Chapter 3
I think darkness and I are starting to form some type of relationship, seeing how much I end up seeing it. I felt at peace in my slumber when a familiar beeping broke through the silence and destroyed that peace. I groggily opened my eyes and was immediately struck with pain in my head and abdomen, tears started to form in my eyes as I was trying not to scream out from the pain my body was in. I looked around the room and noticed it was the same room that I was in before. I was caught off guard when I heard the door open, and a nurse walk in and made eye contact with me. "Uhhhh…. hi?" what I got in return was not what I expected. I felt my ears fold onto my skull as her scream sounded more like a screeching banshee. "Ma'am, please stop screaming, you're hurting my ears!" As soon as she heard me, she stopped looked at me, and fainted. I quickly disconnected myself from the machines and went over to her to see if she was alright. As soon as I got her, I saw multiple guards bursting in the room, weapons aimed at me. I kept staring at them, holding the nurse closer to my chest. I noticed her starting to stir from unconsciousness and saw her eyes meet with mine before she abruptly fainted again. "Let's all just calm down for a second and think through our actions, okay?" I told the guards that still had their weapons pointed at me. "How are you awake? You were never meant to wake up." A guard with a purple cape said. 'That must be a pretty high-ranking officer, which meant he was possibly the leader of the group before me.' "Sir, with all due respect, I don't have a damn clue on what is going on here. I wake up and then the nurse just starts screaming and then you guys show up telling me I am not even supposed to be awake. I just want to know what happened after that wolf attack." I told the leader. "Wolf attack? Well, we haven't been attacked by the wolves in over a year, if I recall correctly." This…this caught me off guard. I was in a coma. I…was…in…a… I could start feeling my heart start to pick up its pace, due to the new information that was just presented to me. I collapsed back onto my hands, the nurse just rolling onto my abdomen. "How long was I out?" I asked, I had to know the exact timeframe. "A year and a half, if my memory serves correct." I was in a coma for a year, at least I woke up. That thought caused more to spin around 'How close were they to pulling the plug on me?'
My thoughts were interrupted by a shadow hovering over me, I looked up and saw two of the guards looking down at me with their hands outstretched for me to grab. I took their hands, or claws, and pulled myself up. They led me out of the room and towards where I remember killing those two wolves, the room where my belongings were. They opened a locker, but what I saw in it was not my belongings. There were clothes in there, yes, but not mine. "Where's my stuff?" I asked, wanting to know what they did with them. "They got destroyed, there's none of your stuff besides this foldable leather thingy and this." He said as he held out my wallet and, to my surprise, my phone. "I took my things from him and instantly unlocked my phone. The background was a picture of my family, but they were not mine. I mean, they were, just not human. I started to tear up as I looked at the family that I had lost and would never be able to see again. I saw that I still had some apps on my phone, including my music, which was great. Meant I would never be bored. "Sir, you're going to need to check out with the receptionist at the desk and after that you will be free to go." He said to me, breaking me out of my scrolling. After I put on my new clothes, a blue and white cotton shirt with grey trousers, I asked for directions to the front desk and started to head there. I walked up to the desk and saw the receptionist sitting there, reading a type of Playboy magazine or this worlds version of it. I cleared my throat to get her attention and said "Hi, I'm here to check myself out. Would you be able to do that for me?" She deadpanned "What's the name?" Damn, what name would they have given me? "Uhhhh, I don't know if my name's in the system, the one's who brought me in never asked me for it. I was the one in over a year long coma, though, if that helps you narrow it down." If told her, hoping she could find it. She started to rummage through a filing cabinet, in a way that made it look like she was trying to flirt. I blushed and looked everywhere but where she was until "Here you are, there doesn't seem to be any name on record. You'll just need to sign these few things and you'll be on your way." She said, handing me my documents. After signing all the documents, I was told to, and giving a final goodbye to the beautiful eagle, I walked out into the bright world outside. I looked around and saw the most beautiful view of this land. As I started to walk down the paved roads, I saw children playing around with a ball, which was kicked over to me. I looked down at it and saw the children looking over at me, fearfully. I picked the ball up and walked over to them, with them just frozen in fear. I placed the ball down and looked at the one in front. "How about a little game?" I asked, this caught them by surprise and caused them to look at each other before turning back to me, smiling. "YES!" They all said in unison, causing me to chuckle. As we got our game of soccer going, I could not help but have two thoughts. Where was that eagle that helped me out, I should really give my thanks to her and, that if things keep going this way, I could really see myself starting to like this new life I was given.
