everything that happened today... I think of our baby I can't help but wonder..." she trailed off not wanting to finish her thought.
"Wonder what, honey?" Callie urged her to continue.
"If... if my dad will be around to see him," she inhaled deeply while trying to keep her emotions in check.
She hated that she had cried so much today.
"You are so instant it's a boy," She let out a light chuckle feeling her wife's hand appear on her stomach yet again for the hundredth time today.
The surgeon will never get tired of it.
"I just know he's a boy," she caressed her covered belly. "I want my dad to be able to meet him."
"He will," Callie turned her gaze to worried blue eyes. "He will be here," she stated diplomatically.
"I'm sorry for walking out last night, Calliope," she he whispered looking up at the starry night.
Even though they put it behind them she needed to apologize again for her outburst and the hurt she caused herself much less her wife for doing so.
"I'm sorry for what I did, too."
"I love you," she rested her head on her chest.
All she wanted to do was forget the last 24 hours of only four a little while.
"I love you, too," she said placing an affectionate kiss on her forehead.
That simple touch put a need in Arizona that she wanted to drown herself in so she subtly peppered small kisses across the expanse of Callie's smooth flesh.
"Honey," she moaned reveling on the feel when pink lips seized her body.
The blonde didn't reply she just pressed forward seeking more.
"Arizona," Callie moaned moments later as she felt soft lips continue to press tender kisses across her collarbone and move up the side of her neck.
She knew where this was leading and she wanted it, but she wanted to make sure the woman wasn't lost in her emotions.
"Babe," she tried again.
"Shhh..." she whispered before placing another and then another across the brunette's soft skin.
"Maybe we shouldn't," Callie breathed beginning to take notice of her own arousal.
"I think we should," she whispered deadpanning her site to red lips before her tongue traced them pleading for entrance.
"Sweetie," she pulled back reluctantly even through she reciprocated the kiss.
"I want you," Arizona raised her head and whispered her plea as the brunette searched her eyes. She wanted nothing more than to make love to her wife right now.
"I want you, too, but maybe we shouldn't right now. You're upset and rightfully so."
Arizona gazed into deep brown orbs to find reassurance before speaking.
"Being with you gives me solace, Calliope," she swallowed as she studied her lover's delicate face. "You take my mind away from everything that worries me," she leaned down and pecked her wife's firm lips. "Take me away," she urged. "Please."
Callie took her hand from the woman's side and placed it on her cheek.
"I'd do anything for you," she spoke softly caressing her thumb across her delicate face before leaning up and meeting the blonde's soft swollen lips in an impassioned kiss.
So... chapter 14 and 15 were the only chapters I had outlined for this story. I have an ending for the story and a little bit of an idea how I want it to go but we will see where it leads for them!
Any suggestions?!
Also, I'm working on next chapter. Hopefully they'll see their baby soon.
