***Hello, everyone! So this chapter wound up being a lot more introspective than I meant it to be. But it still got the plot moving. I own nothing, and let's go!

Chapter Seven: Emotions

The days that followed seemed to blend together moreso than normal for Light. He clung to one thing that L consistently told him, day after day.

The number of days left until his treatment began.

His intellect wasn't quite what it was a few years ago, but even a moron knew that being electrocuted over and over, regardless of the specifics, held risks. The rest of L's words barely got through to Light as the days slowly ticked down.

With four days now left, the young man was beginning to wonder if something going wrong would benefit him. Something going wrong enough to where he could finally be done with life.

But when L came in with Misa, his yearning for the afterlife was all at once forgotten.

L glanced at the clock for the fifth time now, it seemed. He'd arranged for Misa to come meet up with and spend some quality time with Light. They'd both agreed on a time that had been reasonable. And yet, here she was, running late.

L internally sighed. He'd noticed Light's regression as the date of the beginning of his treatment drew closer and closer. So, he'd decided to give the young man a nice surprise. L had originally contacted the Yagami family to update them on his treatment plan; their mixed reactions of worry and disdain had been more than enough of a reason for L to turn to Misa to comfort Light.

She was more than worried for him after hearing his fate, but she could at least act convincingly enough otherwise. Speak of the devil, the bubbly blonde finally arrived. "I'm sorry I'm late. I didn't expect the traffic to be this bad," she apologized.

However, L just began walking towards his destination. "Due to institution regulations, I'll have to be with you and Light in his room. Although his mobility had improved overall, if you want to move him from his favorite corner, you'll have to help him," he explained.

Misa, who walked behind him, raised an eyebrow. "A corner? Doesn't he have a bed?" she asked. "He does, but he prefers the back-right corner of his room. Also, he can communicate through sign language. He might say a word, but given his recent regression, I doubt that will happen today."

After a few more minutes, the two came to a stop outside of Light's room. "Do you have any questions?" L asked. "I just want to be with Light," Misa said. So, L opened the door.

Light was in his corner, barely looking awake. However, his rust-colored eyes widened slightly when he realized that it wasn't just his therapist visiting him today. Tears welled in Misa's eyes as she sat next to her boyfriend, the months of longing for him coming back to her mind. Light slowly raised his hand as her tears began to fall, his thumb wiping away her sorrows.

"I waited for you, Light... I missed you more than I could ever say..." Misa said, smiling. Light embraced her, even if his arms were a bit limp around her.

L was no expert, but from where he was sitting on the opposite end of the room, that seemed to be Light's way of saying that he felt the same.

Misa wound up staying the full day. She didn't have the perfect understanding of sign language, but she understood enough to where she wasn't just having a one-sided conversation with Light. She'd talked as if they were on another date, telling him how things were going with work and treating him as affectionately as always.

Light had listened with fondness faintly glimmering in his eyes. He'd gently held onto Misa the whole time. When they were sitting in the floor, his arms rests gently around her, his thin fingers tracing lazy patterns on her stomach when he wasn't signing.

When they have moved to the bed to lay down at some point later in the day, there was no better feeling than Misa's head as a soft weight on Light's chest. He recognized the scent of her blonde hair beneath his nose, and he liked it.

Truth be told, if Light had been asked what he'd been rambled go about all day, he probably wouldn't have been able to answer. He was just glad to be feeling the warm contentment, the lingering happiness he felt with Misa fitting against his body.

When she finally had to leave, it was certainly bittersweet. However, L barely even reacted. Come to think of it, he'd barely reacted to anything throughout the day.

It wasn't as if Light wasn't exactly focused on him, but he knew that most people would've had some sort of reaction to a loving couple reuniting after so long apart. As he curled up for the night in his corner, long after he'd been left alone for the night, he wondered at the back of his muddled mind just what kind of a background the person helping him came from.

He'd never been so interested in any of his previous therapists. But, then again, none of his past therapists had ever been as intent on curing him as L was.
