Prologue:
The full moon shone coldly above the small camp, letting a bit of light filter into her den, though darkness was cast over most of the space, shading her fur and making her yellow eyes glow.
"They are having their "Gathering" tonight." She whispered to the cat who was sitting nervously across from her, a pale brown tabby. "So unaware." She smirked. "So unaware of the things that they've forgotten about."
Daisy watched her as she began to pace, shifting backwards slightly to give Ember more room. "Well, ma'am, I don't think they've forgotten. The Clans aren't ones to do so."
"Are they not, now?" Ember stopped, glancing at Daisy calmly. "Well, then how do you explain this? I've gathered cats like us, Daisy, resentful towards the Clans and what they've lost. Unseen enemies, fragments, that have gathered together. The Clans have destroyed and taken so much that it will be their downfall."
She resumed her pacing, her black-and-ginger tail lashing.
"Well, they highly outnumber us." Daisy pointed out quietly. "Even with our growing numbers."
"Oh, I know." Ember rolled her eyes. "Do you really think I'd just ATTACK them? No, Daisy, we have to think strategically."
"Oh, well, I mean, we're based right outside of their "territory", so if they find us here, well, we'd all be dead."
Ember sighed. "You really do love to think positively, don't you?"
Daisy visibly shrank a little bit, her tail twitching nervously, but straightened up cautiously after a few heartbeats and continued. "And we're closest to Thunderclan, or whatever they call themselves. I've seen them before, when I've been out. They act like they own everything around them, from every last piece of prey to a single blade of thin grass." Daisy sighed. "And they kind of do, they protect their borders fiercely, convinced that any other type of life that isn't theirs is wrong."
"They do think that indeed." Ember nodded. "I remember the leader of Thunderclan, Skystar, her name is."
She turned her gaze to Daisy. "You remember your mother, don't you?"
Daisy nodded, her green eyes hardening. "I don't go a day without thinking about her. She was just hunting, trying to keep my brother and I from going hungry, as we couldn't protect and keep ourselves alive. She must've strayed over one of their "border" markings, or something mouse-brained like that, and she ran into one of their patrols. She told them that she meant no harm, multiple times, but they slaughtered her anyways without hesitation. I watched those Clan cats murder my mother, just because she was different from them." She dug her claws into the soft ground of the den.
"And seasons have passed, and the debt has never been repaid." Ember finished softly.
Daisy let out a low growl of anger and grief. "A couple seasons after that, when you found us, my brother Birch ran into the same problem, but with a different Clan. I lost my entire family to those fox-hearts."
"And they don't understand what it feels like to lose someone that they care about." Ember continued, aiming a gaze of fake sympathy at the younger she-cat. "They kill mercilessly, but what would happen if they saw one of their very own cats die right before their very eyes, without being able to change a thing? Do you think that would even the score?"
Daisy nodded immediately, but a look of thought came over her face. "Well, or you'd just make them angry."
"That's what I want." Ember smirked. "I want them to know that they can only ignore the problem for so long, pretending that every other way of life is incorrect. They seek to "fix" the problem, but the problem is them, not us. Every cat was a rogue before, including them. They're not much more different than us, if they took a moment to think about it."
"But would it be fair to take our anger at the Clans out on the young ones?" Daisy asked nervously. "After all, they didn't do anything, their parents are the ones who are at fault."
Ember was getting a little fed-up, Daisy was much more sympathetic than she had originally thought, but after all, she couldn't change that, so she only let a disappointed sigh before continuing.
"Is it fair to kill any cat who's a mouse-length in their territory? No, it's not, but they don't care. If they will be unfair and cruel, well, so will we. And I think that I've found exactly what I've been looking for as well."
Daisy's ears perked up. "Ooh! What is it?"
"That's a secret for now." Ember told her, purring slightly. "But I do think that the Clans have something coming for them, something that they're not ready for." A small grin appeared on her face.
"Something that's been a long time coming."
Alright! HELLO, everyone! Welcome to er, the prologue for Forgotten! We had a pretty BIG HECKING list for allegiances, but like... you know me. Cats are going to die. Since I'm working on finishing up Shadows in the Air (next chapter comes out tomorrow!), I won't be updating this until that story is done. I hope that y'all enjoy this, this idea has been in my head for a bit and it's kind of exciting to have something else to write.
