In A World Of My Own – Chapter 10 – The End Of Kurt's Journey / A Final Farewell
Thursday 6th May 2021 – (Wonderland Kingdom) 12pm - Afternoon
Dave Hatter was wide awake laying next to Kurt, taking in his every movement and breath. Studying how soft the sounds he made were, how soft his lips were when they kissed, his skin when they hugged, his smile when he made him laugh.
Dave had to think about all these moments so much more now and keep them in his memory forever, because today was the day Kurt went home for good and he didn't want to say goodbye.
He wanted to run away and cry. He knew this day was coming but it felt so soon and sudden. They had only been on a few dates, and he enjoyed Kurt's company so much. He never felt so loved in all his life.
Just then Queen Quinn knocked on the door quietly. Dave kissed Kurt's sleeping head getting up to open it.
"Hi" she smiled "I bought you some tea"
Dave smiled sadly taking the cup from her hand "Thank you"
She sighed sadly. Dave had always been like a brother to her. She knew how happy Kurt had made him and had seen what they were like together. She knew his heart had to be breaking slowly.
"I….I'm sorry Dave" she said hugging him tightly.
Dave hugged back "Thank you. I just, I'm not ready for him to leave yet"
She smiled wiping his tears "I understand"
Just then Kurt yawned waking up himself. Dave and Quinn both smiled at him happy.
"How you feeling hero?" Queen Quinn giggled.
Kurt giggled pushing himself up a little "Sore but mostly okay thanks"
Dave smiled "You were amazing"
Kurt smiled back blushing "Thank you, I just knew what was a risk as all, and I couldn't loss you"
With that Dave thought about the fact that he would be losing Kurt after all. He teared up again and scared to cry. Quickly running out of the room down into the kingdom garden.
Kurt looked at Quinn a little sad and confused "Did I say something wrong?" he asked her.
Queen Quinn shocks her head "No not at all. He is just going to miss you. He's never really had a boyfriend and he just got so use to you being here. We…..We all did" she added feeling sad herself.
Kurt smiled feeling sad too "I knew. I love it here I don't want to leave I love this place more than home, and if it was not for my dad then I would agree to stay in a heartbeat. I will miss Dave like crazy. I love him so much and...God I don't know"
Quinn hugged him tightly "I know. You will have to send a phone down when come back so we can all keep in touch yes?"
Kurt smiled giggling "Yes"
Then Kurt had an idea. A crazy, one but an idea.
He quickly got out of bed running over to the desk in his room, grabbing his own phone out of the draw.
"What are you doing?" Quinn asked confused.
Kurt smiled "I'm telling my dad the truth for once"
Quinn giggled leaving.
With that Kurt phoned his dad hoping and praying for an answer. And thankfully after 10 minutes of panic he finally got one.
"Hey my boy, how was your friend's sleep over?" Burt asked smiling.
Kurt gulped "Dad don't freak out, but there was no friend or sleep over"
"What?!" Burt replied in shock "So where are you?! Who are you with!" he shouted.
Kurt giggled; which was probley not the best thing to do when his dad was worried, but he couldn't help it when he was nervous he laughed. "I'm with friends that much was true but….here is where things get weird. You know the abounded house?"
"Yes the one next store to ours" he replied.
"Well I followed a rabbit girl to the tree there and fall down a magic hole. Then when I woke up, I was in the place called wonderland with all these magical people who needed me to say them from the evil Queen of hearts, Queen Rachel. So I stayed to helped them and yesterday we had a battle where I killed here and got a sweet, handsome boyfriend named Dave hatter. And that is were I have been" he explained.
Burt just sat in silent. Confused about what his son had just told him; and possibly how many drugs he had taken.
"Kurt…are you high?"
Kurt laughed "No"
"Did you hit your head or something?" he asked next
"No Dad. Look I know it sounds crazy….But I swear I am telling the truth" he replied.
"Son I-"but before he could carry on he heard Kurt sigh down the other end of the phone. Kurt had made up stories before. He was creative. But this? This felt different, real.
"Dad I know what you're thinking but I swear I-"but this time Kurt was cut off.
"I….I believe you. I don't know why or how but I do. Can I come and see you?"
Kurt smiled happily "Yes! The hole is by the tree all you have to do is let yourself fall"
Burt laughed smiling "Okay this is crazy. But I am on my way"
Kurt smiled handing up and quickly got changed. Once that was done he rand as fast as his feet could take him to the front of the wonderland magic hole.
Burt gulped arriving at the hole by the tree. It was so deep and looked like it went on for a while. Never the less he let himself jump in and fall down at a fast pace.
Kurt saw and quickly caught his hand at the bottom to keep him from falling.
"You made it!" Kurt smiled.
Burt smiled "Kurt!" he hugged him tightly smiling "I….I can't believe it"
Kurt smiled hugging him back "I know, it took me a while too, but it's the most amazing place"
Burt smiled following Kurt around. Where Kurt explained more to him about what happened and why he stayed there. He showed him Dave's hat shop and told him all about him.
