Chapter 19-Something Wicked

In which Killian brings back Emma and Henry, Killian and Liam reunite. There is no sign of Elsa, Robin Hood appears, there is a small insight into the Missing Year and the next 'Big Bad' is revealed.

Storybrooke. After The Missing Year.

Liam managed to get to Granny's to find the Charming's trying to control an increasingly panicked crowd. Pushing his way past Tinkerbelle her hair coming down out of it's bun who looked very put out to be back on legs after learning she could fly again. Liam did not have that problem. He expected style for him had stayed pretty much the same regardless. God knows he had not bothered both in the magical world and the non magical one with keeping up with the latest fashion trends.

David caught him pushing his way to the front and jumped down from the counter where he had been standing and made his way to him. Despite not knowing how much time had passed between them Liam got the sense that David had once again become old overnight.

It was a feeling that he knew all to well himself.

And it was exhausting.

"Thank God" David said as Liam came towards him. They hugged fiercely or David hugged him and Liam allowed him if truth be told. David looked like he had been through hell and back since he'd woken up and it was only until his wife came into view that Liam realised why.

Whatever had happened they had been gone for at least nine months because Snow White was heavily pregnant and though Liam admittedly didn't know much about the inner workings of pregnancy he was sure that when you got that big you were near your time.

"Where's Elsa?" David asked looking around as if he expected her to pop out of the woodwork complete with her blue dress and

"Not sure, I woke up and she was gone" Liam said shortly. He was not sure what had happened to Elsa but he was sure that it was not good. His stomach was churning a little and he felt constantly on edge. It was like Neverland all over again and there was nothing he could do to stop it.

"Killian?"

"No nothing, in fact we've not seen Regina yet either. Everyone's scattered all over the place. There are people in the forest, in their homes…"

"Someone cast a curse to bring us back" Snow White said her eyes shining with what Liam suspected was purpose—it reminded him of how she looked on Neverland when they'd had a quest or something equally idiotic.

"I don't see Regina doing that" Liam said. Granny, God Bless her had decided to do what she did best in a crisis and make tea and coffee and he took the cup she offered him with cold hands. However long he had been gone he was sure that he had missed coffee most of all…

And vodka.

Merlin he knew he had missed the vodka.

Anyhow he continued—

"—Not unless she could get a one way ticket back Henry."

He looked away as the Charming's took another second to recover the loss of their daughter which was either nine months ago or two hours ago depending on what you thought had happened.

"All of my stuff has been cleared out of my fridge" he said remembering suddenly. "It's like someone knew we'd been gone for a long time and took steps to make sure that nothing could spoil our return."

"Ours was the same" David said nodding. "I just don't…I think you might be right Liam—"

Liam choked on his coffee burning his tongue in the process.

"Parden?" he asked wincing. David had the grace to throw him a small smile.

"I mean your right about Regina. I don't see her doing this unless there is something in it for her. She's stuck here, Henry doesn't remember her and she has no idea where he is. Seems counterproductive, even for her. I think we need to focus on finding everyone. Focusing on helping and leading."

"I need to find Elsa and Killian"

He caught the looks passed between husband and wife and shook his head. He knew what that meant.

"No" he said taking another gulp of coffee. "You know how I feel on this, I am no leader and I have no intention of ever being one. And before you bring up my navel career that was hardly leadership and it ended pretty badly."

It wasn't like he didn't know what was going on.

Liam suspected it had been born out of the first curse and then cemented throughout Neverland. There had been that uneasy first few weeks were he and David had been almost friends and they'd had a common goal and then there had been Killian and Bae and the complicated relationship between brothers. There had been Greg and Tamara and then Neverland and he knew he had shown them (or at least to their degree) that he could lead. That he could be a confident authority figure in a crisis and that he command people and places.

He had however no desire to do that. Like Elsa all he wished for at the end of the day was a hot meal, the decent nights sleep and the comfort of the person he loved. Liam was sure that his days of leading people was over. Whatever curse, whatever time, whatever place.

Thankfully he was spared trying to put all of this in an answer when the door opened with the little bell. A man came in with wavy brown hair and bright blue eyes. A small child was dogging his heels and he was clutching next to his trousers (which even in Liam's low estimation—he knew nothing about fashion—were so tight it looked as if they had been painted on) a rather wicked looking crossbow which Liam was sure he knew how to use.

"Are you the people in charge here?"

"They are" Liam said pointing towards David and Snow.

"We are" David said pointing towards the three of them. "Emma's gone, Regina's…well…who the hell knows what Regina is doing. And nobody's seen Neal or Elsa or your brother. So that leaves you."

Liam stared at him before nodding. He had to admit that he still loathed it when David was proved right.

David led the four of them to the hallway where the man introduced himself promptly as Robin Hood. Liam who had all of the memories of Lee in his head found himself wishing for a drink. Robin Hood being an actual living person was by no means any less strange than his brother being alive but it still made him try to avoid snorting with the irony.

