Gone Girl written by Kadyn
This is the story Gone Girl as written by Kadyn and published in 2014. It is being republished as it has now been beta'ed and edited and now finished by Rangerbabe21.
On Kadyn's Facebook page it says, "just write". I've found that I like to write for my own pleasure and have downloaded and modified other people's stories just for myself and my own listening pleasure. I have a cell phone app that reads web pages, word documents and pdf's and I have listened to stories off fanfiction all day long for almost two years, so I have listened to hundreds of stories. But a few are my favorite and I listen to them over and over. Gone Girl is one of these stories.
Just so you fully understand; I wrote the first 9 chapters to the end of Gone Girl just for myself. I would reread/listen to Gone Girl once a month because it is one of my top 10 favorite FanFiction stories and began imagining an ending. So please realize I wrote this for me but after a while I felt that other people would enjoy reading this as well and I do enjoy other people reading my writings so I have decided to share what I have done.
I want to start out by saying that this was all done with love and great respect for Kadyn who I feel is one of the best fanfiction writers I've had the pleasure to read. Please understand that I greatly respect her skills and know that I'm not nearly as good of a writer as I think she is. But I do try really hard.
Gone Girl by Kadyn was one of the first stories I read on FanFiction back when I discovered it. Her writing style is amazing. She really describes the people, places and emotions in such detail that you can't help but live the story as you read it.
The original story was unbetaed so after reading it several times I downloaded it and edited it, just for myself. In the editing process I made some changes to make the story line work and ironed out some of the discrepancies that were in the story. In the original story in Ranger's POV Steph took everything out of the safe but in Steph's POV she barely made a dent in all the money that was in there. In Ranger's POV the rental car was left a few blocks away but in Steph's POV they leave the rental car at the airport.
So, I have made changes to the story so it all flows and there are no inconsistencies. The biggest change I made to the story is Ron's phone call recorded by Julie and listened to by Ranger. Supposedly they are listening to the call recorded live but it was written originally in past tense 2nd person and didn't really work well. So, I rewrote it to be in first person present tense like they are listening to Ron speak and developed it a bit more.
After I edited the story, I made an outline of how I thought the story should finish. Over the past year working through the climax and Russia part I wrote nine more chapters to the story. Well I feel like I did a good job of keeping the characters the way Kadyn wrote them and after writing 160 pages (yeah, I like to write) I thought other people might like to read the story as well.
When I decided to publish what I wrote I began wrapping up the story writing another 20+ chapters and another 450 pages and it's not finished. I'm not done with it. I still have two more chapters to write. But I thought I would start publishing what I have written. I will start publishing a chapter a day and then go to a chapter a week until I get done.
This is sooooo hypocritical of me because I have my own unfinished story. But other writers will understand that the muse wants to work on what the muse wants to do. I will tell you that I think I tried to do too much summer stuff in Saving Stephanie and I got off track to what the story was supposed to be – their wedding and the aftermath of it and that is one reason I can't get back to it. I think I have to go back to my outline and get the story back on track.
Regardless I love to write. It makes me happy to write and share what I write with you. I am open to your reviews if you want to share your thoughts with me. Just remember that this story is already mostly finished, and your ideas are not going to shape it. I will tell you that I took all the hints in the story to make the story line continuous.
If you are going to complain or bash me for finishing someone else's story – I'll tell you now to stuff a sock in it and quit reading right now. As was mentioned when I wrote chapters 40-49 - I did it just for myself. When I began thinking about sharing the story, I finished writing it and I take no credit for the story. It is all Kadyn, her wonderful imagination and her fabulous writing style. I just took the characters she created and let them go do what they wanted and let them write the story.
I did my best to write the characters as Kadyn created them. This is a more emotionally on edge and motivated Ranger who is much more reactive (banging doors and knocking pictures off walls). She writes a strong and active Stephanie who has made many changes in her life and has worked hard to develop her skills and grow but she is still very insecure about Ranger and worries relentlessly about a lot of things. So that is how I wrote them.
I know that Kadyn mentions that she was going to wrap up the story in 5 to 8 chapters but if you have read my writing you know there is going to be drama and action so my version takes longer to wrap up.
The reality is that I wrote 32 more chapters, and some are very long. I planned on making my story no longer than her story that was 39 chapters and about 150,000 word. I kept making chapters longer and longer trying to keep the number down and once I got used to writing long chapters I just kept doing it. Well my part will end up being 32 chapters over 650 pages and it is already 250,000 words and I still have two chapters to write. I will apologize now for the long chapters I hope it doesn't put anyone off and that you find them interesting enough to keep reading.
I am reposting the original edited story in 10-chapter blocks. I hope that is not too much to read all at once. All the original authors notes, from Kadyn are included. Since this story is written I am going to post a chapter a day if I can. I am working and going to school. My work schedule is a little wonky and I'm trying to adjust to it so daily updates may not work. I may have to post extra chapters other days.
This is rated M for language, violence and sex scenes even if they aren't as good as Kadyn's; I tried. All the regular disclaimers. These characters are not mine yadda yadda yadda.
I did try to reach out to Kadyn on her FanFiction page before I posted this story, sharing the first 18 + chapters I'd written and asking her if she would write the honeymoon, because nobody writes sex as amazingly as Kadyn. She did see my post. I don't know if she read anything I wrote, but she never responded in anyway and she never asked me not to post it so I'm taking that as hope that she won't mind me sharing all I've written with you.
I will honestly tell you the truth. I have a very creative imagination but I'm not nearly as good of writer as Kadyn is. Part of me writing for myself and others is to improve my writing skills and style. But I am very aware that there are many much better writers than me. So, I don't need anyone telling me I'm not as good because I'm very aware of that fact. Still I humbly offer up what I've written for your enjoyment, entertainment and pleasure.
Once again, I send a big Thank You to my sister who did her excellent editing job on the original Gone Girl but her life has gotten crazy and she had to quit. So this story has also been helped along by my two beta's Susan and Cindy. They have been helpful in making my writing and formatting better. Their suggestions have been invaluable and helped the story along. Plus they have helped me keep the story straight and true to the characters Kayden wrote.
