TITLE: ONE HIT AT MY HEART
Athrun Zala has been the strongest member of the Heliopolis Karate Club and was the youngest black belter in Orb at the age of 10. He and his friends have been practicing for tournaments every day and he won the National tournament for the last five years. One hot summer, new applicants for the club are mixed with old men and children, among them was for the very first time a girl joining their club. She was a very beautiful girl with a mid-length golden locks, pale skin, toned muscle and amber eyes.
"Hi! My name is Cagalli Yula Athha I'm 15 years old and I look forward practicing with everyone. Hope we all get a long and please take care of me!" She said with a huge smile and bowed as a gesture of respect.
She was like a sunshine that rise above all the tall buildings and attracts many people. Everyone was amazed how brave she was and how lively but doubts were formed since she was a girl. If tournaments come, she might bring their club names down. The Heliopolis Karate Club was ranked the most prestigious Karate Club in the entire Orb as they produced high class athletes like Athrun Zala. They also have the second best Yzack Joule and Dearka Elsman but these two never defeated the blue haired black belter Athrun Zala.
Cagalli made friends with everyone and was happily practicing with them except for one guy. The ace player of their club doesn't seem to be interested at interacting with her at all. She tried her best greeting him every morning and saying goodbye with her best smile but he never responded. It did not stop her from talking to him even though he is not responding.
"I wonder why Athrun senpai never talked to me it's already pissing me off. I already did my best befriending him but he never responded.! Did I do something to him?" Cagalli asked the green haired guy beside her named Nicol.
"Athrun was not really good talking especially to women, it happened when his mother passed away and he was raised only by his father. Please understand, actually him listening to you is already an improvement of him. Most of the time he will just leave the moment he sees a girl" Nicol replied while now having some stretching before starting their training.
"That's actually not a good excuse to be rude…. I never met my mother but I never made other people uncomfortable around me" Cagalli nagged while twisting her foot counter clockwise.
"Well Cagalli if you want, I could be your friend or more than that" A blond tanned man suddenly interrupted their conversation and winked at her.
"Dearka! Stop flirting with our Kouhai and start helping them practice the tournament will begin in a month!" An irritated white-haired guy approached them.
"Yzack! Come on man, we know we will win against any other club"
"But that doesn't mean that you should be slacking off…remember to practice now!" He demanded and three had their own ways and started practicing some kicking.
Athrun Zala was along kicking high at the end of the room but one particular girl was actually watching him with amazement. He felt he was being watched and so he stopped practicing and started glancing at every corner of the room to see who was observing him. Then he suddenly found a girl next to her with a huge smile.
"Can you teach me that one last moves you're practicing? It was amazing the kicked high then you twisted your body at the mid-air and kicked again using your other foot…then you kicked two times and released aa straight punch! It's amazing!" Cagalli said
"….Ummm"
"Don't be afraid talking to me senpai. I mean I should be the one scared cause you kick and all, right?" Cagalli joked.
"…."
The silence is already irritating and irritates her more when he turns his back.
"Now you're pissing me off Athrun senpai!"
"…." Still no response but Athrun was blushing already that's why he turned his back. He was at the edge so he has no escape.
"That's it I tried my best talking to you and respecting you as a senpai but I had enough! I can't imagine how rude and jerk you are…" Cagalli was about to leave when her hand was pulled by Athrun. She glanced at the black belter who was blushing.
"I'm sorry…I'm not good at talking to girls."Athrun said
"Why?"
"Because…most girls scream and dash towards me and I'm afraid that I might hurt them reflexively and mom was the only girl I have talked to properly but she was…gone."
"I'm sorry to hear about your mother…so…. yeaaaaah…Your fan girls." Cagalli said as she now faced him
"Thanks….and yeah kind a…You talking to me without screaming already is good and I'm still adjusting."
"Well…I can be your friend and I promise that I won't be like you "fan girls" stalking and screaming at you" she smiled "Not all girls are like that you know?" she added.
"Well…You are the first."
"Huh…. Well just be yourself you don't need to act cool in front of me."
"I might be adjusting yet but thank you for not giving up on me…I hope one day I could talk to girls normally like right now."
"Then start by teaching me Karate. It's a win-win situation you could practice talking to girls and I could learn new technique!" Cagalli extended her hand with a smile.
