The three of them ran to the bathroom banging on the door for the other girl to open the door for them. A second later after some shuffling the door slides open Hiyori looked like a wreck, like she had been crying before they got there.
"What's wrong Hiyori?" Yukine asked her in a hurried mess trying to look in the bathroom.
She opens the door a bit more to let them in. "Please help. I don't know what to do. Yato, I tried to get him in a bath to cool down, but he fell unconscious. He threw up before he passed out." She went back into the bathroom where Yato was laying dead to the world by the bathtub. There was a small puddle of vomit next to him, as she ran back over to his limp body.
"What's wrong with him?" Yukine tries asking her, shaking from the fear that had grasped his own body in that moment. "Is it blight?"
Hiyori shook her head, "No it's not. He's suffering from a heatstroke. I recognize some of the signs from when one of my cousins came down with it a few years ago." She turned her gaze to him, her eyes pleading, "Has Yato drank anything today?"
Yukine shakes his head, "I saw him drink some tea this morning at breakfast, but he drank hardly a drop of water the whole time he was working on that job. He started acting weird a few hours before we finished up with the job." He leans forward, "Is he going to be alright? What do we do?"
"I don't know how to treat this kind of thing, that incident happened when I was only 14. My father took care of my cousin, while my mother took me back to the hotel room." Then it clicked in her head, "Can you watch him while I go call my father?"
Yukine nodded, turning to Daikoku for help. The older man came forward, watching out for anything else that would rear its ugly head around the corner. While Hiyori went outside the bathroom, and into the front yard, being quick to dial her father's number.
The number didn't take long to reach with her father's strained voice coming over the line. "Hiyori dear is something wrong? You never call my work number unless it's something important."
"Yeah this time it is something really important. Remember that year we went to a waterpark a few years ago and my cousin came down with a heat stroke?" Hiyori asked her father in a tired but scared tone.
"Yeah. Your cousin recovered after a few days. Why did you bring that up?" Her father informed her.
"I have a friend that has a heat stroke. He was out working for over 8 hours doing yard work, and didn't drink hardly any water throughout the day. He fell unconscious, and won't wake up. What do I do?" She asked him frantically, scared out of her mind.
Her father speaks up in a serious doctor tone. "How long has he been unconscious?"
"Not even 5 minutes, I didn't know what to do so I called you. I have some other friends watching him right now for any changes. What do I do to treat this?" Hiyori asked her once more, chewing on her lip, her body shaking from fear.
"If he's unconscious it's best to call for an ambulance and bring him to a hospital. A heat stroke is treatable and people do survive it, but only when it's caught early enough. Make sure he's still breathing, check his vitals, and try to cool him down while checking his temperature. Can you call an ambulance for him?" Her father asked her.
"That's the problem. He doesn't have any insurance, and he dislikes hospitals, he told me he doesn't want to go." She informed him, trying to make up some sort of lie.
"Well sometimes in order to get better people have to put aside their dislikes, and life situations to get that help. Please call for help, and do what you can in the meantime. A heat stroke isn't something to mess around with or put off to the side. I'll send more information to your email, go see your friend right now." Her father tries to make her feel better, but it didn't in all reality.
"Ok thank you dad, you've been a huge help." She was quick to disconnect the line, and run back to the bathroom. She heard voices talking low in the bathroom, and went inside to see Yato stirring just a bit. She runs to his side, "My father was a huge help. He's going to send some more information over my phone for me." She turns her gaze to Daikoku, "Has there been any changes?"
"He just started stirring a little, he hasn't said anything yet. What did your father say?" Daikoku asked her, keeping a hand on Yato's shoulder to keep him grounded.
"He told me to keep track of his vitals, make sure he keeps breathing, and to cool him down." Hiyori named off what her father told her. She then checked her phone, clicking on what was sent. "My father just said the quickest way to cool someone down is to submerge their body in cool but not cold water up to the neck for up to 15 or more minutes while checking their temperature, and keeping track of their vitals, breathing rate."
Daikoku nods, grabbing Yato by the shoulders, pulling his limp body up. "Yukine, help me strip him down to his boxers." He turns to Hiyori, "While we're doing this I can trust you to fill the bathtub up with water."
Together Daikoku and Yukine stripped off all of Yato's clothes that they found out was soaked in his sweat, until all he had on were his boxers. The clothes were shoved in a laundry basket close to the bathtub to be washed later. The older shinki turned to Kofuku, "My lady, why don't you go fetch some fresh clothes for Yato."
Kofuku gets up from her spot on the tile floor. "Ok."
"I don't know if Yato has any spare boxers, so just get a pair from my room. Get a light Yukata for him too. He doesn't need a lot of clothes on him while recovering from this ailment." Daikoku reminds her, as she scuttles out of the room, closing the door behind herself.
Hiyori had announced that the tub was nearly filled with the right amount of water, standing up while she turned to him. "Do you need my help getting him in the tub?"
The older shinki shakes his head, picking Yato up with ease. He is careful to submerge the god into the water until his head stuck out of the water. He made sure that Yato didn't go under the water, and made the situation worse. For 15, 20 minutes he kept Yato in that bath. Keeping track of the temperature that kept dropping down, and his breathing only slightly improving from before. Yato's heart wasn't beating as fast anymore, but he still did look horrible. Daikoku went ahead washing the gods hair that had been greased with oil and sweat, making the messy bob appear gross.
