ANCESTORS
"What do you thing took them"Bilbo said still holding the soup bowls.
"Well as our official Burglar I think this would be your area of expertise." Fili said stepping away from the up-rooted tree so Bilbo could have a look.
"Well...I would say something large...very large and possibly quite dangerous." Bilbo said scratching his head.
"That was out thinking." Fili stated rolling his eyes. Honestly!
"Look." Kili said pointing towards a light. I could smell something worse now.
"Trolls." I said growling slightly.
"T-trolls." Bilbo said sounding very nervous.
Just then one of the troll came lumbering past us caring two ponies. As we hid behind the trees keeping out of sight I felt an arm snake around my waist. Oh gods it was Kili. I could feel my cheeks burning up.
"They've got minty and myrtle. We've got to do something." Bilbo said seeming to gain a bit of confidence.
"Yes you should." Fili said. Uh oh.
"N-no. No..."
"It's okay trolls are slow and stupid and you're so small and quick. They'll never even notice you." Fili said as Bilbo shook his head the whole time.
"If you run into trouble hoot twice like a barn owl and once like a brown owl." Kili said grabbing my hand and pulling me away. I didn't really have much of a choice on the matter. Gods he was strong.
"Where are we going?" I asked impatiently.
"To tell Thorn." Fili said exasperatedly.
Oh they are in trouble!
As we ran up the last hill a few faces turned to us looking slightly worried. Thorin on the other hand just looked grumpy. Like he always does. Grumpy the dwarf. Nah that's a stupid name for a dwarf.
"Ponies...Bilbo...troll...rescue." Fili managed to choked out as he gasped for air. Thorin looked totally pissed off like he knew something like this would happen. I would have been less worried if Rose wasn't taking a bath in river in the forest.
"Rose! She doesn't know!" I said running off.
"Cara! Wait. You don't even know how to kill a troll." Kili said running behind me, as we're the others.
"Well there's no time like the present." I say turning into my wolf and taking if towards the trolls. I was soon followed by the rest of the company caring there weapons. As they went off to save Bilbo I turned to go and find Rose. I pushed myself to move faster, hoping and praying she was alright. As I reached the river I passed back into my human form and I looked up and down the river. But I could see nothing. No this couldn't be happening I can't have lost her already.
"Cara?" Turning round a was met; thankfully; by a fully clothed Rose.
"Oh thank the stars." I said pulling her in a bear hug trapping her arms. Yuck wet hair in face.
"Cara? Is everything alright." She asked furrowing her eyebrows. Ha everything alright. When is it ever?
"No. Trolls took the ponies, Bilbo went after the trolls and the Dwarves went after Bilbo." I said releasing her from my grip.
"So in short, my help is required?"
"Yes come on." I replied add we ran off to help the dwarves.
As we approached the troll camp we could here arguing and shouting.
"He's right nothing wrong with a bit of raw dwarf. Nice and crunchy." Peeping through the bushes we could see, to our horror, a troll was about to eat or Bomber.
"No not that one he's infected. He's got...worms...in his tube." The next thing you know Bomber goes flying through the air landing on done of the others.
"Y'what?"
"They've all got parasites. It's a nasty business. I really wouldn't risk it." Bilbo was doing a fine job at stalling the trolls but that wouldn't last long. They're stupid but not that slow. The dwarves didn't seem to catch on to what Bilbo was doing which didn't help at all.
"I've not got parasites, you've got parasites." They shouted out in anguish. Rose and I couldn't help but giggle a little. Even Fili was trying to bite poor Bilbo's ankles. He rolled his eyes like the little drama queen he was and looked as though he had given up.
"OK enough's enough. Let's go help them. You stay here. I'll go around the other side." I whispered to Rose. I kept low and quiet as I snuck over to the dwarves. As I did so I could see some of them were tied to a spit. Poor things. Dwalin looked ever so disheartened.
"Thorin will you shut them up. Bilbo's trying to stall them for goodness sake." I whispered to him. He quickly turned to me, shock written on his face. Once he realised I was right he kicked as many of them in the back as he could at once. They all shut for up for a second before yelling out.
"I've got the biggest parasites!"
"I've got parasites as long as my arm!" I tried my best not to laugh and blow my cover.
