Chapter 6: Crisis in Robotropolis
The final battle has begun. There was no time to waste, it was do or die. At least, that's what it felt like for Sonic the Hedgehog and his friends. Despite the challenges they've been through in Eggman's remodeled city of Robotropolis, one stood firm in Sonic's way; Dr. Eggman himself. The doctor utilized a mech dubbed, the 'Egg Walker III' all to stall for the eventual robotization of Sonic's new friend, SNT the Experiment.
"Ha ha! Think you can keep up with me?" Eggman taunted while firing a barrage of bullets from mech's Vulkan cannon.
Sonic ran around dodging the bullets, the bullets merely grazing his body as he boosted across the room. The doctor kept up the string of fire, not giving his mortal enemy a chance to attack. But unbeknownst to him, the Vulkan Cannon was heating up as smoke came out of the barrel.
Sonic bounced off the wall and propelled his body towards the Egg Walker, landing a direct hit to the mech. It stumbled on its feet before regaining control. Eggman fired a rocket from the bazooka, but Sonic jumped out of its way and homing attacked the walker again.
All the while, the robotization process of SNT proceeded with very little delay. The blue electricity that surrounded the glass chamber powered the scanning grid. The hybrid was paralyzed in FEAR. She couldn't do anything to stop the process unless by some miracle it malfunctioned and broke down.
"Sonic, try destroying the console!" the hybrid shouted. But the hedgehog didn't hear her, as Eggman fired another rocket.
The doctor pressed a button in his mech, parts of the floor began glowing red with Eggman's face. Sonic moved out of the way, as crushers landed on the path to the console.
"Sorry Sonic, I can't let you stop my plans again," retorted Eggman, "besides I can wait, unlike your sister." He said as the Robotizicer began producing yellow electricity.
SNT banged on the glass, "Sonic hurry!"
On another part of Eggman's fortress, Knuckles the Echidna was fighting his way through hordes of Badniks and Egg Pawns. After separating from Sonic to find the Master Emerald, he went to the deeper parts of Eggman's facility to find it. Nothing would stand in the way of his duty as a guardian.
After all the robots were defeated, Knuckles could see a large metallic door with a lightning bolt engraved on it and a warning which read, "HIGH VOLTAGE! AUTHORIZED PERSONNEL ONLY." The guardian didn't care and punched the door open, sending it flying to the other side.
Inside were generators distributing power to the city. All were hooked up with wires to one central point, the Master Emerald. The giant stone was hooked up to an enormous chamber with sensors attached around it. Knuckles approached the chamber until he saw someone on top of the emerald. Mecha Sonic.
"Always with the drama, eh, Guardian?" the bot taunted.
Knuckles growled, "get off the emerald right now!"
Mecha Sonic laughed, "very well then, but I should warn you. I've received a big upgrade to my Super State." He then proceeded to draw energy from the Master Emerald.
Knuckles ran towards the chamber, but Mecha Sonic unleashed a shockwave, knocking the echidna away. The Sonic-bot then levitated to the air, as his armor turned into a bright gold color.
The echidna got up to see Mecha in his Super form.
"I'LL CRUSH YOU!" The sonic bot then curled into his ball form.
Outside the fortress, Tails and Amy were holding off the entire Badnik army. The two-tailed fox utilized his mech dubbed, "The Cyclone" to blast each and every robot that approached him.
Amy utilized her hammer to destroy each badnik to pieces. A Motobug dashed towards her, but the pink hedgehog somersaulted out of the way and smashed it to pieces.
"Is Sonic okay in there?" she asked exhausted, "We are barely keeping them away."
"Keep going, Eggman cannot get any backup no matter what!" Tails shouted. Just then something struck the Cyclone from the side, almost knocking it over.
The badniks stopped attacking. Everyone turned to see Metal Sonic hovering mid-air, he glared at the tired Amy and terrified Tails. He charged an energy ball from his chest cannon and fired it at the duo. The pink hedgehog jumped out of the way, but the fox boy was unlucky as his mech was directly hit. Tails jumped out of the Cyclone as it short-circuited before exploding.