"….O-okay" Athrun responded and took her hand and shake as a start of their friendship.
"So…What do you call it?"
"I don't have any particular name for it. That was the first time I actually did it"
"Really? You know Athrun senpai you are like a bird flying in the air kicking. It was flawless and wonderful" She smiled
"Thank you…" Athrun said and smiled. He was actually shocked that he is now talking to a girl and he feel comfortable talking with her.
"You should call it "Saviour", Because the way you kick is not to harm but to perform a movement of art to protect someone or something" Cagalli recommended and fixed her white belt.
"….Hehe I guess I'll call it savior then…" Athrun smiled and laughed which shocked Cagalli but made her even smile.
"You look muuuuuch more handsome if you smile senpai" Cagalli commented which made Athrun blush
"Umm…You want me to teach you the basics?" He asked to change the topic
"Yes please!"
A whole month passed and Athrun was now personally teaching Cagalli in their club. It shocks many of their member as they see Athrun changed over time. He now smiles and laughed while practicing with her. He even escorts her back home after their practice. The time has come for the next regional tournament and every one was excited for their own match.
As expected, the overall champion is the Heliopolis Karate Club and unexpectedly Cagalli won all of her match and earned her yellow belt. Everyone was celebrating and so they decided to have dinner all together. Cagalli was so happy and informed Athrun about her promotion, without further ado she hugged him and thanked him for teaching her which made Athrun smile and blush.
"Thank you Athrun! I'm so happy and I will show it to my father! One day I will also defeat you!" She said and laughed.
"Oh?! I'd love to see that I wonder when…" He teased her and chatted along the way going to the restaurant they will have their dinner.
Another year passed Athrun and Cagalli became fast friends and Athrun was now expressive than ever. Since they became friends, they always have a practice match together obviously Cagalli always lost but she never stops challenging him. At the end of the day Athrun keeps teasing Cagalli that result to them barking at each other. Their friendship was also extended to the rest of the gang and every weekend they all go out to a café and hang out. Even Yzack sometimes join the argument of the two but he always side with Cagalli as he enjoys seeing Athrun lose sometimes with Cagalli.
"Someday I will definitely defeat you!" Cagalli said as she pours hot sauce on her kebab.
"Go ahead I'm ready anytime but now you will have to pay for my meal since you lost" Athrun responded
"Come on Cagalli…You'll never win against Athrun" Nicole responded
"You just end up hurting yourself you're such a brat" Yzack commented
"Well Athrun you should treat Cagalli with care she is still a beautiful lady" Dearka said as he taps Athrun's shoulder
"Lady? When?" Athrun smirked
"Hey!How dare you!" Cagalli blurted out
"Her punches are stronger than an ordinary man, her fashion doesn't show any lady like and she talks manlier than Nicol" Athrun said
"Whaat?! How dare you! You never saw me wear girly stuff cause it's not appropriate wearing one especially if I will kick high and I don't need to wear such flashy things because I don't need such to live."
"I should take offense on what you said about me Athrun…but yeah Cagalli sometimes you never act like a lady. It would be better maybe sometimes to show you feminine side and challenging Athrun you'll never win against him." Nicole said as he drinks his tea
"Woow! Seriously you guys are being jerks right now. Specially you Athrun SENPAI, the first time we met you can't even talk to women. Now look at you acting such a jerk and never a gentleman."
"Cagalli, nothing actually changed it's just that you are very different from any other ladies and actually this should be a compliment that I feel comfortable talking to you. Besides, that's one reason why you will never win against me…because physically we are in advanatge and you are a girl." Athrun said and smiled
"So, you're saying that because I'm a girl I can't at all? Is that it?" Cagalli voice became louder that somehow attracts other customer.
"Shhh..Cagalli…babe keep you voice down" Dearka asked her as he calm her down
"Nope, that's it! I challenged you Athrun Zala! Next week we will have a one-on-one who ever lose will do whatever the winner says!" Challenged by Cagalli
"Now that's interesting" Yzack said
"Cagalli….calm down first and rethink the situation" Nicol also now trying to calm her.
"Alright then, challenged accepted" Athrun extended his arm to Cagalli to close the deal.
"Athrun! Seriously?!" Dearka tried to stop them but failed.
After shaking their hands as agreement Cagalli paid for Athrun's share and before leaving she made a speech that left her male friend dumbfounded.
