BANG

Hiccup shoots out of bed at the sound, and bolts downstairs to head of to the forge, where he is sure to be needed. Upon opening the door, he is forced to slam it shut to avoid being scorched to death. When he opens it again, he looks around to see vikings and dragons locked into tight combat. He quickly makes his way towards the center of town, where the forge is, and is greeted by his fellow vikings.

"What are you doing out!?"

"Get inside!"

"Get back inside!"

He carries on, ignoring the rude remarks, and finally reaches the forge, where he sees Gobber hard at work.

"Ah! Nice of you to join the party. I thought you'd been carried off." Classic Gobber, able to be lighthearted even in intense moments like these.

"Who me? Nah, come on! I'm way to muscular for their taste. They wouldn't know what to do with all this." Here is the sarcasm Hiccup is known for, flexing included.

"They need toothpicks, don't they?" Some may say that the relationship between Gobber and Hiccup is like father and son, and they would be right. Hiccup considers Gobber more of a father too him then Stoick, and for good reasons.

Outside, a house is hit by a flaming chunk of rock and bursts into flames. The fire brigade charges towards the house. The fire brigade is made up of all the other kids Hiccups age, Snotlout, Fishlegs, Ruffnut, Tuffnut and lastly, Astrid. He's always wanted to join the fire brigade, but is stuck in the forge.

"Man the fort, Hiccup, they need me out there!" His daydreaming is rudely ended by Gobber, who motions for him to stay and repair weapons. Which for once in his life he is perfectly happy to do. He remembers what happened last time.

As the raid winds down, it ends up being a total failure. Multiple vikings injured and severe damages to homes, livestock and crops and very few dead dragons.

Most vikings were disappointed with the outcome of the raid. But not Hiccup. He was quite happy with the outcome. He dreamed of a day where humans and dragons lived together, but was content with the fact that there was little death on either side. Still, seeing the 3 downed dragons hurt him, and he promised to them he would bring peace. He heads to the town center to see his father, Stoick, ordering people around and making sure repairs started right away. As Hiccup walks up, his face visible falls, expecting to hear that Hiccup destroyed something. But when Gobber tells the chief that Hiccup spent the entire raid fixing weapons in the forge, the chief is slightly less disappointed.

"See Hiccup, this is what happens when you do what you're told. This is one of the best outcomes to a raid we've had in ages. Now, if you only knew to fight. Maybe its time you join dragon training."

The color drains from Hiccups face. Dragon training. He'd have to kill dragons. While at the same time harboring the most powerful dragon known to man in a cove a few minutes walk from the village. He quickly tries to find a way out, but to no success.

"Uh, why can't I just stay as a blacksmith. I'm perfectly fine with where I currently am." He desperately wants, no, needs to get out of this.

"You can't be chief if you can't fight with your village in battle, Hiccup!" His father isn't having any of it.

"You'll join the other teens tomorrow for the beginning of training. I'll be doing one last expedition, before the ice sets in, understood. I better see good results, or there will be consequences." Hiccup has no way out of this one. He'll have to show the village what he has found, and if all else fails, abandon his village and run away.

"Fine, I'll join." He hates this. He swore he would avenge those dragons, and now, he has to train to fight and kill dragons.

Hiccup heads back home. He needs a plan, and now. He realizes that the entire village will soon be at the Mead hall discussing the next trip towards the nest. That would be the best time to show what he has learned.

"Dad, can I say a few words at the meeting tonight to help rally the troops?" He needs to have permission, otherwise it'll be nearly impossible.

"Sure son, just keep it brief. I have very important things to be doing." Good, he has his chance. Now, he just needs to hope nothing goes wrong. If he fails tonight, he may die. The fate of dragon and human kind rests in his hand.

When he arrives home, he grabs a few things, and heads into the forest. Little does he know, someone has been following him.
