"Split Love" - Inuyasha/Kagome/Kikyo
We've read stories before where Inuyasha was split into his individual sides (human, hanyou, and demon) but I have an idea for something different. (in a sense)
Each of us is either on the Kikyo or Kagome train. With this story, I would like to explore what would happen if Inuyasha was simply split into his human and demon parts, with each preferring to spend their time with either of the girls. This needs to be explored because I don't understand how (with the other stories) how the hanyou part of him still exists if the demon and human parts are "taken away/out" of him.
To start off with, I don't know yet how the split of Inuyasha would come about. The main focus, as of now, would be discovering and learning how Demon Inuyasha is a person and not a mindless monster.
Both will, to an extent, have their own personalities, or a slight variation of his actual personality. It's not that I want him to be OC but I want there to be a noticeable difference between the human and demon aspects.
NOTE - There will not be a "Hanyou Inuyasha" (normal) version of Inuyasha present while he is "split" because it makes no sense for the hanyou version of him to exist if he is split into two halves of himself.
Human Inuyasha prefers to be with Kikyo because he visualizes a normal life with her, where he is accepted. His human self wonders what would have been if she had lived and he used the jewel. (she is still dead in this story) Most of his time is spent traveling with her and having a taste of the life that could have been. Feelings for Kagome still exists, but the curiosity of "what life would have been" outweighs them.
It's not that he doesn't care about the group, the task of collecting the shards or defeating Naraku. It's the appeal of the idea of what a life with Kikyo would be like and the chance to experience it. The two of them will end up traveling separately from the Inutachi to not only "live" this "life" but to also collect the jewel shards faster since there would be two groups searching instead of one.
Human Inuyasha will learn throughout his journey that life as a human isn't all it's cracked up to be after realizing mortal life wasn't as calm as he thought it would have been. Trials & tribuations would occur throughout his time with Kikyo.
Demon Inuyasha spends time with Kagome because she accepts him and doesn't believe him to be a bloodthirsty killing machine. The demon half is agitated when the initial split happens (almost like when he loses control during battle) making the team want to subdue him. But Kagome sees his eyes (which are showing signs of confusion because he can tell he is missing a piece of himself [his human half we learn later on]), convinces the team to give her a minute, and gently talks to him and calms him down. There is a connection between him and Kagome because she stood by him in defense against some comments made (Mainly by Kikyo) about when he would turn on them.
Demon Inuyasha doesn't look like what we have seen before. Since the human and demon have literally split apart, there isn't a hanyou portion of him. So his facial features favor his father - pointed ears, longer claws, cheek/wrist/leg stripes, etc. Eyes are normal gold like Toga's except when he is channeling his full powers. (like when he would transform.) Possibly a little taller?
Through various events, the demon half comes to have more respect and feelings for Kagome than he'd had previously. (He had always held her in high regard, but her standing by him and showing such trust in him brought it to a whole new level) He appreciates that Kagome treats him like a person and not as someone who could rain death upon her/them at any minute. (The group soon comes to accept him too) She comes to respect and appreciate him in return for actually taking the time to listen to her, let her go home for tests, treat his injuries, etc. Affections blossom more between them.
This brings out the mating instinct within him, but Kagome resists him, knowing that at some point, everything will go back to normal. Demon Inuyasha resists as well because he respects her more than someone who is just there to rut. Something like that could never be, but that couldn't stop them from exploring their feelings. Throughout their travels they both find themselves finding any excuse to touch, talk, walk next to, etc. At some point, these feelings expand to some heavy makeout sessions. (With the first one being after a near-death experience) But they don't get to an actual penetration point... if ya know what I mean...
Both express their love for each other and allow it to grow. Talking in length about each other to learn and grow. It gets to an extent that Kagome is asked if she would stay with him. Wondering if he truly was asking what she thought he was, Kagome, with a sad expression on her face, politely refuses, stating she worries about if their little world will last. What if he has to become his hanyou self again? "We both know that I wouldn't be the one he chose," Kagome says. But they decide to make the most of what time they've got.
Along the months of travel, both Inuyasha's have experienced evergrowing weakness to the point that Kikyo has to use her soul collectors to bring Human Inuyasha back to the group. (He is conscious, but weak in body) She states that they've got to be reunited/joined as the whole thing was a ploy by Naraku to take out a threat against him.
Taking a few last moments alone, Demon Inuyasha takes Kagome off to just inside the woods to reiterate how he feels about her and that once they were rejoined, he would fight within his mind to have his voice heard and to choose her. Kagome, while showing a brave face, had her doubts and knew that no matter what, he would choose Kikyo. (Kagome still has a lot of self-doubt about her self worth when it comes to love) Inuyasha can tell this and takes a few extra moments to hold her.
When they reenter the clearing, Human Inuyasha is standing in the middle of some type of drawing on the floor, waiting for his Demon half to enter so the rejoining can begin. (Not sure how this could be done yet) Human Inuyasha can tell that Kagome is putting on a brave face, but says nothing.
In fact, he hasn't said much of anything when they were back with the group, (because of how weak he was) but he made a few discoveries of his own while with Kikyo, mainly that his feelings for Kagome far outweighed that of Kikyo. That was why he swore to himself that, whole or split again, he would keep the promise to Kagome that his Demon half just made.
(This promise) Before the Demon half of him entered the circle, he turned back and went to Kagome. A question itching the back of his skull. "If we could stay as we are, would you become my wife? Knowing all the hardships we would be faced with?"
Looking up at him, then over to the Human half, she looks back up at him. "I love you as a half-demon" she says, because she doesn't want him to lose a piece of himself.
(note - I've played back and forth about her not saying "I love you" until this moment, that's why it may sound a little odd since I mentioned it earlier that she has said this. The other thought is that she wants them to be rejoined throughout their journey, but that the feelings still develop anyway)
"But would you be my wife? If this doesn't work, and I am the only one who lives, would you?"
"Yes"
He smirks, "Then I will fight like hell to be with you."
He would soon find out that he didn't need to fight as much as he thought.