"You men will soon realize that women can do the same thing as men. Women can defeat men at any cost. You might have physical advantage here but we women always tried our best to be on top no matter what it takes and I will show that to you! One more thing! Women's are not defined by the way they dress and look! I don't need that flashy outfits and make up to succeed in my life!" Cagalli said with an outburst and left.
"Athrun…. all this time you've been holding back yourself when you are having practice with Cagalli right?" Yzack said
"Yeah…but I won't be easy on her this time." Athrun said
"You guys never know how to treat women" Dearka said as he finished eating his share.
"Make sure still to not hurt her" Nicole advised
"I will never hurt Cagalli. You all know that…this could be in my advantage to tell her the truth" Athrun said and lowered his head
"Tsk…Whatever lover boy" Yzack said as they prepared to leave.
Since the day Cagalli seriously challenged Athrun, she never attended their club practice. The news was spread among club members and just laughed about it. Some fans of Athrun actually go there and cheer him more since Cagalli was not around. Ladies throw themselves to him when they have a chance but when Athrun was with Cagalli nobody had the guts to do so.
Even though Cagalli is tomboyish she is a natural beauty and all women felt defeated when she was around. She was beautiful, smart and strong, though Cagalli don't care much of that but she and the rest of the gang was actually pissed on how those girls throw themselves at him. Now more ladies are screaming at the door every time Athrun kick and punch. The owner of the club did not care much as it actually made their club much more famous.
"Hey, it's been three days since Cagalli challenged you and she never showed up for practice you think she gave up?" Nicole asked Athrun while wiping his sweat.
"I don't think she is a person who backs down at a challenge though" Athrun said as he drinks some water
"Kyaaaaah…His drinking some water sooooo cool!"
"Athruuuuuun…..look here!"
"Athruuun….Marry me"
"Aaaaaah I can see his bare chest!"
Ladies are seriously shouting just to get his attention and other members are irritated as they can't concentrate on their practice. Most specially the white-haired guy, sometimes he shouts back at them as he himself keeps on messing up. Dearka actually enjoys it as some girls also give him some letters and foods. Their gang was really worried to Cagalli and so they decided to visit her home after practice.
"Will you all shut up!" Yzack shouted at them and made them stop squealing for some time.
"Hahahahahaha…Come on Yzack! Be gentle these ladies are here to support us" Dearka winked at them and in an instance they all screamed again
"I seriously don't believe this that one day I'll be saying this but It's better If Athha is here" Yzack said
"Let's go and visit her, somethings not right" Nicol said
"…." Athrun never commented as he is also worried to Cagalli.
They managed to escaped the crowd and was on their way to the Attha's house. Athrun lead the way as for the past months as he has been escorting Cagalli back to her home. When they reached her house, they rang the bell on their gate but no one answered. They waited for and press again the button but still no answer they did it for 30 minutes and was more worried than ever.
"Hello young men I see you've been standing here for a while now is there a problem?" A lady asked them
"We are friends of Athha and we are paying a visit." Yzack answered
"Oh…I see are you also from the karate club?" She asked as she noticed their bags with the name Heliopolis Karate Club.
"Yes Ma'am" Nicole answered
"Oh…my name is Myrna, I'm sorry to delay you but the Athha's are not there anymore."
"Whaat?" Athrun asked almost screaming with shock.
"Chill…" Dearka whispered
"Well Uzumi's child had an accident the other day and was rushed in to the hospital. As far as I know It would take three months for recovery so they decided to move near the hospital." Myrna said to them.
"Do you know where they moved?" Dearka asked. They are observing Athrun as he was now shaking and clenching his fist.
"Oh my…I'm sorry I was not able to ask but I heard it's outside Orb. They're rushing so we're not able to ask."
They thanked the lady and left Athrun suddenly punched the nearest wall he reached. He was sobbing hysterically; they never saw him uncomposed like this. They're all worried and has no information about her they all decided to call it a day and went their separate ways. The next morning, they asked Mwu the Club owner about Cagalli and he did confirm that her father terminated Cagalli's membership from their club.
Athrun was more devasted as he was not able to protect Cagalli when she needed him the most just like his mother. She called his technique savior but the very person he wants to protect was now suffering and he can't even support her. His goes to club but was not doing anything and was just staring at the wall and the place where he and Cagalli practice a lot.
