Booth and Bones are headed to their latest crime scene, "I'm getting creepy vibes from all the corn," Booth says as they pull in. Bones looks at him weirdly not understanding the cult movie reference. As they both walk up they begin to see the remains, "look at that Bones, you get two for the price of one today!" Booth says referencing the two bodies at the site. Bones chuckles and begins to kneel down the remains, "This one is a male, early/late twenties and this one is a female, early twenties. According to the proportional changes in her pelvis, she's given birth." She says as she takes off her gloves, "to the lab?" Booth asks and Bones nods. "Pack it ALL up!" Booth yells. By the time the afternoon rolls around Bones is on the forensic platform and Booth has been looking into the murders even further. "Anthropometrics suggest Hispanic origins. For both victims. According to their DNA they are not related." she says as Booth walks onto the platform and asks, "Murder suicide?" he asks. Bones shakes her head in protest, "No, both bodies had defensive markers." she says. Angela walks up to the platform, I got a match from dentals. " Female, is 24 year old Marisa Vargas and the male is Marco Garcia, 27 years old. According to their social media they were dating and sharing a daughter, named Alexandra, she's only 10." Booth and Brennan share a look, "we have to locate their daughter." Angela brings out another image of a man onto the screen, "this is Marisa's older brother Miguel. I'd look for him." Booth makes a call and finds the address of Marisa's older brother, "Miguel Vargas, 27 years old, a member of the calaveras, lets go." he says in Bones directions and she follows.
As they approach the house Booth orders Bones to stay behind her, Booth knocks on the door, "Miguel, we need to talk. It's about your sister." he says. A tall tan man answers the door, " Who are you? What do you know about my sister?" he asks. "Can we come in?" Booth asks nicely as he shows his badge. The man nods, Booth and Bone both step inside. Bones sees a little girl at a coffee table playing with a microscope. Booth points in the direction of the child, "is that your niece?" Miguel nods, "Can we speak in the kitchen there? She shouldn't have to hear this." he says. Miguel nods once more, "ninguna palabra, me entiendes." he says to his niece, the little girl nods, continuing to look into her microscope. Bones walks towards the little girl, "that's a very nice microscope, did your uncle buy that for you?" The little girl took her uncle's command seriously so she stayed quiet. The little girl, nods and smiles shyly. Bones could tell she was fragile and malnourished. Bones nods, "I know he told you not to say anything," the little girl looks at Bones impressed with her spanish. "Your name is Alexandra, correct? Do you like science Alex? I'm Dr. Temperance Brennan, I'm a scientist, I work at the Jeffersonian Institute." Bones continues to talk to the little girl and Alex smiles once again but this time she was excited. She nods with energy and invites Bones to look at her microscope. Alex is smiling with her teeth, excited she's meeting an actual scientist. The girl quickly writes in a piece of paper and hands it to Bones as she senses her uncle and Booth are done with their conversation. Bones hides the piece of paper as she can tell the little girl is afraid of her uncle.
"We'll do whatever we can." Booth says to Miguel and he says, "thank you sir." Bones and Booth are walking out of the house and Bones says, "Alex likes science, she didn't tell me directly because her uncle told her not to say a word. I can tell she's afraid of him." Booth looks at Bones with curiosity. Bones don't get attached to the victims family or the victim for that matter. "She's a little small for a 10 year old don't you think?" Booth asks and Bones nods, "I agree, you can tell she's malnourished." she says sadly as she pulls out the note from her coat pocket, "she gave me this before i left." Bones tells Booth. She unfolds it and reads it and Booth could tell Bones began to get emotional. "What does it say Bones?" he asks, desperately wanting to know. Bones eyes well up with tears, she says, "Thank you for speaking to me Dr. Brennan. No one really does." she dabs her eyes, she inspects the piece of paper, "there's an address on this," she says as she pulls out her cell phone to look it up. "It's an elementary school, Booth, she must attend the school." Bones looks at the piece of paper and then at her partner, "We have to keep her safe, Booth. She must know something. I can go talk to her while she's at school, recess? Do they still have recess?" she says at a fast space, "hey, hey! Slow down there Bones. We can just waltz in the school to question a child. We need evidence to tie Miguel to the murders." Booth says, surprised that his partner had suggested such a thing. Bones sighs and rubs her face, "I know, I know Booth. I just...I see myself in her. She's sad. I just have a bad..feeling." she says. "Take me back to the lab, I have work to do, please." she says.