When this was over he needed to go to the Rabbit Hole and make sure Will and Cyrus were alright. And pour himself a vodka to boot.

Robin Hood began by explaining that he and his Merry Men had been taken to the outskirts of the forest and that was where they wanted to make camp for the foreseeable future but that he was sure he was missing his men. He had asked around before coming to see David and Snow (and by association Liam) but he was sure he was missing his men and that he couldn't remember if they had made it through the curse or whatever this was.

David shared a look with his wife and Liam shifted a little feeling the itch under his skin getting stronger and stronger. There was something very wrong here, even if Elsa had ended up on the other side of town there was no way that she should not by now ran into someone who knew her or come to find him.

"Do you know who sent us here?" David asked. Robin Hood shrugged. "Last thing I remember was a rumour that a group of people had landed in the Enchanted Forest and were working their way towards a castle."

"Well at least we know we got there" Liam muttered.

"Do you think this is Regina's work?" Snow asked her hands on her bump. Liam shook his head. Despite it all he actually found that he could think things through.

"What would she get out if it unless Henry was here" he asked. "Think about it David. Nothing that's happened changes the fact that Emma and Henry are gone. She's not gonna put herself through that pain for the added bonus of vodka and Wi-Fi is she?"

He knew he had hit the sweet spot. The Charming's might still have doubts about Regina but they couldn't deny that her focus was Henry. There was nothing that Regina did without getting her son in mind and Liam certainly couldn't see her casting a curse unless it guaranteed Henry back at her side.

Robin Hood looked between the three of them as if unsure what to say next.

"Have you seen a blonde woman, probably in jeans, legs to die for and ice coming out of her fingertips?" Liam asked suddenly. Robin had the decency to not say anything too far out.

"Mate, I've been single for a long time. Woman like that I'd remember"

Liam decided there and then that he liked Robin Hood.

"I have to go" he said rubbing a hand over his head. "I have to make sure Will and Cyrus got back ok and then I have to get the bar in working order—"

"Will Scarlett?" Robin Hood said suddenly. Liam was suddenly painfully aware that he had stepped into another quagmire and knowing Will it was going to be a mess of something he really did not want to get into.

"Yeah" he said shortly "And I'd like to point out—" he started when Robin was about to interrupt. "That the last time I left him he was happily in a relationship with an ex-queen who was so out of his league it was laughable and I need him because he picks up the late shifts now Cyrus's wife is pregnant and he makes a damn good Long Island Ice Tea."

Robin blinked and Liam was sure that he was the trying to process what was being said and didn't have a clue.

"Trust me" Liam said feeling rather sage for once. "Come to the Rabbit Hole and I'll have him make you one. Trust me whatever he's done, that will make it all up for it"

Robin did not look entirely convinced which was fair because Liam was sure that he was…well…talking through his backside to be kind and losing his mind if he was being unkind.

He really needed to find Elsa.

But he could not find Elsa anywhere.

He looked all day. He looked throughout the town and down by the docks and around the forest and there was no sign of her. Eventually he skunked back to the Rabbit Hole to check it was in one piece and found that Will and Cyrus were both their with Anastasia, Alice and Robin and that he had been mostly right. Will's ability to make a good Long Island Iced Tea and Anastasia's ability to cut through her husbands bull had managed to smooth over most of the past issues that had occurred between the two.

Cyrus poured him a beer as Alice patted him on the hand her stomach showing a small curve (not nearly as big as Snow's but noticeable), had Liam been in a better mood he would have stayed with them and talked and laughed and been a part of something just like the old days where he had been a part of something even if it was as a fifth wheel. But that was then and this was now and Liam found himself retreating to his office his phone on his desk waiting…always waiting for the phone call that she had gotten back to the apartment or to David's or to someone and she was waiting for him.

The phone call he wanted never came, instead at about two in the morning he got another one. A simple message from David.

Emma was back. With Henry.

And with Killian.

He got to Granny's to see Emma in deep conversation with her parents. Leroy too was also there looking like he really needed a stiff drink and a nap though to be fair that was usually what Leroy looked like. Killian was there too looking exhausted. He caught sight of his brother though and his smile was still the same and regardless of what was going on Liam found that he could smile back and let Killian pull him into a hug. He gripped back and burying his face in the harsh leather trying to say things that had never really come easily to him.

Words like this had never come easy to Killian and that meant that Liam knew that his brother understood the bone aching relief that they both felt at the other was ok.

"Where's Elsa?" Emma asked as they pulled apart. Liam shrugged. "Still nothing" he said to David shortly who sighed. Killian no doubt reading his face in that way Killian had always been able to do dug his fingers into Liam's shoulder.

