Hello guys! I promise it'll get interesting after this.

I don't own Maid Sama! or any of its characters.

Misaki looked at the chief, desperate.

"But...I-"-

"No buts, Ayuzawa. Badge. Now."

"But sir, I could give you proof! Usui!"

She turned to the blonde, who was standing in the midst of the crowd of police officers, watching silently. He opened his mouth to speak, but was cut off as soon as he did so.

"You want me to believe the words of this punk? You better give me something better than that, Ayuzawa. Now, the badge."

Misaki looked at him for a full minute, eyes pleading. Seeing as the cold glare he gave didn't relent, she slowly diverted her eyes, her hands reaching up to her pinned badge.

"No."

"What?"

Misaki looked up, and saw Usui, who had come forward, wearing the same blank expression as ever. What is he-

"I said no, she will not be giving you that badge."

The chief looked at the man, who strode forward, hands in his pockets; and came to a stop right in front of Misaki, who looked up at him as he went on.

"Now, this was a case that you assigned to Officer Ayuzawa here, and she was supposed to finish it and close it in what, 48 hours? And that was when you all couldn't find this missing person in two weeks? And she was on thus case, alone, without being able to get any help, and had to find help herself. And now, you're asking to hand over her badge, even before her 48 hours are over? That's quite unfair, chief. If I'm correct, there must be...let's see, 14 hours left. So we'll be going now, Chief, to find this missing person within these 14 hours. Good day to you."

Saying thus, Usui gave him a two-finger salute, and then proceeded to the nearing cable car. Misaki looked back at the chief, who was looking down at her, his blank stare piercing her. She turned abruptly, and followed Usui, who had opened the door for her, a small smile on his face.

She entered the car wordlessly, glancing at him once before she rested her arms on the rails. He followed her too, and leaned on the rails too, facing away from her.

"Thank you."

He turned to her slightly, looking at her sideways; and then turned back to look at the scenery in front of them.

"Always make sure that they never get to you."

She paused.

"So...things...do get to you?"

Imagining a vulnerable Usui was rather hard to do.

"Hmm, not...now. I'm not as emotionally unstable now, but...once upon a time ago."

"How surprising."

"No, it's true. I was...eight? No, nine, I think."

Misaki watched as he let out a puff of air, his hair starting to dry and un-plastering itself from his forehead, where they had stuck because of their wet adventure.

"My dream, my sole dream, was to enter the Junior Ranger Scouts," he started.

"My mom had scraped enough to buy me a new uniform. I entered the building with high hopes; though I can't say the same about my condition when I came out."

Misaki blinked at this.

"I was really happy at first; I joined the people there, and took my pledge genuinely. Even if they were all dark-haired people, a stark contrast to my falsely accused blonde."

Misaki turned away at this. It can't be...

"But when I finished my pledge, they did something expectedly unexpected to my naive younger self; they shoved me down to the ground, and called me a vile person; a person not worthy of anyone's trust; and it was all because of such a trivial thing as my hair colour."

Oh no...

"Then they produced some handcuffs; don't ask me from where, I still have no idea; and cuffed me, gagged and blindfolded me. I didn't know that there were kids of my age who were capable of doing such things."

Misaki looked at him, horrified.

"Then all I know after that is that I felt a sting to my arm, and I jerked as I felt like I was electrocuted; I think it was a taser, actually; and then I fainted."

"When I woke up, my handcuffs were thankfully removed, somehow; and I took off the gag and blindfold, and sobbed my eyes out. I realized that, wherever I go, whenever it was, I would always be treated as...an untrustworthy, conniving, dirty blonde who can never, ever, chase his dreams; all because of hair colour. I'm actually surprised that your chief Cedric was able to attain his position, what with his blonde hair. Probably pulled through with a lot of connections, or his capability was so high that they couldn't ignore it."

Misaki looked away, and then looked back at him. He was looking down at the dense knot of highways they were now crossing; she hadn't even noticed that they'd left Rainforest district already.

She swallowed back the words she wanted to say. What good would they do, anyway?

She reached forward, debating whether it was a good idea or not.

Damn it.

She placed her hand on his, her eyes not leaving his surprised eyes, even when her cheeks started to turn pink. He watched her for a long moment, then turned his head away from her abruptly; his hand whipped out suddenly from underneath her warm, comforting hand.

She thought she had done something wrong and opened her mouth to say something, anything, to relieve the tightening in her chest; but stopped herself when she managed to catch a glimpse of the side of his face.

His cheeks had turned a flaming red; not only his cheeks, but his ears as well. His hand was on the lower part of his face, as if he were trying to hide it from her.

But she didn't get why he was suddenly embarrassed; was what she did so bad? She certainly had a reason to be flustered, but him?

"Ayuzawa gave me a surprise attack."*

His muttered words reached her ears, even though her head was buzzing from her embarrassment.

"Huh?"

"How can you be so cute like that?"

If Misaki had blushed before, the one that returned back was definitely tenfold. She felt her face grow burning hot, and she quickly turned away as well.

They stood silently, until Misaki felt the heat in her face ebb away.

"The...jam cams sure serve their purpose, huh?"

He looked at her side profile, her innocent, curious eyes looking at all the tiny vehicles moving across the criss-crossing roads.

His blush returned to his face, and he turned away again.

"Yeah."

Ooh, the feels~

So cute, seriously. Their feelings are finally blossoming...
