Chapter One: Welcome to Beacon!

"Shit! I'm gonna be late!" A teen boy yelled as he was skateboarding down the city of Vale in the direction of the airship docks. The teen had milk chocolate coloured skin along with blue hair that was styled into locs that were picked up by the wind (not dreadlocks, those are different believe it or not ?) as well as shimmering emerald green coloured eyes that had black slightly slitted pupils in them.

On top of his head was a blue eye mask that had a black rim around it and had stars placed where the eyes would be positioned, one being grey the other being red. He was wearing a blue sleeveless coat that had black lining and black stars as buttons on it as well as a long coat tail that was black on the inside.

He also had blue detached sleeves that started from his mid-bicep and stopped at his hands and had a pattern of black flames on the ends of them. His lower apparel consisted of black baggy combat pants that were held up by a red belt that had a grey ring-like buckle, and were also tucked into black combat boots that had blue soles.

He also had rope slung across his torso that was holding his weapon that was hanging behind the boy. The weapon consisted of a blue sheath that had black flame patterns at each end with a trigger on it and a blue hilt, the pommel had a red dust crystal infused in it as well as a short chain that dangled off it. At the end of the chain was a blue emblem that looked like a four pointed star that had a small explosion like shape in the middle of it. The skateboard was a bright blue that had a red outer rim with black wheels and a red version of the star emblem on the top and underside of the board. He was also holding a few bags of luggage as well.

'I can't be late! Not on my first day!' The teen thought to himself as he was speeding down Vale, narrowly avoiding and dodging people as well as a cat! 'And why didn't any of them wake me up dammit!'

Flashback:

"You're growing up, learn to wake up on your own!" A woman scolded. "I told RJ and Ama not to wake you up."

"Come on, Ma! Shouldn't you be considerate here?!" The teen protested to his mom.

"Do you really have time to argue with me, Reth?"

The now named Reth simply growled and ran out grabbing his skateboard and rocketed himself out of the house.

Flashback end

'Why does she have to be difficult….' Reth asked in his head as he finally reached his destination and boarded the bullhead after loading his luggage and picking up his board before he went to find a seat so that he could catch his breath. He spotted a place that wasn't occupied by anyone and was away from the crowd, he sat down pulled his eye mask down and laid back with his hands behind his head and began to lightly doze off.

….

..

.

"Oh, I can't believe my baby sister is going to Beacon with me! This is the best day ever!" Reth grumbled at the sudden sound and raised the right side of his eye mask to see what the fuss was. He saw that a blonde girl was hugging, or rather crushing the air out of, a smaller black haired girl who had a red cloak.

'Doesn't she look a bit too young?' Reth thought.

"Please stop," the black haired girl gasped, realising she was crushing her sister. The blonde released the smaller girl and continued to talk.

"But I'm so proud of you!" The blonde spoke.

"Really Sis it was nothing." After that Reth lowered his eye mask and just tried going back to dreamland but the sisters he spotted earlier were still talking, something about knees?

"Of course I'm excited…. I just… *sigh* I got moved two years ahead. I don't want people to think I'm special or something."

'Two years? So she's RJ's age…. Impressive,' Reth thought to himself drowning out the other conversation with his thoughts. He then heard a news report, something about the White Fang and protests, causing him to frown. 'They're not the same White Fang that Mom and Dad respected….'

The feed is then interrupted by a different voice, "Hello, and welcome to Beacon." Reth recognised the voice as the woman that was with Ozpin when he met him and was offered a place at Beacon. He decided to raise the right part of his eye mask once again to look at the hologram.

"Who's that?" The blonde asked.

"My name is Glynda Goodwitch."

"Oh."

"You are among a privileged few who have received the honor of being selected to attend this prestigious academy! Our world is experiencing an incredible time of peace, and as future Huntsmen and Huntresses, it is your duty to uphold it. You have demonstrated the courage needed for such a task, and now it is our turn to provide you with the knowledge and the training to protect our world." The hologram then disappeared.

