Hey guys. Thanks for the reviews!
I don't own Maid Sama! or any of its characters.
They stepped back, horrified. Usui pulled Misaki back, in efforts to flee to the safety of the other side of the bridge; his instinct screaming for him to run, his keen sixth sense developed from all the time he spent on the streets.
But Misaki wasn't deterred; she pulled against him, struggling against his strong grip, all the while trying to speak to the woman in front of them, who didn't seem to hold an ounce of recognition in her murderous expression.
"Are you alright? Can you understand what I'm saying?"
"Ayuzawa, look, I really don't think her understanding you is the top priority now….run!"
The woman had lunged forward, her lips pulled back into a wicked snarl. Misaki finally relented; and then they were running flat-out along the crude suspension bridge. But they weren't fast enough; in the short time Misaki had hesitated, the woman had sprinted with surprising agility; and seeing no other option, the two jumped off the side of the bridge.
Landing on a wide moss-covered branch, they ran again when the woman jumped too, landing right behind them. Misaki pulled out her phone, calling the ZPD, which she had on speed-dial.
The phone rang for a long time, with Usui glancing at her every few seconds, exasperated and surprised that a police department would take so long to answer a call. Where on earth was the operator?
"Ugh, Shintani, just pick up already!"
Usui caught her mumble despite them running helter-skelter from a mad woman, the muttered words almost sounding like a growl.
He turned forward, and saw a shining beacon of hope; there was a tram, the damp place lighted by a single lamppost. Misaki on the other hand, had finally got an answer; she was now yelling the address into the phone, panting slightly.
Without thinking, he grabbed Misaki, causing the phone to drop from her hand; and it fell over the side of the branch, the panicked voice of Shintani still faintly heard. Disregarding it, he pulled her, and then left her hand as she got the hint; and they raced towards the nearing tram.
But having shorter legs was an unfortunate disadvantage; the woman caught up easily to Misaki, who was lagging behind Usui already; in a desperate attempt to outrun the woman, she leapt away. But she slipped, and slid across the slippery floor. But then she almost fell over the side, managing to grip onto the surface at the last minute; which left her hanging off it, scrambling for purchase. She quickly tried to pull herself up, hoping she'd be able to somehow stop the deadly woman; who was now advancing on Usui, the knife held up to attack.
Usui yanked open the tram door, turning back to see that Misaki wasn't right behind him; she was behind the woman, trying to pull herself up from the side of the boards.
And even more bad news; the woman was now facing him, and that knife did not look friendly.
He readied himself, bending his knees slightly and put his arms in front of him, knowing that he probably might be able to hold the woman off, even though he wouldn't be able to use his normal verbal attack; the woman didn't look like she would understand a word he was saying if he tried. The woman pulled the knife back, obviously aiming to slice it through his throat or somewhere fatal; and he clenched his fist, ready to take the blow.
But before the woman could swing it forward, she was pulled down mid-jump, and smashed down onto the floor, the knife clattering against the wooden boards.
Looking up from the floored woman, he saw her leg handcuffed- no wait, rather leg-cuffed-to the lamppost, with a wide-eyed Misaki behind her, her face as white as a sheet.
He crept around the woman, warily glancing at her closed eyes and chest rising up and down with heavy breaths.
But he hadn't moved quick enough; the woman suddenly opened her eyes, and pounced on him with amazing ability; making Usui wonder whether she would have been able to do that before she seemingly lost her mind. He missed the blade in her outstretched hand by mere millimeters; and in the process skid across the boards just as Misaki had, now pushing her off the edge along with him. She managed to grab onto a vine hanging in the nick of time, holding onto Usui with the other; leaving them swaying a few meters under the bridge, held by the surprisingly strong Vine.
Looking around them, Misaki spotted a jumble of vines in the direction they swinging; then she looked down at Usui's relieved face.
"I'm going to let go."
"Yeah, okay...No wait, what?"
She let go of the vine, the movement propelling them forward; and they fell right onto the tangle of vines. She looked at Usui, who was looking shocked.
"Ayuzawa, you...saved my life!"
"Oh, what can I say. It's our job at the ZPD-eeeeee!"
The vines had given away; turns out not all of them were that strong.
They hurtled downwards, and got caught into another tangle of vines; but this time, they got tangled in them; they unravelled as they fell, and soon they were hanging over a road, upside-down; having a front seat view of police vehicles piling into the roadway.
"I'm telling you, sir. The woman had lost her mind! One minute, she was a frightened, and doubtful person; the next minute she'd become a devil, maniacal person, and didn't seem to remember who we even were. I'm telling you, sir, she went savage."
They were walking towards the trams, Misaki and Chief Cedric being followed by a few dozen other police officers and Usui. Her attention was brought back by the sarcastic response from the chief.
"Right, and that's a very common occurrence. Why on earth would a person suddenly change like that?"
"Well, even I didn't believe it at first; until I saw this."
She pulled back a few leaves obscuring their view of the trams; only to see the place was bare, with no handcuffs and no woman in sight; only the lamppost, shining innocently.
"What?! But, the woman was right here, I don't know where she went-"
"...That's...it, Ayuzawa. It's very clear that you're not up to the job."
"But sir-"
"No, Ayuzawa. Give me the badge."
Ah ah, so sad. I'm feeling sad for her, again...
Now, I wanted to say something. I put in Romance as a genre for this fic for a reason, and you guys will probably get to know what I mean in the next chapter. Just saying.
Sdohshi Designer, about that; how about I make an alternate plot for this story, where the characters are half-animals, and where the plot with predators and prey remains unchanged? As for the rest of you guys who are reading this story, if you want the same thing where the characters are half-animals, please tell me in reviews so that I can post it as a separate story on under a different title.
Anyway, please review, guys!
