Author's note:
Heyo, Total Drama Fans! Welcome to a tale that will chill you to the bone and make you afraid to go swimming anytime soon...or maybe not. This is a TD fanfic, after all.
Essentially, this story is inspired by the classic movie Jaws. While I took the basic idea for Jaws for this story, the rest of the story is my idea. As you know, in Jaws it's just three men in a boat hunting a monster shark. In here, they'll be a lot more characters (because this is using Total Drama characters, after all), a bigger boat, and...yeah, a lot more death.
And in case you haven't figured out who the shark is in this story yet by the title well...it's Fang.
But enough from me. It's time to begin this tale. So strap in, get yourself a bigger boat, and be ready to watch characters you love get eaten by a mutant shark. Because not everyone will be making it out of this alive...including some big characters that you might not see coming. But that's a long way away. For now, let's set the stage...
A full moon shone brightly in the sky, shrouded only by the mists that usually hung around Boney Island. For the moment, everything seemed peaceful.
On the beach, two girls suddenly appeared, running through the sand towards the water. One was tall, thin, and dark skinned, while the other was shorter and fatter. Both wore identical bikinis.
"Oh my gosh, Sadie, this was a perfect idea!" the tall girl exclaimed. "There's no one on the beach!"
"I know, right?" the shorter girl, Sadie, agreed. "No one to bother us while we're swimming."
"Well, let's go!" the tall girl said, running into the water. Sadie followed, laughing.
Both girls began to swim out away from the beach, getting farther and farther away from shore.
"Oh, Katie, isn't this a perfect night to swim?" Sadie asked.
"Totally," Katie agreed. "But you know who would make this an even better night?"
"Justin," both girls sighed dreamily at the same time.
Little did the two girls know, however, that deep below them, something was swimming towards them. Something dangerous.
Suddenly, Sadie winced. "Are you kicking me, Katie?" she asked.
"You know I'd never kick you, bestie," Katie replied.
"Something's kicking me," Sadie told her.
"Well, it's not me."
Suddenly, Sadie was jerked underwater by an invisible force. "Sadie? Sadie?!" Katie called, swimming over to where her friend had vanished.
Something dark and red began rising to the surface. This was followed by a bloodied arm and a torn-up bikini.
Katie gasped in fear. She turned around and started swimming for the shore. Behind her, she could feel something chasing her in the water. Something that wasn't human.
She swam faster, her heart hammering in her chest in fear. Whatever was chasing her had just killed her friend and was coming to kill her now too. This only made her swim even faster.
Finally, she reached the beach once more. She threw herself onto the sand as far away from the water as she could, collapsing onto her back, panting and shivering in fear at what she had just experienced.
As she lay there, trying to calm herself down, a shadow fell over her. Katie opened her eyes to see who was there, hoping that it was somehow Sadie, still alive.
What she saw completely terrified her. For standing before her, teeth bared, was a shark. A shark with arms and legs standing right over her, grinning savagely.
Katie screamed.
The sun began to rise through the mist of Boney island as a flock of geese flew overhead.
Over at a nearby house, the door opened, and a teenage girl exited, closing the door silently behind her. She was pale and had black hair that had teal streaks running through it. She was dressed in all black, including long black boots that reached up to her knees.
As she headed for the sidewalk, a voice called out to her. "Gwen, wait up!" She turned around to see a boy her age running towards her. He had dark hair, green eyes, and a green shirt with a black handprint on it. He also carried a guitar on his back.
"Not so loud, Trent," Gwen told him as he stopped next to her. "My mom's still asleep."
"Right. Sorry. So, where're you heading?"
"The beach," Gwen replied. "I figured I could do a little sketching of the horizon today."
"Cool. Mind if I join you?"
"Don't you have to meet with that band of yours?"
"Who, the Drama Brothers?" Trent chuckled. "Our practice today got cancelled. Apparently, Justin hit his head on a door and got a bruise. He's still freaking out about how he's a "hideous circus freak" now."
Gwen scoffed as the two began walking towards the beach. "Why do you even keep him around? He can't do anything."
