AN: So this story has been in the works for a while and I could use a bit of motivation to finish it. If you like it, please review, I would really appreciate it :)
The Siren's Call
Chapter 1
The eerie red glow of the emergency lighting filled the corridors. It flickered as it too was starting to lose power. The warning signals along the control panels flashed, alerting its passengers of various system failures, as alarms sounded throughout the starship.
Qui-Gon took no notice of the alarms as he sped down the empty corridors, he was already more than aware of the ships problems. He was only glad that oxygen was not one of them – yet.
His breath turned to faint mist as soon as it escaped his lips. His nose and cheeks felt numb from the cold. He pulled his many layers of clothing tighter around himself. One of the warning lights was indicating a malfunction in the heating system, causing the temperature to sink rapidly. If the pilot didn't fix it soon they could freeze to death. And that was definitely not how Qui-Gon imagined himself dying.
Qui-Gon could see ice crystals begin to form on the walls as he turned another corner. Not much further Qui-Gon assured himself. He reached an intersection. Closing his eyes, he reached into the Force and felt it pulling him to the left. He opened his eyes again and continued running. His footsteps echoed loudly on the cold durasteel.
Moments later he had reached his destination. He was in the small common area of the ship. The round room had a few chairs and tables that were securely attached to the floor in it. The furthest wall away was lined with viewports showing the blackness of deep space. Qui-Gon navigated his way around the tables to find what he was looking for; his Padawan.
The 16-year-old boy lay unconscious on the cold durasteel floor. Qui-Gon rushed to his side, noticing that he was only wearing his thin tunic and trousers. He removed a glove and reached to the boy's neck to feel for a pulse and almost pulled his hand back. Obi-Wan's skin was ice-cold.
Qui-Gon breathed a sigh of relief that caused a thick cloud of mist to fill the air around him. He found a pulse, it was weak, but it was there.
"Obi-Wan?" he tested but he got no response.
Obi-Wan's lips were a pale shade of blue and his skin was snow-white. His whole body was shivering slightly, and his breathing was shallow and slow. No doubt he was suffering from hypothermia, Qui-Gon noted with dread. Qui-Gon stood and searched the entire room for the extra items of clothing he had seen Obi-Wan wearing the last time he saw him, but without luck.
He quickly removed his own cloak and carefully covered the small form of his Padawan with it. Qui-Gon immediately felt the difference as he started to shiver, but Obi-Wan was now his first priority. He took his hat off and slipped it onto Obi-Wan's head. He had to find more blankets and cloaks or Obi-Wan would most likely freeze to death and so would he if he continued to give Obi-Wan the clothes that were keeping him warm and consequently alive.
He desperately searched the room again before trying the adjacent rooms. To his luck he found a couple of blanket in a storage cabinet and he quickly headed back to Obi-Wan with them. He wrapped the boy in as many blankets as he could, before pulling one around his own shoulders.
All he could do now was wait. He sat beside his young Padawan, leaning against the table behind him. "Just hold on" he said, as he watched the mist that formed with every breath the boy took. It was the only thing that assured Qui-Gon that he was still alive. Under all the blankets he couldn't see the minute rise and fall of Obi-Wan's chest.
Suddenly the whole ship lurched. The violent movement caused Qui-Gon's head to knock against the table. He hissed in pain as he reached to touch the back of his head. What was that? Qui-Gon wondered. Had they hit something? He stood up and made his way to the viewport. His eyes widened at the sight before him. They had drifted into the asteroid field. He would have to find the pilot – now!
He turned to head back down the corridors to find the pilot when he felt a shift in the Force. His eyes immediately landed on his Padawan. His heart sank as he realised that the small cloud of mist wasn't there. Obi-Wan had stopped breathing.