'So she's gonna act like the White Fang doesn't exist? Crazy," Reth thought to himself before hearing cries of surprise and awe at the view from the ship. 'You fly and see views like this once, you've seen it a thousand times,' Reth shrugged before looking out the window to his side and seeing Shield Academy as well as Cose City and smiled slightly.

'Though it's good to know home isn't too far away…. Maaaaan I can't wait to see all kinds of semblances!'

"Beacon's our home now," Reth heard the blonde girl say before he stopped looking out the window and then he heard groaning before he fully put his mask down. He looked to see another blonde passenger run to the back of the ship. Reth pulled his eye mask above his forehead before getting something from his bag.

'Motion sickness, my old nemesis,' Reth got up, picked his skateboard up and went to where the other passenger was. When he saw him, Reth pulled out a brown sick bag and tapped the hunching guy's shoulder with it. The blonde looked up to see Reth with the sick bag in his hand gesturing him to take it.

"Yoo-hoo. Here's a sick bag," Reth offered with a bright expression on his face. The blonde took the bag and began letting his lunch go. "Motion sickness is a bitch, init." The blonde briefly stopped throwing up and nodded before going back to the deed. After filling the bag the blonde finally stopped and held the bag in his right hand at the top.

"Thanks, I needed that, though I don't think I'm done," the blonde stated.

"Don't sweat it, G," Reth responded while waving one hand while the other was on his hips, holding his skateboard. "I have issues with transport myself but I take medicine to help me sometimes, here you can have one though we will be landing soon." Reth offered a tablet packet from out of his pocket, the blonde raised his hand and shook his head.

"No thank you, since we're getting off soon anyways," Reth nodded in understanding and pocketed the tablet. The blonde seemingly regretted immediately as he began getting sick again but noticed the sick bag was full, he then looked back at Reth who shook his head.

"Don't have any more bags, sorry, just hold on."

Line break

Once the airship landed the blonde made a beeline for the nearest trash can with Reth calmly emerging from the ship, skateboard in hand and smiled as he was admiring the sight of Beacon as he was walking to the Vomit Boy. 'This looks like a great place! I can't wait to board all around this place!' Reth thought to himself as he placed his hand on the blonde's back and began rubbing it up and down to try and comfort the boy.

"No homo by the way," Reth clarified to the hunched over teen who gave a thumbs up as a response. "Man, forget the Grimm, motion sickness is the true hidden enemy of mankind."

"What are you doing?!"

Reth turned his head to the direction of the shouting before he smiled again and let go of the Vomit boy's back and walked to see the origin of the shout. 'Something interesting is happening, let's see this,' Reth had a knack for being drawn to arguments or negative conversations in general and just see how'd they turn out before involving himself if needs be. 'It's not like I can help it. So why fight against it?'

Reth arrived to see the red cloaked girl from earlier being overwhelmed by a white haired girl that wore a white dress with a white jacket on top, holding a vial of red dust.

"Are you brain dead? Dust! Fire, water, lightning, energy!" The white haired girl lectured. Reth squinted and saw some dust seep out before he widened his eyes back and sighed. He then put on his smile once more and began walking over to the two girls.

"I *cough* I know…." the red cloak said as she began coughing from the Dust pouring into her face, seeing this Reth slightly increased his pace to the girls.

"Are you even listening to me? Is any of this sinking in? What do you have to say for yourself?!" The white haired girl continued, failing to notice that the red cloak was about to sneeze. However, Reth quickly swiped the vial from the white haired girl and placed his hand in front of both the girls before the sneeze. This resulted in a small harmless explosion happening on the back of Reth's held up hand due to the little Dust that did remain, the blue haired teen saw his hand and some of his skateboard was covered in soot and began laughing confusing the girls before he calmed down.

"Aww man, at least it's not snot," Reth chuckled out before shaking his hand causing the soot to disappear.

"I'm really, really sorry!" The red cloaked girl apologised, looking embarrassed. Reth just kept his smile and waved dismissively before he noticed something. 'Silver eyes…. I know her….'

"It's minor, don't worry bout it," Reth said before he placed the vial-holding hand at his hip before looking up slightly. "Though if I was a second late you would've probably created a crater or something." The red cloak cringed at that while Reth shrugged his shoulders.