"You think I don't know what you're up to? This little ferret is taking us for fools. " Bilbo didn't seem to like this accusation but non the less they are in for need of some help. I looked to Rose and nodded. We jumped out of our hiding places and phased into our wolves.
Trying to look intimidation to a troll is more difficult than it seems. Yes we're as tall as the dwarves in wolf form but...I mean...a troll is pretty damn big. We growled circling the beasts as they cowered before us. Well two of them were. The third was searching for a weapon but Rose cut him off. We had them surrounded...now what?
"THE DAWN WILL TAKE YOU." I heard Gandalf shout from a tall rock. His staff shattered it in two and sunlight came gushing into the clearing. He may be a grumpy wizard but you've got to give him credit for timing. The trolls seized up and the skin quickly hardend and turned to stone.
"Oh will you get your foot out ma back!" Dwalin shouted out wriggling in the ropes. Rose started giggling like a child which in turn made me laugh and it was just never ending spiral of laughing and trying not fall over. But the dwarves just looked on in confusion as our wolves grunted and yelped on the floor. We phased out of our wolves still trying to catch our breath.
"Well I'm glad you find it funny." Dwalin said as Gandalf cut the dwarves down from the spit. But there was still a bad smell in the air. And it wasn't the trolls...or the dwarves for that matter.
I walked the direction it was coming from and I unsheathed my sword. I quickly and quietly snuck away from the group. If was something dangerous I needed to keep them safe.
It took two minutes but I found it. The troll hoard. It stunk like a dead animal. I covered my nose and mouth and walked down into the cave. What I saw could turn anyone's hair white. Skeletons. But not just any skeletons! Wolfblood skeletons!
Skulls and ribs scattered around the floor. I could here the remnants of their cries, their howls of pain. I sunk to the floor clutching my ears. I couldn't stay in there. My ears were ringing and I'm pretty sure my wolf was crying. I screamed trying to rid myself of the pain but it only worsened. My chest grew tight and just as I didn't think I could take any more, arms were wrapped around me and they hauled me out and away from the cave. I collapse on the forest floor sobbing like a child. I heard Kili whispering 'It's alright, You're ok' to me as he gently held onto my should and stroked the side of my head. I lower my hands and look up through my tear coved lashes.
"I could hear them screaming." I choked out as my body shook with sobs.
"Who?" Fili asked as he came over to stand beside us holding a shivering Rose.
"The wolves." I said standing. Kili followed suit and brushed his hand on my arm but saw I didn't need help. I wasn't really one for showing weakness but I've only ever heard stories of this happening. Gandalf was standing at the entrance to cave with the two skulls.
Rose was transfixed. I could see she never experienced eoles before. Her hands reach up to her head pulling at clumps of hair.
Quickly she was turned away into Fili's chest and he wrapped an arm around her. I'm glad she has someone to comfort her. I was in no fit state.
"It's the eolas that connects wolfbloods to their pack. We can hear the cries of our dead. They must have been tortured." I say walking closer to the skulls in Gandalfs hands.
"Are you sure you should be going near them again?" Kili said reaching for my arm.
"I have to know who they were. I need to know what happened." Most of the Dwarves were now digging through the treasure and taking the weapons. I reached for the skulls and Gandalf placed them gently in my hands. He gave a me a look that said be careful. I wasn't sure if it was a good idea.
I saw that Kili had followed me and began picking up the ribs. I smiled appreciatively and walked away from the cave. I presumed the other bones must have been taken or were buried.
I sat cross legged on the leafy floor and gently put the skulls to the left of me. I placed my left hand on the skulls and pushed my fingers into the ground connecting with the forest.
Kili's POV
She was still for a second pressing her hand into the forest floor.
Then her eyes snapped open and their beautiful hazel colour had been replaced by a golden sheen. Her eyes flickered from leaf to leaf as if she was searching for something.
"Can't be." she whispered. I wished I could help her. I didn't want her to be in pain but her pride won't let me help. She twitched as as she moved her head at different angles as if she could see something we couldn't.
"What can you see?" Rose said crouching in front of her sister. Cara's hand shook slightly as Rose took them in her own.
"Cara what can you see?" Rose asked again. Cara lifted her head and but here eyes were the same golden colour.
"Desolation." A voice voice said that definitely didn't sound like the gentle girl I knew. That very moment Cara let rip a scream that would shake even the most hardy of people.