"It's not just our memories that are gone. People are disappearing too. Elsa's not turned up yet, several other people are missing too…and so's Neal…"

Liam blinked. He had forgotten about Neal. He turned to face Killian who seemed to read whatever was on his face and nodded.

"We can regroup in the morning" he said shortly. "Granny's?"

"Yeah" Emma said smiling at him with a smile Liam had never seen before though it was not unexpected. Emma and Killian had been dancing around each other for a long time. High time Liam supposed for his brother to get over the wreckage that was whatever it was with Gold's wife and move on to a woman who actually wanted to be with him, loved him and saw him for who he was and not the villain she wanted.

As it turned out Liam had a dim view of Milah.

A very dim view.

They got outside but instead of heading to the ship Killian dithered.

"What?" Liam asked.

"Can we err…can we go to your place?" he asked looking more like the teenager Liam remembered him as than the infamous pirate captain of all time.

"Why what's wrong with the ship?"

"Well…err…that's the thing isn't it?"

"Killian" Liam said feeling a headache that for once had nothing to do with their present situation…or Elsa being missing.

"What did you do?"

Killian had the grace to look somewhat repentant…well…as much as Killian ever could.

Which was to say, not much.

It took her a second to wake up. For a moment. For an endless, everlasting moment she thought she was in her bed. Not her bed in her apartment, not her bed in which she was with Liam, not in Storybrooke or even in the Enchanted Forest but for that one second that seemed to stretch to an eternity she thought that she was curled up within the thick silk sheets of her bed in Arendelle and her bedcovers were icy blue embroidered in silver and her sister with her red hair out of the tight night-time plaits was about to crawl into the bed and press her cold feet up against Elsa's warm ones.

But when she opened her eyes she realised that she was somewhere entirely new.

She was staring up at thin bars almost like chicken wire and she was aware that her legs encased in the same jeans she had been wearing the day that Regina had cast her curse to take them to the Enchanted Forest, were pressed against the wire at an odd angle. Her hair she noticed was also loose and she was wearing the same top and jacket but her finger nails were crusted with dirt and she was shaking, her head pounding and what felt like dried blood on her head. Certainly she could feel something scraping off when she rubbed her head, sticking underneath her fingernails.

She sat upwards protesting inwardly at the ache in her shoulders and the throbbing in her head. Had she known known better she would have thought she was Ella again and she had gone back to her lonely apartment to watch Gilmore Girls and get drunk on cheap red wine.

As it was that was not the case.

Elsa opened her eyes and sat up looking around. She appeared to be in a cage in what looked like the derelict basement of some sort of house. She couldn't stand in the cage whatsoever but she could sit up leaning against the bars breathing in heavily.

And then she heard it.

It was a high pitched manic giggle and she turned blinking through the darkness to see the man half curled around the spinning wheel in the cage next to her.

She knew who it was before she saw him.

Gold.

Rumplestilskin.

"You feed on magic and it feeds on you" he cackled not taking his eyes of the gold that he was turning over in his hands from the straw at his feet. Elsa watched him. He was unshaven and he was dressed slovenly…for him anyway. He was wearing a black jacket coated in dust and an old shirt and trousers. Elsa thought he might be barefoot.

She shifted forwards touching the bars and reaching through. She tried to tap into the magic that had been ingrained in her since birth but she found that she could not. She had no magic, no access, no thrumming under her veins and in the back of her mind that she was aware off and when she thought about it her mind couldn't conjure up what she wanted. Indeed all she wanted at this point was to have a good nights sleep.

There was something wrong her.

Very, very wrong.

"Gold" she hissed reaching forwards through the bars to try and touch him.

"Gold what's going on? Is it Regina? Is…do you know where Liam is?"

Because she knew that wherever she was if Liam was not with her then Liam was looking for her. She knew that in the same all-encompassing way that she knew Liam. She knew him as she knew herself.

He was out there. He was alive. He was looking for her.

The door opened then and Elsa saw a brightness of light and white and what tasted on her tongue like snow before the light was extinguished and the one lightbulb hanging from the ceiling was all that she was able to see.

There was a silhouette of a woman standing there and Elsa squinted through the darkness her fingers curled around the bars watching, waiting.

"It's not Regina in charge here Your Majesty" came the sing song voice and Elsa saw a woman with red hair and green eyes come into the light. There was something about her that made her recoil backwards. Gold had stopped laughing, indeed he had stopped moving.

"She's evil. And I…I am wicked…and wicked always wins!"

And there you go, I added in the Wonderland cast as i think they were all characters that were criminally underused in this story (see some of the beginning chapters) and i hope you enjoy this one.

Next Chapter-The town live in fear of a Wicked Witch, Elsa is officially confirmed missing, Neal returns, Liam meets a red head with an odd looking necklace and as a murder hits the town Elsa will do anything to keep control of both her magic, and her mind.