Finally after 25 minutes of being in the bath, he noticed that Yato was slightly shivering in the water. It was then he decided to take him out of it. Lifting the god back up out of the water he had Yukine lay down one of the extra big fluffy towels they had bought a few weeks ago, laying it down flat on the floor so he could lay the still limp god on it.
He turned to Hiyori, "Can you go get those clothes Kofuku retrieved for me? Me and Yukine will work on getting him dry."
Hiyori nods, going out of the bathroom to look for Kofuku. She couldn't find the normally bubbly goddess anywhere until she heard talking from outside. Turning, she heads to the entrance to find Bishamon and Kazuma standing outside the house. Kofuku was crying to them, not being able to speak a word as she was held by the taller goddess. In her arms were the clothes that Daikoku had requested.
"Hey Kofuku. Daikoku needs those clothes now. Can you hand them to me?" Hiyori asked her lightly.
It was like she finally remembered them, and was quick to hand them over. "Please is Yatty alright?"
Bishamon has a confused gaze come across her face. "Wait what's wrong with Yato?"
Kofuku cried into Bishamon's waist, "Yatty has a heat stroke. He won't wake up! I'm so worried for him!"
Bishamon looks up at Hiyori amazed and shocked all in one. "Wait how did he get a heat stroke of all things? What did that idiot do?"
Hiyori holds up a finger, "Daikoku really needs these clothes so I best go give them to him. I'll explain everything when we get the situation handled. For now come in and sit, comfort Kofuku."
Bishamon nods walking into the house dragging a sobbing Kofuku in with her, while Kazuma follows suit. Hiyori goes into the bathroom, almost blushing out of embarrassment. Yato laid on a towel with a smaller towel covering his midsection, and the soaked boxers thrown over with the other pile of clothes.
"Has he woken up at all?" She asked in a small voice handing the older shinki the clothes, and turning her back so he could get the clothes on Yato.
"No, hasn't stirred once. When he does we should try to get him to eat a little something and drink at least a little water." Daikoku said behind her, "What took so long?"
Hiyori hummed, "Kofuku had gotten the clothes but when I went to search for her. She was at the front door crying into Bishamon's waist."
The older shinki pauses for just a short second. "Wait. Did she say why she was here?"
Hiyori shakes her head unconsciously, "No she didn't. I presume it's to get an update on any vent openings in the area. We'll have to ask when we get Yato settled in his room."
"No. I'm going to get him set up downstairs so we can keep an eye on him. Who knows if he may turn for the worst. He doesn't need to be left alone right now." Daikoku told her in a gruff tone that told he was doing a task. "Can you set up the guest cot for him in the living room? His own cot is most likely sweaty and too constricting for him. He just needs to lay on the top, with a light sheet covering him, with a couple fans blowing on him."
"Wow you really did read through the notes my father left on my phone?" Hiyori asked, a little amazed.
"Yeah. They were really helpful otherwise I would be lost about what to do this entire time." Daikoku told her, finishing up with dressing Yato. He left the upper part around the gods shoulders loose, but not to loose. He made sure not to tie the belt around his waist too tight, but just enough to keep his upper half and boxers from being exposed. He picked Yato up off the damp towel beneath him and moved the still limp god over to another dry part of the floor. Hiyori moved out of the room to do yet another task as Daikoku looked at Yukine.
"It says on these notes not to let Yato drink cold drinks because it'll give him bad stomach cramps. Did you give him a cold drink anytime after that job?" The older man asked, having remembered most of the notes he read over.
It's then Yukine remembered the drinks he had bought not long after finishing the job as he looked down guilty. "Yeah he had given me some money to go buy a couple cold drinks. He drank his in seconds. If I would have known I wouldn't have given it to him."
"What kind of drink did you get? It said in the notes not to give him any sugary, caffeinated or alcoholic beverages, as well to avoid really cold drinks." Daikoku asked once more, eying the boy before his gaze softened. "It's ok Yukine. I'm sure he'll pull through, it wasn't your fault. If you let your emotions go out of wack now you'll only be hurting Yato even more."
Yukine looks down into his lap. "I got him a soda, and it was a really cold drink, in a can. Can we give him anything to help with the stomach cramps?"
"Unfortunately not. He'll just have to bear through it. Certain medications can make the symptoms worse." He then remembered what was in the notes, "It also said the best thing to eat and drink for someone under a heat stroke while recovering is salty foods such as pretzels or crackers. As for something to drink, what's best is water and or salt water. Procari sweet also helps since it's as close to gatorade as you'll get here in Japan." The two of them continue to talk until Hiyori pokes her head through the door, a sheet in her arms.
"I got the cot set up with the help of Bishamon. I have a sheet, and got a few pillows in case they were needed. Kazuma is collecting a couple fans to set around the cot. Is Yato ready to be moved?" The girl asked the older shinki lightly.
Daikoku nodded, being careful to loop one arm under the god's knees, and another behind his shoulders, lifting him up till his head was resting on the shinki's chest. He carried the god into the room where Bishamon, Kazuma, and Kofuku were waiting, he just shared a glance with them while he got yato settled into his cot.
