Hi everyone! Sadly Gilmore girls does not belong to me or any of its characters I wish though! This is my first story so please take it easy on me, I've read fanfics for ages and got thislittle idea. I've changed some of the original story line from the show, For example let's say Jess never went to stay with Luke and instead he opened asmall bookstore in New York with a few friends. Also Jess is a few years older in this let's say he's 28 and I know in the series it was spring at this time but let's just say it was winter, November, Thanks for reading please tell me your thoughts in the reviews! -Maddi
Chapter 1
She missed him. It had only been 2 days and she had missed him. 2 days since she showed up at the diner and shoved that ultimatum down his throat. 2 days since she ran home from the diner feeling rejected and drowned herself in a very large bottle of whiskey alone.
She felt numb. Sick to her stomach. Se knew she had to do something she couldn't just lay here and let her self melt away. So she didn't.
She leaped out of her bed and yanked the suitcase out of the closet. She filled it with all her person stuff and enough close to last a few weeks. That's all she needed a few weeks to escape reality and get a break from it all.
When she finally managed to drag her suit case down the stairs, she nearly fell over the last step and broke her neck but quickly caught the hand rail and saved herself.
She threw her luggage in the backseat of the jeep, flung her handbag in the passenger seat and hit the road full speed ahead to New York City.
When she finally arrived at the big apple it was just past 7 that evening as she of course had to make at least 3 stops for food on the way there.
She parked her car in the garage of her parents New York apartment she was borrowing. Emily of course pestered her with questions as to why she would want to stay in New York for a few weeks and if Luke would be tagging along with her, Lorelai simply looked at her mother and quietly muttered "it's over mom, Luke and I...we're-" she was quickly interrupted by her mother "have a fun and safe trip lorelai, it might be good for you to have a small trip and...clear your head", lorelai smiled gratefully at her mother, as they both knew no more had to be explained.
When lorelai got through the front door of the apartment she knew right away where she was heading, and that was straight to bed, trying to catch a good nights sleep so she could wake up and explore some of the city she'd already been in 1000 times tomorrow.
After a very longs night or tossing and turning lorelai decided to just get out of bed at 6.30am, get a shower, get dressed and head out for the day.
She decided on wearing her black and white chequered blazer, a pair of black tights, her black Chelsea boots and a little black satin dress. She did her makeup natural with and added a warm tone blush (even though Rory very rudely told he blush was out) she'd curled her hair. She didn't know why but she had a weird feeling and decided she wanted to feel pretty today and she accomplished her mission.
Once she was dress she excited the apartment and headed down the 3 flights of stairs between the apartment and the ground floor. Lorelai had stayed in the Gilmores New York many times before and had been to almost all the stores and cafes within the few block radius' of the apartment so after spending the entire day shopping she headed back to the apartment miserable and kind of broke. She missed Luke.
As she was standing outside of the apartment complex she noticed one small red brick building with a sign saying "truncheon books" squeezed between two of the other big ones, she couldn't remember it being there before but thought the little store looked quirky and cozy and decided to head on over for a look.
She reached for the cheetah print door handle, which didn't go unnoticed by lorelai (who loved it) the bells above the door announced her entrance and immediately reminded her of Luke, that familiar pant of hurt in heart was felt again, she knew she was going to have to get used to that.
As she stepped more into the store, the first thing that caught her eye was rows and rows of gorgeous mahogany book shelves overflowing with authors from Jane Austen to Tom Wolfe to J.K. Rowling, she made a mental note to tell Rory about this place because she knew she'd love it.
As lorelai went to take another step a presents announced its self from what she assumed was a store room to behind the count, without looking up the young guy (lorelai guessed was in late twenty's, early thirties) let out a loud sigh and practically growled
"We're about to close in about...(looks at watch)...three minutes"
Lorelai couldn't help but notice the guy was kind of cute looking, maybe it was just his grumpiness reminded her of Luke, "oh sorry, I'll just come back tomorrow then."
At the sound of her voice his head snapped up like a twig and he was automatically taken away by her beauty,"...uhm...NO!..it's..uhm..it's fine I can stay an extra while..it's uh..it's fine"
"Are you sure? I'm fine to come back tomorrow I only live across the street?"
"No, honestly it's no problem I just live upstairs actually so..."
Lorelai smiled her unbelievably beautiful billion dollar smile, and he couldn't help but smile back. She walked around a couple of the shelves and picked up a book or too but he didn't notice as he was too busy paying attention to her beautiful eyes sparkling every time she saw something she liked or that looked cool.
He was staring that intently he didn't even notice that she was walking closer to register and him, well, he didn't notice until-
"Excuse me?Helloo Earth to you mr...man?"
He quickly snapped back to normal with Lorelai now staring at him
"Oh...ugh..Jess...that's my name, sorry, day dreaming"
"Well...ugh...Jess, it's fine, I thought you were caught in a transe there, it's fine"she laughs
He couldn't help but think what a beautiful laugh on a beautiful woman
"Nope no, DJ Budget Money here"he sighs, he was about to explain the refrence when she looked at him confused "it's a so-"
"Song, I know"she's smiles at him getting all nervous.
"Oh..Um..ok..would you like a bag?"
"No it's a fine I can carry it across the street, how much do I owe ya partner?"she says
"Don't worry about it, it's on me"he smiles
"What? No I can't-"
"Honestly it's fine I own the place don't worry about it"
"Are you sure?" She asks with a questionable look on her face
"Yes honestly it's no bother, it's actually a really good book I've read it like 7 times"
"Thanks so much, I really appreciate it"she thanks him with a mega-watt smile "well I better be going,..it's was uh...really good to meet you Jess"she batts her eyelashes out of habit
"You too ugh...?"
"Oh it's lorelai" she extends her hand to him, which he then takes and shakes
"Lor-el-lai"he streches out her name and can't help but think what a name for a girl like her
She smiles and waves as she pulls the door open
"Hey lorelai...would you ugh...would you like to go for a coffee tomorrow? With me I mean, well obviously I mean me, who hells would I be talking about-"
She can't hit giggle at his rambling, she puts a hand on his arm to stop him,"I'd love to"
He was suprised she said yes (little did he know so was she)"ok hers my number, call me later a time that works for you and we can meet at jacked up the coffee shop up the street?I know it sounds a little insane but it sells a hell of a espresso"
"That sound perfect and don't worry I like insane"she smirks at him" well Jess I'll see you tomorrow"
"Yeah, see you then"
Just as they did her entrance the bells announced her exit, Jess had a goofy grin on and sighed in his chair as he repeated her name "lorelaiiii"
She had the exact same little grin, as she let herself into the apartment the thought finally entered her head-
"Luke-" she gasped lightly to herself