Metal Sonic divebombed towards the fox's location, Amy tossed her hammer towards the Sonic duplicate but he caught it and tossed it away. The Robo-Sonic grabbed Tails by his neck and threw him towards his pink friend. Egg Pawns aimed their weapons at the defeated pair. Amy and Tails raised their hands and got up from the road. Metal Sonic hovered above them.
"Disappointing," he said. "Send them to the roboticizer, the doctor has unfinished business with them."
The Egg Pawns obeyed and forced the two prisoners to walk to the fortress, but that was when something caught everyone's eye. An enormous meteor was approaching the city at a fast pace, it was about to crash on the city. The Egg Pawns ran for their lives, completely forgetting about Tails and Amy. The duo entered the fortress without hesitation as Metal Sonic quickly chased after them.
The meteor destroyed each structure in its path until it crashed in the middle of the city. The Egg Pawns readied their weapons and aimed at whatever might come out. When the smoke cleared, the meteor's identity turned out to be a giant metallic space capsule. The robots looked at each other, confused as to why something like that appeared.
That was when the capsule let off steam, panels began shifting and pistons lifted the heavy weight. Until it transformed into a sixty-meter tall behemoth.
Its colors were dark purple and washed-out gold. Thin arms and legs with bulky forearms and calves and short spikes on the sides on each one. Spherical-shaped joints for shoulders with long spikes attached to them. A thin torso with a wide chest with a red arc reactor and large spikes were on its back. Its left hand was a tentacle with a claw attached to the tip. Its head had two long and short horns that curved in, a mouth plate, and ten eyes.
The Titan loomed over Robotropolis. The Egg Pawns fired their weapons but barely left any scratches on its armor. The behemoth took one step as it shook the ground. The small robots ran for their lives. The Titan's ten eyes glowed and fired concentrated beams of energy towards Eggman's fortress, blowing the entire top half of the structure.
Inside the Roboticizer Chamber room, Eggman and Sonic continued their long-drawn-out battle. But the sound of the explosion stopped them dead on their tracks. The lights turned off and Roboticizer shut down as the power required was cut off. SNT sighed in relief, as she wouldn't be turned into a killer robot.
"What just happened?!" Eggman growled. The doctor pulled up his communicator, "Orbot, tell the-"
"Sorry sir, but we have an emergency!" Orbot's voice interrupted.
"What kind of emergency!?" The doctor shouted.
"The big kind!" The robot replied.
An earthquake shook the remaining part of the fortress and made Eggman fall off his Egg Walker. Sonic tried to maintain his balance but also fell to the floor and the Roboticizer's plexiglass chamber quickly shattered. SNT wanted to cry of joy, but she also fell to the floor.
The crushers raised to the ceiling, as the monitor powered up. Displaying an image of a silhouette with five red eyes in a dark background. The figure then spoke in a robotic voice and said,
"Attention you disgusting creatures, your universe has been chosen for our collection. If we face resistance of any kind, you'll suffer the consequences of your actions. This is not a threat, there is nothing you can do to stop it. The process has already begun.
"Soon your universe will be uninhabitable by any kind of organism. Man, woman, child, plant, animal and bacteria. All life will cease to exist. Goodbye."
The transmission ended and the monitor displayed the live footage of the Titan destroying Robotropolis. Sonic and SNT were speechless at what just happened. Eggman however was furious, does he think some kind of giant robot will be enough to stop him?
"Orbot, get the Egg Carrier. We're taking this battle to the skies!" the doctor shouted from his communicator.
"Right on that!" Orbot hangs up.
Eggman ran outside the Roboticizer room leaving Sonic and SNT behind. Shortly after, Tails and Amy entered the room to see what happened.
"Sonic!" Amy shouted.
"Are you two okay?" Tails asked.
"Yes, we're fine," Sonic replied, "Come on, we gotta chase after Egghead before he does anything stupid."
Amy raised an eyebrow, "Why though?"
"Because there is a giant robot destroying Eggman's city!" SNT responded.