"Hey, he brings in the ladies to our gigs," Trent reminded her. "He's a literal chick magnet. Every girl on the island has a crush on him."
"Not all of us," Gwen muttered under her breath.
"Well, yeah, there is Sierra of course. But she comes anyway because she's obsessed with Cody."
"Ugh, don't remind me," Gwen shuddered. "If I have to watch her rub his feet one more time, I'm going to hurl."
"And Heather would like to pretend that she's not tempted by him, but she is. Izzy's just crazy—"
"I was talking about me," Gwen interrupted.
Trent smirked and shook his head. "One of these days, you're really going to have to get yourself a boyfriend."
"Like who? Cody? Owen? In case you haven't noticed, there aren't that many boys on this island that are tolerable."
"And despite that, you're still willing to hang out with me."
"That's because unlike the rest of the people here, you're actually someone worth talking too," Gwen said, playfully swatting his arm.
Trent laughed. "Well, I suppose that's true."
They were approaching the beach now, with the sun's rays reflecting over the mist, turning the sky a dark red.
"It's beautiful," Trent breathed as they both sat down on the rocky shelf above the sand.
"It's always beautiful this time of morning," Gwen said, pulling out a sketchbook and beginning to sketch the horizon.
"Yeah, I can tell," Trent said, glancing down at Gwen's sketchbook and seeing more sketches of hers, including one of himself.
"When did you do that one?" he asked, pointing at the one of him.
Gwen slammed her book shut. "Can't you keep your eyes to yourself?" she asked, irritated.
Trent raised his hands in defense. "Sorry. Just curious. You have to admit, you're an amazing artist."
"Why do you think I'm planning on going to art school?" Gwen cautiously opened her book again and went back to sketching.
Trent was about to comment again about her drawing skills when something caught his eye on the beach. "Hey, check it out," he said, jumping off the shelf onto the sand and pointing towards what he had seen. From his perspective, it looked like a matted lump of something.
Gwen frowned, but followed him as they approached the object on the beach. "What is it?" she asked.
The two stopped over the object. And that's when Gwen realized what it was.
"Oh my God," she breathed, backing away in shock.
Lying in front of them was the tattered, bloodied remains of a corpse. Half the body was gone, torn at the waist, and the intestines were spread out all over. The tattered remains of a bikini were also on the ground, caked with dried blood. But the worst part of it was that the face was familiar to both of them.
"Is that…Katie?" Gwen asked.
Trent didn't answer. He just turned around and vomited.
Gwen just stared at the body of their classmate. In her life, there wasn't a lot that could faze her. But this…seeing Katie's remains like this, strewn out everywhere…it filled her with a sense of dread and fear.
Something had killed her. And whatever it was…wasn't human.
Alive: Fang, Gwen, Trent
Dead: Katie, Sadie
And so it begins. Two dead, and we haven't even gotten to the cruise yet. As shown above, I'll be keeping a running tally of which characters are dead and which are alive as they are introduced. So while some characters, such as the Drama Brothers, have been mentioned, they haven't appeared yet. When they do, they'll be added to the list. And as to why Katie and Sadie were the first to die, well...let's just say they were easy picks.
Yeah, there's going to be a lot of set up for the actual cruise that we're going to have to get through first. But all for the sake of making this story better!
I hope I do okay with bringing the TD characters to life here. In my previous TD fanfics it's been pretty much all OCs of mine, as I was afraid of completely messing up the characters. But now, at this point, with one completed fanfic under my belt, I decided to challenge myself. Plus, this was such an awesome idea that I couldn't resist.
Before you ask, I can confirm to you right now that it'll only be the 1st generation cast featured in this story. While it's extremely tempting to throw Scott in because of his history with Fang, well...I'm just going to leave it at that.
Also throughout the story, I'm going to be putting some concepts from the series just to give it more of the Total Drama feel. I'll be mixing these with a few Jaws references too, since that movie is what this story is inspired by. I hope you'll enjoy them.
I think that's about it. Make sure to hit that favorite/follow button to stay informed on updates, and drop a review every now and then so I know how I'm doing. Until next time, this is Guest 1138, reminding you to never swim in the ocean at night. Ciao!
