War of the worlds

Chapter 4

The other team just looked each other in disbelief. Tony? That story was far-fetched.

'Who are you?' Clint asked.

'We mean no harm. If only we could sit down….and talk….,' the Martian responded - his response sounding more like a question. At that moment, he begged in his heart for the whole event to go peacefully.

'How are we supposed to know that you're not one of them?' Clint asked sternly; giving no hints of cordiality.

'I think they're not, they helped kill the other guys - I don't think they're one of them,' Sam said quietly to Clint, 'there would be no condonation for such betrayal.'

After a short silence, Clint finally agreed to have them talk - well, after some critical thinking of course. With the series of attacks they had been experiencing, trust was not something to be given out carelessly. But those people – those people had a lot of questions attached to them. It was their task to find out who they were and what they wanted.

It was a risk worth taking.

If they were the enemy; they'd fight.

It was their job.

'This way,' Clint directed.

The group proceeded to the building. With Team avengers in front and team Martian following behind. They had kept a little distance between each other, well because – of lack of familiarities.

Diana commented on how those people seemed to be nice - to her colleagues. She usually considered anyone who fought for "the greater good" as one having the sense of humanity in them. It was really something that touched her soul.

Well…they partially agreed because they did not know anything about them! It was a good enough reason. While Bruce on the other hand, was only passionate about getting everything over with. Typical Bruce –only cared about getting the job done.

'You're about to make a deal with the devil,' one of the avenger team mates commented. To his fellow mates of course, making sure the other team did not hear.

'And we've always managed to send the devil back to hell, Bucky,' Sam replied looking at him.

'At the expense of our friends' lives,' Bucky clapped back. With his face showing nothing but unpleasantness.

'Quiet down you two,' Clint kicked in before the argument could blaze up. A civil war was the last thing he wanted.

After a few minute walk, they finally arrived. They entered the building and headed straight for the lounge.

'Not bad,' Bruce muttered to himself.

The place was undoubtedly magnificent!

They arrived at the lounge and everyone took their seats. But nobody seemed to want to talk first. Yes - an awkward silence.

'Ahem' the Martian cleared his throat trying to clear the air. Well they were the "intruders" so it was only right for them to be the first ones to talk. 'My name is J'onn J'onzz. And this is my team,' he started.

They introduced themselves and passed their greetings.

'We have heard of you - the avengers,' The Martian added.

'Uh yes. Well….name's Clint Barton, also Hawkeye,' Clint introduced, 'we have Sam Wilson, or the falcon, uh…Bucky Barnes…the winter soldier…peter parker, spider boy…'

'c'mon! Its man…Spiderman,' peter argued.

'Yes whatever,' Clint responded, 'and we have Scott Lang…ant man.'

'We are pleased to meet you. Well…we need help…allies,' the Martian started. Everyone just listened attentively. 'Our world is being threatened by an evil so great. so we need help.'

'What is your world? What planet are you from?' Sam asked.

'Actually….. We are from another dimension…of the universe; another earth.' The Martian responded. He appeared to be the team's spokesman. Well…it made sense because he was the one with the information.

Clint and Sam just looked at each other and then back at them. They were clearly not buying it. They had been in a lot of alien situations and there wasn't a day they heard about another dimension of earth or the universe - or whatever! It was not right to trust them. Bucky was right. They were liars!

'Okay alright. Let's be real here,' Bucky started - accompanied by a little chuckle, 'Just tell us who you all are. No jokes here,' He folded his arms. Clearly demanding for an answer; that made sense.

'Well….with everything we've seen…I believe anything would exist….' Scott started. 'c'mon don't tell me you buy this crap,' Bucky interrupted.

'Language…,' Clint commented.

After that remark, team Martian was clearly not impressed, telling by the looks on their faces. If looks could kill, the whole place would have been up in flames. But they were the ones in need – but again, how low were they going to lower themselves for that sake?

'But I think we should listen to em,' Scott responded.

'It's not only our dimension that's in trouble, but all dimensions,' the Martian announced.

'Wait, that's plural. There's more?' Barry exclaimed.

'That's more reason to listen to em,' Scott added.

'What if they're lying?' Clint argued.

'What if they're not?' Scott defended.

Clint just stared at him for a moment. He did not want to accept defeat but he was right. What if they were being truthful? It was a risk they needed to take.

The atmosphere had calm down.

'So there is an enemy….' Clint uttered. 'Yes and with your help we would defeat them,' the Martian replied.

Bucky just scoffed quietly. He wasn't still game.

'Isn't tony the real person we're here to meet? Let's get to that already,' victor said. He was exhausted from all the fuss.

'Can we please meet tony now?' Clark requested.

'Well that won't be possible…' Clint responded.

That led team Martian to confusion.

'Why?' Diana asked.

'Tony…..' Clint hesitated.

'Mr. stark is gone…he died,' peter spoke up. With hints of sorrow in his voice.

This came as a shock to team Martian. What were they going to do? He was their only hope. They were doomed.

'What are we gonna do now? Diana asked – desperation in her voice.

'We came here for nothing,' Arthur scoffed.

'Don't panic, I have it all planned out,' the Martian assured.

'What do you mean? Our main and only lead is not here,' Bruce lamented, 'only if….you lied. That's why you look unconcerned. You knew he wouldn't be here.'

The Martian slightly lowered his head in shame and regret. 'I needed us to come here,' he defended.

What's that supposed to mean?' Barry asked.

'you knew….you knew that he was not gonna be here yet you risked our lives still!" Arthur exclaimed angrily. He would have been with his love at that point. He knew from the very start that that little trip was fishy. Traveling extra-dimensionally just for a tech guy? Utter nonsense!

'We need their help - and I have everything planned out' the Martian tried to defend himself again. 'You just have to trust me,'

'You lied about something this big and you expect us to trust you? I wonder what other things you are hiding' Bruce scoffed.

'I risked my life too - for our world's cause! Only if you listen to what I have to say….'

But the team would not listen to him. Everyone had things to say.

'We can bring tony back!' the Martian said out loudly.

Silence.

That did not only capture his teammates' attention but the other team's as well.

'Look, I have it all planned out. We need your help, more so. Tony's help,' the Martian said to team avengers.

'How do you expect to bring him back?' Clint asked.

'Diana, I know you know about something; the dream stone,' the Martian faced her.

Diana felt her blood run cold. 'No,' she cried, 'we cannot resort to that….. that stone is evil.'

'But that's our only chance,' the Martian insisted.

'You do not know the havoc that thing can cause!'

'Diana listen to me, it's the only way, and you're the only one who knows more about it…'

'no.' she still disagreed, 'it's not safe,' she said quietly. The mention of that thing's name brought back painful memories. Ones which she tried forgetting. They rushed back at an unbearable speed. Her throat ran dry. It tightened up. Unable to handle it, she stormed off. Clark, who was fairly close to her, followed her.

'Can you actually bring Mr. stark back?' peter asked interestingly.

The Martian just sighed.

'Look, if that's a possibility then why don't we take this chance? We…we can have him back' peter added as he faced his mates. But no one responded.

The Martian looked at his colleagues, he hoped to see one who was not bothered by what had happened but to no avail. All he saw was frowns. They all just started walking out.

'Where are you going?' he asked.

'Home. We can do it ourselves,' Bruce responded.

Poor Martian. Anyhoo…stay tuned for the next chapter. *smiles*