The fox and hedgehog girl were shocked to hear this. Sonic continued, "there was also this weird speech about how someone was going to make our universe no longer inhabitable."
"And do you believe that?" Tails asked.
The blue hedgehog laughed, "No way, we faced way worse than this. Come on, let's show this bucket of bolts what happens when you mess with our planet!" He then boosted off to find Eggman.
"Wait for us!" Amy shouted, as she tried to keep up with her blue friend.
Tails and SNT shortly chased after them, perhaps there was still some hope left.
Down in the fortress' energy core, the battle between Knuckles and Super Mecha Sonic raged on. The combatants were evenly matched despite the latter having a super form. The power chamber that housed the Master Emerald was destroyed, which cut off energy from the city.
The guardian jumped and dodged from a barrage of launched missiles, which exploded behind him. He leapt towards one and punched it back at the sonic doppelganger, who then knocked it away with a casual arm thrust. Knuckles used that moment to throw a superman punch, only for the golden robot to grab his arm and slam him on the metallic ground.
Super Mecha Sonic then tossed Knuckles like a ragdoll, nearly breaking the echidna's bones in the process. The guardian tried to fight back but his body wouldn't let him, his bones were almost cracked to the point of being unusable. He needed to hide.
"I warned you, Guardian, my super state has been upgraded," the robot taunted. "Your pathetic attempts to destroy me are predictable at best. Give up now and I may spare your life."
Before Knuckles could respond, Eggman's voice boomed from within Super Mecha Sonic.
"Mecha Sonic, I need you at the hangar this instant!" roared the doctor's voice.
The Sonic-bot groaned in annoyance, "What is it?"
"Bring the Master Emerald with you, we're leaving this place!" Eggman commanded.
"Understood." After Super Mecha Sonic hung up, he flew towards the giant emerald and lifted it over his shoulders. "It was nice, guardian, but the doctor requires my presence." He then blasted off to the ceiling.
Now all alone, Knuckles tried to pick himself up, but his injuries were too fatal to even stand. That was when he heard a familiar voice.
"Knuckles! We're here!"
"S… Sonic…" the echidna weakly replied, before passing out. Debris shortly fell off the ceiling and trapped the echidna underneath.
Sonic, Tails, Amy and SNT approached the wreckage that led to the power chamber. Robot shells smashed to pieces and bullet holes were in the walls and metal floor. Nothing was left unscathed.
"Knuckles? Where are you?!" The group shouted one after another.
They approached the power grid to witness all the destroyed generators. The Master Emerald was nowhere to be seen. Another earthquake happened, nearly breaking the ceiling due to a lack of support.
The group noticed a pile of debris that trapped Knuckles. He tried to move, but the battle with Mecha Sonic left him nearly paralyzed. The group lifted the debris and helped their friend get back on his feet.
Tails examined Knuckles' state and said, "He'll be fine. Come on, let's get out of here."
Everyone nodded and left for the fortress' hangar bay, hoping they would make it in time.
On the hangar bay, Eggman and his lieutenants were getting ready to board the Egg Carrier. It was an enormous red and black battleship with yellow highlights. All the Egg series and Badniks made their way inside, with Orbot and Cubot waiting alongside the doctor for Mecha Sonic's arrival with the Master Emerald. But the wait would be over as the Sonic doppelganger arrived with the prized jewel.
"Took you long enough," the doctor said. "There's no time to waste. I may not know where that behemoth came from, but it will fall before the might of the Eggman Empire!"
Mecha Sonic nodded and flew to the battleship.
"Sir, all the units are ready for combat!" Orbot responded.
"Wait, did we bring any sweets?!" Cubot stupidly asked.
"That's enough setbacks," Eggman said. "Time to show our might!"
"Can you stop being dramatic for two seconds, Egghead?"
The doctor turned to see Sonic and friends approaching the Egg Carrier. The doctor clenched his fists and slammed his foot on the ground.
"You again?! Can you see that I'm busy!?" the doctor yelled.
"We're not here to fight, Eggman," Sonic said. "We know that giant killer robot is on the loose in your city, and we want to help."