"What are you doing?!" The white-clad girl asked furiously. Reth then held out the vial to the white haired girl, showing her the crack in the vial and handing it back to her.

"Saving you from your own Dust it seems, princess," Reth answered.

"It's heiress actually."

The trio turned to see who the voice belonged to, well Reth just bent himself back to see a pale skinned girl with black hair and a black bow on her head. Reth stood up and looked at the new girl properly and got a look at her more, his gaze falling onto her gold eyes.

"I guess I'm running into some beauties today, huh, not that I'm complaining," Reth mumbled to himself, keeping a neutral face, though Weiss heard him and blushed slightly.

"Weiss Schnee, heiress to the Schnee Dust Company, one of the largest producers of energy propellant in the world," the black haired girl continued,

"Finally! Some recognition!" Weiss smiled smugly.

"The same company infamous for its controversial labor forces and questionable business partners."

"Lol," Reth smirked while the red cloak was giggling. Weiss simply got angry again, "Wha- How dare- The nerve of... Ugh!" She then proceeded to storm off as her helpers gathered her stuff and followed.

"I promise I'll make this up to you!" Red cloak called out to the heiress before sighing. "I guess I'm not the only one having a rough first day... So, what's…" She noticed the black bowed girl went off to her own business before she fell on her back. "Welcome to Beacon…"

'She was cute, cute, dang, but that bow….' Reth stayed staring at the bowed girl's retreating figure and began paying attention to her hips. Realising where his gaze was, he quickly shook his head before rubbing the back of his head in shame with his free hand. 'I can't do that….' he lowered his hand before the image of a girl flashed in his mind causing him to sigh.

"Hey…. I'm Jaune," hearing the familiar voice, Reth returned his attention seeing the vomit boy now named Jaune holding out a hand to the girl laid out on the floor which she then took.

"Ruby," she introduced before getting up and the both of them looked over to the eye mask wearing teen. He pointed at himself in mock surprise before he chuckled and smiled.

"Reth."

"Aren't you the guy that threw up on the ship?" Ruby asked Jaune.

….

..

.

"All I'm saying is that motion sickness is a much more common problem than people let on!" Jaune said defensively. The trio were walking through Beacon as Ruby was laughing at Jaune's expense.

"He's not wrong," Reth added in.

"Look, I'm sorry! Vomit Boy was the first thing that came to mind," Ruby chuckled.

"Oh, yeah? What if I called you Crater Face?" Jaune retorted with a teasing smile, Reth chuckled a bit at the nickname.

"Hey that explosion was an accident!" Ruby defended with a pout.

"Plus I stopped it from getting too bad," Reth added.

"Thank you so much for that, again," Ruby said to the blue boy.

"Well, the name's Jaune Arc! Short, sweet, rolls off the tongue - ladies love it!" Jaune confidently said.

"Confidence, nice," Reth stated with a smile.

"Do they?" Ruby asked skeptically.

"They will! Well, I-I hope they will. My mom always says that... Never mind," Jaune slumped slightly, Ruby and Reth giggled shortly.

"Confidence is the first step on the journey to sauce (charisma for you man that don't use slang)," Reth added before an awkward silence enveloped the trio, well Reth found it comfortable.

….

..

.

"So…. I got this thing!" Ruby broke the silence as she pulled out Crescent Rose and stabbed the scythe into the ground, making Jaune jump slightly while Reth calmly stared at the weapon.

"Whoa! Is that a scythe?" Jaune asked.

"It's also a customizable high-impact sniper rifle!" Ruby explained.

"A wha-"

"It's also a gun, I think she said," Reth answered.

"It is," Ruby smiled, cocking it.

"Oh. That's cool!" Jaune recognised as Reth nodded his head in agreement.

"So what've you got?" Ruby asked the two.

"Oh I, uh…." Jaune started as he unsheathed a sword. "I got this sword!"

"Cool!" Reth smiled.

"Oooooohh," Ruby examined.

