A Howl in the Night

Writer's Note: This was an idea that had been on my mind for a while now and I know it probably might not really make that much sense, I could always try right? This story might seem kinda weird but I hope you like it anyway. (Rated for slight bloodshed)

Prologue

The sound of clashing Keyblades echoed loudly through the air as Sora and his friends fought against the growing number of Heartless within Twilight Town. They were thankful that many of the citizens had taken run for shelter or had taken cover during the attack. While the past few days had been uneventful since the defeat of Young Xehanort, they had been surprised to find more Heartless had begun to appear within the town. It was only when they had started the battle, that they had noticed many of the Heartless were very much unlike the ones they had faced before.

One by one, the Heartless attacked. Sora, Riku, Roxas, Xion, and Kairi sliced at them with their Keyblades, while Axel used his Chakrams and Isa used his Claymore, making them vanish into clouds of black smoke. They wondered how many more of the worlds had been effect by the Heartless' return and if they would once again be needed to travel between worlds once again. As they continued their fight, Roxas didn't notice as one of the wolf-like Heartless leap at him from behind.

"Roxas!"

Roxas spun around just in time to see the Heartless. As Roxas brought his arm up, Axel had leapt protectively in front of him, summoning his Flame Liberator Keyblade and knocking the beast away. However, just as he was about to shout something to Roxas, another of the wolf Heartless leapt upon him, sinking its sharp teeth deep into his shoulder!

"AXEL!"

Axel however only gritted his teeth as he took hold of the creature's body in a tight death grip.

"Get.. OFF!"

With a flash of light, his hands gleamed brightly as burning fire erupted from Axel's hands. The Heartless made a loud screeching wail as it writhed in Axel's grip, slowly disintegrating into a powdery black smoke.

Axel was breathing rather heavily as he slowly got to his feet, the use of his fire magic having surprisingly taken quite a bit out of him. Ignoring the pain and still feeling a bit lightheaded, Axel readied his weapon as more Heartless began to appear. The friends managed to avoid the attacks as they continued their fight against the Heartless. Another of the wolf Heartless lunged at them. As Kairi managed to leap back and slashed at it with her Keyblade, more appeared in its place.

"There's too MANY!" Kairi shouted.

"C'mon, we can take these punks!" Axel assured, readying his weapon. "We're in this together right?"

Kairi turned to look at him and soon smiled with a nod, to which he smiled back with a nod of his own. The two soon turned back toward the growing threat as Sora and the others them as their battle began anew.

With the last Heartless defeated, Axel collapsed to his knees, painfully gripping his arm. Roxas and the others soon hurried to his side.

"Axel! Are you alright?" said Sora.

Axel winced as he glanced up.

"Yeah.. J-just a scratch.." he replied.

Roxas looked on in concern as he saw Axel's right shoulder was torn up and had begun to bleed through the tattered material of his cloak.

"Axel.. Y-you.."

Axel turned to look at him.

"What, you think I was gonna let some stupid Heartless get you?"

Axel chucked only to have it dissolve into a grunt of pain as he gripped his shoulder.

"That thing got me good.."

"Axel, we should get that taken care of," Sora frowned. "We don't know what that-"

"Sora, it's fine.." Axel replied rolling his eyes. "I've been through worse, Remember?"

"Yeah but-"

"No buts, Sora," Axel replied. "We all know how this is going to go. Besides that," he continued. "There's nothing a Mega-potion can't fix, right?"

Sora opened his mouth to protest but soon closed it again and sighed.

"Anyway, how about we get some Sea-Salt ice cream to get our minds off this whole thing?"

With that said, Axel began to head off toward the Clock Tower.

"Hey! Wait UP!" Sora shouted.

He took off after him with the others in tow as they made their way toward the Clock Tower.
