Hera had reached out to them. Omega was glad that she had been able to contact them, especially since she was in so much trouble now. Omega might have only just met her but she was already her friend.
But when she contacted them, Omega was also worried. She didn't want her new friend to be hurt. And Omega found out that things weren't going well. As soon as she had reached out to them, she knew that it would be the case. She probably would only want to contact them if there had been a horrible emergency.
And that was what had happened.
Her parents had been captured by the Empire. It hadn't even been easy to convince the others that they should go back and then help. Hunter told her that it was impossible to help everyone.
But Omega wanted to help as many people as she possibly could. When Omega and Hera came up with their own plan, Hunter agreed that they would help. He liked Omega and Hera's idea!
And they had done it. They had rescued Hera's parents. Hera got to fly too.
"You're an amazing pilot," Omega said going over to her friends when the adults were talking.
"Your brother Tech didn't seem to think so," Hera said but she grinned. "I think he thinks I'm a horrible pilot, but I just need a little bit of practice, and I thought I was going good for a first time."
Omega doubted that her first time would be nearly that good. Tech might be afraid of her flying. They all might be.
Well Omega wouldn't and if Hera ended up flying with them, she wouldn't be afraid of it either. She was so brave. Omega knew that she was too, but she was in Clone Force 99 and so she had to be.
And Omega was still afraid of some things, even though she tried not to think of being a test subject and getting caught by the bounty hunters.
Omega shrugged. "He doesn't get certain things. But I thought you did good. No one hit us."
And that was one of the most important parts of flying.
"You did great," Omega said. Now she was wanting to fly herself. "How did it feel?"
"It felt amazing. Like what I was meant to do," Hera was all smiles when she said this. "I can't wait to get better. I want to be as good as I can possibly be." She sighed dreamily at the thought of it.
"One day you'll even have your own ship," Omega said. It probably wouldn't even be that long from now. What kind of ship would she get? Probably something really amazing and cool. One that she would be able to use to fly wherever she wanted. Maybe Hera would even fight against the Empire.
If Omega closed her eyes, she could almost see Hera in her own ship and fighting against the Empire. It seemed like it was what was meant to happen.
Hera nodded and grinned.
"You'll have to visit when I get my own ship," Hera said.
"I will," Omega said.
"Maybe you can even fly with me. Maybe we can travel the Galaxy for awhile together," Hera said, her eyes were bright. "I'm going to see everything. Wouldn't you like to see everything out there too?"
And Omega believed that. Flying was already so important to Hera. Omega didn't have any hobby like that. She wasn't in love with any of her hobbies. She didn't have anything she excelled at besides strategy. All the other members of Clone Force 99 had things that they were experts in.
"It'll be amazing," Hera said. "And it would be even better to have a friend with me."
Omega nodded but she didn't think she would ever leave the Bad Batch. Actually, she knew that she never would. Maybe she would fly with Hera for awhile one day, but she would always come back to Clone Force 99. They were her brothers and she was meant to be with them. Every day she felt more and more like she belonged. Her home was with them. She really felt like she was a member of Clone Force 99 and not just some kid who went with them.
Despite everything that was happening, Omega was happy now. Yes she was still worried about what the Kaminoans would do to her, but she trusted that she wouldn't get caught. Not with the others here. She had family which she never thought she would. She was lucky in some ways.
In a lot of ways.
But there was something else that she wanted. That she was curious about. She knew that she probably shouldn't be and should just be happy with everything, she had but still. She just couldn't help it.
Omega didn't even know how to mention this to Hunter. She didn't want him to think she was betraying everyone. She would never do something like that.
But there was just someone she wanted to meet. She tried to come up with a good plan to ask him but she couldn't come up with something.
"Omega, what's wrong?" Hunter asked once they had been back at Cid's for awhile. She had been so distracted that she had almost lost a game. Now she wasn't doing anything and was staring off into space.
"Nothing," Omega said.
"I'm sure Hera and her family will okay," Hunter said. "Her father's a general. Her family will be okay."
