Chapter 1- A Good Morning

Waking up to see a pretty cheerleader with a donkey leg was not my idea of a good morning. And trust me; it won't be yours, too.

It might seem flattering that you have a godly beautiful girl as your abductor, but the fact that she might not be fully human, who she wasn't, was terrifying. Like, really.

Anyways, before I begin, let me rewind a bit and tell you something about myself. My name is Purnima. Purnima Dhruv. I am a 14-year-old Indian girl with ADHD and claustrophobia. And this is the story of how I ended up fighting my "family".

I was, as usual, on the streets of Manhattan.

Yes, you read that right. The streets. Why? Patience, little kittens. Save something for later!

So, my Saturday morning would have been normal if she hadn't come and ruined it. I was sleeping and having a peaceful dream - if you can count creepy voices whispering in your ears and huge storms as peaceful.

In my dream, I was on a beach and it was evening. The sky was streaked with the colour colour of gold, pink, purple and blue. The white sand was soft under my feet. The clouds looked like gold dust was sprinkled on them. It was beautiful.

I looked around and noticed that I was standing all alone. The beach was isolated and there was no one around. I could only hear the waves crashing against the shore. There were no people, no ice cream stands, and no umbrellas. Not a soul could be seen. The emptiness made me shudder with unease.

Suddenly, a loud boom echoed in the sky, which was now dark and grey. The previously calm waves started thrashing the shore violently. The earth shook and a strong wind blew. I shivered, not knowing whether I was terrified, or just cold.

Then a cold and malicious voice came from the earth, "Join my army, young one! Otherwise, all your loved ones will meet their doom." I was dizzy with lethargy by then; the earth seemed to be draining me of all my energy. I couldn't understand anything clearly.

The waves became bigger and bigger. A huge crevice formed as the ground began to tremble and open up. Before I could react, a huge wave rose and swallowed me.

"Oh, you're alive," said someone. When I opened my eyes, I saw a girl with wavy ginger hair and freckles staring intently at me. Startled, I jumped up and moved away from her.

I checked where I was: the subway. Not a bad place to sleep. Then I looked back at the girl, and the first thought that came into my mind was, damn, I'm ugly. Seriously, she was so pretty it almost seemed inhuman, while I probably looked like a pig beside her. Rather, I'm sure that's what I looked like back then.

Peeling my eyes away from her, I glanced around me. There was no one around except the girl. The subway was completely deserted.

Slowly, I inched away from the inhuman girl.

"Hey, where are you going? I need to talk to you," she said in a high-pitched, yet honey soft voice. That was when I realized that she was not human.

One of her legs looked like someone had put some super long fur leg warmers and the other was made of a metal that looked like bronze.

Maybe she was in an accident and lost her leg, I thought, although I don't think metal legs are very comfortable. Upon closer inspection though, her leg which I thought had leg warmers was an animal leg, goat or donkey or something.

I froze. A pretty half-human, half-animal girl was with a metal leg was crouching in front of me. I knew there was something wrong with the pretzel I ate yesterday.

"Hey, don't panic. I won't hurt you," said Donkey Girl.

Her voice… seemed to have some effect on me. It made me feel calm… it told me that I was safe and happy and that I should listen to the Donkey Girl because she won't hurt me.

"Good," she said and snapped her fingers. Before I could process what just happened, something heavy hit my head and everything went black.

I know that it's the third time that I am editing this chapter but I want the story to be great. Don't forget to drop a review for the story! Your feedback is extremely valuable for me.
