Chapter 26

After questioning Myra, she finally admitted to helping her husband steal the nitrous oxide and confessing to incorrectly filing the cause of death to cover up murders. Her husband and then daughter needed to hurt people to help control their primal urges. They started with animals but advanced onto rough sleepers.

She tearfully explained how she came home one night to find her husband and eldest daughter suffocating Rebecca.

"She told us she couldn't stop them, and she didn't want to," Morgan explained.

She falsified her death certificate, indicating her death was from cardiac arrest. After killing Rebeca, they decided it was their calling to rid the town of disabled people.

"We have an APB out on Rose Duncan. We have searched her house and found what we think is her kill list. Local police and state police are now protecting everyone on the list. JJ, you need to stay by Emily. She had been added to the bottom of the list in pen." Hotch told the group

Emily started at Hotch as if she was going to argue with him but to everybody's surprise just accepted her wife as her bodyguard.

"Morgan and Rossi, I want you to take another run at Mr Duncan. See if you can find out where she might be." Hotch asked

"Hotch, can you keep an eye out for Emily? I'm going back to the house to get her medication. I forgot to put it in my bag this morning." JJ asked

He just smiled and nodded.

Pulling up, JJ noticed the front door ajar. Pulling out her cell phone, she dialled Emily.

"Sweetheart, I found Miranda's door ajar. I have a bad feeling send me back up. I will keep my phone on speaker in my pocket." JJ informed her wife, " You keep your pretty little ass in that police station. Do you hear me?" She warned her wife

Pulling her Glock out, she slowly pushed the front door open. She slowly entered, gun at the ready. She cleared the rooms as she walked through the bungalow. She heard a whimper coming from the patio. Sliding the patio door open, she found Miranda breathing in nitrous oxide through the mask on her face. Rose had a syringe of clear liquid stuck into her neck.

"That's far enough agent, throw your gun onto the grass. This is potassium chloride. It will stop her heart and kill her. Now don't dawdle, sweetie." Rose Duncan ordered

JJ knew help was on the way, so she threw her Glock onto the lawn as instructed.

"I understand why you are doing this, Rose," JJ told her

"How could you possibly know? They need putting out their misery. I can do that. Why don't you let me go if you understand?" Rose asked with interest

JJ took a deep breath and hoped Emily would forgive her

"You've seen my wife because she is on your list." Rose just nodded and indicated for her to continue

"I wish I could put my wife out of her misery. She pees her pants all the time, and trying to have a conversation with her is impossible. The worst thing for me is I haven't got laid in 5 months. I used to love her with all my heart, but now all I feel is anger. My life stopped the day she got diagnosed." JJ dramatically sighed

Rose looked at JJ and pulled the syringe out of Miranda's neck slightly.

Morgan tackled Rose to the floor while Rossi pulled the syringe out of her neck and removed the mask from her face.

Within five minutes, Miranda started to feel normal again. JJ sat at Miranda's side and held her hand, gently rubbing it.

"Thank you. It must have been hard saying all those things about Emily to save me." Miranda asked in a squeaky voice

"Yeah, it was even harder knowing she was listening to the whole conversation." She sighed a single tear fell down her cheek.

Eventually, her emotions got the better of her, and she burst into tears, dropping her head down into her hands. Suddenly JJ felt herself being pulled up, looking up. She saw Emily pulling her ion to her lap.

"Don't cry, and I'm proud of you, sweetheart. That must have been hell telling her everything like that." Emily brushed away the tears with the pads of her thumbs.

JJ burst out laughing as Emily's right thumb started to shake.

"See, even my thumb thinks your one terrifying little lady. I love you, Jennifer." Smirked Emily

"I love you too. You are a big nerd, but you are my big MS nerd." She kissed Emily ever so gently.

They had passed all the completed paperwork over to the police and now sat on the jet waiting for Emily's power chair to be loaded. Emily smiled at JJ and took her hand

"Guys! I we have something to tell you all." Emily announced

Everyone looked at Emily and waited for her announcement

" I resigned from the FBI this morning, and Jennifer has taken a year… leave of absence. As no doubt you have …[erm]….noticed over the past few months, things have worsened. I feel I have become a hindrance to…..[sniff],,,,,,,,,,,,, the team. We have decided that I am going to give stem cell treatment a try. Whilst it is experimental, I think….we think it is worth a try." Emily burst into tears, unable to finish.

JJ rubs her hand over her upset wife's back, trying to calm her.

"They do some medical stuff to get her stem cells into her blood. Once they are happy, they collect her blood and separate her stem cells and freeze them. Emily then needs ….[sniff]… chemotherapy to fully wipe out her immune system. They return her stem cells by drip, and then her body recovers over the next 3-6 months or longer. There is no guarantee it will work, but we think it's worth the chance to see if it helps improve her condition." JJ sniffed as she finished