"I know," Omega said. Hera wouldn't let anything happen to her family. She might be a kid like Omega but still.
"Then what's going on? Are you worried about the bounty hunters?" Hunter asked. "I'm not going to let them get you. None of us are going to let them hurt you, Omega."
"I'm… no," Omega said. Yes she was worried but it wasn't the first thing in her thoughts right now. Though sometimes at night she would think about this over and over again. "It's something else."
Omega paused. "I heard Tech and Echo talking."
"About what?" Hunter asked glancing over at them.
"Jango and Boba Fett," Omega said. "I know Jango Fett is dead but…"
"Boba Fett isn't but I don't think anyone knows where he is," Hunter said, filling it in for her. She hadn't been entirely sure that Boba Fett was alive, but not she had that confirmation.
"I… I sort of want to meet him," Omega said. She didn't want to leave the Bad Batch but she still wanted to meet another person who was like her. In a way, Boba Fett was like a brother to her.
"Omega… are you sure that's a good idea?" Hunter asked. "He…"
"You don't think he would want anything to do with me?" Omega asked, cringing at the thought. Maybe he wouldn't want anything to do with her. He had apparently been raised by Jango Fett and she hadn't been.
"He's a fool if he doesn't," Hunter said. "You're the best sister."
"I'm your only sister." Omega blinked.
"It doesn't matter," Hunter said. He looked over at Wrecker. "Isn't Omega the best little sister?"
"For sure," Wrecker said as he came over and gave her some mantel mix.
She took a couple bites.
"We can try and find him eventually," Hunter said. "If that's what you really want."
"Find who?" Wrecker asked.
"Boba Fett," Hunter said. "He's the one who…" At first Omega thought he would say was like her, but he didn't. "He's probably not as cool as us. He probably doesn't even like to blow things up."
"There is no way that he is as cool as you all. As all of us," Omega said. It just wasn't possible that he could be as good as her brothers because they were the best. Yes, Boba Fett was her brother too, but… well, she had no idea what he would be like. It wasn't like all clones had liked Omega. So far mostly just Clone Far 99 and Rex.
"Yeah," Wrecker said.
"We'll still help you find him if that's important to you," Hunter said. "But it might take awhile and…"
And they had to try and lie somewhat down low. If the Kaminoans couldn't find Boba Fett than he had to be keeping a low profile too. They might never be able to find him. That would be sad and yet…
Omega would still have Clone Force 99 so she would be okay, right?
It would just be nice to meet another Clone that didn't have accelerated aging and who also might have to worry about the Kaminoans.
"We should warn him about Kamino," Omega said. "Once we find him. That way…" That way they wouldn't get him. No one should have to be an experiment. Omega thought more about how horrible that would be than the actual bounty hunters catching her. She didn't want to end up in a test tube. She didn't want to be treated like that.
It would be better to die.
One she had thought about telling Hunter, Wrecker, Echo, and Tech about her fears, but they wouldn't understand. Or maybe they would, but it would make them more worried about her. She doubted that they were ever afraid.
At least not very often. They were so brave, and she wanted to be exactly like them if she could.
"We will," Hunter said, ruffling her hair. "But like I said, it could take awhile to find him. It's possible that we won't even find him. You won't be upset if that happens."
Omega paused but then nodded. "No, I know it might." But part of her would be disappointed.
Did Boba Fett even know that she existed? Probably not since she hadn't known about him.
"But we'll probably find him eventually," Hunter said.
Omega smiled weakly and nodded and then hugged Hunter and then Wrecker.
"And don't worry, there is no way that I'm going to leave you all," Omega said. "I want to stay with all of you." That was where she was meant to be after all.
"Good because nothing would be the same without you," Echo said as he came over to Tech.
Tech nodded.
"It would be boring without you," Wrecker said. "The others aren't as fun."
"Really Wrecker?" Tech asked as he worked on his datapad. "Blowing things up—"
"Blowing things up is great and it's good that Omega appreciates that."
Omega grinned.
"You're stuck with us, kid," Hunter said.
And somehow they made her smile even wider than before.