"Yeah, and I've got a shield, too!" Jaune then raised the scabbard which then transformed into a shield. Ruby then touched and examined the blade before looking back to Jaune.

"So what do they do?"

Jaune began fumbling with the shield before it finally turned back to its scabbard form, "the shield gets smaller, so when I get tired of carrying it, I can just... put it away…"

"Wouldn't it just weigh the same, tho?" Reth questioned.

"Yeah…. It does…." Jaune responded dejectedly, earning a chuckle from the two.

"Well it does make it more manageable to walk around and it saves space!" Reth patted Jaune's back reassuringly.

"Yeah…. I guess it does!" Jaune realised. "What about you Reth, what kind of crazy overpowered weapon do you have?"

Reth gave his skateboard to Jaune for him to hold and reached for the sheathed blade hanging on the back of his hip, unclipped it and held it out forward with his left hand. The sheath was slightly thicker than the average katana sheath, was blue with a trigger on it and had a black flame pattern on both ends of the sheath.

"It's nothing too special, like Jaune I have a sword," Reth began as he grabbed the blue hilt with his right and unsheathed the weapon. It revealed a one edged blade that was completely black but had a grey four pointed star near the blade's tip with the bottom point of the star stretching down to the middle of the blade. The other two made "oooohhh" sounds at the blade's design.

"Also the sheath can turn into a gun instead of a shield," Reth flipped the sheath and made it turn into a gun, he handed it to Ruby who put her scythe away and then examined the firearm with starry eyes before spinning the sword in his right hand. "The blade is made from a Dust-steel alloy. The sheath used to be bladed as well but I decided to remove it and just reinforced the sheath so it can also be used as a blunt weapon too, sometimes it's about simplicity. Obviously I can also load different Dust magazines into the sheath."

"Cool..." Ruby muttered before she handed the sheath back and took the sword and examined it, she then noticed that there were little engravings of some kind along the blade as well as a small button under the grey guard. Reth noticed where Ruby was looking and smiled before opening out his right hand and pressing a button on the sheath in his left hand. Then the sword flew out of Ruby's grasp and into Reth's hand making the other two gasp in awe.

"How'd you do that?" Jaune asked. Reth simply snickered and sheathed his blade before placing the sheath back behind his hip.

"Maaaagic~" Reth jokes, causing the two to laugh as Jaune handed Reth his skateboard back.

"Well, I'm kind of a dork when it comes to weapons, sooo... I guess I did go a little overboard when designing my Crescent Rose," Ruby spoke.

"My brother's the same way with weapons," Reth said.

"Wait, you made that?" Jaune asked, astonished.

"Of course! All students at Signal forge their own weapons!" Ruby answered.

"I went to Shield, but it's the same way there as well," Reth added.

"Didn't you make yours?" Ruby questioned the blonde.

"It's a hand-me-down. My great-great-grandfather used it to fight in war," Jaune answered.

"Sounds more like a family heirloom to me!" Ruby laughed, Reth shook his head with a smile before looking at Jaune.

"Well, I like it! Not many people have an appreciation for the classics these days," Reth noted before looking around the surrounding area. "I based my weapon off of my gramps' weapon and that's old as well."

"Yeah, the classics…." Jaune responded as he sheathed his sword. Reth then saw a cat staring at him, the cat was white with patches of red across its body as well as vibrant emerald green coloured eyes. Reth being the cat person he was, decided to go to the cat and crouched in front of it and began petting it before he was practically smiling from ear to ear.

"Aww you're just too cute, fam," Reth cooed at the cat as it began to purr into his hand. "You seem used to people as well."

The cat then removed it's head from Reth's hand and went down the hall before stopping and meowing at Reth, 'does it want me to follow?' The blue boy got up and walked up to the cat only for it to continue running down the hall. While he was following his new feline friend another thought made its way to Reth's head, 'that cat… seems familiar.'

After turning a corner, Reth realised he had arrived at the giant auditorium with no sign of the cat. 'I'm at the auditorium… Did that cat lead me?' He whipped his head left and right looking for the feline before shrugging 'wait, where are Red Riding Hood and Sir Pukes-a-lot?'

