Chapter 23

Jack was sitting out at the spot where the boathouse used to be, trying to deal with what had happened at the hospital earlier. All of a sudden he heard an angry voice behind him;" Have you totally lost your mind, Jack Snyder? What is the matter with you?"

"Go away, Molly! Leave me alone!" said he irritated as he got up and turned around;" Nothing you say can make me any less angry!"

"Do you have any idea how much of a jackass you are?" scolded his friend and punched him against his shoulder;" You should be ashamed of yourself for what you said to my cousin!"

"I should be ashamed of myself?" asked Jack stunned;" Carly slept with somebody else and I'm the bad guy here, Molly? Are you kidding me?"

"She didn't sleep with anybody else and I can't believe that you would even think that!" answered she;" Carly loves you!"

"That's what I thought too until I found out that she's pregnant and we haven't slept together in almost 2 months." started her friend angry;" She must have slept with somebody else or how else would she have gotten pregnant?"

"Be quiet and listen to me before you end up making a bigger jackass out of yourself, Jack Snyder! Just shut up and listen to me!" said Molly furious as she hit him against his shoulder again;" My cousin didn't sleep with anybody else. The baby is yours because she's about 3 months pregnant!"

"She's what…?" asked he stunned;" But how is that possible? Why wouldn't she have said anything about it before?"

"Maybe because she didn't know. Don't ask me about how that is possible because I'm not a doctor, but I do know that Carly wasn't lying about that!" answered his friend;" Do you have any idea how upset my cousin was after you accused her of sleeping with somebody else? Do you have any idea how much of a jackass you have been today?"

"How the hell was I supposed to know that she's a little over 3 months pregnant already?" began Jack softly;" I thought…"

"You could have waited until Chris had done an ultra-sound to see how far along Carly was before you began to accuse her, but instead of doing that you just flew off the handle and acted like the biggest jerk on earth!" said she still angry and walked away;" You really hurt my cousin today and she was so upset that Chris had to give her a sedative to calm her down."

"Molly…." called her friend on after her as he went on after her;" I'm sorry and if I had known this then I wouldn't have said those stupid things."

"Don't tell me that and you'd better pray that she'll forgive you for that." answered Molly while she walked further away, leaving Jack behind;" I don't know if I would if I were Carly."

Out at the farm Holden still had his hands full with Sage, who was getting more and more suspicious about why she couldn't just see her mother at the hospital, when Lily walked in with Nathalie and Evan;" Hi, guys."

"Hi." said Holden relieved and hoping it would distract Sage, who was on the verge of going to the hospital to see Carly on her own;" Hey, Sage. Why don't you go and play with Nathalie and Evan."

"Come on, Sage. Let's go." smiled Nathalie and pulled her with her out the door.

"Sure." answered she softly as they went outside.

"Is everything okay?" asked Lily worried after the girls had left;" Holden?"

"No, everything isn't fine and I just spend the last hour or so trying to keep Sage from running off to see Carly by herself." started he tired;" That girl has got a mind of her own."

"Of course she does, Holden. She gets that from her mother." laughed his ex-wife;" But why would Sage try to run off to see Carly?"

"Some stuff happened at the hospital earlier and Molly had to leave to take care of it so she brought Sage here. Of course she was upset that she still couldn't see her mother at the hospital." said Holden and told Lily everything he knew;" If Sage were to go to the hospital under these circumstances then it would do more harm than good, Lily. I'm still waiting for Molly to come back or call me with some good news, but so far not a single word. Sage is getting pretty suspicious and restless."

"Why don't you let me take Sage with us to take her mind off things and I'll bring her back as soon as things are resolved." suggested she;" It might work."

"That would be great, Lily. Thanks." smiled her ex-husband relieved;" I hope Molly calls me with some good news soon."