It has been exactly a week when Cagalli challenged Athrun and this was supposed to be the day they will fight. Athrun was like a zombie walking around, he never eats and he rarely sleeps. His body was at its weakest and he is emotional unstable. The gang tried to cheer him up but they also are not feeling well, Cagalli's presence made people around her smile and feel comfortable so her missing in their club plus having accident was very devastating to everyone.
Still girls are screaming and flashing them selves to Athrun, they even celebrated knowing Cagalli is no longer part of their club. Athrun heard about it and it pissed him off but Yzack did the job screaming and scolding them. It did not stop the ladies to still come to the club but they never talked back about Cagalli. It's already night and everyone went home except for Athrun and his friends hoping that someone will appear for the challenge.
"Hey! Let's go…" Yzack said as he walks towards the door.
"My father was already having his investigation about accidents around Heliopolis so don't worry" Dearka said.
"…"
Athrun did not respond at all but he just followed them and went straight home. Athrun was greeted by their maids and informed him he was being summoned by his father. He showered first, changed to his pajama and went directly at his father's office. After knocking he opened the door and inside the room revealed two man standing, his father and an unfamiliar face.
"Father…I'm sorry to interrupt they said you called for me?"
"Yes, let me introduce you to my business partner…soon to be the father of your wife." Patrick Zala said
"What!? I apologize for my rudeness but I will never marry anyone except for the person I love!"
"Athrun! Watch your mouth and hear me out!" Patrick scolded him.
"No! I already followed every rule in this house, and whatever you want me to do but not this time I will fight for my love" Athrun answered back. Him defying his father shocked Patrick but made him smile, It means he really love this person.
"I think you need to calm down son, the marriage is not yet settled you will meet her tonight she was actually waiting for you but it's not yet final." The bearded man said
"I'm really sorry I'm pretty sure your daughter is beautiful but I already have someone in my heart"
"I understand, well Patrick we will be leaving for now" the man said and left. As soon as he leaves the room nobody talks between the two.
"I thought you might want to marry her…I was doing it for you." Patrick breaks the ice
"I already love someone whatever you want me to do in the future I will do it but not marrying another person"
"Well…I hope this will not ruin my partnership with the Attha's. It was a big lost I thought you wanted to marry that lioness." PAtirck said and as soon as Athrun heard him his eyes widened.
"A-Athha's?"
"Yeah…That's Uzumi Nara Athha, the owner of Archangel Engineering Company."
"He….His daughter you said was here…"
"Right…why?"
"Her name?"
"Cagalli…Cagalli Yula Athha, she was waiting at the dining room-"
Athrun did not gave his father a chance to finish what he was about to say and dashed towards their dining room but no one is already there. He asked their maids about their visitors and said they're in their parking lot. He run as fast as he could but he already heard an engine starting and his body was weak due his lack of sleep and not eating properly.
He saw the van that was about to leave and he followed it, he run and screamed her name but he lost sight of the van. He never felt defeated like this before, he fell on his knees and was crying. It was Cagalli, his Cagalli but then again, he let her go. He was crying at the middle of the road when someone tapped his shoulder. He faced the person touching him and he was shocked to see the person he loves the most.
A blond girl smiling towards him with her bright red cheeks and curious brow was staring at him. Without further ado he hugged her very tight. He hopes it's not a dream and if it's a dream he doesn't want to wake up anymore. The girl hugged him back and has been comforting the sobbing man with her. The moment he calms down they pushed each other from their hug and stared at each other.
"Is it really you Cagalli?" Athrun asked
"Yes…who else could it be?"
"I was worried sick" Athrun was now holding Cagalli's hand I thought I lost you.
"Hahahahaha what're you talking about?"
"But lady Myrna said…that you had an accident and left Orb."
"Oh…you got it wrong…it was my brothe Kira. We are having a practice-match and I accidentally hurt his eyes. His ophthalmologist office was in Montgomery which is just outside Orb." She explained. They went on the nearest bench they could find and sat down.
"You moved out… and quit the club."
"I have to take care of my brother Kira but we will be back after his recovery."
"You did not tell me…"
"Well we don't actually have each other's phone numbers since my father also doesnt want me to have one and my father panicked so we rushed to the hospital in Heliopolis and then after first aid treatment we went at Montgomery for his recovery…"
"Oh…I'm glad you're okay."
