"Future Love" - Inuyasha/Kikyo -- Future/Modern Era Inuyasha/Kagome

Synopsis - Inuyasha has chosen Kikyo, which Kagome accepts and understands but it still upsets her. After a while, Kagome begins to come to the Feudal Era happier than she has been in weeks and the gang has begun to wonder why. They soon find out when Inuyasha decides to retrieve Kagome early only to find her in the arms of...himself?

Inspiration for this Story - I got to thinking one day about the human mind and the extent of the knowledge and memory that it could hold. The human brain can hold approximately 1TB of memory before it starts replacing older memories with newer ones. That's about 300 years worth of thoughts, memories, etc.

This led me to wonder about how much a youkai's memory could hold, which would obviously be exceptionally more than a human's. But when a hanyou is born, that memory is obviously a combination of the two.

Of course that led me to wonder the extent of Inuyasha's memory. Seeing as when we meet him, he is at least 200 years old, at what point would his memories start "copying over each other" so to speak. (?)

By a guesstimation, and just a theory in general, I'm going to say for this story that the extent of Inuyasha's memory is approximately 600 years... with the older memories being fuzzy or missing chunks in general. So for example, he only remembers bits and pieces about his Mother, and while prominate details about the group and the fight against Naraku are also starting to become fuzzy or already are. Faces, people, battles, traveling, have all begun to fade for him.

That's why in this story, when Inuyasha finds Kagome in the Modern Era (Kikyo died tragically at this point) he is not only reuniting with a dear friend, but also rediscovering her in a new light, therefore finding new love.

Story Concept -

Based in the current universe, with Kagome's era being 2021 instead of 1998, she and Inuyasha had come to the understanding that he had chosen Kikyo and that they would always remain friends. While she accepted and understood this, sadness and heartbreak still permeated part of her being. This went on for several weeks until the others begin to notice she was happier than normal when coming back from her era.

It has really bugged Inuyasha however that she has constantly come back freshly bathed with lingering wisps of his scent on her... fresh wisps... which is odd since he usually stays in the Feudal Era.

When asked about why she was so happy, Kagome only responded that her trip/visit was "really good".

Kagome has also made changes in the way she dresses and does her hair. The new addition of sturdier, less revealing clothes (jeans and tees) along with her hair nearly always being pulled back in some type of bun (or on the rare occasion in braids) was not lost upon the group.

Finallly having enough of wondering what was going on and wanting to get down to the bottom of it, Inuyasha decides to go back early to get her one day using the excuse of a good shard lead. Once in the modern era, he asks Souta, the only Higurashi at home, where she was because she needed to come back. Not knowing where she was, he did the only thing that he could think of, Facetime/Video call her. (She didn't tell him where she was going or when she would be back)

It surprises them both when a black-haired version of Inuyasha pops up on screen (answering Kagome's phone, not thinking to see who's phone it was first) and is surprised when he sees his younger self on the screen.

"Uh oh..." Is all the future Inuyasha says, "Uh. Kagome...? I think the dog's been let out of the bag..."

Details about Future Inuyasha -

He isn't a reincarnation, he is actually Inuyasha. He lived his life with Kikyo before losing her in an accident/tragically. (Perhaps Hiroshima? Disease?) Ever since he has been alone, until he came across some of Kagome's photos she posted on social media and reconnected with her.

It's not that he forgot about Kagome, but the idea is that his memory isn't as long as a normal youkai. For example, a human can only hold about 300 years worth of memories (according to research studies) before older memories are forgotten and replaced. So for Inuyasha, because of his hanyou status, his human genes take a factor into how far back he can remember. He has few memories of his mother and has forgotten most of his childhood, but remembers the most impactful bits and pieces about the gang's time together.

Basically, he has memories of them together, but it's a breath of fresh air and a joy to reconnect and start a relationship with her again in the future.

This version of Inuyasha would also provide an explanation into where all the money comes from to pay for the supplies she takes back o the Feudal Era. (something that has always bothered me) I know things don't cost a lot, but with how stuffed that bag is sometimes... ya get where I'm going?

He somehow has to prove to his younger self that he is truly who he says he is, and he does that with Tessaiga. (As he is the only one who can wield it)

Future Inuyasha also decides to join them on the hunt for Naraku, stating that "Well, two Tessaiga's are better than one right?"

Details about Kagome - Future Inuyasha makes her happy, simple as that. And that happiness has made her make a few changes to herself, such as wearing some actual clothing while in the Feudal Era. Jeans, t-shirt, durable clothing. She has started wearing her hair up and out of the way, either in braids or in a bun. (We find out later this is because Future Inuyasha likes looking at her bare shoulders and neck. He's a neck guy lol) Because of their relationship, she has found a new comfort and peace within herself because she doesn't feel like she is competing for a place in his heart.

I also feel like they would have pet names for each other. I don't know what they would be, but I see her calling him "Babe" and not caring what anyone in either era thinks about it.

Random things that will happen somewhere in the story

1 - Future Inuyasha will bring back a camera to take pictures

2 - Future Inuyasha gets excited when he sees everyone and hugs them, especially Kaede.

3 - Kagome becomes quiet and closed off when Kikyo comes around, believing that Future Inuyasha would grasp at the chance to see her. He has to convince her otherwise.

4 - Inuyasha constantly tries to find out how and when Naraku will be defeated, which Future Inuyasha refuses to reveal.

5 - Comfort is a constant between Kagome and the Future Inuyasha, they're comfortable with each other. It is easy to see their love.

6 - After a particularly harsh battle, Future Inuyasha has a PTSD issue that keeps him up the following nights. Talking to Miroku and revealing bits of his past (fighting in wars, particularly WW2), how they affected him, and what haunted him helps him find a center again.

7. Inuyasha trying to convince Kagome that Furture Inuyasha is a fraud.

8. Both Inuyasha's getting into a fight with Koga to leave Kagome alone.

9. The gang waking up after their first camp night together to find the couple snuggled up.

10. Kikyo being weirded out by how the Future Inuyasha's personality has changed. Much preferring her Inuyasha. (Future Inuyasha has found comfort and love for himself so shows a happier view on the outside.)
