"Mommy, I'm sleepy."
Taylor looked over from her computer to see her eldest rubbing her eyes. Most mothers would say that kids never want to go to bed, but no one else was the mother to five-year-old Sydney Drew Myers.
"Can I cuddle with you?" Syd continued.
The woman smiled softly at her daughter, already dressed in her pink princess pajamas, and rolled back her office chair. The curly headed blonde took the invitation and climbed into her mother's lap with her stuffed elephant her Uncle Cole and Auntie Lyssa had gotten her when she was a baby.
"Did you dress yourself or did Daddy dress you?" Taylor asked.
"I did."
"Good job, babygirl."
"Thank you, Momma."
"You're welcome."
Within a few minutes, the little girl was sound asleep and Taylor had some more time to herself.
That was until she heard the patter of more little feet.
Turning back around she saw her youngest in her red dinosaur onesie.
"Hi, Michael."
"Hi, Mommy," the girl smiled brightly. She looked so much like Eric it wasn't funny. The only difference between father and daughter was that Michaela had her mother's eyes. "Daddy says you're working too much."
Taylor let out a small chuckle. "Did Daddy send you in here to say that?"
Michael grinned mischievously and vigorously nodded, making her black curls bounce. The woman had a feeling her husband had specifically told their daughter "don't tell Mommy that Daddy told you" and Michael either didn't listen or didn't care. Both were highly plausible considering that Michael was more intelligent than the average two-year-old. Both of the Myers girls were quicker than most kids when it came to developmental skills, but Michael could still outwit her big sister at some things.
"Momma?" Michael started again.
"Yes, sweetie?"
"I wanna watch Ponies."
"My Little Pony?" Taylor watched as her daughter nodded. "Alright. Country ponies or city ponies?"
Syd had started calling the older My Little Pony movies "country ponies" when she was little because "they live on a farm in the country." Thus, the newer episodes and movies were "city ponies" because they lived in a town. The phrases had continued with Michael.
"Hmmmmm," Michael put on her thinking face as Wes called it. "City ponies!"
"Alright," Taylor shut down her computer and got up, still holding her eldest.
Michael nearly ran downstairs to the living room.
Taylor couldn't help but laugh when she heard a loud grunt, for she knew Michael had jumped onto Eric.
"You try it!" Eric complained when she came into his line of sight. "The girl's rock solid!"
"Try carrying her for nine months, then come talk to me," the blonde retorted as put in a movie before sitting down next to him, and he wrapped an arm around her shoulders.
"She asleep?" he gestured to Syd.
"Knocked out. She had a long day."
"So did you."
"That's why I was trying to get some work done."
Syd had had a field trip to the pumpkin patch that day, and Taylor had accompanied her along with Michael while Eric went to work. That's why she was trying to catch up on what she'd missed.
"But you need some rest, too, Blondie," the man looked at his wife.
"I'm getting some right now," she retorted.
"Shhhh!!!!" Michael put her little finger to her lips.
"I'm sorry, babygirl," Taylor apologized to the toddler who went back to watching the movie.
It wasn't long before Michael, too, had fallen asleep.
Taylor sleepily looked up at her husband from where her head rested on his shoulder. "I think I've had enough Mommy Time. They need some Daddy Time tomorrow."
Eric chuckled and kissed her forehead. "Just go to sleep, babe. We'll still be here when you wake up."
With a small smile, Taylor soon followed in her daughters' footsteps and sleep overtook her.
It was a great end to a great Mommy Day.