He told of the people who lived here, and the places they had been to, and the big story of the battle that had happened.
Burt was still in shock. This is something Kurt would usually make up in his head to pass the time, but this time it was all real.
Kurt took him into the kingdom smiling at him. "This is where I have been staying. The White Queen invited me here but before that I was staying in the hat shop I showed you" he smiled.
As Kurt was then about to lead him to the dining hall Queen Quinn come running towards him.
"Kurt! Thank god I found you. I talked to Dave he is okay now, still sad but better than he was" she smiled.
Kurt smiled "Thank you, Umm I hope you don't mind but I invited my dad here to show him around"
Quinn smiled "Of course. Welcome Mr Hummel, your son has down so much for Wonderland, he is our hero"
Kurt smiled blushing. Burt smiled back at her. He never saw Kurt so happy.
"Thank you" Burt replied.
With that Kurt showed his dad around the kingdom.
Meanwhile Dave hatter came out of his room; where Quinn left him after they had their talk. He went up to Queen Quinn in the dinner hall "Can I use the hall?" he asked her smiling.
Quinn smiled "Of course what for?" she asked.
Dave blushed "I like to throw Kurt a goodbye party with all of his friends. I want him to be showered with gifts and stories…because I knew he has to leave but I want it to be good for him"
Quinn teared up "That's a lovely idea. I will get everybody together"
"Perfect" Dave replied "I will do decorations and foods"
"Okay, oh! Just for the heads up as well Kurt's dad is here so make a good impression and dress nice!"
With that Quinn got all the people that Kurt liked and got to know in Wonderland all together and told them to be at the party in a hour's time. Meanwhile Hatter cooked all the food Kurt loved making him a big cheesecake and decorated the hall with colourful ribbons and balloons.
By half seven everybody had arrived wearing their best clothes all happy and sad at the same time. Brittany Rabbit, Santana Cheshire, Sebastian Dee and Sam White all sat around the main table waiting.
"Okay is everybody ready?" Quinn asked.
Everybody smiled at her, means a big yes. So with that Queen Quinn smiled and ran upstairs to get Kurt.
"Kurt can I borrow you for a moment please, you can bring your dad" she said.
Kurt smiled "Of course"
So with that Kurt and his dad followed Queen Quinn into the hall.
"SURPRISE!" everybody shouted at him.
Kurt stood there smiling "OMG Quinn this is amazing!"
Quinn smiled "It was Dave's idea. He wanted you to have a good goodbye from everybody"
Kurt blushed running over to Dave hugging him tightly "Thank you so much. I love you"
Dave smiled back blushing "I loved you too. Sit I have made you favourite foods"
Kurt smiled sitting, whiled Burt went up to Dave; making Kurt feel a little worried.
"So you are the boyfriend?" he asked Dave.
Dave gulped "Yes sir"
Burt smiled "And you love Kurt?"
Dave smiled looking at Kurt "Yes sir. With all my heart"
Burt smiled patting him on the shoulder "Good. Nice hat"
"Thank you" Dave replied smiling cutting a piece of cake for Kurt as both sat.
Burt sat there watching Kurt eat cake and talk to Dave and the others, and he talked to the Quinn Queen about more information about why they thought Kurt was a hero.
He looked so at home here, so happy. At his real home Kurt was all of his own against the world. He couldn't really be himself and had no friends and of course no boyfriend. But here, here Kurt was free.
Boyfriend, friends and all. Happy and joyful.
Kurt sighed sadly looking at the time and then at Dave. "I…I have to go now" he said letting a tear fall from his face.
Dave started to cry too hugging him tightly "Goodbye Kurt. I love you"
With that they shared a kiss. Long and with passion and love in it.
After that Kurt hugged everybody else and stopped looking at the Queen Quinn.
He was just about too huge her when Burt stopped him.
"Is something wrong Mr Hummel?" Queen Quinn asked.
"Do, do you have an education place here?" he asked.
She smiled "Yes, why?"
Burt smiled looking at Kurt "Kurt you belong here. You are so happy and loved here and I wouldn't lie I'm going to miss you every day but I….I can't keep you from being this happy"
Kurt smiled crying "I….I can stay?"
Burt smiled hugging him "You can stay"
Kurt smiled running into Dave's arms "I CAN STAY!"
Dave smiled hugging him back "YOU CAN STAY!"
Quinn smiled "My gifts will come in handy then" she said showing Kurt two gold long mirrors. "One for you and one for your dad. "You can walk through them to go from Wonderland to home"
Burt smiled "This is amazing thank you so much"
She smiled "Your welcome"
As it got later and everybody left, Kurt set up his mirror in his new room, and Burt gave him one last hug and returned home with his smiling; knowing he had down the right thing.
Kurt smiled and looked at Dave "Ready for our next chapter?"
Dave smiled happily "More than ready"
And for once Kurt believed it. He had a boyfriend, and friends. He was accepted and loved for who he was. He was happy, and ready to start his new life with new people.