Line break

Reth took up a lone area and leaned against the wall with his eye mask over his eyes as he was seemingly asleep standing up. He noticed that people were doing their best to avoid him and not disturb him causing him to sigh quietly to himself, 'they don't know what really happened so it's cool. Though I can feel all their fear and spite towards me.' Reth once again shrugged and continued to rest against the wall.

"Yeah! And we can paint our nails and try on clothes and talk about cute boys, like tall, blond, and scraggly over there!" Reth heard a familiar voice say with sarcasm. "Or tall, blue and stoic over there!" Reth raised an eyebrow and lifted his eye mask to see Weiss pointing at him with Ruby and Yang looking in his direction. Reth simply rolled his eyes and placed his eye mask over his eyes once again, pretending to haven't seen them.

'Who the fuck she calling stoic?!' Reth thought to himself before calming down and continued resting himself against the wall.

"I'll keep this brief," Reth recognised the voice belonging to Ozpin and he lifted his mask to his head and looked at the silver haired man on stage. "You have traveled here today in search of knowledge, to hone your craft and acquire new skills, and when you have finished, you plan to dedicate your life to the protection of the people. But I look amongst you, and all I see is wasted energy, in need of purpose, direction." Reth smiled at hearing this as it reminded him that his journey was still beginning, while other students murmured.

"You assume knowledge will free you of this, but your time at this school will prove that knowledge can only carry you so far. It is up to you to take the first step," with that Ozpin left the stage and Glynda came up to speak.

"You will gather in the ballroom tonight; tomorrow, your initiation begins. Be ready. You are dismissed."

With that, Reth got off the wall and began stretching and sighed with content at the release before dropping his hands to his side and began making his way to the exit. He walked in the direction of Ruby and the other two with Jaune seemingly making his way to them as well. Reth gave a small salute greeting to the girls while Jaune….

"I'm a natural blonde you know," Jaune tried making talk with Weiss, making the heiress put her head to her hand in exasperation while Reth laughed quietly at her reaction.

….

..

.

Later on, students are splayed out on sleeping bags in the ballroom. Ruby was wearing her pajamas with an eye mask around her head and was writing something in a journal. Her sister, Yang, drops next to her in similar sleep attire.

"It's like a big slumber party!" Yang proclaimed.

"I don't think Dad would approve of all the boys, though," Ruby said, not looking up as she spoke,

"I know I do," Yang purrs as she was looking at all the shirtless, muscular guys and then saw Jaune, waving at her causing her to groan. She returned her attention to Ruby. "What's that?"

"A letter to the gang back at Signal. I promised to tell them all about Beacon and how things are going," Ruby responded.

"Aw that is so cuuuute-" Yang was interrupted by a pillow to her face, courtesy of Ruby.

"Shut up. I didn't get to bring my friends with me to school! It's weird not knowing anyone here…."

"What about Jaune! He's…. Nice. Or how bout that blue haired looker, Reth. There you go! Two new friends, a two hundred percent increase!" Yang pointed out to her sister.

"I'm pretty sure Weiss counts as a negative friend, down to one."

"Silly, there's no such thing as a negative friend! You just made two friends and one enemy." Yang received a groan from her sister in response. "Speaking of friends, doesn't Reth seem familiar to you?"

"I was thinking that as well," Ruby responded. "Have we met him before?"

"Maybe," Yang then looks around the hall. "I haven't seen him since that speech. I wonder where-"

"This is FUCKING Sparta!"

The doors open with a loud bang causing nearly everyone one to look over at what caused the door to be slammed open. They saw a shirtless Reth with grey pj bottoms that had red and black stars all over them with his eye mask on his head as usual over a blue durag he had on and was holding his sleeping bag in his right arm with his right leg raised up and forward, indicating that he kicked the door open. He then lowered his leg and walked in with a confident posture and a stoic serious look before he stopped walking and gave a smile.

"Yo, " Reth greeted before looking around for a spot to set his sleep arrangements.