"The hedgehog is right, sir," Orbot said. "You know what they say, the more the merrier."
"No," the doctor responded, "you're just going to take my glory away like you always do."
Amy then grabbed Eggman by the collar of his coat and summoned her hammer, "Listen here, Egghead! If you want your city to survive the attack of the giant killer robot, then let us join this battle before I smash that cue ball you call a head!"
SNT and Tails quickly pulled the pink hedgehog away before she could harm Eggman. The doctor backed away.
"Please, Robotnik," SNT said, "let us help you... for once in your life, consider doing something good!"
The doctor let out a sigh, "Fine… but this truce is only temporary, once that titan is destroyed we're enemies again, got it?."
"Well what are we waiting for? Let's go!" Sonic said, as he boosted towards the Egg Carrier.
The rest followed suit. The gate to the battleship closed, the thrusters lifted the massive vessel to the air as it soon left for the skies. The Egg Carrier soon approached the Titan, weapons ready and aimed at their target.
The behemoth continued its rampage through Robotropolis, blasting buildings to smithereens with its eye lasers and crushing at form of resistance under its weight. That was until it heard the sound of loud engines coming from behind. It turned around to see the Egg Carrier menacingly approach. The Titan stared at the ship with great interest, tilting its head as the vessel got closer and closer.
Inside, Eggman and the mobians watched as they approached their target.
"Weapons locked and loaded, sir," Orbot announced.
"Awaiting your command," announced an Egg Pawn.
"FIRE!" Eggman shouted at the top of his lungs.
The Egg Carriers cannons fired at the Titan, turrets shot their lasers and missiles rained down. All the while the front of the vessel opened up to reveal an even bigger cannon. The cannon began charging up with light blue energy.
"Time for a power up, Egg Cannon ready? Fire!" Eggman shouted from inside the airship.
The cannon finished charging up and fired a powerful laser of concentrated energy towards the Titan. The beam engulfed the behemoth's entire head, pushing the giant robot's body away a kilometer every second. The force was too much for it.
The doctor grinned, "Oh, ho, ho! This is what happens when you challenge the glorious Eggman Empire!"
"I highly doubt that," Tails said, "look!"
Everyone turned their attention to the Titan. What they witnessed was the most horrifying thing of their lives. The behemoth began absorbing the Egg Cannon's laser from its ten eyes and transferred it to its arc reactor, charging up a beam of its own.
"Stop the cannon!" Eggman ordered, "Don't let it charge up!"
But it was already too late, the Titan fired a powerful laser of its own from its chest. The Egg Carrier was blasted out of the sky, the crew of the Egg Carrier felt everything shake as the vessel headed straight for the fortress.
"Everyone hang onto something!" Sonic shouted.
Everyone did as told and braced themselves for impact, as the Egg Carrier headed for what was left of Eggman's fortress. The massive airship crashed on the facility, now fully destroyed. Weeks of work went down the drain for the mad doctor.
The impact of the crash left most of Eggman's robots destroyed and the rest unconscious, Sonic slowly got up as the Titan approached the wreckage of the Egg Carrier. From the corner of his eye he could see a bright green glow coming from nearby debris. He approached it but the injuries from the crash made his body feel weak. But that wouldn't stop him as he found the source of the green light, the Master Emerald.
Sonic touched the giant stone and his thoughts began forming into power. He felt a rush of energy flow through his body that he was all too familiar with. His spines pointed straight up, Sonic's green eyes turned red and his blue fur turned into a bright gold color.
Eggman, Tails, SNT, Amy and Knuckles slowly came to their senses, as they saw Sonic transform. Tails and Amy cheered as they knew what it meant, Knuckles simply smiled and Dr. Eggman grumbled to himself, not even paying attention to his archenemy's transformation. SNT stared in awe at what was in front of her, a single question popped in her head, Can… I do that as well? The hybrid thought.
Sonic then shot off to the sky in a gold aura. The golden hedgehog stopped mid air and faced the Titan head on.
"Okay bucket head, I may not know where you came from. But get ready for a beatdown, Super Sonic Style!"