"So…. you about our challenged? Shall we do it now" she smiled
"No… I already admit my defeat."
"Wha—at? Why?"
"I'm not physically fit right now…I lost appetite since you left and has been lacking sleep"
"Hahaha really I'm touched! But I don't feel satisfied though"
"Then just punch me or slap me" Athrun said as he squeezes Cagalli's hand. Cagalli had her chance so she hit his head his arm and lastly his chest. Athrun did felt pain with her punch "she really did become stronger." He thought
"Hmmm… you did look in pain so that made me happy" Cagalli laughed.
"So, what do you want me to do?"
"Hmmm…well I just want you to make sure you will be by my side forever"
"Oh…Cagalli…about the arranged marriage."
"Yeah I heard you already have someone you like. I mean father did pushed me too about this but I have no choice because I want to see you too."
"Cagalli…I love you…you are the only person I want to be with forever"
"Whaa-What?! But you just turned down our marriage meeting! You know how I felt so ashamed? Now your telling me you love me?"
"Well, First I did not know it was you so I turned it down. Second, even if I know it's you, I don't want you to marry me because of our company. I want you to fall for me."
"Wha—Idiot"
"Cagalli…I was so devastated when I thought you had an accident and I was not able to support and protect you. From now on, I promise to protect you and support you forever" Athrun said as he reached for Cagalli's cheeks.
A tear fell from Cagalli's eyes, her cheeks was bit red she holds Athrun's hand and smiled. Athrun was shocked by her tear and was panicking.
"Ca—Cagalli?"
"Idiot…I already fell for you Athrun"
"Re-really? Since when?"
"The moment you hit me…"
"What?! Are you a masochist?"
"No…the fact that you are serious in teaching me…that you would hurt me even though I'm a girl means a lot to me. My father and brother were very protective so I was happy when you treated me fairly." Cagalli explained while Athrun was wiping her tears.
"You….?"
"I was attracted to you the moment you entered the club" he said and smiled.
"Tsk…idiot so what will you ask me to do if I lost."
"I want you to be my girlfriend." He said and smiled
"Wha-are you serious a while a go you don't want me to be with you just because of arrange marriage now you're telling me that!"
"Well…It's a way for you to fall for me though" he smiled "So…can I have the honor to be your boyfriend?" he asked
"Idiot…"
"I'll take that as a Yes…" He then cupped Cagalli's face and kiss her forehead then down to the tip of her nose and lastly on her lips.
Athrun was having a blissful feeling right now. He wasn't sure if she felt the same way as he is but he was sure happy to hear she felt the same way. It seems that he made the right decision, on hitting Cagalli when they're practicing, he was doubtful to hurt her because he likes her and she was a girl but she showed that she was serious about the club and so he did.
Athrun escorted Cagalli back to the van and he saw her father waiting. He explained to Uzumi his current relationship with Cagalli which made her blush but they both received his blessing. They arranged another meeting with everyone once Kira recovered. They exchanged contact information as they will still be having a long-distance relationship.
Athrun informed the gang the whole story and congratulated him. They joked about him losing to Cagalli and how he cried, Yzack specially was enjoying teasing Athrun. He has been practicing more than ever while waiting for Cagalli to come back. He became closer to his father since Patrick was happy knowing the girl he like; was the same girl he wants him to marry.
"So…How did she fell for you" asked Patrick
"I hit her…"
"What?! Athrun!"
"We we're practicing at the club…"
"What would Uzumi say about this!"
"It's okay…We already have his blessing as I said. Besides, it was the best that I hit her."
"Why?"
"Because the moment I hit her, it went directly to her heart" he said and smiled back to his father.
Patrick laughed on how cheesy Athrun was when it comes to his girl but he can't ask for more. Athrun phone buzzed and so he asked to leave to answer his phone. Definitely it was Cagalli, the way his eyes shine and he smile definitely means it her.
"Hey...If it isn't my Goddess" Athrun said as he answered the phone
"Tsk…Athrun stop it" Cagalli said from the other side. She is still not use to his cheesy words.
"Today's your birthday right?" Cagalli suddenly asked.
"Yeah...Where my gift...?"
"What do you want?"
"You..."
"Idiot...I love you!"
"I love you too…"
"…I'll hit you once we meet"
Athrun just laughed and they chatted for a s long as they can.