When Reth wore his combat gear he looked quite slim, while in actuality that wasn't the case. He wasn't the biggest and muscular guy in the room but he was far from skinny, his body had small scars here and there, you could tell he worked hard for his body. Veins could be seen across his harm, the girls eyed the green eyed teen up and down as he made his way to a spot and set his stuff down. Yang noticed that some girls' gazes remained at a certain area below the belt area, 'some girls have no tact,' the blonde thought to herself before looking back at Reth. 'Though I can't blame them.'

Getting back up, Reth began noticing the stares at him and he frowned with an eyebrow raised. 'I know I'm not in the public's good eye but damn, can't I just get some sleep without being judged,' he thought, oblivious to why they were truly staring at him, as he then laid down on his sleeping bag and placed his mask over his eyes and placed his hands behind his head as he rested on his pillow.

"Wow, looks like your friend wins the best looking body in the room," Yang purred as she stared at Reth, while Ruby blushed at what she said. Yang then grabbed her little sister's arm and dragged her off to see Reth. "Come on let's go say hi!"

Reth began hearing footsteps that were making their way towards him, he lifted the right of the sleeping mask and saw Ruby and Yang approaching him with the latter being dragged along.

"Hellooooo~" The blonde bomber greeted in a sing-song voice while waving to him, Reth kept a neutral face as he raised his sleep mask up and sat up to greet the two girls.

"What's good, Red Riding Hood," Reth crossed his legs and placed a hand on each knee. "Yang right?"

"Hey, Reth," Ruby greeted with a wave before sitting down.

"Yep~ How come you're sleeping by yourself, Blue boy?" Yang asked, taking a seat next to Reth.

"This was the first free spot I saw," Reth answered. "I can't be asked to move if that's what you were going to ask. I need my sleep."

"Oh come on, you get to sleep next to two beautiful girls legally," Yang offered while poking Reth's cheek. Reth made a look that gave of the impression he was thinking seriously and weighing his options before opening his eyes and chuckling.

"True, but I'd rather get to dreamland ASAP," Reth responded before placing his mask over his eyes and laying back down with his hands behind his head. "I suggest you two do the same, we got an initiation tomorrow."

Yang sulked at the boring answer and decided to go a different approach, she began running her fingers up and down his bare upper body in an attempt to get a reaction out of the dark skinned teen, which didn't work as he feigned being asleep.

"That girl," Ruby spoke, Yang stopped caressing Reth's skin to follow Ruby's line of sight on the girl with the black bow from earlier.

"You know her?" Yang asked.

"Not really. She saw what happened this morning but left before I could say anything."

"Well now's your chance! Hey Blue boy-" Yang and Ruby realised he was sleeping as he was lightly snoring and had an anime styled snot bubble growing and shrinking. Well he was pretending of course, he was trying to save and recover as much strength both physically and mentally possible for tomorrow's initiation and wanted to be left to sleep. Once he heard the two leave he finally began drifting off.

After a while he then heard yelling between what sounded like Yang and probably Weiss, Reth gritted and grinded his teeth at this until he could no longer take it. He sat up, grabbed one of his extra pillows and flung it in the direction of the argument with force and fury.

*SLAM*

The four girls turned their attention to the pillow that was still spinning in front of them from the momentum of the throw, causing the candle to go out from the slight wind. They then looked in the direction of where it came from and saw Reth sitting up with his hand outstretched indicating it was him who launched the fluffy projectile.

"Can you please, be quiet, some of us actually care about being well rested!" Reth began, his eye mask over his eyes. "Please be considerate to those who struggle falling asleep to begin with."

"You were awake?!" Yang asked.

"Don't ask questions. Just go to sleep," Reth commanded before laying back down. "Goodnight."

….

..

.

And that's the end of this chapter, hope y'all enjoyed. Reth really takes sleep seriously huh. What do you think of our blue haired protag? Love him already? Hate him already? Haven't reached a consensus? Tell me in a review.

Unfortunately this is where I leave you all for the week. Stay safe, take care, Black Lives Matter (not saying they only matter. When a forest is on fire and someone says save the forest you don't say save ALL forests when only one is in the most danger), have a great week and I love y'all.

I'm KronousTime and I'm already in the future.
