Although Harry visited his cousin Dudley Dursley on a semi-normal basis, they rarely talked to each other. They were content to just watch or listen to something while their children played together.
However this visit, was different. Harry and his family had arrived for the 11th birthday party of Dudley's daughter Harriette, and things started out normal, until Dudley asked to speak with him privately.
"What's wrong?" Harry asked his cousin when they were alone.
Dudley looked very nervous. He took a breath to calm his nerves. "Harriette's a witch."
Harry's eyes grew wide. He was almost certain that his mother's magical genes would never be able to get past his hateful uncle's DNA.
"Unexpected, I know." Dudley stated when he saw Harry's reaction, "But she just got her Hogwarts letter. So, she must be, right?"
Harry found himself nodding. Hogwarts had never let a muggle or squib enroll, so, Harriette had to be a witch. "She'll be in the same year as Lily."
Dudley nodded. That was good. "So, she'll look after her, right? I mean, she's a Dursley. I'm sure it's well known how my parents treated you," The reformed bully looked very ashamed as he continued, "and how I used to treat you."
Harry couldn't help but pity him. He had really changed his ways, and reputations were hard to shake at Hogwarts. He knew from personal experience. "It will be hard for her, and I can't promise to make the bullies go away, but, I can make sure the kids and some of the professors look after her."
Dudley felt grateful, something he only began feeling after the Dementor attack. "Thanks Harry. I really appreciate it."
Harry couldn't help but smile. His cousin had truly come a long way. "You're welcome. And I'm free next weekend. I can take you all to Diagon Alley with me and my kids to get her school supplies."
Dudley lit up again. "That's be great. I can make it, uh come here at noon?"
"Sure." Harry answered, feeling both happy and awkward at the same time.
